Unlocking Moto X Play - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's the fastest/easiest way to unlock the play? Looking to get a telus play and use it on Rogers.

I went to eBay Canada and found a service in the UK and paid $4.95 CAD, had the code in less than 24hrs. Put my FIDO SIM card in and haven't looked back. You can pm me if you want to know the exact name of who I used. p.s. Mine was from Telus

Excellent! You think it's worth the $480 after taxes still?

No regrets.

For a bit more, you can get moto x style or preorder the nexus 5x. And the nexus 6 from last available too

There's no convincing you huh, only trying to help. Honestly I have been using a nexus 5 since October '13 and upgraded to the mxp last month. I don't see much difference at all. In fact, my nexus 5 was more buttery smooth. Had I just purchased a battery case to extend the battery life, I would go back to my nexus 5 in a heartbeat. I'm stuck with this mxp now since I'm passed the refund period. I'd suggest the previously mentioned devices if you're on the fence. Good luck

Right now I have an HTC one M7, I'm just dipping around in other phones til I get the moto x play. I went from my N5, to BlackBerry Z30, to LG G3, now the M7. Every once in a while I'll go phone crazy and test out everything

I think you'll be really happy with the Moto X Play, yes it doesn't have the latest greatest Snapdragon but there are so many pluses to this phone. I have been very happy with mine, I don't have any of the issues like lag, stutter, etc. Not really sure why some people have had them but I would say they are in the minority.
The pluses are:
Great screen - better brightness than iPhone 6 so outside visibility is wonderful.
Overall the screen looks pretty good - good colour accuracy & viewing angles.
Much improved camera, it can now hold its own with the competition.
As compared to previous Motorola phones.
Great battery - class leading IMO.
Fairly good build quality - only small niggle is power & volume keys could be slightly better (my phone doesn't seem bad).
micro SD card slot - FTW.
Changeable back - different colours are available.
Fairly clean Lollipop - not a lot of extra bloatware, and what's there works well as reported by Motorola users.

Since it's only $199...

Right now I have the S2, and I've been debating on getting the Moto X for the past month but with the N4 dropping down to only $199, I'm confused. On paper both very similar and I don't care about wifi calling, I don't need it. I could wait for the Nexus 5, whenever that drops, but I'm not down to spend $500-600 on a phone right now.
So, the Nexus 4 and the Moto X are very similar, so I should go with the Nexus 4, right?
Yes I would personally go with the N4 if I had to make the choice.
And thats because these factors.
1.N4 has a huge community
2.It's cheapers than the Moto X

Exactly, and cheap enough to have a great back up device if the N5 is so out of this world that I have to buy it. Besides, I won't ever buy from Tmobile ever since their stupid monthly installment plan came into play.

I actually owned one for like 2 weeks about 6 months ago but ended up returning it. Not because I didn't like it, but because I was dead set on getting the HTC One and couldn't see myself keeping this $350 phone AND buying another later down the line. But yea, gonna get the bumper with it since its a slippery bastard.

For me, N4 is still the obvious winner compared to any phone out there. $249 for an unsubsidized/unlocked phone is a steal. Even if the next Nexus comes out in two weeks, I still won't mind having spent $249 yesterday for the N4.
I was lucky; I FUBAR'd my original N4 just two days ago, then the price drop was announced the following day!

I'll kick it off.
Current phone HTC One M7. Loved the build quality but my speakers have seen better days (crackling). No more support.
Considered the Nexus 6p, similar build to m7 but having held one it's too darn big (thumb pilot here). 5x plastic no thanks.
The One X looks the part and is identical in size to the m7. I'm still in contract so the price is appealing. But is it an upgrade?
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
Main concerns:
Battery is smaller than OPO. Wifi doesn't support AC which isn't th3e biggest deal as it has N support.
Band 17 in USA. Other people mentioned that Operating Band 4 is still 1700mhz so this may work on ATT.
Main issue for me is the lack of nfc, seems like One Plus thinks they can ignore it...

