[FIX] New Vega Flash Updater Not Working For You?

Hi all
The new vega flash updater only works if the model in the buid.prop has not been edited. So i you have installed my rom-add on, or other roms the chances are it will not work. To solve i have made a update.zip for those who do not have root. Or edit the build.prop and make sure the "model" just has "vega" in the title.
See post below to edit build.prop manually.
Surprisingly, the app called "SGS Tools" will allow you to modify the build.prop file in your Vega.
Thanks, i did not know you could edit it on the vega.
It has to be something with "Advent Vega" for me. I could be so easy thx ganja for the awesome research!!

Hi there,
I would recommend flashing the stock v1.09 firmware, that has flash as default. It is available from the advent website. Pauls r8 is based from the v1.08 firmware that does not included flash (paul added it). There are some newer ways of getting the market and Gapps on v1.09
As for my update.zip its easy. Just transfer the update.zip to you sdcard on the vega. Then navigate to settings/software tool/software update from there just navigate to the update.zip and click it. The device will reboot, and you will get a "out of a box android" a progress bar will appear for around 5 secs and install the parts.

Thanks ,
How do i Just transfer the update.zip to you sdcard on the vega ?
Do i download your update.zip file to my pc and save in a new folder and then connect vega to my pc via usb cable then follow on with your instructions ie,
Then navigate to settings/software tool/software update from there just navigate to the update.zip and click it. The device will reboot, and you will get a "out of a box android" a progress bar will appear for around 5 secs and install the parts.
Regarding flashing the stock v1.09 firmware from the advent website would that
remove all of pauls r8 Rom that ive already downloaded onto my vega ?
Thanks,

For your first question, yes you can download it to your pc and then transfer it. The vega has some problems downloading some file types. You can use a app like download all files from the market. Then you can download it directly to the vega, and then run the software tool. Both ways work fine.
Flashing the v1.09 firmware will essentially return your device to factory settings. No trace from r8 or installed apps will remain. Once you get v1.09 up and running you can use the application backup in software tool to save your apps. Do not try this with your current set up and restoring to v1.09, you might well be left with a mess.
Hope that sorts it for you
Im sorry you say
You can use a app like download all files from the market
what do you mean ?
You said

there would nt be any apps left if i'd flashed the stock v1.09 firmware from the advent website would there ?
I am very new to this whole process ........... there should be a step by step guide somewhere .

Firstly, just stick with the first plan and just download it to your pc then transfer it by usb. Thats nice and easy.
secondly, i meant use then applications backup after you have installed all your apps to v1.09. Then if you have any future problems you can reflash v1.09 and use your backup to put your apps back.
There is a guide in my rom add-on thread located in the vega android development.
downloading....thanks
I'll try and find your guide in the rom add-on thread located in the vega android development

Come on.... Just plug your vega into your pc with the supplied usb cable. Allow the usb connection on the vega. A new drive will show up on your pc. Copy the update zip over. This will work if you have installed the usb drivers from the advent website. Again this is covered in my rom add-on thread.
Sorry come on ......... yeh sure ....... you once didnt know either.

Does the vega have to be in recovery mode to do this ?
Allow the usb connection on the vega ........... where do we do this ?
maybe you should make a video

I am always very patient with new users, as you say we were all new at some point. I try to help and give simple easy to follow instructions. Just the info you asked about is in the instructions you get with the vega. I try to help but some times you have to help yourself.
And dont forget the search button is your friend.
I asked for specific instructions and you didnt provide them and so i remained confused ,you didnt say much at all in a concise fully explainable way , ie, do this do this and do this etc ......... i asked on here because i believed i would be given simple detailed specific guidance .

And you have got it. I like how people ask for detailed guides which they're not wanting to follow. Kinda makes you unwilling to try your luck at doing them.

