Anyone in Canada got the OTA update (OTA, not the download)? - Acer Iconia A500

If you did get it where are you and which gen?

Gave up waiting so downloaded and installed the OTA that is posted here - install went perfectly and everything works.

Nothing yet. Keep getting wifi network failure error as noted on the acertabletforum.com forum. Hoping acer will fix this. I'd like to see the tablet work as intended. If I have to force the updates again like I did for 3.2 ill be pissed .

Yeah, it's tempting but I'll wait for a while. So far 21 views for this thread and no one's said "I got the OTA." It looks like it's not rolling out here yet.

Nada for Alberta...
I've been hitting "System update" every hour on the hour since midday Thursday. Nothing where I am in Alberta. I've seen some conflicting messaging on when Canada will be getting the OTA. The Acer site says 04-27, I've seen elsewhere 05-03.
I'm itching to get on with it. Downloading the posted update.zip on XDA now. Still haven't decided if I am going to use it.
And to keep the focus on the OP, if anyone has received the OTA please share the GEN. I'm assuming it's the same one posted, but ya never know.

Got it on wifes tab yesterday here in BC. GEN_1
Had to get update to Iconia Tab Update tool to see the upgrade.

I've had the same update utility installed for a month. It's brought no joy in Toronto.

Same here in Nova Scotia.

Things have changed
I have recently hit the update tab and I am no longer getting the wifi message... now back to "your up to date" ... with no ICS ... I think it will be here soon... or maybe I am just an optomist

This is very odd since I am in Halifax and got my OTA on the 27th. I had stock 3.2.1 rooted (had to remove root or the install failed).
Before build: Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2
After build: Acer_AV041_A500_1.0333.00_PA_CUS1
When you eventually get the upgrade, you get an offer to "install now" or "install later". Choose the "install later" option or when your root causes the install to fail you will have to re-download the 400mb file again.
BTW, this combination listed above has none of the bugs or issues listed in other OTA release upgrade threads.

My current build: Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1
I am wondering if because your's was 02_COM_GEN_2 that is why you got the update and I haven't? I am also in Nova Scotia.

Well, this evening I pulled the trigger on Update.zip with my stock unrooted rom. It went flawlessly and al my dozens of apps seem to be functional. It's much more zippy and responsive than HC. I'm impressed.

There using 1 server to distribute. So expect throttling for a bit. The US ones are still going strong, know several who are getting the updates fine.
Best they do this to avoid corrupted data in updates. Otherwise more peopel need to distribute the offcial regional builds.
DOn't want a HTC repeat of an issue where phones ended up bricked.

5 days of waiting. . . . . .

I also have a GEN1 A500 from Canada, specifically build Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1 and I got impatient waiting for the OTA update so I installed the Acer_A500_7.014.14_041.203.01_COM_GEN1 update from the bottom of the first post on this page. I had no problems at all completeling the update and everything seems to be working fine with ICS.
The Op is actually linking straight to Acer's official update server with the ICS links in that post. Remember that if you choose to download these official ROM's you'll need to decrypt the downloaded zip file with the tool mentioned at the top of the first post and follow the rest of the instructions in the How to use full/update package in that first post as well.
If you stick it out and wait for the OTA I am curious as to what build you finally end up with. My build after the update above is Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1

Still nothing here in Toronto wow!!! Acer Fail!!!!

Acer Chat @ 4:55pm (Atlantic)
Acer: Hi, my name is ****** *********. How may I help you?
Me: Hi, I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and was wondering when the update to Ice Cream Sandwich would be available to me? I'm still unable to download it.
Acer: I understand that you are unable to get the ICS update on your tablet.
Acer: Let me see what best can be done for you.
Me: Thanks!
Acer: You are welcome, ******.
Acer: May I have the serial number?
Me: Where do I find that information?
Acer: Please click on the below link to get the serial number.
Acer: URL
Me: Oh, the SNID. I didn't realize they were the same thing since I included it in the information before I requested the chat. Sorry!
Me: The number is: **********
Acer: Thank you, ******.
Acer: ******, this is to inform you that the update for the ICS is available and is being released in batches, we recommend you to keep the automatic update enabled through Apps > Settings > About Tablet > System Update > Check the box for “Automatically check for system updates”. This will help the tablet detect an update as soon as it’s available for your product. This update will be available for all the A500 tablets.
Me: Thank you! I will keep automatic update on. In the FAQ's, it mentions being rolled out over the period of a week. Should I receive it today at some point in that case?
Acer: You are welcome, ******.
Acer: You will get the update soon.
Me: Ok great, thank you very much!
Acer: We are unable to provide you the estimated time.
Acer: You are welcome.

