Idol 3- Update News - Onetouch Idol 3 General

I e-mailed the company a few days ago inquiring about a 6.0 update
Dear Daniel, Thank you getting in touch with us. Our firmware upgrades on Android platform are performed through the FOTA system and their availability depends on the carrier, model and country. In case there is an upgrade available, you will receive a notification on the notification bar. The other option to check if there is an update available, is following this steps: Settings >> About Phone >> System Update >> check for Updates. (P.S. the official update is around the corner) Best regards, ALCATEL ONETOUCH
The whole P.S. thing is promising but i'm not cashing it as a check yet. If we don't see something official in the next 1-2 months then i doubt we will see it at all, especially with the idol 4 released. But i have hope yet for our idol 3. Get a 6.0 source and see what our devs can do with it.
What do you think?

the update is real bro !

So update will be released,we must wait.... ☺so where will get 6.0 source??

I'll believe it when I'll see it. Anyway they didn't say any fact. 'Around the corner' is the same as 'soon'.

Anyone in Canada got the OTA update (OTA, not the download)?

If you did get it where are you and which gen?
Gave up waiting so downloaded and installed the OTA that is posted here - install went perfectly and everything works.
Nothing yet. Keep getting wifi network failure error as noted on the acertabletforum.com forum. Hoping acer will fix this. I'd like to see the tablet work as intended. If I have to force the updates again like I did for 3.2 ill be pissed .

Yeah, it's tempting but I'll wait for a while. So far 21 views for this thread and no one's said "I got the OTA." It looks like it's not rolling out here yet.
Nada for Alberta...
I've been hitting "System update" every hour on the hour since midday Thursday. Nothing where I am in Alberta. I've seen some conflicting messaging on when Canada will be getting the OTA. The Acer site says 04-27, I've seen elsewhere 05-03.
I'm itching to get on with it. Downloading the posted update.zip on XDA now. Still haven't decided if I am going to use it.
And to keep the focus on the OP, if anyone has received the OTA please share the GEN. I'm assuming it's the same one posted, but ya never know.
Got it on wifes tab yesterday here in BC. GEN_1
Had to get update to Iconia Tab Update tool to see the upgrade.

I've had the same update utility installed for a month. It's brought no joy in Toronto.

Same here in Nova Scotia.
Things have changed
I have recently hit the update tab and I am no longer getting the wifi message... now back to "your up to date" ... with no ICS ... I think it will be here soon... or maybe I am just an optomist
This is very odd since I am in Halifax and got my OTA on the 27th. I had stock 3.2.1 rooted (had to remove root or the install failed).
Before build: Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2
After build: Acer_AV041_A500_1.0333.00_PA_CUS1
When you eventually get the upgrade, you get an offer to "install now" or "install later". Choose the "install later" option or when your root causes the install to fail you will have to re-download the 400mb file again.
BTW, this combination listed above has none of the bugs or issues listed in other OTA release upgrade threads.

Did anyone else see this.... about speeding up the upgrade...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/29/acer-releases-ics-update-app/
My current build: Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1
I am wondering if because your's was 02_COM_GEN_2 that is why you got the update and I haven't? I am also in Nova Scotia.

Well, this evening I pulled the trigger on Update.zip with my stock unrooted rom. It went flawlessly and al my dozens of apps seem to be functional. It's much more zippy and responsive than HC. I'm impressed.
There using 1 server to distribute. So expect throttling for a bit. The US ones are still going strong, know several who are getting the updates fine.
Best they do this to avoid corrupted data in updates. Otherwise more peopel need to distribute the offcial regional builds.
DOn't want a HTC repeat of an issue where phones ended up bricked.
5 days of waiting. . . . . .
I also have a GEN1 A500 from Canada, specifically build Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1 and I got impatient waiting for the OTA update so I installed the Acer_A500_7.014.14_041.203.01_COM_GEN1 update from the bottom of the first post on this page. I had no problems at all completeling the update and everything seems to be working fine with ICS.
The Op is actually linking straight to Acer's official update server with the ICS links in that post. Remember that if you choose to download these official ROM's you'll need to decrypt the downloaded zip file with the tool mentioned at the top of the first post and follow the rest of the instructions in the How to use full/update package in that first post as well.
If you stick it out and wait for the OTA I am curious as to what build you finally end up with. My build after the update above is Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Still nothing here in Toronto wow!!! Acer Fail!!!!

Acer: Please click on the below link to get the serial number.

Acer: ******, this is to inform you that the update for the ICS is available and is being released in batches, we recommend you to keep the automatic update enabled through Apps > Settings > About Tablet > System Update > Check the box for “Automatically check for system updates”. Acer: You will get the update soon.
Me: Ok great, thank you very much!
Acer: We are unable to provide you the estimated time.
Acer: You are welcome.

