s4 problems - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am thinking about upgrading my note 1 to the galaxy s4 i9502 to be exact and need to know what are the issues with it i have heard about.
1. the octa-core switching problem
2. heating up to a 50c while broswing or hardcore gaming
3. screen bluring and refres rate
i need to know if there other problems and if they are sofware or hardware problems and if you think the note 3 screen will be flexiblle in a way that is easy to hold

Anyone who used to own a note 2 ? How does the s4 compare minus the new features. Were talking about speed, app switching , wifi , browser etc. i used to have a note 2 and it was an absolute beast best phone I've ever had

i have Note 2 right now and i am gonna sell it tomorrow to get S4. i went to store this week to test S4 before purchase. S4 was faster than Note 2. you will not note it that much but i have my own kinda "steps" to compare the smartphones.
the only issue i have and i fear is the over heating issue of S4. i guess it will be gone because even my S3 used to get very hot in the beginning when i purchased it last year but later updates resolved the issue.
so im hoping S4 would also get an update for the over heating issue.
other than that, S4 has almost 80% better screen than Note 2! and im a movie buff and heavy internet user so i love the screen of S4. camera performance is also great. i will recommend u to get S4
choice is your though

How do you measure that "80% better screen" part exactly? For me, at least on such smaller screens, 1080p is a bit pointless. The high ppi is great though as it's pentile and I could clearly see the graininess on S3, which I can't on S4. While watching movies, I personally can't notice any difference between N2 and S4 - and N2 has more screen real estate, ergo I prefer it for watching movies than S4. And personally, I prefer rgb over pentile (personal preference though).
However where you would notice a difference is while browsing - the screen is marginally sharper than N2. Again that's my experience from using S4 briefly although I don't plan to own one.
As for speed, both phones are fast when it comes to the UI, but without doubt S4 will handle resource intensive tasks better. But Note 2 has handled anything I've thrown at it well without any issues so far anyways. Hell, even S2 handles most apps fine even now, so that shouldn't be a problem with either of these devices.
As far as perfornence concerned...after all note 2 is better
S4's octa cores are better only for bencmark & gimmic...whereas note is real performer...no heat issue, more ram available , heating & more battery friendly....everybody knows these are key features to be better performmer
Bigger screen
Wel costomized firmware
Better battery
No such heatin problem
More free ram
Now much cheaper than s4
Great dev support in XDA
(u can use all kind of roms, apps tweaks & mods...even many s4 features )
S pen creativity
And dont forget...Fm app
I think untill note 3 or s5, note 2 is best deal
.............
Lets see s4 features
Screen smearing
Battery draining
Heating
Jerks in TW
More bloatwares ...almost half of 16 gb
More to come

Note 2 seems faster, perhaps due to the chipset having half the pixels to push data to.
I agree that with a display this size, 1080 seems overkill if compromising performance. That said, I may just be rationalzing since Verizon might only be offering the 16gb model and I will not trade my 32gb S3 for that.

u asked me to explain and wrote all that long comment or urs... lols
any ways... 80% better screen means i can see more pixels on note 2 screen than i could on my S3. note 2 screen is better for watching videos and thats it. anything higher than 720p was sharper but below that i can see pixels. there is also black clipping on some of the note 2 devices as reported by some of users. but s4 just does not have that. dont know how u can say s4 screen is just a tad sharper than note 2 screen i found it to be a lot sharper than note 2 screen! and just cause of the sheer size of the screen and so widely spread pixels cause of the lower resolution, the note 2 really got hot after using especially when more whites are displayed on the screen. it used to lag a lot when going from app drawer to the widget section and the lag is considerably lowered now in s4.
so over all s4 is better than note 2 in almost every way and oh the s pen, dont talk about that! cause until dont have real good use scenario for it or u have lots of free time and u have really good drawing and hand writing its useless and i really didnt use it that much after my first 10 days with note 2!

You can see pixels on Note 2? You must have super vision or something. I do see grainyness on S3 if I look hard, but Note II? Really? Especially since the Note II has larger pixels. Probably placebo effect IMO.
I never had black clipping (and from what I hear from Erica, Note II is better than S4 in this regard, not the other way - either way it's fixable), and I've browsed a lot on Note II with full brightness on (websites typically have white background) and there were no throttling issues or overheating, unlike reported by some S4 users (which should hopefully be fixable) for me. And that's even without the power saving blue tint (It has some sort of greenish tint, which I got rid with Perseus). And what makes you think that lower pixel density is what causes overheating anyways?
And the lag is entirely touchwiz, not hardware (unless you're somehow suggesting a quad core device with 2gb RAM would lag in widget drawer) - though for me lag was not that apparent (solved entirely with Nova+custom ROM) - many people with S4 has that too, but apparently fixed with firmware upgrade.
Anywho, whatever suits you mate S4 is a great phone nevertheless.

Bought Asphalt 8 - Heavy Lag on GS4-i9500

Just bought Asphalt 8, honestly expected it to run flawlessly on my Black GS4-i9500 but that was not the case. Installation was fine, but game is really laggy and the graphic is kind of messed up and unstable. It's like the graphic card is not powerful enough to run it at full speed. I'm playing on default settings and I made sure there is no application running besides Airborne. My phone is a genuine one and have not rooted it. It's the same for Minion Rush and Asphalt 7.
What might be causing this problem according to you guys and is there any way to fix this?
Many thanks.

