Sell the note 5 and get a moto pure. - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I have an unrootable note 5 from att and I cannot stand it.
Should I buy the moto? Are you guys happy with it? Or should I get the giant nexus.

The note 5 is a beast but it all depends if you like the stock feel or lagwiz

According to this post, 8 CUSTOM ROMs so far on Marshmallow (plus more if you include Lollipop) means no custom ROMs available for this phone...
Good job with that logic.

Coming from a Verizon Note 5 I do not miss or regret switching to the Moto at all. The only thing that is better is the camera and that's not by much at all. Having a unlocked bootloader, root and some great custom ROMs to play with is well worth the switch. It runs sweet on stock Marshmallow too.

The note series are the best phones money can by specs wise I owed each one up till Note 4 but with the loss of the MicroSD on N5ote and inability to root (Verizon edition), I sold my Note 4 and moved to Moto X. As someone else had shared, the only thing I miss is the better camera quality.

Good choice, I've tried a bunch of phones this year and decided the Mxpe is the best overall phone available. That could change soon with the new phones coming but for the price and ability to unlock and customize with Roms and xposed mods it don't think it can be beat, even by the nexii.
Give us a reply after you spend some time with it. I'm running truepurex 2.6 ROM with xposed, gravity box, minminguard ad blocker, and YouTube adaway. GPS high accuracy, Google location history on and paired with pebble watch and get great performance and battery life.

Did you consider the LG v10. Especially when it's the same size, CPU and can be picked up for $500 on eBay.

As a matter of fact I did and just returned a V10 yesterday. The only better thing from my point of view is the removable battery and camera witch it isn't by much. I was going to purchase one through Verizon on their payment plan that would have cost about $10.00 a month but decided against it. I didn't want to be into Verizon for the payment plan plus no root, unlocked bootloader or Marshmallow really did it in for me. I know how Verizon and LG are slow with phone updates. Plus I really don't care for the 2nd screen. I know it can be turned off but I would lose the on screen notifications when the phone is idle. Other than that the V10 is a great phone and very well built. It definitely takes some great pictures but the Pure is up there too.

Do you think it's worth getting for 500? If I'm gonna get it (and return the pure) I'm gonna get the tmo version and root the hell out of it. No warranty though for the LG while my moto can be shattered 100 thousand times

$500.00 seems like a good price and being T-Mobile you can do whatever you want with it. Honestly if I could have a unlocked bootloader and root I would have kept it but I have to stick with Verizon because they treat me good. I did settle for a G4 for a bit over $200.00 to play with.

Thanks for the advice.
Thinking about it I think I will pass.
Snapdragon 808 does not really need 4gb or RAM.
And I don't really wabt to buy anything from eBay.
Plus I should save some money and wait for the next gen that is going to be out by the end if this year.

No problem. I think you made a better choice to wait and see what comes out next. That's partly why I picked up a cheap G4 for a 2nd phone to mess with.

I just realized.
The Nexus 6p is the same price as LG v10. And I did. It get that one since I got the Moto for 375 on Amazon.
Damn you buyers remours. Damn you my sweet capitalist way of life.

But in general. I love the Moto. Much better then the note and much faster (believe it or not).
The display and camera are the best but Samsung (being Samsung) screwed the OS and user experience completely.
Hopefully I can make a quick buck on the note 5.

How many verizon people are Jumping on the $400 dev edition deal

How many fellow verizon users, particularly galaxy nexus users are tempted to pick up the developer edition on Monday? I think I will bite. Hopefully once this sale happens development will start to pick up since it seems like a lot of people are going to bite this deal.

Former Galaxy Nexus, current Moto X Dev Ed user checking in here. Can't recommend this phone enough. Best I've ever had, and first I've ever had that quelled my desire for CM. Get it.