Email the OSRC for Lollipop Sources for Kernel

Update:
We can't get the kernel source until we officially get Lollipop so I am locking this for now. I'll re-open when they begin to roll out upgrades for our device so that we can request the source then.
If you're not sure why I'm requesting this, these links HERE and HERE should be explanation enough. If you're unsure why this is important I'll explain it below.
Directions to Request Kernel source for N910T:
1.) Go here - OSRC Email Link
2.) Fill in information accurately and ensure that for "Inquiry type" you select "Request for source code"
3.) Model is SM-N910T
3.) Write in the message box something like, "I'm writing you to request the source codes for the SM-N910T Android 5.0.1 Update. Thank you!"
4.) Check the box, "I agree to the use of my personal information" you can read about it by clicking the link
5.) Hit send and do this once per day. I got this information from This Post (Please thank him while you are there)
Reasons to do it: The 5.0.1 Lollipop U.S. build ROM is going to be delivered to us sometime between now and the end of the year. However, taking steps to have access to the kernel source will give developers some insight into what they can build with it, what to expect, and give them a head start on building for our model of the Note 4. So I encourage you to take part in this and send an email once per day so maybe we too can get access to these files like Friedrich got.
And if you need one more reason to do this, here is a benchmark: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59116214&postcount=2668 and this one too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59116766&postcount=2674

It was a bad joke, no one knows when it will release so I just said that to be witty. It is not expected to take until the end of the year for release.

6.0 and emui 4 please

Well I just got my honor 5 and wanted to upgrade the software, emui says it's 3.1 and when I put the check for updates it says there are no available. Nether when I check my lollipop 5.1.1 to got to Marshmallow. No upgrade available.
My cellphone was one of the Prime Day 120 bucks, KIW-L24c56.
Is there something I should do? I know very few of cellphones, but at least my moto g2 asked me itself to upgrade to Marshmallow which I did, apparently this has Marshmallow upgrade also but nowhere to be found.
Than you.
Wait for it its not fully out yet.. it takes some time.

Check out this thread. It gives detailed instructions to download the official update and install it.
im checking the hihonor website and there is no 6.0 upgrade
Is it just me or no one else can see it ?
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
Well... so far no luck upgrading.
I'm new in this subforum (just got my KIW-L24 last night) and have no idea what the "-c56" on your model number is so hopefully I'm not wasting your time, but
I was able to update mine to marshmallow using this update package that was provided in this thread.
Just make a "dload" folder on your internal storage and extract the update file from the zip to it. Then in system update on the phone, hit menu and local update... should walk you through from there.
Hope this helps!
well apparently Huawei pulled out the update because there were some issues with the phones, they are gonna work on it and put the update on L24 with Marshmallow 6 and Emui 4 back when everything is resolved.

Did you hear this from Huawei? I'm thinking the same thing and posted this in another thread, but was wandering if it was officially a problem.
See below:
They have removed marshmallow from the site. It's not official, but I believe they are doing some work to it. It was extremely laggy and had poor battery life and performance compared to lollipop. I reverted back after running it.
You guys would be better off waiting to see what repairs are done to it.
When you click on the support site, look to the right under manuals
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
You will see how to rollback officially from Marshmallow, if there were no problems, I'm pretty sure that would NOT be listed the same day marshmallow was removed from the site

Yea, I wrote to them and they replied me that there were some issues regarding the update. One day there was the update and the other it wasnt, so I asked them and they said their engineers are looking into it and as soon as possible its gonna be back posted on the website.
amazing how these buggy updates make it through testing to get released, beyond belief & biggest drawback with current phones is crappy firmware & apps , programming, testing & design rules needs massive improvement ...
Android itself is big part of problem ...
Funny how CM has a better software compared yo such big brand Honor/Huawei

well I got 6.0.1 and new Emui in my cellphone OTA. Just this morning I got an update and after downloading and installing it was the new version.
Phone seems a bit laggy and not as fast as 5.0, is this normal for 6.0? Or just me?

This is the exact reason why I Do not belive all idiots in this xda forum, all people who write download download now "official offcial "
people just want nougat and some people do not seem to give a flying **** about if its beta software or final software.. they just want it now now now.
THAT is the reason I am STILL using 4.0 cause I am waiting for more trustworthy evidence.

I wonder what you are doing on this forum still being on 4.0. 4.1 is stable AND official for a long time now. I assume you're talking about EMUI because latest official Android is 5.0
This is all about hobby and most people here know that and take (calculated) risks just for fun. I am on Nougat and I am happy with it but I can fully understand when you stick to what you have.
It is indeed silly that naïve people get advice to reset and on 1 of april you should be aware of that but this one was bad taste.

