[Q] Got stuck with a blacklisted S7 Edge.. help please! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Ok so I didn't read up on the T-Mobile s7 edge or I may not have opted to buy it due to be screwed over many times on different websites and getting blacklisted eip phones but usually I use <REMOVED> well I went and bought the s7edge the other day and unlocked it used it with straighttalk come find out straighttalk blacklist my sim and now my phone is pretty much useless... Is there anyway around the imei blacklist on the s7edge I seen a website called <REMOVED>. But I don't know about them as I have only used <REMOVED> and the fact they say no root or imei change require has me a lil iffy .. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds fishy. At best it's someone on the inside with control over "the list" and at worse it's a scam.

I'd really just rather unlock it I paid 400 for it so it is what is. Ya know lol I'm just pissed I thought I'd be able to change the imei like I have done many other times with financed devices the seller didn't post it was blacklisted they said they just changed networks ... I had it happen one time and I sent the phone back for the refunds and I lost refund and money then one time I filed a paypal claim on chargeback and lost all my money

Bro, I would of learned my lesson the FIRST time this happened to me. I don't even buy phones on Craigslist no more unless they are willing to meet up at the store to confirm it is paid off. I've read so many stories like this. And really you should of known better. An s7 edge for $400? Thats an instant red mark.

I've never heard of successfully connecting a blacklisted device Anywhere. I've heard people only get calls and text but no data. The IMEI is what makes you phone. IT. Without it the phone doesn't exist. It's like loosing EFS

insurance claim for lost vibrant

so my friend got a vibrant, and he wanted to file a claim for a lost phone to get one for his brother. as far as I know this is illegal. can you guys give me some examples of things that might happen to him if he goes through with it or some possible consequences? "it's illegal" isn't seeming to convince him.
Insurnce fraud. He would go to jail most likely.
TMobile can track the missing phone using gps and cell towers. They'll see where the phone is and get it for him instead of giving him a new one.

Well your friend is slightly dumb. First of all, the lost phone is blocked for life. Meaning if anyone ever tries to put a sim card in it, and use it, on any network, it won't work. It is permanently blocked from registering onto any network. So basically your friend is going to get 1 refurbished phone in the mail, and his new vibrant will be blacklisted for ever.
Next, if they find out about the fraud, well he can face fraud charges. If he is underage on a family plan, his parents will face fraud charges.
Good luck.
thanks guys!
Its cheaper to buy one from wal-mart than to file a claim (Wal-mart new two year contract is $98.99, asurion charges $130, not to mention you run the risk (more likely than not) you'd get caught.)

well i have to say this is a bunch of bs... i havent done this but known people that have and nothing happens to the other phone they work fine and they dont track you down or go on some sort of man hunt lol but if you say you lost your phone it would be best to not use it anymore get another phone and give the one you had to whoever as long as its not on your plan you should be good.
just so you know im not a fan of thieves but i believe in stealing from big companies cause they steal from people everyday so i would say its fair...
You can do whatever you wish. I found my g1 from a club. Used it for 2 years no prob. Its a gsm phone so whatever the case anyone can put a sim card and use it. How you do it as far as claiming to get a new one is your business

They will not blacklist it and they will not track it down.lol
Insurance don't deal with the phone company. You can claim online without ever speaking to anyone .
Also they do blacklist the sim but a new sim will work, this isn't cdma where ya need to call the phone company to activate a new bought phone, just put in your sim...
Hell who says ya can't lose it, then find it a week later, what you supposed to do send it back?
You pay the 130 you got 2 phones that work. My wife just lost her tp2 and we asked if whoever found it can just put on a new card and its now there phone, dude said yup, we can stop the sim but the phone is gone....

Well, tell your friend that when he dies god is going to know he did it and will definitely be really pissed off and condemn him to spend all eternity in Pittsburgh with an incurable case of crabs on his nuts.
Seriously though, tell your friend to stop being shady and just man up and buy another phone if he wants it.

actually you can say you still have your sim but not the phone and they will be like ok? and you get to keep your sim still lol
T-Mobile can and most likely will block the IMEI number from being able to register on the network. They've done it multiple times for my sister when she has had the phone stolen or lost. They can insert another SIM card all they want and it won't work. It might work on AT&T, I don't know if the companies share blacklisted IMEI numbers.
Most likely, they would not go through the process of prosecuting a fraud case on something like this because the cost of the lawyers and other legal fees outweigh the cost of just paying the claim but you never know.

for your information, they do blacklist the phone from working. If you file a claim the phone was lost/stolen, the phone will be blacklisted and no longer work when you try to register on a network.

holly cow, you have a wife? with the comments you leave on here, I thought you were a 12 yr old.
they don't blacklist the IMEI because whoever finds it still has to have a service provider... its the same way with the iphone... Phone company is gonna get paid, regardless of whoever has the phone. I do think however that they lock the number associated with the simcard to prevent "fraudulent activities" i think its like 30 days i remember reading that at the tmobile website
google tmobile insurance replacement FAQs it lays it all out.
good luck, best to do it with a prepaid card so you don't lock a good number...
not that i would ever condone such behavior
Soooo not true.