Trying out T mobile with a Nexus 5 now. I love the phone and the service works well enough. Still thinking about picking up the X though so I can stay with VZ. Corp discount, much wider coverage, and unlimited data is hard to leave. I've been traveling over the holiday and haven't gotten signal in some areas with TMO. Not used to having to worry about that. The only thing that concerns me about the X is the near total lack of development. It's running 4.4 now but it remains to be seen if that update pace will continue in the future.
I have a feeling more people will jump on the custom versions. Especially now that root is available for 4.4 and AOSP isn't worth giving up Moto X features.
Edit: I had the Dev edition and am thinking about the custom version myself.
Edit: Just saw this as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48033832#post48033832
Currently have a Dev edition and may be trying out a custom one. Thing that sucks is I can't decide what color combinations I want. I like the look of the Dev edition though so I'm not worried if I can't get in on this. Hopefully Moto added some extra server capacity...but in the end it doesn't really matter since demand always exceeds the preparation.
If I do get it, it will definitely be the dev edition. I wish it was black but I plan on putting a case on it anyway so the front is really the only part that matters.

I just like the fact that with an unlocked bootloader I never have to worry about a future update killing root, etc.
theres about 5 of us among my friends who all rocked the vzw gnex.
i sold mine for a nokia 928 over the summer and then went moto x a few weeks ago. never looked back.
one switched to tmobile for a nexus 5..but now is tempted to get a tmobile moto x and randomlly sim swap cause of the deal.
and i think i convinced the remaining 3 to all go for the deal tomorrow to replace their gnex's haha
I debated swapping my 16gb for a 32gb dev edition...but i'm okay with running stock on this beauty.

Me too but I really haven't seen a need for root that I couldn't live without. My Dev Ed remained without root for 3 weeks and I only rooted it out of curiosity after they changed the warranty.
How does the moto X compare with the Nexus 5?
Wait, so is the VZW version of moto X rootable? What's the deal with the big bounty?

I'm coming from an S3, picking up the Moto X today with the sale. I'm torn between the DE and a custom. Right now I'm leaning towards custom because of all the great reviews of Moto's edits. BUT, I am worried about the longevity of the device lacking an unlocked bootloader.
Any advice?
I just picked up a vzw developer while it was in stock. I am having buyers remorse though as I have an HTC One currently. I need to be able to sell my One to make up for the cost of the Dev X or it will have to go back.

I'm also having worries about this device (except that it looks awesome). I'm just not seeing much activity for this device compared to others. I'm wondering if I should just wait another month or two and get the LG G2 for free when my contract is up instead of buying this? Oy.
I jumped on the deal. Of course, "jumped" in this context means I spent eight hours bashing my head against Motorola's broken website before I was finally able to place an order, and by the looks of their Twitter feed I was one of the lucky ones. They left a lot of people out in the cold today, with the website issues combined with limited inventory....
Been looking for a replacement for my Galaxy Nexus almost since day one. I love the ease of flashing that puppy but almost everything else about it stinks. Crappy battery life, particularly on LTE, but the real kicker was the never ending reception problems. Others have documented these issues, and I've been through three replacement phones (at least Verizon tried!) without success. It's fine for me when I'm stationary, most of the issues seem to be with handoffs while mobile. I've dropped calls with the GNex in parts of VZW's network where I haven't seen dropped calls since the Bell Atlantic days....
$400 for the unlocked DE is an awesome deal, I think, particularly for users with grandfathered unlimited data who want a flagship phone. On that same note, I'm told it works flawlessly with T-Mobile, so if Verizon pulls UL data I know what 'Plan B' is.....

Note 4 regrets

Even though, there is no root for the device yet.. Does anyone regret purchasing their note 4?
If we never get root I might....
I've never rooted an android so I really don't know what it's capable of. But I'm very happy with my Note 4
None here!
Love the screen and fast charging - ive got unlimited and hotspot though and I dont pay for the phone or plan, so I'm kind of a shoe-in for being perfectly happy.
I'm neutral. My note 3 was worth $360 when I sold it. I paid full retail, minus $7360, minus the incoming $200 rebate, thus I'm out $200 after taxes and what not. However, I could sell this Note 4 tomorrow for $600, thus I'm holding $400, a $40 increase. So with my math, the phone was free.
Due to that, I don't regret it yet, but I sure do miss root.
if I don't get root, I'll regret and either sell this to downgrade to an s5, or downgrade to an international. both downgrades will cost me a lot out of pocket..