Same here with the m7.
A 5" phone is my sweet spot. The design is nice. The processor is a clear upgrade to the 600. It has a gig more ram. The storage is lacking, but it does support sd cards. My last phone with sd support ended with a permanent loop trying to load/scan the card... So I'm wary of this. According to Pei, oxygen OS is getting a 6.0 update... He just didn't say when. Also, oxygen has some of its own homegrown 6.0 fearures (doze mode, permissions, etc.). How good they are, I don't know.
I'm feeling very intrigued by this phone. The invite system and faq page saying it takes weeks to fill an order once places has me second guessing.

Quality, price and size has me interested. Particularly the size, bigger screen but same size overall. Thought I had to have the 6p but a mate got one and I'm not interested in a phone that needs two hands to use comfortably.

Don't buy the one plus x. After having issues with my oneplus one and two, I'm done with one plus as a whole!
The only good thing with the x is they went with the 801 instead of the mediatek crap as the rumors had said.

Oneplus one had yellow screen, then developed touchscreen issues. They customer service (lack of) is horrible.
Oneplus two had home button issue, overheated issues, and oxygenOS is alpha at best. Lag lag lag.
They are not ready to be a major player in the smartphone world. So if you have any issues(and you probably will) get ready to wait like two months just to get a replacement device. Emailing then and getting one response back a day, sending in pictures, and videos to prove to them your issues, for them then to stop emailing you completely to then get some other rep asking you to do the same thing all over again. That is if you get a invite.

I had a 2gb moto g and I would choice it over the x. Especially with warranty issues if any down the road. While the x has better specs, the g is water resistant, and you can moto maker is depends on where you live(certain countries) battery life is also good on the g, and the screen is nice but the x screen with amoled will pop better but with amoled screen you will most likely have screen burn!!!!

They are a dodgy company in every way.
Customer support nearly non-existent. Terrible quality assurance/control. I'd just stay away altogether, especially now they're using OxygenOS which is basically stock android.. But far worse.
Honestly, it's just one let down after another after another.
I'd sooner go a Xperia Z5 Compact.
1. Currently using my old Nexus 4 after breaking my Moto X 2014.
2. I actually bought the Nexus 5X, but returned it because I didn't like the size.
3. Size and price.

Yup, it's settled, screw OnePlus. I'm going for the G3
Why do you people come here just to sh!t all over a product? Obvious that several of you aren't buying one, what are you doing here?
I had no issues whatsoever with my Oneplus 1 and enjoyed a pretty robust development community. The phone was just too big for me.
Then I bought a Moto G3, which I like a lot, size is perfect.. but it is a bit laggy and 720p. I keep thinking- if this thing just had an 801 (which is still a completely legit cpu). Bam! Oneplus comes out with this. I'm even surprised at the 3GB's of ram for that price. I'm definitely buying one. Invite's already claimed.
Granted, I heard of the nightmare customer support I luckily never had to contact. I've heard of the touch screen issues, which my +1 never had. I'm not saying the company or the QC is perfect, but for $250 i'm willing to take a chance on a company that has already sold me a solid device.
Bottom line-That size, that price, decent specs, I'm in.

That's interesting I was thinking of buying a 5x, but it did look a little bigish to me for just 5.2". I'm glad I waited for this phone.
They could easily try to get $299 out of this phone. The price totally seals the deal for me.
Was, until I found out the 2nd SIM slot is shared with microSD. That means you either have dual SIM without microSD, or single SIM + microSD.

Coming from a Verizon Note 5 I do not miss or regret switching to the Moto at all. The only thing that is better is the camera and that's not by much at all. Having a unlocked bootloader, root and some great custom ROMs to play with is well worth the switch. It runs sweet on stock Marshmallow too.
The note series are the best phones money can by specs wise I owed each one up till Note 4 but with the loss of the MicroSD on N5ote and inability to root (Verizon edition), I sold my Note 4 and moved to Moto X. As someone else had shared, the only thing I miss is the better camera quality.

