Setting Hangouts Dialer as the Default Dialer for OK Google - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the T-Mobile 5GB/100 min. plan. As such, I use the 100 min. for "important" calls, and usually use Hangouts for incoming/outgoing via Google Voice. However, giving an OK Google command that results in dialing always goes to the phone's dialer and dials by my cell plan. How to I make OK Google dial with Hangouts/Google Voice?

Visual voicemail

Does the Samsung galaxy s 2 have visual voicemail?
No, but there are apps that you can download for Visual Voicemail from the Market
I had a look in the market but couldn't find anything.
you will need to switch to a provider that supports VVM, if your cell provider does not. You can try Google Voice.
I have it activated with my cell provider
Google Voice can be set as your voice mail service and it does the same thing. It also transcribes messages from voice to text albeit comically.
Search for Yap in the Market....I can't remember the other app's name right now

Google voice has taken over my Evo

So I installed a google voice application so I can make calls, not receive them, through GV.
After the app's setup, and people call me on my regular cell phone number, the call comes through google voice instead. When I place a call or txt someone, it uses my google voice number.
I uninstalled the app and its still the same issue. How do I stop google voice from taking over my phone? I only want to use google voice when I want to, not automatically.
Login to your Google Voice account and click the gear in the upper-right hand corner then Voice Settings. In your Google Voice numbers, find your mobile number and see if it says "Google Voice Enabled" next to it. If so, then when you were setting up the Google Voice app you enabled Google Voice integration.
^ as above. Go to voice.google.com and log in. Top right - go to Voice Settings. Beside your # deactivate your number and then re-add it with Google Voice LITE. Lite is the key. I can't remember the exact steps though.

Google Voice with the N4 on Tmobile

Is anyone currently routing all of their calls/texts/voicemails through Google voice (GV) on Tmobile?
I currently have Sprint and have integrated my number into GV (my GV number and my original Sprint number are one and the same) and I'll be switching from Sprint to Tmobile once I can get my hands on an N4. My problem is I'm not sure whether to port my number out of GV/Sprint and into Tmobile or if I should just get a brand new Tmobile number, add that to GV, and have GV just route calls/texts placed to my current number to the new Tmobile number. The only issue I'm aware of with GV is the lack of support for MMS.
Also, I sporadically have some issues on Sprint with missing calls where they show up in my GV call log but never make it through to my phone. I really like how GV can be accessed from any browser and how it logs history of my texts and calls so it would be nice to have these features still but maybe not worth the few quirks, bugs, and lack of MMS.
Can anyone comment on using GV with their Tmobile number? Worth it? Not worth it?
Google voice works fine on T-Mobile.

Actually, it depends. If you are using a T-mobile prepaid 4G plan, you can't use call forwarding. This means you can't use GV for your voicemail for your T-mobile number. In that case, if you use the full version of GV (not the limited voicemail service), then you can have voicemail and texting for your GV number. But if someone calls your T-mobile number, your GV voicemail will not be used. So it really depends on how you are trying to use it (and if you are using prepaid or not).
I use it all the time, the above is true. If you get a monthly plan its no issue. Download the app and you can select it to always call from your GV# or prompt you or never. You should have no issues with it on T-mo, the only difference is you will probably have two numbers now, but keep using the GV# like normal after you set up.
So let me get this straight...
Setup:
Google Voice #: 111-111-1111
New T-Mobile #: 222-222-2222
Let's assume I have added my new T-Mobile number to my Google Voice account, and have only shared my Google Voice number with people.
I can setup my phone to dial out using my Google Voice account. I will also need to replace the default text messaging app with Google Voice.
Any outgoing calls/texts from my phone will show up on other people's phones as 111-111-1111
All calls to 111-111-1111 will automatically be routed to 222-222-2222.
Voicemail scenario 1: Post-Paid plan
If someone calls 111-111-1111 and I don't answer my phone, do they get sent to 222-222-2222's voicemail system by default?
If I deactivate voicemail on 222-222-2222, will calls to 111-111-1111 eventually reach the Google Voice voicemail, or does it just ring forever?
Is there an option to automatically forward voicemails to Google Voice (a la Sprint)?
Voicemail scenario 2: Pre-Paid plan
If someone calls 111-111-1111 and I don't answer my phone, do they get sent to 222-222-2222's voicemail system?
What happens if you disable voicemail on 222-222-2222? Rings forever?
I take it from your previous post that this is where you run into issues with the Google Voice Voicemail, correct?
Thanks!