[Q] Need Help: Galaxy Note 3 better?

I am trying to decide which phone to buy, the Galaxy S5, or the Galaxy Note 3. So if you kindly give me some advice based on my argument I will much appreciate it.
Why I don't want to buy the S5 although it has:
1. Superior camera auto-focus and clearer images (as far as online reviews go)
2. Superior battery life by about 1 and a half hours phonearena.com (http://www.phonearena.com/phones/benchmarks)
3. Better portability, dust proof, and water proof (but I wouldn't take shower with it personally).
4. Superior processing power.
The reason is this:
1. Galaxy Note 3 has 32GB internal storage. How does this translateto me? Longer 4K video recording capability. And it also translates to better compatibility with KitKat as a I heard that there will be restrictions for Google Apps to store on SD card. So the external SD card is going to be useful to store movies and music, and that's all.
2. Larger screen & pen may mean that the internet browsing experience is going to be more enjoyable as the pen can act like a mouse when it hovers over non-mobile friendly websites.
3. The pixel density (resolution vs. screen size) is not much higher from the S5 but strangely the Note 3 screen seems to have a warmer display in comparison to S5 which is slightly more bluish. As I intend to buy the Note 3 to read books and web surfing it seems to be a better choice for that.
4. The galaxy Note 3 is around 70USD cheaper from where I buy it, so why do I need to pay money for less RAM and a heart sensor? The processor clock rate difference is it that worthy?
At the same time, why I am afraid to buy the Galaxy Note 3?
1. A friend of mine told me that the device freezes from time to time and he has to restart, this has happened after the KitKat update.
2. A user review was complaining that the battery drained faster after the latest update to KitKat on his Note 3.
Consider the huge delays of Samsung to fix updates on their devices, it is a concern to me whether I should get the Note 3 and wait for updates from Samsung, or buy the latest S5 which will probably receive faster updates (if indeed it's needed since it's already 4.4 KitKat).
I am usually not with the philosophy to buy old phones, but in this case, Samsung is trying to sell me a slightly superior device with less functionality, and the price vs value ratio is clearly going to the Note 3.
At the end of the day I am so confused, and I need your input!
Note 4 should be announced in September, I'd wait until then to decide.
If you can't wait, others can provide better insight.
please questions goes to Q&A forum , avoid asking questions at the general forum and read the xda rules

If you really want to put price to performance ratio just get the Note 3. They are basically the same device but the Note 3 has some cool S Pen features and minus a few newer features the S5 has like the ones you stated.
The Note devices are without a doubt the true Samsung flagships if you appreciate its size off course.
After selling my note 3 and getting this I can honestly say that if someone was to offer one to me today I would trade back in an instant
The camera on the S5 is better sure but the one in the Note 3 is probably only 2nd to the S5 and not by much
I had far better battery life then I do on this S5 (both SD models, stock rom)
Yeah but S5 still isn't a small phone either and .... meh
By 200mhz on cpu, only a benchmark will see that difference (SD models)
I wish they'd stop with 16GB models epecially when half is taken by os, skin and bloatware. yep that is an issue
Oh yes far better for viewing web content ... I never used pen but its there
Pixel density of over 350 and you're golden IMO anything else is kind of going overkill unless you want to zoom for closer detail
Good question. why pay for less screen and ram and get features you don't need like the sensor and ip57 ... if you can get N3 cheaper then I say take it
The S5 isn't perfect either I have had to take my battery out or restart it on occasions aswell
I would agree that you are getting far better value if you buy a note 3 over a S5. fact is the note has a bigger screen, more ram, more onboard storage and is only 200Mhz slower on the cpu
Go with the Note. I've had mine since it came out and I've never had a freezing issue. It sounds like you would like to have the Note 3 as well, so why not get one? It's a fine piece of hardware.

[Q] Upgrade

Hey guys, I'm finally thinking about upgrading from my Galaxy nexus to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I'm not seeing that much of a difference between the note 3 and 4 other than obvious hardware upgrades. I use my phone mainly for games and will likely be using it for alot of record keeping for work and blue tooth features. Is Bluetooth good on the note 3?
Very good my friend saying that, if I didn't have my Note 3, I'd most certainly have the LG G3

when u say gaming heads will turn to nvidia shield tablet But about bluetooth, yes i didn't have any issue with bluetooth on my N3
+
for gaming maybe u like to know Samsung Gear VR that pair with Note4 is awesome gaming accessory
:good:
Or the Nvidia shield as mentioned above but most, if not all of the android Samsung, Sony, LG etc phones that have come out within the last year have the adreno 330 GPU so the graphics is only going to appear different on a higher resolution display

[Q] Note 4 observations

Hi everyone, I came from Note 3 to Note 4 (910h exynos) which seems a mild update with a much better build quality I also liked the new feel of touch wiz i think it is a clear upgrade from note 3 although it took me a while to get used to; however, I have noticed the following "first impressions" & would like to hear you feedback:
1- Stock web browser is slower than note 3 there is a lag when loading pages ! is there a way to speed it up
2- Antutu bench mark was relatively low (35536) at first however, after reboot the 2nd score was 49867 isn't this a big variance? what is the average score for note 4?
Finally, my phone did not come with LTE only 3g & this is what bugged me the most (LTE service will start by end of the year) I thought LTE was standard option for both exynos & SD with different frequencies.
Thanks,