Android 7 Nougat Update Schedule & Release Date: When's Your Phone Getting It?
Huawei Android Nougat Update
Huawei has come in leaps and bounds during the past 18 months. It was also one of the first handset makers to get an Android Marshmallow phone out — the AWESOME Huawei Mate 8 shipped with Android 6 during November, just one month after Google released the software. This puts Huawei in very good stead, as it is confirmed to be updating its Mate line at exactly the same time this year — November. If this happens, an entirely plausible potential, then Huawei would have one of the first, save for Google’s Nexus phones, Android N phone on market.Expect the Huawei P9 and Mate 8 to get the same treatment during December at the earliest. On November 16, leaked details have provided some information of when the Huawei Mate 8 will be updated to Android Nougat. The firm has already launched the Mate 9 with Nougat pre-installed, so in many respects it's a matter of Huawei tweaking things to be backwards compatible with the older model. The update has not been rolled out officially for the Mate 8, but it has been discovered uploaded onto Huawei's servers. XDA Developer forum users have downloaded the files and installed them on their Mate 8 units. As well as all the Nougat features and updates, the new version brings a fresh build of Huawei's Emotion UI straight from the Mate 9 (version 5.0). This includes a new app drawer option and better multi-window functionality for multitasking several apps at once on the handset's big screen. On December 1, Huawei has now revealed the extent of its plans for Android Nougat updates. As previously leaked, the company has now confirme that Android Nougat will arrive bundled with version 5.0 of the EMUI software. A specific date has not been confirmed, but Huawei has said Q1 2017 will see a rollout begin for its range of Android devices. Handsets which will be updated include the Huawei Mate 8 and Huawei P9 in the first wave, subsequently followed by the Huawei P9 Plus, Huawei P9 Lite, Huawei Nova, and Huawei Nova Plus.As well as the onboard Nougat improvements, Huawei is bigging up how much more intuitive and secure EMUI 5.0 is, saying that it "significantly cuts down on the number of steps needed to achieve the desired function.""Furthermore, the user can reach 90% of the core functions in just two to three clicks," it added. One beef we've always had with EMUI is being remedied - the platform never had a traditional app drawer, but with the new update you will optionally be able to switch this otherwise standard Android feature back on. Huzzah.According to details leaked on December 6, the Huawei P9 and Huawei Mate 8 may be updated to Android Nougat as soon as December 7. The info is coming out of Huawei's home nation of China where it is claimed internal documents have been seen. It's alleged that a build number B352 for the Huawei P9 and B552 for the Huawei Mate 8 are expected. However, crucially the documents are talking about the release in the Chinese market, so we don't know if we will see a wider rollout at that time of if other global regions will have to wait - possibly the global rollout may occur in Huawei's previously announced target of Q1 2017.

You see what I am talking about ? people write false miss information all the time
THERE IS NO OFFICIAL 4.1 VERSION! IT HAS BEEN BETA ALL THE TIME!!! What does it matter if it is official or not yes it a official beta!
4.0 is the last official final version, and nougat is a OFFICIAL beta.
Regarding 5.0 we only seen a few people reoproting here they have got OTA updates WHILE not being in the BETA program or have installed any beta version.
If you get 5.0 OTA whrn you are on b192 then you know for sure it is official, but again, huawei have done this before pushing out beta software to a few countries, they did that in poland with mate 7, like 5 months before the final was released, so you have to keep this in mind too, for us non chinese people it is hard to gather the correct information, since we do not use or can even read chinese websites and social media.
We have seen a lot of people getting 5.0 ota when they are on Beta version, you will get beta version with OTA if you are using a beta version currently, or if you have sign up with the hicare app, you get early adopters versions. The confusion is when people say they get OTA but they get it while using beta software and then say it is final version.. then people keep spreading false or non-confirmed information that this is the final version.
I have still seen no offocial from huawei on any of their websites that the 5.0 final has been released.
A beta tester said only 1 week ago the final version is not out yet, cause huaewi did just send out a new beta version to their beta testers, it takes atleast 3-4 weeks after they push put a beta version to finalize and going thru all bug reports.
People are desperate and they are simply to eager to install and go over to nougat that that they do not care or get blind for the actual information, it becomes a snow ball effect, people just keep writing over and over it is official and final etc etc until people believe it is true.
If you ask me, current status with mate 8 android 7.0 is that it is in the last phase beta. According to leaked roadmap Android 7.0 should had been released in January.
People are free to use beta version if they want, I have had good patience and waiting even if my fingers are itching currently because of my frustration I Want to move over to 7.0 the minute the official version is released, not later.
What we need is more chinese people in this forum who are watching all the chinese websites.. it is their everything is happen, it is the FIRST source for huawei phones not xda where huawei is kind of small compared to a lot of other brands.
I got an official. Just flashed it from the xda forum.
If you want to have a nougat - you need to flash it by yourself. If not, wait for OTA and dont ask questions.
simple as that ;]

Because you stated 4.0 I assumed you were talking about EMUI version as I mentioned. There is sometimes a lot of confusion interpreted as false information.
My Mate 8 was delivered with Android 5.0 and using eRecovery it installs 5.0 so I assume it is an official release.
Regarding Chinese sites, I don't understand Chinese but with current possibilities to translate whole pages it is feasible to visit Chinese sites and read latest information. I found my latest version B577 there.

My mate8 is EMUI 4.1 + Android 6.0.
And I think EMUI 4.1 + Android 6.0 is the latest official final version.

Why not update to EMUI 4.1 in the meantime. I was also stuck on b170. I manually updated it to B321 through dload yesterday.
