[GUIDE] How to upgrade from Marshmallow B510 to B521 - Honor 4C Guides, News, & Discussion

It's a pretty straightforward guide. Just follow the guide carefully and you'll be in no time rocking with B521.
This guide is divided into 5 sections. Follow all sections in the order illustrated in the guide.
Optional Step (Recommended) : Flash Stock B510
It is generally a good idea to start from a completely fresh base. Although not necessary, you will however, loose all your data and apps. Backup what is important before following.
Flash Stock Recovery (see Step 4 below)
Download B510 from here: https://mega.nz/#!NYgUFYLA!wEEf0f3w_6wxbzr9TYTvTquGBUhsMmRG53G8RSp2xMQ
Copy the Update.APP in the downloaded B510 ROM to dload folder in the root of your external SD card.
Power off your device.
Hold Volume Down, Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until you see the Honor logo. Your device will now automatically flash the whole Update.APP
Step 1 : Flashing Custom Recovery (TWRP in this case)
If you are already on TWRP, then skip this section. Before you follow make sure you have installed Huawei HiSuite and ADB/Fastboot Tools. If not see the links below:
Huawei HiSuite: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
ADB and Fastboot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpcXRmV1BmRk1Ta1k
Extract the ADB and Fastboot zip to any preferred location.
Instructions
Download TWRP 3.0.1 Recovery. Head to this thread for download links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-4c/development/recovery-twrp-3-0-0-0-huawei-honor-4c-t3349495 Copy the downloaded recovery to the folder where you have extracted ADB and Fastboot tools.
Power off your device.
Now while holding Volume Down button attach your device to computer via USB cable. Your device will now automatically switch to Fastboot mode.
In the folder where Recovery and Fastboot tools are present, hold down left shift button and simultaneously press Right mouse button. In the dropdown menu, select Open Command Window here.
Switch to the Command Prompt window and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img
Replace recovery_name with the downloaded recovery's file name.
You have successfully installed TWRP :victory:
Step 2 : Enable Local OTA Update option in Marshmallow
In Marshmallow, Huawei has removed the option to flash OTA updates and Update.APP through the Local Update. Lets get that option back!Credits to this section goes to OXALIS at 4pda.ru for making the patch to enable Local Update option in Huawei Update app.
Download the Huawei Update patch from this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpUXUybmFZeTVXNDg Copy it to either your device's internal memory or a SD card.
Power off your device.
Hold Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously to boot your device to recovery.
Install the zip downloaded in the first step though TWRP.
Step 3 : Removing Root
If your device is currently not rooted and is completely stock, you can skip this section.
Before you follow make sure you have installed Huawei HiSuite and ADB/Fastboot Tools. If not see the links below:
Huawei HiSuite: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
ADB and Fastboot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpcXRmV1BmRk1Ta1k
Extract the ADB and Fastboot zip to any preferred location.
Removing Root
Download Stock Marshmallow boot image from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpY1lBVF9ubFdOSXM Copy it to the folder where you have extracted ADB and Fastboot.
Power off your device.
Now while holding Volume Down button attach your device to computer via USB cable. Your device will now automatically switch to Fastboot mode.
In the folder where Recovery and Fastboot tools are present; hold down left shift button and simultaneously press Right mouse button. In the dropdown menu, select Open Command Window here.
Switch to the Command Prompt window and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot stock_boot_mm.img
Open SuperSU app and click on "Full Unroot" in Settings.
Your device is now unrooted.
Q. Why not just click the 'Unroot" option in SuperSU app?
Although that would work as it does the same the same thing described above i.e. replace patched ramdisk with stock backup, if the backup isn't present (such as you made a Factory Reset), your ramdisk will remain patched even though unrooted. It's good idea to revert to Stock boot.img if you ever need to root again.
Step 4 : Flashing Stock Recovery
It has been literally mentioned a thousand times that you can't flash official ROMs and OTAs through a custom recovery (such as TWRP). You have to be on Stock Recovery.
Before you follow make sure you have installed Huawei HiSuite and ADB/Fastboot Tools. If not see the links below:
Huawei HiSuite: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
ADB and Fastboot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpcXRmV1BmRk1Ta1k
Extract the ADB and Fastboot zip to any preferred location.
Instructions
Download the Marshmallow Stock EMUI Recovery from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0LG0AQ4V9FpbldwYWExOGNTUTQ Copy the recovery to the location where you have extracted ADB and Fastboot tools.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery stock_recovery_mm.img
You have successfully installed Stock Recovery :victory:
Step 5 : Updating to B521
Download the B521 OTA zip from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxgU9yQssu83NTJ6eFBseS1ET3c/view?pref=2&pli=1 (Credits goes to vit755 at 4pda.ru)
Rename the downloaded zip to update.zip and copy it to dload folder in the root of your external SD card.
In your device, open Settings and tap on Update.
Tap the Menu button and then Local Update
Tap the Incremental Update option.
Your device will now reboot to install the update.
Tada! You're done! (Hit thanks if you found this guide useful)

It worked. Now on B521.
Thanks bro

Can anyone provide the changelog for this? is it worth installing over b510?