Good choice, I've tried a bunch of phones this year and decided the Mxpe is the best overall phone available. That could change soon with the new phones coming but for the price and ability to unlock and customize with Roms and xposed mods it don't think it can be beat, even by the nexii.
Give us a reply after you spend some time with it. I'm running truepurex 2.6 ROM with xposed, gravity box, minminguard ad blocker, and YouTube adaway. GPS high accuracy, Google location history on and paired with pebble watch and get great performance and battery life.

As a matter of fact I did and just returned a V10 yesterday. The only better thing from my point of view is the removable battery and camera witch it isn't by much. I was going to purchase one through Verizon on their payment plan that would have cost about $10.00 a month but decided against it. I didn't want to be into Verizon for the payment plan plus no root, unlocked bootloader or Marshmallow really did it in for me. I know how Verizon and LG are slow with phone updates. Plus I really don't care for the 2nd screen. I know it can be turned off but I would lose the on screen notifications when the phone is idle. Other than that the V10 is a great phone and very well built. It definitely takes some great pictures but the Pure is up there too.

$500.00 seems like a good price and being T-Mobile you can do whatever you want with it. Honestly if I could have a unlocked bootloader and root I would have kept it but I have to stick with Verizon because they treat me good. I did settle for a G4 for a bit over $200.00 to play with.

Thanks for the advice.
Thinking about it I think I will pass.
Snapdragon 808 does not really need 4gb or RAM.
And I don't really wabt to buy anything from eBay.
Plus I should save some money and wait for the next gen that is going to be out by the end if this year.

I just realized.
The Nexus 6p is the same price as LG v10. And I did. It get that one since I got the Moto for 375 on Amazon.
Damn you buyers remours. Damn you my sweet capitalist way of life.
But in general. I love the Moto. Much better then the note and much faster (believe it or not).
The display and camera are the best but Samsung (being Samsung) screwed the OS and user experience completely.
Hopefully I can make a quick buck on the note 5.

Nexus 6p 71% s2b ratio. Moto 76%. Enough said.

Just got the Nexus 6p, anyone choose this over the Moto X Pure?

So I had a s7 edge which was lagging bad (came from the Moto G 3rd generation) and I just bought the Nexus 6p from bestbuy and was wondering if anyone took back the 6p for the Moto x pure or took back the pure to get the 6p. Please help me understand my purchase.

I chose the Nexus over the Moto. Reasons:
1. Development.
2. Updates.
3. Ease in unlocking/rooting/modifying.
This is getting weird. Like the weather, it seems.
Now we must justify the choices of others.
As soon as the Moto Z Force comes to Britain, I will be swapping my beloved 6p for it

Now we must justify the choices of others.

Is it possible that it's just weird to you? As I've been browsing the forum it seems like you jump in as soon as someone talks bad about this phone. Weird indeed.
Well guys I had the pure and it just seemed....washed out. But that was back when it was still on lollipop. I went from a G5 that ended up bricking itself after 1 day, to trading it for a v10 (I paid $300 cash for the g5 brand new at&t) and got $50 cash on top with v10 trade. The v10 had this weird white spot and a burn in type effect and I asked to return it to my guy for a s7 edge with cash on my end. So I gave him $100 and the v10 and got the s7 edge brand new. Typing on it was a b**** and it lagged to open the app drawer and I just hated how delayed everything was. So I sold the s7 edge for $500 and was torn between the Nexus 6p (never had one) or the Moto x. The local bestbuy had both phones but only the Moto x was on display. It seemed dim but it looked OK. The Nexus 6p was Google blocked so I was unable to test it. I read everywhere people pick the Moto x pure and I just got the Nexus 6p and it looks great.