I've been in the cell industry for the last 6 years and can tell you for a fact, with GSM phones they do not blacklist or lock IMEI's. Its not even possible. The only thing they might do is see if you are stupid enough to use the lost phone on your own plan.

It all depends on how you bought it. If you paid cash, you might be out of luck. If you used a credit or debit card, then perhaps your provider offers some kind of refund policy. If it was PayPal, then you can likely get the refund.

Lol sorry guys i probably shouldve added more details..
Ok.. Heres the story... Transaction took place on Craigslist..
So I had a blue color galaxy S3 and didnt like the color, traded it for a new nexus 4.. Nexus 4 was fine, and I was really wanting a titanium S3.. Found the S3 and bought it.. Sold the nexus 4 to a guy for 310.. The nexus 4 was working great until yesterday.. Guy calls me up thinking i sold him a stolen phone.. As far as I knew it was a good phone, i check the imei and it says its been reported stolen, so i offer to give the guy back his money.. Now im stuck with a blacklisted N4.. Need help. Anywhere I can go to revive the phone? Or anywhere I can sell it to? What are my options? Is it possible to flash a ROM or do something when rooted to change the Imei..? At least make it useable because the guy i originally traded with decided to change his number and now im out $310.. whats the best thing to do? I cant go to the cops, they will tell me im associated with the theft, asked tmobile they want to fill out a bull**** report..
is there a way to flash a Rom or something to maybe hide the Imei or something? Use a different carrier? unlock it even though its unlocked?
Or should i get my mini screw drivers and start to disassemble it to sell for parts? Man i feel ****ty doing this.. I mean im so against stolen things and i just hate to deal with it ugh

Buy an N4 with broken screen for cheap and replace the mainboard. Installing other roms won't help you. Or replace the screen with your phones screen. Do wat is the easiest to replace.

You can buy stuff off of CL, but you have to be smart. I've bought dozens of phones off CL (and sold) and was only burned once. I bought an Atrix 4G with a wonky touch screen. Actually, I bought an EVO 4G with a wonky touch screen too but that was just my fault, I showed up to meet the guy a little intoxicated lol. Anyway, when I bought my Nexus 4 (new) I had the guy bring the receipt from Google Play and give it to me. I also asked a lot of questions....

Those are both rather silly remarks.
You're a victim, why would the police be anything but sympathetic to you? And it's not a bs report, it's a report detailing the crime. Maybe they can track the original scammer down with that report. Maybe your insurance co will reimburse you with that report. Don't lose whatever small chance you have by being too lazy to fill out some paperwork.

You sure the dude just didn't "buy" the nexus 4 and then give you back a non working Nexus 4 and you give him his money back. Did the nexus you get back match up with the one you gave to him. Like serials and stuff

If this helps... I'm from Belgium and I bought my phone off someone from England.
Got a pretty good deal too (as it was new)
The catch was that it was blacklisted too...he sent me the reportcard and apparantly that stated that it was only blocked by 2 providers. None of which I am using.
So maybe switching providers could work OR since Belgium has no (or nearly no) providers linked to the phones as they don't come in deals the phone just works, blacklisted or not. So try selling it abroad and buy buy yourself a new one.
I doubt that you can unblock it.
Is it blacklisted by T-mobile or Google? If it is blacklisted by T-mobile it should work on AT&T and it will definitely work overseas.

No it won't as all the major US carriers started reporting to a national blacklist database as of October of 2012.

The database is launched, but the carriers are not sharing IMEI's yet. Bad ESN Verizon phones work on other carriers and blocked T-mobile or AT&T phones will still work on the others network. The thing is, not only does the IMEI have to be entered into the database, but the carrier manually has to apply that to their own database to effectively block it from their network.
And, a blacklisted phone will most definitely work overseas.

FCC and Verizon

Sent off a complaint to the FCC in regard to non-vzw nexus 6 on the vzw network. Basically, I said that the CFR states that they cant prevent us from using services the way there were intended to be just becaue we are using a non-vzw device. I spoke with someone at the FCC and they said I should file the complaint becuase not allowing customers to change their account details violates the C-block CFR.
Lets see where this goes.....
It is seeming more and more that Verizon doesn't want customers. I am about to leave them but I have unlimited grandfather data so I can't.

Same boat. I am certainly no fan of their nonsense. I swear they do stuff just because they can or to see if they can get away with it. Too bad they are the only 4G signal around. Damn them and their awesome network.

I have had three different reps tell me that they would return my call about changing stuff on my plan....never got call back and the executive office pretty much told me to go pound sand. Guess they forgot about the block-c rules they signed when gaining those bands.

Looking into it all now, sad day when they will let a customer who has been a customer since the bell atlantic days just walk because they cant get their heads out of their butts.