Help pls.. After installing the update using Huawei updater, the installation got stuck at around 92% so I had to reboot my phone, but now it's stuck in boot loop... I tried flashing the stock Marshmallow rom but I keep on getting install error on forced SD upgrade... My phone version is balong right now..
Edit: I flashed the stock Malaysian Lollipop using forced upgrade and my phone is working again

SU and TWRP after upgrade
Can i revert to SU and TWRP after upgrade to b521?

Are you sure you're on B510. The boot image has been extracted from B510 Update.APP so it should work on all CHM-U01.

I'm on BalongC52B311, CHC—U01, Android 6.0. I suposed equal to B510. Isn´t it?

The CHC-U01 will not work. You have to manually upgrade to B510 first.
The most easiest method is to downgrade to C636B330 and upgrade to B510.

Finally, B521

[ROOT]How to get root Moto G 2015 With Android Marshmallow 6.0 (worked in XT1541)

:fingers-crossed:How to get root Moto G 2015 With Stock Android Marshmallow 6.0 (XT1541)
Hi guys. Now I have a Moto G 2015 XT1541 with previously unlocked bootloader (following Motorola Guide described here, be careful unlocking bootloader wipes everything!) with recently installed Europe Retail Stock ROM MM 6.0, but i was having some issues trying to install TWRP 3.0 and SuperSU 2.65....until now.
With latest SuperSU you will get bootloop, and probably you need to reinstall the stock rom completely.........but... ....This method works fine!
Try it yourself on XT1540, XT1542, XT1543, XT1544 and XT14548 variants
So, I have used TWRP twrp-osprey-2.8.7-r7.img for the recovery and Super SU Beta 2.62 (BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip) to get root on my device.
Get TWRP recovery and ROOT
Step 0: enter to developer options (tap 7 times the build number) and select Allowing USB debubbing and Allow OEM unlock options
Step 1: install TWRP 2.8.7-r7 entering to bootloader mode
Turn off the device, press power and volume down and wait for two seconds. device will show bootloader mode in black screen, connect it to the pc through usb cable
Step 2: Paste twrp2.8.7-r7.img file into folder \Android\sdk\platform-tools and rename it to recovery.img (this requires previously installed Android SDK Tools, but you can do the same with MinimalADB
open cmd in windows, navigate to the platform-tools folder location and write this line:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Wait until ok message appears in cmd
TWRP will appear, and press reboot System. Enter bootloader mode again and type in CMD the following:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Wait until ok message appears in cmd. After that, press in bootloader mode the recovery option, you will enter to twrp and now new recovery becomes permanent, press Reboot system.
Step 3: copy BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip file into the device and after that, disconnect it from usb
Step 4: turn off the device, enter bootloader mode as stated in step 1, and select the recovery option with the volume up and down , press power button to enter to recovery and twrp will appear instead of original recovery.
Step 5: in twrp press install, select location of the Beta SuperSu File, select beta Super SU zip file and allow installation swipping to the right side and wait until it finish.
Step 5.1: after flash Super SU, wipe dalvik and cache through twrp, pressing the wipe dalvik/cache button located in left side.
Step 6: in twrp press button reboot now.
Wait a little while android rebuild the cache.
The device will enter to the home screen. check that super su app is installed

}
Note: if twrp offers to you install SuperSu dont let it. That causes a bug.
Step 7: Install Root checker and check if you are root.
Thats all folks!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus 1 - If something goes wrong you can reinstall Stock as described in this repair guides. Check here the firmware and here the reinstall instructions
Plus 2 - How to delete the Motorola annoying unlock bootloader message:
Step 0: connect the device to the pc, copy unlocked_logo.zip file into the device and after that, disconnect from usb
Step 1:
Turn off the device, press power and volume down and wait for two seconds. device will show bootloader mode in black screen
Step 2: In bootloader mode select with the volume up and down the recovery option, press power button to enter and twrp will appear
Step 3: in twrp press install, select location of the unlocked_logo.zip File, select that file and allow installation swipping to the right
Step 4: in twrp press reboot now. The device will boot without nagging window.
Excellent instructions. First time I saw detail to flash TWRP in a manner that does not revert back to stock recovery.
One recommendation, after the first boot to recovery, make a clean (pre-root, pre-cutom recovery) TWRP back up to your SD Card. If anything goes wrong, just flash this backup.

