s4 problems

i am thinking about upgrading my note 1 to the galaxy s4 i9502 to be exact and need to know what are the issues with it i have heard about.
1. the octa-core switching problem
2. heating up to a 50c while broswing or hardcore gaming
3. screen bluring and refres rate
i need to know if there other problems and if they are sofware or hardware problems and if you think the note 3 screen will be flexiblle in a way that is easy to hold

[Q] Note 2 Custom ROM vs Note 3 rooted

Does anyone have experience running Note 2 Custom ROMS and can provide comparisons to running Note 3 rooted after pruning all the bloat?
Trying to decide between the two and was looking for some straight comparisons, such as snappiness, visual quality in graphical programs/games, and possibly s-pen recognition/accuracy.
One particular thing I'm interested to know is how hooking up to a smart dock compares between the two, what resolutions they output and any interesting performance comparisons with that specifically.
I asked some similar questions at this post, but this is much less AT&T specific.

i say its best you try out both and decide which one u prefer.
when i got my first fone(the glorious htc HD2) i played around with their original/modded roms vs cm/aosp and i found i prefer CM6(latest back then) because of its ease of use and minimalistic looks.
it took a bit of getting use to but once i did,i found i love CM more as the days went by.
I have the note 2 and note 3 and had them since their early launch.used both TW and CM.i still prefer the simplistic nature of CM.and TW cannot even come close to it.
Plus, with a customised rom,u get rid of all that samsung bloatware and free your ram & memory so the phone can perform better and have more space to store things.
that being said, there are pros and cons between the 2,the best is you give each one a go.
My opinion, even though i have the note 3 now,i still use my note 2 with CM 10.1.3 because its rock stable and minimalistic.if i cannot put cm in my note 3,i'd probably sell it off since its practically worthless with all its hardware glory but useless TW rom.
Thanks for the response. So even though the note 3 is supposed to be blazing fast at everything compared to the note 2 in terms of specs, you find yourself using the note 2 more often because of the custom ROM making it that much more easy to use, familiar, snappy etc.? The more you can elaborate on a comparison the better, especially with custom ROM + note2 vs note3.
I'm really looking for like you responded, tons of opinions on performance considerations between the two. I've tried tons of custom ROMs on the android phones i've used in the past, and I'm hesitant to try one on the note 2 that I got at best buy recently because I'm seriously considering just getting a note 3 for the performance alone and being done with it. I really like the size of the notes and the s-pen functionality in particular so all it comes down to at this point is whether giving up custom ROMs for the note3 is worth it.

i use note 2 more becoz i like CM and not TW.Stock TW runs alot of useless apps on the background.eating up my ram,cpu and battery.not only does that affect performance(battery life, snappiness etc),its irritates the hell out of me when i see apps i dun use running in the background.and the interface on TW is pretty bloated,i usually change CM launcher to Nemus launcher for minimalistic look and performance...again customisability.
if you want a detailed comparison,i can't give you. but what i can let you know is the following:
-note 3 specs are better note 2 obviously.
-note 3 on TW performs abt the same as note 2 on CM.its snappy,no lag issues.spen fuctionality is limited on CM and full on TW(for obvious reason).so imagine if you put CM on note 3,it will be the ****z.
-note 3's battery life is on par with note 2 on CM.this is due mainly with kernel and rom issues since CM in minimalistic and running minimal apps in the background as compared to stock, unmodded TW on note 3.put CM or a modded TW in,note 3 will beat note 2 hands down.
-note 2 does not have knox, while note 3 has, that is a major crap every note 3 users are facing.this means, flashing customised rom or recovery will trip knox counter and will limit your note 3 to pretty much paper weight.
-note 3 uses usb 3,that means faster charging and data transfer rate and its backward compatible with usb 2.a major improvement in my opinion and its not using some proprietary cables like crapple.
in all,i find the improvements on note 3 and note 2 are about 30-35%. except for a higher resolution,a slighty faster 4 core cpu,a slight better gpu, abt 1 gb more ram, and a bigger battery/screen.
compared that with a note to a note 2,the improvements are like almost 60% imo.
but its best to get new phones than old imo.coz when every one starts moving to newer model of phone, development for old ones will start to die.unless its the HD2..where it never dies.....lol.

