Xda premium update. Thoughts

What's your thoughts on this new update. It's having a hard time loading my subscribe forums.

It's been working petty smooth for me. The update did say to clear your app data before updating. That might help.
And the ui is different, but it does look and feel more modern and it feels more smooth.

The new XDA app seems to use the same UI as Tapatalk 4. It's about time they got rid of that awful Gingerbread-inspired UI that the app used for faaaaaaar too long.

Even the free version of the XDA App upgraded the UI??

Does anyone else's app crash when they try and open the app through the notification bar?

You guys do know that the the xda app has always been the tapatalk app but just limited to one forum, right?
And @Joe0113, I called it over in the s3 forums you had asked something related and I said that as soon as the Tapatalk 4 app is worked out, the xda app would probably get updated since it's the exact same app

I would say that it's limited to one site rather than one forum, but yes, I'm aware
EDIT: the new version doesn't seem to play nicely with HTML. Bummer.

No, I would say it's limited to one forum site actually
And what do you mean doesn't play nice with html? As in links don't go to the app? I think that was stripped away because not even the old xda had that when Tapatalk 2 did

I see that you were able to underline a word in your post, whereas it wouldn't let me italicize a word in my previous post. Now it seems to be working. Weird.

Well I only use XDA on Tapatalk (don't really know of any other forum except Android Central, but I just use them for their main page to get news)... anyone actually like the XDA app over Tapatalk lol?

Well, since they're basically the same app, and you only use XDA on Tapatalk, why would you prefer Tapatalk over XDA? I actually prefer the new XDA app since I only use XDA and I wasnt able to find a 'thanks' option in Tapatalk. Otherwise they're functionally identical.

To thank on Tapatalk, just click the post you want to Thank and there is an option right there.

I just thought of Tapatalk as the Mercedes Benz of forum browsers lol.
I had some problems too with loading the subscribed forums after I updated. I just uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and all is good again. I tried both the tapatalk and this xda app, and honestly I love the xda app way better. IMHO. The investment in the xda pro app is deffinetly worth it.

I had an idea...

After reading this http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ncryption-signing-and-locking-let-me-explain/ article, I got to thinking. Could we brute force the private Samsung key and sign our own ROMs? And would such a procedure allow true custom ROMs to be installed?
Just a thought, if it is possible I'd love to fiddle around with it.

I'm getting my upgrade tomorrow, moving from a Galaxy S 3 to the G5, it's a huge step and I admit I'll miss my root access, but I think the phone is awesome enough that it warrants having to wait on a root to be made for it.

I'm using adguard which blocks ads within all apps and that was pretty much my main reason to root. Yeah it cost 10 bucks for the app after a 30 day trial but what's 10 bucks? And this device is so lighting quick I don't feel the need to overclock like I used to and battery life is a non issue having 3 batteries. I don't know. With all that in this device's favor I just don't fee the need for root.

Im glad you dont feel the need for root...but for paying $600 it should be our option...

I couldn't agree more. It's our device and we should be able to do what we want with it. I think the time should come soon though.

Looks like we shall be getting a new update soon. LG has posted the source code for ZV4. In the past Sprint has started pushing out updates on Mondays or Fridays.

Anyone been able to pull the update yet? On my note 4 I could when it was released but I guess it's different on this. Or maybe it's sprint? Who knows.

Just a thought, but what if we build the update from source as "userdebug," adb sideload it, an then use "adb disable-dm-veity"?

Looks like LG has confirmed it.
I read in one of AT&T update threads and a couple users had to actually have their Sim cards replaced then the update worked. Hopefully this isn't the case with ours.

They do it in stages, so we all wont get it at the same time. can take 2 to 3 weeks for everyone to get it. :/ kinda annoying.

Hmm... Not sure why. What he was saying just in the regular lg g5 thread in the news section was take out the battery tray and loosen the right screw to help with the back light bleed. It helped a little for me but mine was very minor anyway. Hope that helps.