I can only speak for my G2x using a post-paid plan, but I have three fields I can set on my phone under Options -> Call settings -> Call forwarding: Busy, Unanswered, and Unreachable (along with "Always Forward"). Each of those has enable/disable and a separate number. In my case, I'm testing out GrooVe IP, since I have poor signal strength at home, so I have Busy and Unanswered set to my Google Voice voicemail number and Unreachable set to my main Google Voice number (so if I'm at home on wifi with no signal, GrooVe IP will ring me). That all works so my voicemail is via Google Voice and not T-Mobile.
Since you have Sprint/GV integrated, if you want to cancel Sprint service you will have some extra steps. Cancel Sprint integration, port your Sprint# to GV, then forward the GV calls to the new TMo#.
A lot of your questions should be answered here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646755
If you're prepaid like me you can just call them and have them disable your voicemail. Then as long as people only have your GV number you will get all voicemails to GV.
Why not just get a Google voice number and tell everyone you know to use it instead of your carrier number.

Any outgoing calls/texts from my phone will show up on other people's phones as 111-111-1111 Yes; You can setup the phone via GV App to dial out using your GV number. Texts Sent from GV App will use GV number, texts sent from any Android SMS program will use TMo number
All calls to 111-111-1111 will automatically be routed to 222-222-2222. Yes, if you set it up that way in your GV account settings online
Voicemail scenario 1: Post-Paid plan
If someone calls 111-111-1111 and I don't answer my phone, do they get sent to 222-222-2222's voicemail system by default? No, calls to GV will reach GV voicemail
If I deactivate voicemail on 222-222-2222, will calls to 111-111-1111 eventually reach the Google Voice voicemail, or does it just ring forever? Calls to Tmo number will reroute to GV voicemail if you set it up that way through the GV App/Phone App
Is there an option to automatically forward voicemails to Google Voice (a la Sprint)? As far as I know, no. You must change the voicemail number on your phone to redirect to GV voicemail
Voicemail scenario 2: Pre-Paid plan
If someone calls 111-111-1111 and I don't answer my phone, do they get sent to 222-222-2222's voicemail system? No, same as above
What happens if you disable voicemail on 222-222-2222? Rings forever? Yes because you cannot use call forwarding on pre-paid plans, so you cannot redirect to GV
I take it from your previous post that this is where you run into issues with the Google Voice Voicemail, correct?

Can't turn Google voice SMS off

My SMS will not receive messages at all. I use in conjunction with google voice, and then I receive them fine, but if I elect to receive via messaging app, I can send SMS's all the time, but nothing will show as received in the SMS app - they will still appear in my google voice though when I check voice online. I am on latest stock version of rom and still nothing works to receive SMS via messaging app. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it? I tried other SMS apps from the market but they do not receive messages either.
I have tried the short codes to turn Google voice on (*71) but the short code to turn Voice off (*73) doesn't work - just get a prompt stating this short code is not valid. Any help?

*28areacodephonenumber is the Sprint code for conditional call forwarding. *38 is the Sprint code to disconnect conditional call forwarding from Google voice. There is a setting in Google voice to have Google voice texts go to Google voice app or stock texting app. You must sign out of Google voice if you want your phone to go back to normal and/or dial *38 to disengage Google voice for voicemail. If you don't, you won't get your messages and voicemail normally. It's this what you're asking?
I go into Google Voice app and select the option to only receive SMS via the stock messaging app. It saves the option, but then I do not receive any SMS on the stock app - but if I log into my google voice account the messages do arrive there. I've deactivated Google Voice completely, I've uninstalled the app, I've done everything - still can't receive messages on my stock app. I'd read before that there's a short code (*71 and *73) to manually turn on/off Voice, but only the *71 talk works, *73 is disconnected. Need some help!
Those codes don't work for Google voice. The codes you're interested in are *28yourareacodeandphonenumber to activate conditional call forwarding our *38 to deactivate. As far as I know, no other codes, even land line call forwarding codes, work. Have you tried updating your prl and profile? Try sending yourself a text from the stock app to your Sprint number. If you're not receiving it then perhaps you need to call customer service to get the issue straightened out. I suggest the updating first then reboot and see what happens. I set my phone up so that my Sprint number isn't integrated into Google voice. I want to see which number someone is coming in from. I don't know anything about integration, so u couldn't help you there. There might be a setting in the stock app that it's turned off by mistake that is keeping the stock app from working as it should be.
Edit: Maybe customer service needs to reprovision your account. It's basically resetting the account settings to their proper place in case something got fudged up.