Why not just get the dev version?
I'm starting to regret my note 4 purchase, in fact I'm taking it back Friday, probably gonna go with the LG g3 that's what I was gonna get but was talked out of it. I like the note 4 but why all of this Knox crap. To much security for me, screw you verizon! Smart phones are fun but there actually a tool so be carefull.
A bit, only because of not having root. Having come from a T-Mobile note 2, Really annoyed at how locked down Verizon is.
I just switched from tmobile to Verizon, that was a good move cause verizon coverage and reliability is so much better. When I switched I was planning to buy the note 3 cause it was rootable but no one had it in Stock so I bought the note 4. No regrets at all but I will most likely sell the retail version to get the developer edition if root is not achieved soon.
Only a couple things that bother me because of lack of root, not being able to use Titanium and not being able to replace the God awful current version of Google Maps with version 6. The latter was remedied with the discovery of Waze so for now I am good on that front.
Other than that, nope, I LOVE the Note 4 and am good to go for a while.
I have not even used mine much yet. I got it on launch day, but with no root it's just collecting dust right now.
I'm still on my Note 3 with Jasmine rom most of the time. I'm starting to seriously think of selling off my Note 4 and getting the dev edition.

Well if you're really into custom roms which the note 4 obviously doesn't have then you may have a problem. But i had the g3.. The screen just wasn't up to par, extremely poor brightness (try using it in a well lit room or worst outside) the lag caused by the thermal throttling to keep the display from overheating the phone, it may sound like I'm bashing the g3 I'm not but it's just note good as the note in my opinion. It does have root though so Hey that might be the better choice for you.

Aren't you afraid that you'll open it and it will end up being defective? After 14 days, you're stuck with it. I already had to return one defective phone.
By still having unlimited data makes me want root really badly, but I am sure it will be here sooner or later. One thing I do have a thing about is the home button. Call me OCD, but man... it feels like I am double clicking all the time when I am pressing it. Anyone else having the same problem?

Should I get a nexus 6P or wait?

Hi all,
I currently have a HTC M8 One with a semi-functioning charge port. I don't want to pay $150 to have it fixed. So, I'm looking at what's out there and coming. The specs on the Nexus 6 P look great but the HTC M10 one and Samsung Galaxy S7 also look great. I'm leaning towards the Nexus6 p but is there anything that makes this phone stand out?? I'm currently on Verizon and thankfully the HTC m8 one has a nano SIM. So activation should be pretty simple.
All depends what you like. I used to buy flagship phones and I've always bought Nexus every time one came out and imo there's just no device like a Nexus device. Maybe OPO but yeah Nexus is the real deal, pure uncut Android. Roms and kernels run better and have no bugs like other devices. It all depends what you like. For me I'm all Nexus and this 6p is by far the best one ever made. The camera is amazing and CPU is great too. Battery life is great. Just depends on what you like really..

I had a galaxy s6 activated already on Verizon. All I did was take the sim out and put it into my 6P. You can't try and activate the 6P itself because they will tell you that it is not supported on their network. You have to use a sim that has been activated for a previous device.

With devices and carriers seemingly becoming more and more locked down, I'd highly recommend the n6p for you on that reason alone. I came from a VZW galaxy note 4 and I was very disappointed with the lack of root and development options. Although I will say that, it being my first Samsung device, I did eventually see very little reason to NEED root.. However now that I'm back on a device with more freedom I'm remembering how much I missed the features you can't get otherwise.

All I did was call VZW (to my understanding you should be able to accomplish the same by going into your local VZW store) and had them overnight me a nano sim card, only because I was coming from Note 4 with micro sim. I popped the sim card in and after about 5 min on the phone with customer support I was up and running.

Personally, if you're on the fence about it, don't get it. The phone speaks for itself spec wise, and on the hardware level. Stock everything, so fast updates, etc.
If you're into the HTC / Samsung, you're mainly doing it for the software tricks / gimmicks, but also puts you behind the 8 ball as far as updates.
I would have personally waited for SD 820 devices since they are only about a month or so away at this point. And please don't give me the typical apologist "there is always something better around the corner" line. I'm completely aware of that, but there are plenty of devices gonna be announced in less than a month and some releasing shortly after that.
If they were 6+ months out then I would say to dive in head first. But unless you 100% want stock android, there is very little reason to get one at this point.
Just ordered a gold. I have a rooted S6 on Verizon which runs great. But...I want a device running latest and greatest, larger display, and better battery life. S6 has been a delight besides multitasking being borked and battery life. Only things Im really scared Ill miss is the Touchwiz theme engine (yes i said Id miss a touchwiz feature! Lol), and the superior display technology. There are some gorgeous themes on here

