Slow charging rate on S7 Edge? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

EDIT: It seems like the design to not charge at more than 10watts from start to finish is intentional. We're out of luck until the CM people make a new kernel which charges appropriately.

Another battery thread...

I didn't want to make a thread about this until I've had some time to test. But has anyone with v1.5 noticed that the battery drains noticeably faster? I've been on it for over a week, hoping it would "calibrate" itself, but it still seems like it drains faster. This is not a rant, I just want to know if anyone else experiences this.
There is a thread about this in the developer forum.

Bad battery life? Slow Charging may help!

I've been pretty unimpressed with the battery life on my S6. I've always used the included fast charger. Today I used someone else's charger from an old Android phone. It may be a fluke but my screen on time has jumped from 3-4 hours to a solid 6 hours. Could it be possible that slow charging is the reason for this? Give it a try and let me know if it works for you too!

Charging Galaxy S7 (Edge)

Hi,
I'm currently looking for a new phone. I find the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge very interesting en beautiful devices, but I have one question where I cannot find an answer for through Google. With my current phone (Galaxy S3), after a few months the charging was going very slow. I know it is a common problem for a lot of phones. The solutions provided by internet: get a high quality adapter/cable, turn the device off while charging, use a battery saver app etc. etc.) are not reliable and/or expensive solutions. I see a little improvement if I use another cable/adapter but the only good permanent fix I had for this issue is using the boeffla kernel with a parandroid ROM. In this kernel I can configure a fixed charge current en I can ignore unstable power (so the phone doesn't negotiate with the poweradapter about how much current it takes, the phone takes just the current I set). I know it could probably damage the poweradapter/phone battery, but I'm willing tot take this risk when I can charge my device always quick, no matther where I charge my phone and with what cable/adapter.
Back to the S7 (Edge). If I google for "slow charging S7" I see lots of people that have problems with charging, simaler as I discribed above about my Galaxy S3. I know the Galaxy S7 (Edge) has quickcharge 2.0 support, but that only works with quickcharge enabled poweradapters. And for example, if I need to charge the phone in my car or with my powerbank (that doesn't support quickcharge), and probably even after a few months with the standard cable/poweradapter that comes with the device, I'm afraid charging wil go very slow again.
So my question is: Is there an solution to set also a fixed charging current for the Galaxy S7 / Galaxy S7 Edge? I'm planning to root my phone and I'm probably going to install a custom ROM, so I don't mind installing a custom ROM/kernel as long as it's stable.
Regards,

I have had my s7 edge since it was released here in the uk and I can tell you that it charges at the same speed and time as it did the first day I got it. I have not experienced any slow down . The only thing I have experienced is that the battery is lasting longer after each update the s7 edge recieves. It takes about 1 hour and 30 mins for my s7 edge to charge up from 5 percent.
Ok, thanks for your message! Well, I guess I'm going to buy the phone and hope that charging the device quickly won't be a problem.

Slow Charging on 7.1.2

so this topic was being discussed in the RR 7.1.2 official thread as many/some of the members there are having this issue. moved here as not to spam the thread there and deviate from the main topic. can anyone advise on that? using original charger and cable. getting between 200 and 700mah. and hope this isn't a deviation from the topic, but any progress or workaround the shutdown bug when phone reaches <= 20%? or any other percentage other than 0?

Hello,
I'm not aware of the slow charging issue. I haven't updated my wife's N6P yet as I'm waiting for Pure Nexus developer to release 7.1.2
Just... There's no progress or workaround for the early shutdown issue. The batteries have likely degraded prematurely. People still under warranty get their battery replaced by Google/Huawei...
Cheers...
i have no shutdown bug thankfully, but i can confirm that ever since i flashed DU Official 7.1.2 rom , charging has slowed down quite significantly.
i do not know why but i defintely noticed that charging has become much slower than when i was on 7.1 hmmm

that's what happened on RR as well. not all but some members are mentioning it. so i started this thread, in case someone would have the knowledge how to fix it. there was a thread for a thermal mod or something in General, but then a warning on using it arose. so... hope someone can give some solution

