To those that plan on or have already updated to Marshmallow on the S5. You HAVE or WILL lose modding compatibility due to a/n security update Samsung implemented into the new Marshmallow Bootloader. This is unfortunate for all of the modding community of MULTIPLE Samsung devices. Hopefully, we can overcome this breach in personal security and allow modding once again on our devices. This update was RELEASED on: April 18th, 2016. It is known as the CPCA update for the "Samsung Galaxy S5". Modders beware of this update, and once again, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR DEVICES!

I can confirm this on my Sprint Galaxy S5. Since flashing official 6.0.1 via odin, I have not been able to boot a custom rom. :crying:

Yes multiple of users have tried downgrading to 5.0, but it refuses to do so. Looks like we are stuck with Marshmallow until there is some sort of exploit in the system. Will OK4 Work to downgrade the device. Does this also flash Bootloader?

WTH dude... you only open unwanted threads.. This one and anothers threads with rom's that not even work.
There ins't any problem with MM bootloader (I use a custom ROM with MM bootloader) and almost every custom roms don't work because they are based on LL blobs.
I will report you because I see too much threads open by you that don't have any contribution for the forum and members.

Dude, you were spot on! I flashed over OK4 bootloader and modem in Odin, then booted to recovery and flashed Bliss 6.0.1 rom and it worked!!!

After updating my Sprint Galaxy S5 to MM 6.0.1, my phone shuts down and reboots every time I uninstall an app. In addition, I no longer have access to the APN folder that allows me to use my MSL to modify and access the Hotspot function.
Anyone having these problems and is there a fix?

You can downgrade back to ok4 if your on a mm build like pca. I've done it multiple times with 100 percent success. The bootloader isn't locked when going back to ok4 from pca at this time but when or if this phone gets another update for mm this might change but for right now this isn't an issue. There isn't that much rom based on 6.0.1 mm for this phone that is TouchWiz at the moment for sprint besides insanity rom.

I should have looked at who the OP was before even opening this thread. I've been running marshmallow with absolutely no issues since it was leaked. I've flashed back to stock roms, flashed custom roms, flashed back to marshmallow, rooted, and debloated. So I don't see why the hell you posted this thread. Maybe YOU can't customize YOUR marshmallow rom because, as your track record shows with all, ALL, of YOUR roms, none of them work. So, maybe the problem isn't the marshmallow update, the problem is you.

Thanks zune70. I appreciate the information.

Before I did the update I had the phone rooted. I didnt loose root. now I have a question that if anyone can help please. Is the verizon xperia Z2 tablet unable to have custom roms and flashed? I followed the link to unlock the bootloader and it says its not available. Is there a method to unlock without the option for Sony website?
As far as I know, no bootloader unlock. Also don't think anyone is working on it. Not sure though.

You don't need to have unlocked bootloader to install custom rom. Only when installing custom kernel.

can someone direct me where to look because everything i find shows that your need an unlocked bootloader to use custom roms, and custom recovery. Also doesnt that void the use of custom roms? you would use a custom kernel on that.

You can find custom recovery here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175
I'm afraid that so far no luck with custom roms because only ones for this device are cm or aspects based wich include custom kernel. We need developers for custom roms with stock kernel.

[Q] First time Rooting on a Samsung device Advice plz

I personally use HTC one and am rooted with a custom rom. I had purchased a verizon Galaxy Note 3 for my sister as a Christmas gift and she loves the thing but i guess after loading up junk to it and the bloat already on the phone its gotten slow and Samsung patched out the ability to tether. So she has commissioned me to root her phone for her and find a Debloated rom that's as close to stock as possible. Correct me if i'm wrong but based on my reading Samsung devices have a extra hurdle to jump called KNOX and it will cause you to void your warranty and its unrecoverable from that voided state ? Is what i'm asking possible to do without doing this to the phone if this even happens ? I know the new TowelRoot method is the in thing to rooting Samsung devices but that's all i know about it. Her Note3 is on the second OTA update does this matter ? should i update to the latest OTA ? then root ? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated especially cause you'd help me to get my sister to stop harassing me to do this for her lol

Check to see if the phone is on NC4, most likely you are at this point. If so read this thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Scroll down to post 2 and follow instructions that read coming from NC4 OTA.
If you've never used Odin see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576104
Once up and running most roms are good. Alliance is great but the settings are very involved and may a bit much for her. I have the last Baja rom before they became Alliance if you're interested. The s5 port is a work of art as well but more than she's looking for probably. I can't really say for what rom you should pick as that's user choice. Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking and sharing that pic. You're on MJE. Look for the kingo root app online. There's no link on xda. The app is pretty straight forward from what I remember. If she just wants bloatware gone she can download Titanium Backup once rooted and get rid of some bloat.

Note 4 (SM-N910P) Q15 firmware boot loops on welcome screen.

Hi guys,
I was able to flash Q15 rom N910PVPU5DQI5 via odin. Successful boot at first and I perform factory reset in Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset. After that it boot loops starting at welcome screen.