Electronics aren't really my thing so I'm going to wait for the OTA download. But, I'm in the same position I was before I asked. It'll get here when it gets here, I guess.

OK. Now I understand. He said "hurry up and wait"!

Soon, still no OTA in Toronto.... tried checking for update using my New York vpn with no update again.
I love my A500, I don't know why Acer has to make it so difficult for their customers.......

[Q] System update?

Yesterday I got a popup message stating that there is a system update available. Version 1.126.03. If I remember correct. I clicked the download. Now it wants to be installed. Is this a honeycomb update or a acer?
I am scared. My acer is rooted, could it be harmed?
Anyone else got this? Maybe i have a older iconia a500 than you. I got mine from singapore.

I don't know where to look. It was 20mb big. Is there some search app in market that can search on size?
No update available here in Greece yet.
No update here in Italy... waiting for some news about it...
no update found in netherlands. 'Your device is up to date'
No updates in france
Nothing here in the US unless it happened automatically.
I also got message on screen about new update yesterday when I powered on my tab. I went ahead with the update, but have not noticed any significant differences after the update. My iconia was bought from Taiwan, but now used in Finland. It's not rooted though..
Under settings/About tablet there are now the following versions:
Android version 3.0.1
Kernel version 2.6.36.3
Build number Acer_A500_1.126.03_COM_GEN1
Not sure what those versions were before I applied the update..
If only 20mb, must be some patches.
call acer
if you are not sure call/go to there site and see if they have any updates listed
no update on acer us site.
With Jake's data I can at least confirm that his builds and versions after he applied the update are different from mine.
I got my A500 a couple of days ago here at Best Buy in Boston, MA. I am not getting any notification of any System update, but my data is as follows:
Android Version: 3.0.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b
Build Number: Acer_A500_1.104.02_COM_GEN1
So, Jake's build number after the update is higher at least.

Doc Kinne
Somerville, MA
Nexus 1 running 2.3.3
Iconia A500 running 3.0.1
bought mine in Dallas on Sunday, same version numbers as kinnerc
well.. i desided to install the update that i downloaded. Got a message that its invalid and canceld. Now i cant update anymore. Its up to date it says.
Strange.!!!
Maybe certain geographically located servers released a build too soon? Who knows.

US Update - Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2

So according to the file here - http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...A TAB&Step3=A500&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_7
B. Country: USA
- Supported OS version: Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1
- Upgrade to OS version: Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2
Usa should have "Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2"
However is ANYONE getting that update? I manually ran "Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1" but obviously that does not appear to be the right one for the US model, thats for UK/France/Italy/Spain.
If anyone has Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2 update.zip please post it.
Thats the build number I have. It came OTA back on the 6th, update to 3.1. I think that if you search the forums, the update .zip had been posted, I just can't for the life of me remember where.
got 4.010.08 ota a few days ago, then 4.010.09 two days ago, and now I am on 4.010.10.
same for me!

are we ever getting the update here in the Mid-West?
Well I am really starting to wonder then, I have never gotten ANY update.
I restored back to stock 1.104.02_COM_GEN1 and recovery, no update.
I updated manually with update.zip for 1.141.07_COM_GEN1, and back to stock recovery, no update.
I have tried from different networks and internet connections just in case something was blocked. I am in Florida BTW.
It NEVER sees and update. Any suggestions anyone?
be patient, i believe the US rollout might be slow due to updates???
No i havent gotten mine either.....
Bump.
So no one has received "Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2"?
I've tried going back to stock images:
1.104.02_COM_GEN1 - No updates
1.141.07_COM_GEN1 - No updates
4.010.01_COM_GEN2 - No updates
4.010.04_COM_GEN1 - No updates
So to sum that up, I've never seen an OTA on any build... any thoughts guys?