Google and Motorola Should Be Held Accountable
Read the following article for background:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...te-one-that-wasnt-purchased-from-the-carrier/
Google and Motorola should team up and take Verizon to court over this issue. Probably won't happen, they all share the same bed.
Google and Motorola should at the very least post a warning for Nexus 6 buyers about the problems with Verizon service and non-branded Verizon devices.
My feeling is that the financial folks at Verizon are making these type of poor decisions. Verizon is just too big to be held accountable for their behavior.
Rant off ....
What's the issue? Motorola phones work on and off Vzw network, and plan changes have nothing to do with your phone. Been with VZW for 10 yrs and never had issues. I have a Mot bought Nexus 6 and works beautifully. What issues are people seeing?

This is not true.
If your devices is basically "unknown" they freeze the settings. For example my play store GPS they would not add volte to my account. Had to put my sim in a verizon nexus 6 for 5 minutes for them to make the change.

They started blocking imei samsung or sprint.

i just check my imei and its showing blacklisted thats after i gave samsung my imei for the return and waiting on shipping box. as of Tuesday. be careful guys think sprint or Samsung are blocking imei now

I said before, they will be black listed eventually. It's easy for them to start black listing them as they get them back. They are not going to want to accidentally have them activated again.
I don't think we have to worry for now, but at some point I would bet money there if a forced blacklist of all Note 7s if you kept it or not. I don't think they can make you return it, but they can keep you from using it on their network.

How did you unlock your Sprint Note 7 for use with AT&T?
I talked to a connection I have at Sprint (high up), they will not be blocking Note 7s unless you swap them out to Samsung, then they go dead as if lost. If you choose to keep it, they are not cutting you off or forcing you turn them over, it's only recommended. In fact less than half of the Note 7 user have return them and are still active as of today.
Hmmm.... Has anyone heard of anymore Notes going up in smoke? Last I heard 97 had went up in flames here in the United States. I haven't heard of any new cases since before the recall got expanded.

Surprisingly easy to believe. Pretty sad. I'm just trying to decide how long to keep my device though. Updates. Support. Even insurance. It's all a question now. Until the next big thing at least
Sure they are blocking phones turned in with the recall but NOT phones that are still active.
Mine is fine as well!! Note 7 is not going to leave my hands, unless of course after all this time it decides to explode, but i'm not counting on it.:good:

Where to get an SIM/Carrier unlock code for a AT&T Note10+

I'm trying to find a place that you guys had success getting a AT&T Note10+ carrier unlocked.
I read since this phone is quite new most unlock sources are not able to unlock them.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your family my friend
you can pay it off and have att unlock it like normal people do.. bypassing this means you got the device through unconventional means or you dont want to pay for the device usually which is the property of att until its paid in full which some might translate into stealing or fraud.. just saying..
why did you buy an att model if you need to use it on another carrier in the first place?
also, sometimes its not possible to simply use an "unlock code" and sometimes requires a physical connection to the device which might not b a good idea to let some random off the internet to do

I asked the question and you came on to start talking trashing about what I did, didn't or trying to do, you have too much bloody time on your hands????????
I have been an AT&T customer for close to 20 years and always paid for my stuff.
Not that it's any of your FREAKING BUSINESS but I can't pay off the phone because my Black Friday rebate from Costco requires me to stay on the payment plan for at least 3 months or I will lose the rebate.
I have an overseas trip coming up at the end of January and I would like to use my phone with a local prepaid SIM card, that is why I want to unlock my phone.
You need to ask questions first because start mouthing off garbage making judgement on other people, trying to steal the phone, no I have no need to do so but if that is how your logic work s then you most likely would be one doing such things.
Talking about being a 'normal people', normal people with average intelligence usually ask questions before posting stupid trash talk making assumptions about whom they know nothing about. Yes I just made an assumption about your intelligence but mine was based on your post so I'm sure it's not too far off.

lol aww.. someone got upset.. cry me a river bro.. it doesnt change the fact you want to circumvent ATT policies to unlock the device which is called fraud.
I also like how you mention always paying off your devices then not paying the device almost in the same sentence.
I could honestly care less what you want it unlocked for. Karma always catches up. You should have thought of your trip when purchasing a device and plan ahead instead of trying to weasel your way around the carriers policies by committing fraud and trying to modify ATT's property (yes its still their property until its paid in full which you surely agreed to in your contract.)
I honestly didnt mean to offend you or anyone else but obviously my personality is too much for you to cope with. If you would have just asked nicely after I asked a few questions in my previous post I would have helped you. Instead you took my honest question as an insult when I was just trying to make sure nothing shady was going on as I do in most situations before helping to ensure I am not breaking any laws.

I read may be two lines of your reply but I'm glad you took the time to post a response so others can see how stupid your logic is so yeah, I'm enjoying my nice sunny S.Cal Sunday afternoon and will not waste my time with you any more than I have so this post is hereby unsubscribed and ignored.
BTW, my son read it just now and called you a typical stupid self-righteous snowflake he ran into at his college all the time.