Man I wish read your advice last night before I used one of those automated programs to root (installed latest super su) and bootloop city. I figured I would make a backup right after rooting.
I recovered by installing a close to stock 5.11 rom with twrp but would like to get back to MM without starting from scratch.
Does anyone know of a Stock MM rom (not ASOP) that can be installed with twrp?
If you get that The phone is not allowed to unlocked The bootloader when i try, how can i unlocked it then

I've had it do that on a new flash and I just held the power down until it shut off and when I turned it back on it boots normally.
Thanks, did not understand why the latest version not started, I see that you can not install a more current than version 2.65.

Make sure you have a portable SD Card installed. Then simply boot TWRP, set back up location to SD Card, and make back up. If you never used TWRP, you may want to Google it and learn a little before your first attempt.
roouted my device, everything ok
Just to report, it worked on my XT1543 (dual sim, 1GB)
Enviado de meu MotoG3 usando Tapatalk
Couldn't get this to work on XT1541 with 24.44.1.osprey_reteu_reteu.en.EU reteu with the instructions mentioned in the first post.
I got things to work by using the latest SuperSU and forced it to install in system-less mode. This worked quite well.
1. First go to bootloader using power+volumedown or from PC:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
2. Then boot TWRP (3.0.0-r2 in my case worked fine):
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-osprey-3.0.0-r2.img
3. Now copy SuperSU to the phone:
Code:
adb push BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip /sdcard/
4. Next make sure SuperSU will install in system-less mode:
Code:
adb shell
echo SYSTEMLESS=true > /data/.supersu
5. Install SuperSU by pressing "Install" in TWRP, select BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip and swipe. After installing you should see in the log that it used system-less mode. Now you can "Clear Cache/Dalvik" as well.
6. Now reboot. It should show the "Warning Bootloader Unlocked" screen once, then reboot, then show it again and this time it should continue booting into Android.
Hi guys, for me I had NO problem flashing "BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip" using "twrp-osprey-3.0.0-r2.img" on MPI24.65-33.1 Build number XT1541 (+ Allow OEM unlock options)

Rooting new Nougat version

Hi all,
I just recently upgraded my US Version of the M3 32Gb to the new factory nougat EMUI 5.0 version. This was the OTA from huawei since hadn't rooted my tablet. I now want to get the 5Ghz WiFi band to turn on, and from what I get, you have to root the device and update a couple of files. Can someone guide me to the steps of how to perform the root. I got the steps to unlock my bootloader. I am just not sure what the steps are to root.
Thanks in advance!
If you have to ask you probably shouldn't be messing with root...

Compared to unlocking the bootloader and upgrading EMUI 5 it's much easier. I did it and it works.
You will need to have TWRP installed and then flash SuperSU-v2.79-EMUI5.0.zip
Google How to Root Huawei MediaPad M3 EMUI5 Android 7
1. create a new folder and extract the adb file and twrp & supersu in that folder
ADB :
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862726185
SuperSU-v2.82-EMUI5 (dont extract the zip file)

TWRP (greatslon mod) (download the right version for your device!!!!)

now run this commands:
adb reboot bootloader (need to enable usb debugging)
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot (wait till your device booted )
adb reboot recovery (need to enable usb debugging)
adb sideload su.zip (rename SuperSU-v2.82-EMUI5 to su so you dont need to type that much)

Thank you guys, I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the help. Looking through your steps, they are straight forward. I just have one question about twrp. My assumption is I need to use twrp_BTV-W09_5_greatslon.img since I am on nougat, is that correct? I tried searching the forums, I think I found one post that stated the _5 is for nougat, but just wanted to confirm.
Thanks!
BTV-W09 (WiFi) => twrp.zip
BTV-DL09 (LTE) => twrp_us.zip
check your version info in settings......mine is the BTV-W09 (wifi version) so i flashed the twrp.zip
ps: you can check this threat for more info too

Thanks, I understand that the BTV-DL09 is for LTE and the BTV-W09 is for wifi. However, on Twrp's page, there are two versions of the BTV-W09 image, one is the twrp_BTV-W09_5_greatslon.img and the other is twrp_BTV-W09_greatslon.img. I was trying to understand the difference.