Fixes I tried:
- wipe cache/ factory reset from stock recovery and flash Q15 rom same issue. Can't flash any other roms maybe because of bootloader image 5.
- flash TWRP, wipe data, cache from there and flash Q15, wipe data, cache again from stock recovery same issue.
- soft reset, safe mode, charge for 10-15 mins then boot same issue.
Thinking of switching to custom roms but I need a non-rooted phone. What else can I do? Please help.
Thanks,
Been able to flash lineage os 14 via TWRP. Everything seems fine except with network signal. No signal at all. Should I flash baseband for my region?

Yes it is possible and has been for some time now. There is a rooted ROM based on stock.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no.../rom-15nov2017-stock-ish-plustidbits-t3705395
There are also several ROMs that will work with the firmware QI5 even though the OP says otherwise if you just look here:

Thank you very much. that rom works but i cant send messages. as i see you have the same phone i would ask you, is there a way to root with magisk?
and another question, will this rom work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-updated-1-14-2017-t3538051 ??? looks very good !!.
1. Can't send messages?
The stock tidbits works out of box.. never had any issue with sending messages. Actually nvr had that issue with any of the ROMs listed except while they were in early stages but most of them are way past that.
Stock with tidbits works.. The UN7 Rom works also... Even the AOSP ROMs work. If you are having an issue with a ROM ask your question and let it be known in that Rom's thread.
The UN7 ROM I've seen a few have that issue but the fix is in the thread.. in fact there are fixes in the OP. UN7 has the ROM file & another one you flash after that which flashes updates. You gonna have to take the time to search the thread and read.
Magisk?... The ROM itself will flash that for you... (The 2nd file asks you this question during install)
Aside from this if you try other ROMs for the general Snapdragon Note 4 (yes there is a thread for that too) you could use a data fix by tx_dbs_tx
Long story short... look in the thread for your answers. Magisk has worked for awhile now. Now version 18 or 18.1 both work on Lineage OS which is what I am using now. Didn't even have to use any data fix file either.

What\How to flash custom recovery for custom rom on s8 950f

Hello everyone
I have been enjoying my phone for a while along with my old S6 which had a ton of mods.
Ever since I sold my old phone, I can't help but miss features like viper4android and other magisk goodies that I used to have.
After the pie update which broke the bluetooth function I downgraded my phone back to oreo using odin and original fw.
I have been looking for a complete way to install a custom recovery (twrp) and use the phone with custom roms, but i have not found any complete guide yet.
Can someone point me to a existing guide or just tell me what files I have to use.

Hey. Its not that hard and you already know the process. Go and try renovation ice . I am using it from a month and nothings better then it . The speed, the battery timing and tweaks are all amazing. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ovate-ice-g950-g955-android-7-0-aqdg-t3598040
For installing a custom rom you need a custom recovery so flash twrp using odin .https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-how-to-install-twrp-root-galaxy-t3752480
And While flashing renovation ice dont remove your system apps and dont do tweaks while flashing renovation ice there will be options for tweaks and removing apps but dont use them because when i did that my phone just bootloop and the next time i tried to flash it without using any advance options and then it was successful. On the first boot it may be slow or dont boot dont do anything let id do that wait and then it be all fine . I hope may this helps you and the rom is already rooted with magisk if not then tell me . I give you the link to flash super su .
Stay blessed?

Galaxy S8 Fails to Flash Firmware In Odin 3.13

I'm trying to downgrade the software in the S8 to android 7 so that I can root it (root methods that I tried for android 9 haven't worked) and when in Odin, the original software fails to flash, I've tried a couple different AP files for my model and they all fail. Any suggestions?

It fails because you cannot downgrade bootloader, hence the Odin fail at boot.img. you must flash the current or newer BL unfortunately. Have you tried to flash twrp + magisk for root?

The effort put forth by Extreme Syndicate is great except some of the disclaimers aren't promising.
This method will work if you are on Android 9 Pie but will put you on Android 7 nougat. There is no root for Android 9 Pie
You will not be able to use normal magisk
You will not be able to flash custom rom like Lineage or any other AOSP roms
You cannot flash custom boot images or recovery images such as TWRP
The whole reason to root, in my case - any way, is to put a custom recovery on such as TWRP and then flash a custom ROM to get rid of the **** Samsung provides.
In my case, I just downgrade to 7 nougat rom, then couldn't do much, so I got to think. I just wanted to revived this sucker!
Plug it back to odin and reinstall the lastest firmware from sammobile.
I'm not an expert on any of this, but like a said just bringing back this sucker, im in peace.
I can't stand Samsung's software so I'm "glad" in the sense that I bought the phone for experimenting and not to use on a daily basis because if I had to use One UI daily I'd descend into madness over how much I can't stand it.
Having said that, attempting to root it, put a custom recovery and rom on it are very frustrating tasks when Samsung's Knox and other code gets in the way to the point of everything in Odin failing.
"Food for thought" - How can your device be "your" device when it clearly and evidently locks you out of doing whatever you want on it?
I'm not sure if there is a community for anti-bloatware but if there is I'm just as much a part of it as I am with right to repair.
Hi
I have a s8 sn-g50f on pie.
I want downgrade to stock rom 8.0
I try with latest odin 3.141 but is fail after 1 sec.
Wich excat fw i must dowload?
Reason for down is my mcdonalds app tell me that phone is rooted. But my phone not rooted,i was flashed with latest pie from sammobile.
???
On Samsung devices you can't downgrade firmware versions.
Ok.how i can remove root?i flashed clean stock fw but still is rooted.