Just got this Iconia at Costco July 3.
I registered it at startup. Never received an unsolicited OTA update. But used setting/about tablet/System update.
Got the original .08 3.1 about 7/5 or so, never wrote it down
Acer Iconia Bought 7-3-11
Acer_A500_4.010.09_COM_GEN2 on 7-11-11
Acer_A500_4.010.10_COM_GEN2 on 7-13-11
Running 1st OTA leak of 4.010.04_com_gen1 that was rooted and loaded via CWM, and managed to get 4.010.10 via OTA last night while I'm out in Boston. Connection was through hotel's Comcast wifi network if that may help map out the roll-out.
Of course it didn't work as I don't have the stock bootloader and it fails when you try. It's a small update of something like 80mb or so. Obviously from a few posts here, someone's thought that the last .10 number refers to region is not correct and it is the standard version format that we all know. (major.minor.patch) At least for 3.1 at any rate.

.40 is an update for the international Eurasia versions of the tablet. ie: Thailand, Aussie, India, Swiss.
.38 seems to be an update for the European versions of the tablet ie: France, UK, Spain.
To clarify, .22 (Euro - UK, France, Spain, etc.) ROMS should update to .38 and .24 (Eura - Swiss, India, Thailand, Aussie) ROMS should update to .40
I haven't seen a US update yet. I myself got .08. I'm completely stock, not even rooted, never have and mine came on the 6th.
Someone in here reported being updated to .10, that MAY be ours.

Why I can't update from 3.0.1 to 3.2

I purchased my tablet from US and I live in india. Only one time i was able to update when i run it first time, after than never got any message for update of Android Version.
When i go to Settings>About Tablet and click on System Update and check for new version it's gives me message "Your device is up to date" and when i see the version details than these are
Model Number : A500
Android Version : 3.0.1
Kernel Version : 2.6.36-00017-gc98d63f
Build Number : Acer_A500_1.016.01_COM_GEN1
Update is not available for india yet or where i am wrong please help.
Not sure if your locale has anything to do with getting updates. That's typically an issue with 3G providers, but as long as your tablet is an A500 (wifi only version) it should find the OTA updates no problem, that it unless you are running a custom ROM. Either way, you can manually update your tablet. All the information you need is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
If you currently have a custom ROM or rooted your stock ROM, you will lose root by updating to a newer stock ROM, and the only way to recover root is by reverting back to Android 3.0. There are several custom ROM's based on 3.2 which already have root, if you also choose to go that route. If you have no idea what I mean when I mention root, just don't worry about it and carry on with that link I posted
Thanks Bloodflame, Yes i read that it can not be rooted and thank you for the link to get it update manually but i don't understand why i am not able to get updates.
And whether it is good to update with 3.0.2 ? Please suggest.

can't explain why you're unable to OTA update, but the security and performance improvements along with new features (ie, native mouse support) should make a manual 3.2 update worthwhile
Ok Thanks, I will update to 3.2 and let me see what magic it does.

Is anyone else getting a 4.0 OTA notification?

This may be a known issue but my wife's (non-rooted, completely stock) A500 has been getting a 4.0 OTA notification since yesterday. It says it's invalid, after downloading it, so I ASSUME it's not actually for this device but is that the case? If it is for the A500, do I need to do a factory reset to get it to update?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
What version is it running currently? 7.014.02
I have not seen anything since the 7.014.01/02 releases a few days back.
It would be nice to see Acer taking the lead on releases but I will believe it when it happens. The. 02 release did have a new to me update screen when it installed....
Wowsher
I think I know what one of the issues is- This must have been some really old stock (bestbuy.com) because it's running 3.0.1 and the kernal version is 26.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b. Is it possible that it's somehow "skipping" the OTA updates in the correct order (or maybe they aren't available OTA anymore?) and thus giving me the "invalid" message?
yep would not surprise me at all... you should be able to download from a thread in the rom area a thread by vache has links to almost all of them.
You should probably change the thread title if you can.
Wowsher
There have been others with similar issues.Seems like acer did not and is not pushing the updates to some devices.
I would first call acer if you. Not likely to help but would atleast let them know they have issue.
For a right now fix.
Get iconiaroot. Root tablet.
Get acer recovery installer. Install custom recovery.
Look on forums for a stock 3.1 or 3.2 rom.
You can get a ore rooted rom if you wish but would kill all updates in future.
There are lots of information in the dev forums on step by step instructions and downloads.
Be careful fallow instructions.
Good luck.
The 4.0.xxxx update, is an update for UI. It should come in 2 notifications for stock tablets.
The first, is a preparatory update. The second, is the actual update.
Note, if you have a rooted tab, as some people can tell, it is not advisable to take any OTA update from acer.
In the forum, if you want to take the update, there is a thread which has rooted versions of these updates.