I had lost root when I used the firmware updater to go to nougat and couldn't get back into twrp to flash magisk again no matter what I did. This worked and I was also able to get the first successful full nandroid backup I've ever had with this device afterwards. Thanks.
BTW - you don't need to rename anything, just type the first two letters of the file and hit tab for autocomplete.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the boot loader unlock code from the web site? I just bought a new wi-fi (no IMEI) BTV-W09 and I validated the serial and product id like 10 times, but I'm getting "Please make sure the verification code and model number are correct. If your device has multiple IMEIs or MEIDs, please try another IMEI or MEID." on the website. I emailed customer support and they told me that they could not give me the unlock code...
I just want to unlock my 5g Wi-Fi...

Should I flash the superSU once again? flash the zip in the recovery?

Dear friend, you say this <<create a new folder and extract the adb file and twrp & supersu in that folder>>
In a few lines below you say: << SuperSU-v2.82-EMUI5 (dont extract the zip file)>> So what is the right action,to extract or not the SuperSu...in the folder that we created before?

Does the rom link given here unzips perfectly?
Because i saw in another thread of Lenovo K8note titled firmware, users unable to unzip due to error in system img. Also downloading from baidu needs a user id. If its possible could you or anyone else reading this upload it in some other online storage drive. Im little bit worried about getting a worse situation while rooting. Even if it goes wrong i can use the stock firmware to make it back.

ZTE Blade V9 Vita, Install TWRP, Root & Custom Rom without bootloader unlock

Before doing this, carefully read the material and read the instructions. If you do everything point by point, then you will succeed.
1. Setup
Donwload the following utilities:
Partitions Flashing Tool - Universal partition tools for qualcomm snapdragon 435
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=952274&view=findpost&p=85383238
Custom Recovever - TWRP-3.3.1.0-V9Vita.img
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1diPzJ_qcZRvzVFPRdE139ggCk9vgzG72/view?usp=sharing
Disable encryption - Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_08.02.2019[1].zip (attached in theme)
2. Install
When you download all utillites, unpack Partition Flasting Tool in any folder and open batch file - PFT_V1.5_EN.bat, connect you're smartphone to PC, and press in utillites number 2 (ADB to Reboot EDL mode changer). You're phone go to EDL mode 9008. Tape number 4 (Backup One Partition), Enter COM Port, Enter target partition name: recovery. Next step is flash custom recovery - twrp.
Put file - TWRP-3.3.1.0-V9Vita.img in files folder, rename him in twrp.img. When is done, press number 5 (Flash one partition),
Enter COM Port:
Enter Target partition name: - recovery
Enter Flashing file name: - twrp (or your recovery file name)
After the installation of the process, turn on phone in recovery mode (VolumeUP+Power). In TWRP use swipe and go to Wipe, press right button Format Data, tape YES and OK. Done?! Go to EDL mode, use number 2 (ADB to Reboot EDL mode changer) in utillites PFT 1.5. Now need flash stock recovery (that you're backup). Use number 5 (Flash one partition),
Enter COM Port:
Enter Target partition name: - recovery
Enter Flashing file name: - recovery (or your recovery file name)
How it complete, turn on phone in recovery mode, now we are in stock recovery, press wipe data \ factory reset. Next go to EDL, use number 2 (ADB to Reboot EDL mode changer). Flash TWRP again as we as we did before. In EDL mode use press number 5 (Flash one partition):
Enter COM Port:
Enter Target partition name: - recovery
Enter Flashing file name: - twrp (or your recovery file name)
At the end of the installation, turn on phone in recovery mode (VolumeUp+Power), put zip file Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_08.02.2019[1].zip in any folder, flash him (this disable encryption (Otherwise you get an error - encryption failed)). When zip flash is done, reboot phone as system, now you have Working TWRP and correct Stock\Custom Roms install without error.
3. Install Custom Roms
Download any TREBLE Rom, example LineageOS 16.0:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development/gsi-lineageos-16-0-gsi-arm64-ab-how-to-t3908029
Copy to phone and flash as img in system image, reboot to system, and wait for the installation process to complete. Use for your own purposes.
4. Install Custom Roms
Go to https://opengapps.org, Download any pack (pico), copy on the phone folder, reboot to recovery mode, go to Wipe, press left button - advanced wipe, tap on system (set checkbox on system), Tap on Repair or Change File System, next Change File System. Now you will not have error 70.
For root use magisk 16.0 or 16.7

PFT2 works, I checked it myself. You just need to download not the latest version from the releases, there are problems with the flash!