Fix Google Voice forwarding after Advanced Calling Features update

I set up Google Voice to handle my voice mail years ago, and haven't had to set it up again despite moving to several different phones since. Until, that is, I enabled the Advanced Voice features. That's because this seems to set up a new voice mail box for you with Verizon, and sets your line to forward to that. So, as a reminder for how to forward these calls, here's what you want to do:
*71[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer calls to your Google Voice number when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6 rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.
To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]

Or you could just clear data on Google Voice and then set it up again... Works like a charm.

That didn't work for me. I had to uninstall the app, log into my Voice account on the website, remove my number, then install the app on my phone and go through the configuration including dialing the *71 option before my phone finally mapped unanswered calls back to Google Voice.

I have to give you credit! I thought that my Google Voice was working, but alas it is not... So I followed your lead and removed my number from the web interface, re-added it, and followed the instructions. Works now. Thanks!

Awesome, glad that helped. It was driving me nuts for a week until I saw someone else mention removing the number from the account, never even dawned on me that you could do that or that it would have an effect on the phone's configuration.
Big time thank you for this post. I've had issues with Voice not working for months. Removing, re-adding then confirming my number finally fixed the issue.

I didn't even know my google voicemail conditional forwarding stop working with verizon. I kept getting these weird texts from verion "VZWVVM:SYNC:EV=blahblah". It turns out, I turned on advanced calling on Verizon's account page. To get google voice working I just turned off the advanced calling. I have a nexus 6, so I can't even use advanced calling and nobody in my contact list has advanced calling.
I tried reactivating verizons conditional call forwarding to use google voice. But with advanced calling enabled I couldnt get google voice to work for my voicemails. That is why I just disabled advanced calling on verizon's site in my account.

Same here.
I got a replacement phone that didn't have the update, so I had to go through this all again after the update installed on that one.
thanks for the info here. i had the same issue with my new S6. One question though...after "the fix" are you leaving Advanced calling turned off? or turning it back on?
thanks!!

Still didn't work for me. I followed the instructions exactly as above, and Voice still won't pick up on missed calls, only calls I dismiss. I re-did all three * forwarding codes outlined in the OP, but no luck on missed calls. I have to turn off the advanced calling if I want Voice to pick up missed calls at all. So frustrating.

I just tested this and I am experiencing the same issue. everything works perfect except for MISSED calls.
I think I may just have to live with it for now in the hopes that it gets resolved since I have 90% of my contacts calling my google voice number.
Not working for me
I"ve tried all of the suggestions here, but I still cannot get my Nexus 6 to route calls made to my carrier number to my GV number. I've had GV for years on several different devices and it's always worked fine. Everything is set up correctly. Any additional suggestions?
Thank you

You have no idea how happy I was to find your post! Thanks, it also worked for me after racking my brain all day and getting very frustrated. I did find a post to activate Volte without subscribing to Advanced Calling. I was unable to post the link here. Just Google Volte. Thanks again, pleased.

After deleting number in voice and reinstalling app on phone, go to voicemail settings on a PC and click activate voicemail, dial the number displayed in the popup.
I FINALLY HAVE MY Google voicemail back !!
I lost it after setting up enhanced/advanced Verizon calling to do both voice calls and data at the same time. That fixed the no data during phone calls issue, but I lost my Google voicemail. The Verizon mail was not as good as voice. I would rather pay for Google Voice and not Verizon voicemail, but google voice is still free so YAY! Thanks for the fix. I have my Google Voicemail back!