[Q] Samsung Rom differences between devices

Hi
I am considering buying a new phone - Note4 (I have Note2 right now) and I went to a shop with most modern phones to compare. I was focusing mainly on Samsung's phones and I noticed there are huge differences between ROMs even when the android version is the same.
Galaxy Alpha's ROM has a different theme and in general the phone works definitely faster than Note 4 or Galaxy S4 or Galaxy S5. I noticed f.e. that finally there is no delay when switching between the phone tab and the contact tab (previously looked like separate apps on Samsung's ROMs). It was not the case in the Note4! Alpha has android 4.4.4 ROM and so the Galaxy S4/Note4 which is slower than the Alpha. Galaxy S5 UI is faster than Note4's but it has 4.4.2 preinstalled. I tried two different Note4 phones and the same results. I don't even mention the design because Note4's touchwiz looks almost the same as the one delivered for Note2 with the latest update. Alpha's ROM looks much better.
Do you know what may be a reason?
Maybe thay platformed their products to some lines: Note, S ...
With a ton of Spem features they would not want rebuild bases on latest UI like Alpha. I think they based on Note series to dev more features, tweak more to match demand, business plan or something else...
My wife is using Note 2 and I can say that you will enjoy Note 4 which has many things upgraded from Note 2. A big step.
We will have another big step by next Lollipop update
Yes that's correct that there are improvements comparing the original Note2's ROM version to Note4. The problem is that I am completely not satisfied with the Note2. It's so slow it is generally not usable without flashing with the cyanogenmod or something else. I want to buy a device I can use without rooting it at the first day and loosing a warranty. I was quite happy with the speed of the Alpha but completely not happy with what I saw in the Note 4. The problem is that it seems that the Alpha is the only Samsung's device right now which works without any jitters but it has so weak battery it won't last a full day when using more intensively. Maybe as I work in the IT I am less patient with the hardware but I could imagine the original Note4 hardware with a stock ROM would be probably much better.

Jumping from the S5 over to the Note 4 worth it ?

like the title says, i am currently owning the Galaxy S5 , my question is ,
is the Note 4 worth getting when i have a s5 ? i would like to experience the Note phone as i never had one before and i like the spen thingie looks cool.
did anyone here had a s5 and jumped to the Note 4 ?
i dont really want to get the S6 nor the Note 5 mainly due to no Removable back for battery swapping and the use of msd.
yesterday i had sell my s5 for a note 4! it is really better for performance battery camera everything! for me is it a good option!!!

awesome thanks, but how much extra did you pay on top of it ? i think if i sell my s5 in the city here i would barely get 200$ for trade in and would need to pay about 250$ for getting the note 4.
my biggest question is the screen bro,
how is the screen in your eyes??? i saw the note 4 screen from a friend and i didnt like it like MY eyes hurt from looking at it , as it is a QHD display will you get used to it ?? its sooo sharp ,
thanks for the feedback
I sold together with the gear neo 2 so I did not pay anything. an affair!
the screen is much larger of s5, MUCH! and everything is very clear ..sharp! the best display for me. the brightness is very high, to not have problems I keep it to less than half !! if you can buy it!
the memory is 32 gb ..i have 32 micro sd therefore at the top with removably battery!

nice , i am thinking of getting the 910F variant so i can have CM installed on it
thanks for the feedback, so in your opinion it is defintely worth it and it is much better than the s5 in everything ?:fingers-crossed:
I've had s5 for a year and I think it is much better. pictures at night for example are really the best.It is reactive with the TouchWiz !!! good buy!
ps i have 910F european version!
I didn't have an S5 but I did upgrade from a Note 3 to the Note 4.
In my opinion the Note 4 is a fantastic phone- the camera is superb and the screen is face-meltingly awesome.
However, just it can be laggy at times- I'm pretty sure it's a common issue amongst Note 4 users (I have lag and I'm running SimplRom- which in my experience gives the smallest amount of lag in comparison to other custom ROMs I've tried).
The battery life is pretty good too.
Personally I'd make the upgrade but just be warned- there is a fair amount of lag.
Perhaps have a look at review videos etc on YouTube? There's bound to be a comparison video somewhere.
Good luck!

yep i do look at many videos thanks for the feedback !
and i think you should try CyanogenMod if you own a QualComm Note, the n910f < CM will give you zero lags bro , TW lag is in every Samsung phone XD

Hmm, difference in performance from your S5 to a SD Note 4 will be very minor. Specially because the display has a higher resolution.
Quite frankly, official 5.1.1 by Sammy is looking glorious. Phone is so ridiculously fast that I find myself playing of opening and closing apps.
I used CM variants at my S3 for 2~3 years straight, but apart from the cleaner look I honestly don't miss anything about it.
If you're dead set on using CM then the 910F is going to achieve daily driver level much sooner, but the 910C is a better device.

i see.. well i like CM alot, i had the Exynos S5 900h and i swapped it with a QualComm 900f, i really dont want to do that again, since the 910c is a Exynos based model, i think there isnt much of a difference personally.. cause i know this from owning the exynos/qualcomm based s5's.
how much do you like the Note 4 ? is it a very fun phone , like more fun than the smaller displays e.g s3/s4/s5 etc. the ones ranging from 4.7'' - 5'' etc. ?
oh and one more thing, how long will it take me to get used to the sharpness of the n4 screen ? the qhd is the thing that hurts my eyes, when i looked at the one from my relative his n4 hurt my eyes, it is non fake , he has the 910h < exynos one.
will my eyes adapt to the huge sharp screen in a matter of days ?