The author has fixed all the problems in the recent update of version 1.20. I checked for past errors, there are none, so it is worth using PFT2 instead of PFT (I suppose PFT2 is a further development of the utility without the "2" in the name )

You can't get full root rights on your smartphone without unlocking the bootloader. The loader can't be unlocked without the factory (test) MBN file. ZTE really steamed over this.
To get incomplete root rights you need to:
1. Download the archive from this link (I'm new, you can't leave links, so take the QR code)

3. Through device recovery mode, erase (wipe) all data
4. Install the file "magisk583.apk" (or "magisk591.apk" [Beta] for "bootmagisk167.fdf") on Android and check for root rights

TWRP for LENOVO Tab M10 FHD - TB-X606F?

Hello, Possessing two tablets of this brand, I was wondering if a custom recovery existed for this one, I can look everywhere on all the forums, Russian, English, etc ... But, I do not find.
If anyone can create one with this SOURCE CODE from the tablet that would be super nice.
I succeded to install twrp on my lenovo x606F.
1) extract recovery.img from a downloaded full firmware
2) download "Mediatek (MTK) Auto TWRP recovery porter by Team Hovatek" v. 1.6 and use it to create a twrp.img from your recovery
3) flash your twrp image by adb:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
4) then flash an empty vbmeta.img that you find on team hovatek site by this command (Method 3 - Flashing vbmeta https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-32719.html ):
fastboot --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
5) reboot in recovery. You will receive a message that your partition is encrypted. tap "cancel" and follow the steps indicated on this page (Method 3 - Patching fstab in /vendor partition using TWRP + Text editor https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-30160.html ). You have to backup on your microsd your two fstab.* files in /vendor/etc folder and then modify as indicated. Then, by twrp, overwite them on your original files.
6) reboot in android and flash your original recovery
7) reboot in your stock recovery and make a full data erase. YOU LOST ALL YOUR PERSONAL DATA.
8) reboot in android and reinstall twrp recovery
9) reboot in your full working twrp recovery and check if it is all ok.
When you boot in your twrp, your screen is black, so you have to push power button to light your screen. You can fix it
by checking all three option in magisk manager (keep encryption, keep verity and recovey mode) and reinstall magisk root.
I'm not responsable for any damage on your device. Sorry for my english

Are you sure? TWRP Recovery Porter says that vbmeta.img must be flashed BEFORE twrp image.
I made several attempts to install twrp. When I succeeded, I installed vbmeta.img after twrp. But, during my previous attempts, I had already installed vbmeta. So, it is possible that the right steps are to install it first.
So, did anyone else succeed with these steps?

I just rooted Lenovo M8 FHD TB-8705F (Android 9) using the Hovatek Method 3 guide:
flashed empty vbmeta
flashed boot.img created by Magisk
I tried the steps above with the TB-X606F on Android 10 (I used the lenovo recovery tool to rescue os and ended up with android 10) and I am unable to get it working. If I flash the generated twrp image and the vbmeta one (doesn't matter which order) and reboot recovery I get a black screen and no amount of pushing the power button gets the screen to turn on. I have not tried the boot.img file generated by Magisk yet. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have the same problem and can't proceed rooting for this reason.
adb works fine. Device is shown, commands like reboot into fastboot mode works fine. But "fastboot devices" does not show an entry.
I've tried to (re-) install the drivers CDC, VCOM, ... several times. I'v tried the "Latest ADB Fastboot and USB Driver installer tool for Windows". Doesn't work.
In device manager, Android Bootloader Interface is shown with an error.

To fix this update your driver to Samsung's adb interfrance and it will work.
I got my TB-X606F rooted but struggle to install TWRP. I believe I'm on Android 10, the latest? I used [Hovatek] Mediatek Auto TWRP Recovery Porter V1.7a by Team Hovatek because I couldn't find version 1.6. I got the recovery.img directly from TB-X606F_S300007_200923_BMP.zip. I select Android 10 in the Android Version and output the TWRP recovery. Then I flashed and flashed the vbmeta (both the version from my zip file and the version from Hovatek. Then I flashed using multiple instructions. When I boot to recovery, it just gives the orange box screen then eventually fully boots to OS. Anything I'm forgetting?
I upgraded to Android 10. I installed again twrp by "Mediatek Auto TWRP Recovery Porter V1.7a". Android 10 version don't work well. "Pie Kernel 4.9.117" version works perfectly. The steps I follow are similar to my previous post. Insted of "forceencrypt" there is "forcefdeorfbe" in fstab.mt6765 file.
