When will be able to update from B5? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Again, VZW has us on the oldest build compared to the other big 4. Do prerelease builds ever surface? Do vzw users ever take part in betas for Samsung devices? No root is killing my experience with this phone...
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

So why did you get the phone then? You had no reasonable expectation to get root...

You're with AT&T, can't root or modify anything. Why bother on xda?

Because XDA isn't only about hacking your phone?
I've been using XDA for years, and while I hack some of phones, I don't root all of them (in fact my Z5 was rooted, it's not now) and I'll be buying the AT&T version since I'm not sure I want to mess with system and mess up Samsung pay.

Viper4android sucks IMO.
I only use TB when I forget to backup info before wiping/flashing, so not super important.
I don't use ad blockers, if a site/app uses ads with disregard to usability I stop using them, otherwise I pay if I can or live with ads, developers and content providers need to eat to.

I may be boring but at least I've helped the community in my S6 days, also in my days with the relay. Also I understand what I'm doing without guides, able to fix things when I mess up, and don't need to go around telling others their use case for their phones is stupid and beneath mine.
Good luck in life kid, I'm sure you'll figure things out someday

...nevermind
How is preaching going from your parents house? If a guy wants to know about something, why immediately judge and attack him. Are you insecure? Are you young and dumb? Old and dumb? Just dumb? Just from Canada? I'm sorry but from what I know xda is a site with a reputation for not having to feel excluded for asking a question. A site where you can get answers without the fear of assholes like yourself. Not everyone is technical and they, the majority, are the reason why we all have great product engineering. That majority keeps you able to hack, augment and change the latest tech all while many millions more don't. Do not judge people on here as you are just showing the world how small you are in mind.
Sorry. I was only joking around.

It's ok. Humility is a sign of maturity. This place is for all of us. BTW OP, I used to be att. They do that to delay shipping. I assure you sim cards aren't on back order. It's because they can use that to gold the shipment in their oms.

Is anyone else returning this phone?

In light of the high possiblity that the S7 Edge will not get root I have been considering returning the phone and wating for the LG G5. So my question Is am I the only one considering returning it over the possiblity of no root?
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
No, keeping mine.
I will be keeping mine. I have Exynos but not being able to root would not lead to me retuning the phone as it's not such a big deal to me.
However I understand your reasoning and believe a lot of people will also be returning due to this.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I'm enjoying it, I don't really need to root since Package Disabler is all I need anyways. Besides if I wanted root, I'd just wait for the next Nexus device.
It's disturbing that we might not get to root... but all is not lost. We don't know what Sprint will do yet.
I've returned mine because it was faulty, and thanks to Samsungs ****ty return policy I had to buy another s7e from a local store, waiting on my refund for the faulty one
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
It would be nice but it's not a deal breaker for me. Although, I haven't ever had a device I didn't end up hacking in some way so it would be a first.
Hahaha every single galaxy has been rooted, of course not on AT&T or Verizon but every other carrier is always rooted. This one will be no exception

Previous Samsung bootloaders were not locked that's why. The S6 was rooted by an exploit which was later patched.

That will most likely be the case. The only way it can be rooted is if someone can find an exploit once the source is released.

Ye the exynos can be rooted as the bootloader is not locked. It's only the snapdragon that cannot be rooted and the source is yet to be released.

There's already a root available for Exynos. I'm holding out as some people are currently working on a root that will not trip Knox so I'm hoping that will be successful and be released very soon.

The s7 for AT&T and Verizon won't be rooted most likely thanks to the locked bootloader. Sprint and T-Mobile will have root.

A lot of people are making that same assumption but all of them are locked so I don't think so myself.

Yea bootloader is locked, even if root is accomplished it will be very limited as far as custom roms and those sort of things, as well as being careful with automatic updates and stuff. I have till Saturday to make my return and barring some new development i more than likely will return mines. A stock device is too basic for me.

My feelings exactly. I love many things about this device but no root means no fun... yes there are a few work arounds but not enough. I hate stupid volume warning message an how I cannot take local backups with twrp an titanium backup. Also. xposed installer.
Back to Note 4 for me. I've been carrying them both around for the past week an surprisingly switching back to the Note 4 isn't that much of a difference justifying worth losing my access to root.
Are people really that negative that the S7 Edge snapdragon varient won't get root?

Petition to unlock Bootloader

This, and the fact that it hasn't really helped in the past.
The real customer to Samsung is Verizon. Not us. We are just Verizon's users of which wealth is to be extracted from.

First rule of purchasing a phone: buy it for the features it has, not the ones it might someday get. Otherwise you will be disappointed.
You knew the bootloader was locked down tight when you bought the phone. There is no chance in hell it is going to get unlocked. Deal with it. If an unlocked bootloader is that important to you you should have bought a Nexus.

If only it had all the same feature. I like the nexus but do like samsung more for the little built in features.

Zv6 should be dropping soon.

whats good with it
Sprint hasn't updated their updates page as of this post.
I got the update but have yet to install, this is what it had to say.
Edit, went ahead and updated, Android patch level is at 2016-09-01
UGH slow ass LG and Sprint
ZV6 Update
Noting that there is not too much of a difference except for the obvious Software version to ZV6 and that Baseband version adds .63052.1 to the end.
I have not been on the the G5 enough to see the difference yet. I will update anything major later.
So if i update will i loose my unlock prob because the baseband update?

So, I guess trying to root this thing is pretty much as dead as Elvis? Kind of sad, phone is great but would be the 1st Android phone I've ever used without root. Probably gonna get the Google pixel soon due to it ?

Anyone know where I can find a zv6 TOT? My g5 is stuck in a bootloop and I've been told that there is downgrade protection.

Oneplus 5 updates schedule

Do you know how long 1+5 is planned to be updated? As i know 1+2 will not get nougat and his competitor Galaxy S6 has it already.

Till oneplus 6 comes, OP5 will be updated regularly.
After op6 release, the updates will be slowed down.
I'm aware of it. But will it get android o only or its planned for additional update? I plan to buy phone for longer time and I want to choose phone which will have long support.

So a quick Google would have got your answer , support is said to be for a minimum of 18 months. No one can say how long it Will be till a new version of Android hits but it's likely a year