Huawei P9 Lite EMUI 5.0 Upgrade Help! - VNS-L31C440B132

Hi all,
I've had my P9 Lite for about 10 months now and I haven't recieved one system update yet. I've been waiting for the OTA system update for EMUI 5.0 but alas, it hasn't come to my phone and I don't understand why. The phone Android security patch level is 1 June 2016 and that is worrying as well! My Build number is VNS-L31C440B132 and I was looking for a way to update to the latest availble version while also keeping my current phones data. The Updater in the settings always says there is no updates available and i've tried using 'Firmware Finder' as well but the updates failed.
I'd appreciate any help with the matter.
Thanks,
Charlie
Hello
Firmware here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/how-to/vns-l31c440b380-t3617778
In 1: maybe you can try the three-button method (dload).
In 2: try to do the update with the pc and HiSuite (update the system).
In 3: you can also test a firmware updater v2 application and hisuite. https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/huawei-p9-p9-plus-firmware-updater-t3435873
In 4: or do the bootloader code request and install recovery twrp for MM and install nougat.
Thanks for the help here, your method worked absolutely fine, I appreciate it. Nice to see a great community here.
Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Barbu,
I found a quick way to do this.
Downloading the updates might take a while so make sure your phone is on charge or charging.
First you want to go to the app store and download Firmware Finder (XDA wont let me post a link because I haven't posted 10 times so you'll have to search.
Then go to Settings > Use proxy for install > Download Addon. An apk will download, install this.
Then go to Firware Finder and click this magnifying glass at the bottom right to refresh. Then look for the update that ends in 'B160' and has 'FullOTA' in the name.
Click on it then > GET AN UPDATE THROUGH PROXY. You will be taken to the Proxy App where you need to follow the instructions on screen.
Then you need to go to your phone settings and click on 'Update'. After it scans and finds a new update you need to click on it and then quick install. While it's installing you might want to go back into your WiFi settings and change proxy to 'None' just in case there is connection issues.
Once that update is installing your going to want to repeat these steps but this time install 'B382 FullOTA'. This should give you EMUI 5.0 with loads of new features now!
It might work by install B382 straight away but it didn't for me.
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Charlie
Hello, thanks for ur help
U said it didn't works for you but it should work for me huh ?
the problem is that mine is neither b160 nor B382 ... it' an b132... so it's not the appropriate file for my headset, no?
Sincerly, i'm a bit worried about this Update it seems like hack or jealbreak ... don't u think

I can assure you this isn't a "hack" or "jailbreak". Firmware Finder was even developed by members of the XDA community and it's 100% legit. I had the same problem as you Barbu, I was on B132 and wanted the new android 7 update but my phone is also on EE and it wasn't rolled out. All I did was what I detailed in the steps in my post and it worked, and B132, B160 and such are just the version number so installing the B160 will just give you a new firmware update.
Thanks,
Charlie

No. You need to wait until the update has installed. This might take a while as it has to download then your phone will restart and the update will install.
Thank u very much my friend i will tell u the news once the installation finished ...
last question: why don't install the b382 directly without installing the b160 ?

Just didn't work when I tried it so I thought it's better to be safe.
First, thanks for info and effort.
I did everything you wrote. But after I change proxy server, as it stands in Firmware Finder Proxy, and tap Update, nothing happens. There is no update. Maybe I didn't change proxy in right way. But, I googled it just in case, changed it again, and again there was no update.
One more thing. In Firmware Finder, there is firmware for VNS-L31C440B132 in the list. So, I did not chose "B160" and "B382" like you said. Then, I did as you instructed, and there was no update.
Any help?
Thanks.