Buy a Note 3 right now

Hy guys, I have an iPhone 5S and I want to return to Android. I can trade my 5S with an Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3. I know hardware of both devices, but which is the best for performance, gaming, battery life? I want to mod the phone when i pick up it, so I want to install on S5 or Note 3 a rom that can port UI and apps of S7/Note4-5 on the device. So, help me.
Galaxy S5 pro: better display, better camera, IP67 certificate, fingerprint, S-health with cardio, Snapdragon 801 > Snapdragon 800
Galaxy Note 3: S-Pen, display 5.7inch (I love big display), better sound, better multitasking (3GB ram), and A LOT OF ROM, there are very fantastic porting of galaxy s7, note 5 and more..
So, Galaxy S5 or Note 3?
You asked in note3 forum. So we will say note 3.
If you ask in S5 forum they will say S5.
If you plan to use the phone in water, take S5.
Else with bigger screen, ram, internal storage(32gb) note 3 is much better.
S5 is a mistake from samsung. When it was launched, it cost the same as note 3 eventhough note 3 was launched 6 months earlier. Why on earth people want to buy 5.1 inch screen, 2gb ram and 16gb rom when they can have better phone with the same price. I don't know anyone using S5. But i have many friends bought a note 3 even after S5 was launched. That's my personal opinion.

S5+N3 = 8 divide by two = Note 4 .

Add few more bucks and buy a note 4, you will have the features of both s5 and note 3.
There is a certain lag when you open some apps.
I don't game much but I can tell when it lags. Not like windows 2000 lag.
But if you like to draw and stuff, this device is still good.
The lag is mainly because nowadays an app that used be around 5 to 10 MB is now 30 - 70 MB.
Their app is getting obese. Cheers. Hope it helps.

I have both phones, S5 Snapdragon 801 and the Note 3 Exynos
I have to say if only I have the Snapdragon Note 3 ver, I won't be thinking of getting the S5 (smaller screen, smaller ram)
since note 3 SD capabilities was on par (or so I thought) with the S5 SD in terms of everything but camera (the S5 has a really nice camera and has a good low light capabilites)
If you like bigger screen with bigger ram, and using the SPen, go for Note 3, its performance was not so different than the S5
But S5 has a nice features that Note 3 doesn't, weird Fingerscanner, IP67, Heartrate sensor, and a better 16mp camera.

I don't understand the word POCO
But the lag is not that major.
The hardware is getting dated on Note3 by today's standards but as long as someone in the XDA community is supporting this device you can buy it.
There will always be some new roms
The lag is not that imposing at this time.
I would never exchange my Note 3 to a S5.
But I have one tip. Choose the black color for both. It's more beautiful.
I bought a Note 3 black 32gb N9005 (hlte). It's fantastic!

DarkLord Note 5 RC 2.1
I used it for a long time. It missed a few to be perfect. But @dakera13 just stop its development. Just use it with CiVZ kernel (I liked the version 1.0.8) or some Idle kernel in order to have a best performance for playing games. I do like darkera's work because he keep the ROM simple and near to an original Samsung ROM.
DarkLord S7 Edge Ported
Beside AryaMod S7 Edge Ported, that should be the future because is assigned by @darkera13 and also because it is a Marshmallow ROM based. I just don't installed this ROM because the current version needs to flash some correction files and I just had some laziness of to do it.
AryaMod v8.3
It should be the second ROM that I used more. This ROM should have the best battery life. A think everything should works well in this ROM. But unfortunately this ROM is based on Lollipop of the Note 3 and it don't have some Samsung modern things like Theme Store etc.
AryaMod S7 Edge Ported
My current ROM. This ROM is assigned by @Kamy, so I'm also thrusting in its work. The current version is stable and beautiful, with some mods, but not too much, and this is good.
Phronesis
I think its developers was ones of the first that continues the work in DarkLord Note 5 RC 2.1 when @darkera13 stopped it, and they also kept that work correcting some issues and including good things like Scroll Capture etc. But they added some custom things like an own "official" wallpaper with its own name. And they added to much possible mods that I honestly don't need and they did more another things like include S7 wallpapers instead of Note 5 wallpapers in a Note 5 ROM based. Well, for me they went away from a Samsung stock ROM, and I personally don't like it too much. But it is a functional ROM with some improvements, maybe the most developed Lollipop Note 5 ROM based, and if you don't care about those "buts" and maybe if you like that, the ROM would be good for you.

You just will need some third camera app like Open Camera or Camera ZOOM FX because the stock camera included doesn't work fully due to the hardware limitation. But to take photos in front and rear cameras and to record videos in rear camera is ok.
If you run it on AOSP it's pretty slick. I downgraded from an Exynos Note 4 to a Note 3, and in everyday use with AOSP I don't feel like I'm worse of in terms of performance.