Recovery

Hi Guys,
OK, so the note at the bottom obviously didn't explain well enough that this is Stockwells Recovery, he made this, not me.
Sorry for any confusion caused
Just putting this here rather than sifting through the 38 page thread
Installing recovery.img
You can download the image http://www.apksmash.com/x5/recovery.img
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY HAPPEN TO YOUR DEVICE
First thing to do is turn off the phone then hold power and BOTH volume buttons
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/vbp.jpg
That will bring up this purple screen
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/purple1.jpg
Next plug in your USB and you will be able to access it as a mass storage device
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/massstorage.JPG
The next step is simply rename your recovery.img (for later access if needed) then put in the new one (found at http://www.apksmash.com/x5/recovery.img).
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/image.JPG
Next turn off the phone (I’ve found that battery pulling is the only way out of recovery mode).
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/battpull.jpg
Then put the battery back in and while the phone is still OFF, plug in the USB. This will show the Huawei screen and boot in to recovery
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/recov.jpg
Easy enough to do Good luck and have fun!
I also have this in .doc form at http://www.apksmash.com/x5/howto/Recovery guide.doc
All of this would not be possible with Stockwell!
He's been a brilliant help since Day 1 of the X5
very useful
thanks
Stockwell may prefer to create a topic for which he can post a "sticky" at the start of the topic that he can update with the latest image as it becomes available.
I'll try to suggest this in a PM to Stockwell.

[Q] Multitouch and the NTG

I attempted to use the multitouch kernel with clockwork mod after rooting my glowlight and for some reason it seems to have hosed the glowlight controls completely. I was hoping that the n2t recovery by ros87 would help but the server hosting the image is not working. Does anyone have a mirror of the image?
EDIT: In my panic I didn't check the entire thread and found a dropbox mirror of the file further on in the thread. Let this serve as a warning to first stay calm and also not to attempt multitouch on the NTG. Sorry if I wasted your time.

Here you go.
Just wait for a NTG modded kernel, dont use the device specific resources for the NST.
Thanks for the quick response and the advice which I will be sure to remember. Any idea how long it's going to take to port multitouch to the NTG

It'll take about the amount of time for whoever brought multitouch to the Nook Simple Touch to download the source for NTG and then make the appropriate changes. That's if they even care.
Hi,
the kernel in the attachment should work for the NTG. I patched it a month ago and totally forgot to upload it .
Works also on the normal NST.
The zip file includes only the kernel, its not flashable by cwm, you have to push it manually to your boot partition and add the permissions in the xml-file.
Git-Repository: https://github.com/mali1/NST-kernel_115
Thank you. Is it possible to replace the uimage in the original CWM zip with this one and do the same thing as for the nst or should I follow the directions in the original thread which if I understand right involves burning noogie to an sdcard then then booting the nook up, connecting it to a computer, finding uimage and replacing it.

Yes, that should work.
Hello everybody!
I haму some questions about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24180134
Can I use this method if I had already NST [email protected] with root? I want get multitouch, NoRefresh and usb-host.
All what I should to do is just replace uImage through Noogie?
This particular thread is regarding Multitouch on the Nook Touch Glow, not the Nook Simple Touch.

Using Root Explorer, where do I have to copy the (extracted kernel) file to (exact path/folder)?
Add permissions: Can I do that in Root Explorer rather than opening the xml file (filename?)? I do not have an editor for xml files....(which one would you recommend if I cannot change the permissions directly using Root Explorer)?
Thanks!

Glowlight not working
Hello,
I have a problem with my Nook Simple Touch Glowlight that I hoped you could help me with.
I rooted it and it was working fine. Then, I tried to add the multitouch mod, but I think it was for the NST, and now the glowlight doesn't work at all. I did not have a backup, unfortunately. I tried doing a factory reset and rerooting, but when it gets to the "try the glowlight" part of the setup. I can't go any further because the light doesn't work. How do I fix this problem?
Thanks,
Joe
Glow + multitouch + Norefresh?
After rooting my Glow I downloaded and installed the .zip I found in another thread to enable multi touch and an APK that was to enable NoRefresh. The norefresh didnt work at all and the multi touch worked but killed the glowlight. Now I understand what happened, but basically i ended up with the kernal for the NST that enabled Multitouch.
After downloading and ADB pushing the the kernal that has both Glow and MultiTouch I am satisfied but not completely happy. I would really want the addition of norefresh but I have not been able to find a kernal that has all three.
USB host would not be a bad thing to have also, as long as it doesn't hose the battery life. It isn't a required component for my needs.
I've been looking around to see who has been working on this.
As mentioned elsewhere, EpdController has been changed in 1.2 which will break anything designed to play with Epd modes.
I've no experience or real interest in "NoRefresh" since for what I want
it's better to integrate Epd control at the application level, which I do.
Oh, I should have mentioned. I am at 1.1.5. I used Glownooter because I wanted the Market access, utilizing the Search Market tool. As far as I could tell, the rooting methods that work on 1.2 don't include Market capability.
If I could update to 1.2 and keep market that would be cool. It might be that any dev work has been scrapped for 1.1.5 as that is an old version.
here is multitouch for nook glowlight, it is in zip format for installing with CWM, I made it changing the uimage file for the rigth one in the NST CWM zip file from the first post
I have tried it in my nook glow with firmware 1.2, spanish language, and previously rooted with glownooter, I had installed too the norefresh toggle previously, it works like a charm with opera browser, and of course light is working
I installed it after previously have done with the no glow version and having lost my light, so it works also as an amendment to this failure