First off, is there any other firmware in the list or just the one ending in B132?
And did you:
Click Get an update through proxy and they get taken to the proxy finder app where it gives you instructions on what to do to your WiFi settings? Because after you have done that go straight to settings > update > then check for a new update. A new update should appear in red.
If this didn't help just give me another shout and I'll try and help more. If not, there is some firmware finder threads on here as it was developed by person/peoples from the XDA community.
Thanks,
Charlie

I did it!
This time I followed your instructions, first B160 then B382 but not via GET AN UPDATE THROUGH PROXY, but GET AN UPDATE THROUGH DNS (BETA). And it all worked for me.
Regarding your instruction, I couldn't get an update for B132, no matter what I tried and how I changed proxy server.
In the list there are 8 firmwares. FullOTA B383/382/380/370/160/132 and OTA B160/132. Then I tried B132 FullOTA through dns (beta), I got an update, everything went well, but when I checked About phone, there was no change, Emui and android version did not change. Then I tried with B132 OTA, but it failed during installation, twice. Finally, I tried B160 FullOTA first, then B382 FullOTA through dns, and now my phone is on Android 7.0 and EMUI 5.0.
Through dns is just 3 taps, then check update and that's all.
Guys, give it a try both ways, hope you will succeed.
Charlie, thank you for information.
Hello Charlie
I followed ur méthod step by step ans it works with me even if it took thé entité day about 10h....
Now i'm runing on nugat 7 thank u very much for ur help ... But I think once Android 8 rolled out WE have to do the same thing, didn't it ?
All in all i'm satisfied ... It was high time ?
Is it still possible to upgrade VNS-L31C440B132 using FF?

Like many other disappointed EE customers who never got a single OTA update for their VNS-L31C440B132 I would like to use this method as it looks pretty straightforward (no unlocking bootloaders/rooting etc) but I may be too late to the party:crying:. Without showing all the details, FF currently lists the following available firmware for my device:
VNS-L31C440B383, VNS-L31C440B382, VNS-L31C440B380, VNS-L31C440B160, VNS-L31C440B160, VNS-L31C440B132, VNS-L31C440B132
The only ones that are approved are both the B132s which are OTAs and there is no longer a B160 that is a full OTA update. They are just (incremental?) OTAs. FullOTAs now start from B380. Perhaps the files I need are no longer available. Is it time to give up, or am I missing something here? Fortunately I now also have a Lenovo P2 with global ROM which DOES get OTA updates!
**Update**. I emailed DEV and they think Huawei may have moved some firmwares but that the missing ones may re-appear in a future scan of their servers, so I will periodically check to see.
Cheers

Last night i managed to update my phone from VNS-L31C440B132 to VNS-L31C440B383 using the method in this thread. I installed the B160 OTA update first through firmware finder via proxy. It listed it as only 740mb (ish) but when i actually installed it through system update it downladed 1.74GB (ish) which installed fine. I then updated to B383 through firmware finder via proxy again which worked fine too. Give it a go it worked for me

Oh great. Thanks. Did you bother with either of the B132s dated 2016.07.14 first (perhaps they are patches for B132) or did you just start with B160? There are 2 B160s dated 2016.10.16 (753MB and 166MB). Did you do a "Check Firmware Access" to see if it was approved? It isn't for me, but perhaps it works anyway. I wonder why the one listed for you was 740MB (perhaps the sizes aren't that accurate)? Are you then saying you missed out B380 and B382 full OTAs and went straight to B383? Sods law is B383 isn't showing up right now, but hopefuly it'll return soon lol

I didnt bother with any B132 updates. I went for the biggest B160 update which probably was 753MB but when i actually went through the update app it downloaded 1.74GB. I didnt check firmware access. After it had updated to B160 i installed B382. I mistyped B383 earlier sorry. I am now running B382 and everything is working great

Thanks for coming back on this. Unfortunately I haven't been able to install B160 yet. After selecting the 753MB B160 OTA I selected "get an update through proxy" and modified the network settings. I returned to the FF app and selected "download". I am presented with the following list of selectable options: 1)update.zip ee/gb/ 2)update_data_full_ee_gb.ziphw/default/ 3)update_data_full_hw/default.zip hw/eu 4)update_data_full_hw_eu.zip hw/normal 5)update_data_full_hw_normal.zip
I selected just option 1 and ok and the download started. I left the network settings as localhost and 8080 until after the download completed. I ended up with a file called update.zip size 1.69GB in folder Local>Internal storage>HWFF>98030> but have no idea what to do next to complete the install. Should an install option have appeared at the end of the download or more options appear in the FF app settings? Huawei Updater ("Check for updates") doesn't see it. I don't have an external SD card but don't see why it would need one. Not sure how to proceed, but at least I haven't broken anything