It's nothing personal, I'm just fed up with the constant whining about irrelevant stuff. Just move on! Buy another phone!
i been using iphone 6s plus for about 4 months coming from an s6 and i love the iphone its a nice phone just boring lol anyway i ordered a 6p and its coming today! so im just excited to be here!
I switched from the Moto x pure. The nexus is so much faster, less awkward to hold, and flat back is great! Tempered screen protectors actually fit,the 6p feels much lighter weight, and that gold is gorgeous. I do miss the Moto speakers and expandable storage, but I wouldn't go back.
Has anyone ordered or is considering ordering a OnePlus 3? I just did, I figured what the hell. 15 day no questions asked return policy and they pay shipping back. I also didn't get charged any tax. $399 out the door.
Other than a 1080p screen, it has monster specs. I guess the phone junkie part of me isn't gone yet lol.
I figure I will simply return it if I'm not feeling it. Anyone else?

Good luck returning it if you don't like it, they're notorious for making that virtually impossible.

I had the OnePlus One for a week or so and had no problems whatsoever returning it. If anything I will just get PayPal involved. I'm not worried in the least about that.

That would be the exception to the rule, especially concerning the One. But if you're not worried I guess it's full steam ahead!

Why? Let me guess... The 6P is the best phone ever created and nothing can be better? [emoji12]

Nope. Not a fan of the One Plus line.
Your question didn't say to specify a reason, so I saw no need to do so [emoji13]

Yes I did, probably could have gotten it for less elsewhere/online but couldn't be bothered waiting as my current phone is in poor shape.
I got one from Harvey Norman on Friday, got it down to $667. I've bought loads of phones and electronics stuff from overseas before, thought I'd get this locally because I've never had an issue so surely my luck will run out.
Incredible battery, great reception, Moto Display will not function at all even after factory resets but on the other hand, it's not distracting me flashing/breathing so I'm not too fussed about it. Feels like a house brick, l'm happy with it. People reckon the low light camera is crap. It's certainly not on par with say, an S7, but it's not as bad as people reckon.

Good to know, I might get one this weekend! I really like this phone but $699 is a bit too expensive for me. The exact same model (Dual sim with same LTE bands) is only AUD480 from Amazon Mexico.

And you're right, the HTC 10 is at JB for $899 right now, which is a lot more phone for the money, and I very nearly got that instead, but decided I wanted the big battery. Try and talk them down a bit, they'll try and get extended warranty out of you for $120 or whatever though.
Like I said, sooner or later my luck would run out with these overseas purchases, but I've got a family now, I need a phone and I can't be stuffed with overseas warranty processes if it came to that. Everyone's different, I think Clove has them pretty cheap as well.

Too bad Clove only sells the official UK version which is single SIM, otherwise I would have bought one already! Maybe I should ask my wife if she really needs the dual SIM....
$667 price is great!
thinking of using the amex/harvey cashback deal and get one myself.
only thing holding me back in the camera quality in low light, however anandtech's review seems to show its not as bad as what the rest of the 'net is saying.
Thinking of getting one too, using the AMEX cashback deal from HN
Although, I am currently using Nexus 6P on 7.0 - wondering if Z Play is a downgrade for me
I have read positive reviews all over though, and I sort of need a change from 6P (year old now)
What do current users suggest - keep my Nexus 6P or get the Z Play (the price is tempting, thanks to AMEX deal)

I am currently using both phones. The Nexus 6P is so attractive due to latest software and features, especially with developer previews, but the Moto Z Play has been fantastic. I am a medium user, but with whatever optimization they have going the battery life is phenomenal! Off of the first charge I got over 4 days with 8+ hours screen time. Haven't noticed any performance hiccups but I am not a gamer. Received the phone on Friday and just charged it again this morning, Wednesday.
So the choice amounts to latest software faster or best battery life (at least that I have experienced on Android) ever.

Nexus 6P sort of renewed my interest with 7.0, but battery life has taken a turn for the worse, so yeah that's that. I guess I just need a change now, and MZP seems to be the best in price-range to be my daily driver for the next 12 months
I am curious though, are you evaluating yourself, which one you will keep in the long run ?
Just received my moto z play from HN for $660 (had $300 worth of gift cards so effectively paid $360). Worth trying to haggle with them now since both Officeworks and Good Guys also sells them and they sell the white models to boot unlike HN who only sells the Black model.