Official Ubuntu Touch for Galaxy Tab 10.1 is here!

I've been following the progress on official Ubuntu Touch port to Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a while and today they have updated the wiki for a dedicated session and early build install instructions.
This is an early build, some things work, some things are unknown and wifi is work in progress.
Installation
1. Download the ubuntu preinstalled and the p4wifi specific cyanogenmod image from the unlock instruction section below.
2. Put both zip files onto your sdcard
3. Enter recovery mode and do a wipe data/factory reset
4. Flash in this order:
First the cyanogenmod image (e.g. cm-10.1-20130325-UNOFFICIAL-p4wifi.zip)
Then the ubuntu image (this may take a while)
5. reboot
fix screen pixel ratio (this will become obsolete once the config file is included by default):
1. download p4wifi.conf: http://ubuntuone.com/688wubidavYnvfKvBWV7cY
2. copy p4wifi.conf into /etc/ubuntu-session.d/
3. reboot

Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
They say it's a test-only version and you can only log in to guest account...
and if you read the ubuntu-part file's name it is "quantal-PREINSTALLED", which means it is an installed image of Ubuntu that was tested on some previous devices by Ubuntu devs...
it's my thought, though...

Not sure why you're having this problem. Maybe try format everything before flashing back or use a nand backup if you have one?
I think we must put the p4wifi.conf into ubuntu-session.d folder in the quantal before we install the image, right?
The proof I can provide is that there are folders named ubuntu-session.d and data in the quantal, but they're extracted to somewhere else during installation...
Video coming soon...

My memory is a bit vague on this, but I think it's in the /ubuntu folder, as well as the rest of the filesystem. It confused the hell out of me when I had it on my Sensation, it seemed like there was an entire filesystem at the root of the storage, then another inside /ubuntu where everything seemed to be.
You could use the search in Nautilus to find it as well, just make sure it's searching all subdirectories
I had a problem adding the p4wifi.conf file to /etc/ubuntu-session.d/ folder. This is how I solved it.
My problem basically was that when using adb shell to access the device I was inside the android system. And you need to get inside the ubuntu-system.
My way to get shell access to the ubuntu-system was the following:
>adb root
>adb shell
You should now see something similar to [email protected]:/ #
Then enter:
>ubuntu_chroot shell
You should now see something similar to [email protected]:/#
You are now in the ubuntu-system.
to get the p4wifi.conf file into /etc/ubuntu-session.d I did the following:
>cd /etc/ubuntu-session.d
>echo -e "GRID_UNIT_PX=10\nQTWEBKIT_DPR=2.0\nFORM_FACTOR=\"tablet\"" | sudo tee p4wifi.conf
For some reason there is a space between " and tablet. This space should be removed! It seems as if the forum adds it when rendering my post.
Now for the changes to take effect you will need to reboot your device. You can do that by writing the following
>reboot
I hope this helped someone that just as me struggled to get the pixel-ratio fix applied to the system.
Thanks, my friend.
I'm gonna try this and then will upload a video...

Yeah I read about this post too, I'm a bit busy this week but maybe I'll try it out this weekend.
I finally fixed screen pixel ratio by flashing the .zip package linked in post 15 in this thread ... simply adb push it and flash using CWM (ubuntu won't erase CWM after being flashed)...

yeah, I too have tried putting userinit.sh file in /data/loca/ with no success... but note that you must put the file using ubuntu_chroot shell... did you try that?
maybe we can put the commands in afterflash-p4.zip and then flash it, like the way we solved the screen pixel ratio issue...