i know about that thermal mod , but i dislike using such things.
i only use custom kernel (flash kernel) and that's it.
i thought it was only me, but seriously now that i see this 'slow charging on 7.1.2'
i straight out remembered that how over the last few weeks charging my phone has become so slow.
it used to charge it super fast.
now i'm wondering whether i should go back to 7.1 =_=

i came all the way from MM. missing xposed and this charging speed...but i do have faith someone will point us in the right direction...hopefully
Is anyone using accubattery? Seems like a good app telling you how much your battery has degraded over time and your charging speed. Don't know how accurate it is.
My phone has been bone stock since day one. Regarding slow charging , I have not ran across it. Maybe issues for phones running custom roms .. etc.
You said original cable and charger. I'm an electrical engineer and flexible cables are notorious for wires microfracturing which is considered an open path. Because they are moved around, bent, twisted, and the bundle of tiny conductors began to have breaks in some of them which will reduce it's total ampacity. Hence charging very slow. Kinda like bending a piece of aluminum back and forth eventually it breaks in half. Have you used a new Virgin cable to eliminate it as the culprit? That is most certainly the number one cause of slow charging.

I did try other cables with sane output. Thing is i tried MM and fast charging is there. Come to 7.1.2 it gives slow charging
i just reverted back to 6.0 RR and these are the results. so i guess it is rom based. hope that helps
and this is on stock ROM
so it's a rom issue apparently. just flashed screw'd latest build and i am getting charging rapidly. couldn't be happier
I don't want to blame ROMs for giving phone issues , but the official OEM software that are built for the phone works. Once you modify builds, kernals , etc...the phone will turn out different, thus will have issues. I have been using bone stock 6p since day one. The only issue i had was the 7.1.2 beta lol ...

Try a different kernel if there is one.
already moved to Screw'd and all perfect there. no charging issues. just elementalX kernel and top notch.thanks
I'm on latest stable DU 7.1.2 and haven't noticed a slow charging issue. As for the early shutdown bug someone in this section posted a solution a week or two ago that he claimed worked for him and allowed the battery to go back to draining below 20%. It should be easy enough to find if you look for it. I don't know if it actually works because I haven't experienced that issue either but most people report that the issue does go away if you change the battery.
I have had this problem since 7.1.1 on pure Nexus. I clean flashed to 7.1.2 on pure Nexus yesterday and still not receiving rapid charging. Any thoughts?

As mentioned I'm on pure Nexus Rom. I'm using stock charger. Have tried my spare charger and backup cables too. Could it be a port issue?

XA2 Real life review

Hi all,
I got myself XA2 (not Ultra) and I wanted to share my thoughts about it in real life.
My previous phone was Z5 compact. This is important as they share the camera sensor.
In my opinion, photos are much better, probably due to software optimisation. Will share the comparison later.
Next, the signal levels are much better, I'm getting 4G/4G+ in places where with Z5C I would be on H+ in the best case. Wi-Fi is also working better.
Last but not the least - battery life seems much better, mostly (again, my opinion), due to the fact that it's not overheating as much as Z5c. It still does though, when under a direct sunlight (in a car, on a windshield) and under usage, battery goes up to 45 degrees, but it doesn't slow down. I think they increased throttling limit. It heats up to 39-40 degrees when charging at 1.5A as well. But, in both cases, it cools down very fast.
Also, one small detail - with same apps, it only lost 3-5% of battery during 8h sleep at night, which is vaaast improvement over 15-20% with Z5c.
As I get more days of usage, will try to share more details.
P.S. It's weird that there is no sub-forum for XA2, only for XA2 Ultra...
Weird, I posted to XA2 Discussion, but the thread appeared here. Could moderators move the thread please?

Isn't CERN policy against using the CERN official account for things other than work related stuff? Pretty sure it has been written in the security report so many times.
Doubt paypall connected to CERN email account is cool
Cheers!