One thing you can't argue is the build quality from Huawei compared to HTC and Samsung. Regardless of the software packed into the latter manufacturers, there is no denying that the build quality is far superior.
I had the 6p on two different occasions and ended up returning each of them because it just didn't feel right in my hand. I went back to my trust Nexus 6 and the solid feel is there and the software is right up to par with the 6p.
I'm a fence sitter, i currently have a nexus 5, that is currently running stock, as i was intending to trade it and use the money to offset a nexus 6P.
A few things have kept me on the fence with the 6p such as:
Lack of QI charging, or any cases or accessories to add this - Yes QI charging is slow, in some cases much slower however its incredibly convenient, ive even got a couple of QI chargers with built in batterys that are almost the same size as the nexus 5 put one in my pocket next to the nexus 5 and it charges the phone wirelesly in a pocket
Difficult to repair, I will quite happily take something to bits to fix it, if required and the build quality and ease of disassembly is one of the criteria i look at, the 6p is far from simple to disassemble, the other option would have been nexus protect, but thats not available in the UK.
The bending thread, plus seeing the demo uints at car phone warehouse with the same bend/kink round the button
My sim only plan/network/carrier, at the moment i have a sim only plan for £15/month (approx US$21) for that i get, 2,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and completely unrestricted no limits all you can eat/use as much as you like 4g data with unrestricted all you can use 4G tethering, again no limits no restrictions, unsurprisingly my network Three is no longer offering this, and moving customers off this plan onto something else - the nearest equivalent will cost £20 a month ( US$43) and will see my minutes drop from 2,000 to just 200 with 4G/3G tethering capped at 12GB/month ( handset data remains all you can use ) at the moment im still on the sim 15 plan, but for how much longer I dont know, if anything changes it may be worth getting a phone on contract. ( The US carriers probably offer cheaper/more generous deals. )
so for now I'm intending to keep my nexus 5 going a little longer
New stuff wont available until end of march/April in most cases. Plus the price is at its highest when it's first released

Any comments from a Moto X pure user to this?

Like the title states, I have a friend thats interested in my current phone, a Moto X pure. Of course, if he buys it, thats less I have to fork out for a N6P. My question though...is it still worth it to move to this device with a new phone possibly due in 6 months? Its $399 at Best Buy right now, so I'd be buying this phone for roughly $200 and then a new case. Thoughts?
Tough call and personal choice. The new Nexus could be around $700?
Your $200 is nice for the Nexus6p and XDA well developed roms , mods, etc.

Yes not sure on it...I'm sure its a better phone, but worth it now....and would i see any real difference besides the fingerprint scanner. I've seen some comparison camera shots and it seems moto's is better, but that was like 8 months ago lol
6p camera kills the Moto. Don't know what sites you were visiting, but it's not even close...

Just curious, but why would the new Nexus cost $700? Is that the rumor?

Isn't that what the current one costs? Usually new doesn't go down in price.
No matter how you cut it, the new Nexus is going to cost more. I think the best plan of attack would be to sell the X, and purchase a used 6p off of Swappa. It shouldn't cost too much that way, and the 6p will still be worth more when the new Nexus is released, so it won't cost a huge amount to upgrade then as well.
As far as making the switch from the X to the 6p, I highly suggest it. I made the same move, and am glad I did. I was concerned about not having an SD slot in the Nexus, but the 64gb model works fine for me, and battery life is superior to the Moto.
I would make the move to the 6P for that price. Honestly, I don't trust Lenovo now that they have taken over Motorola. I don't know if they will stay update the moto x pure to android N at a good pace or not? I had the moto x pure for a few weeks last october and overall it was a nice phone. good screen and awesome speakers but i didn't see alot of development for it so i made the move to the 6P. Now if regarding what the new nexus will cost in the fall who knows but this year a 32GB started at $499 which was a great price. the year before it was like 700 with motorola. if HTC is to make this years nexus who knows how much it will cost? if anything, I hope the pricing that was introduced last year will be same but we shall see

No, I believe the 6P started at $499.

How much is the S4 worth?

Hi guys,
Wanting to sell my S4. What do you think it could go for?
Just the phone on its own. There's only a couple scuffs on it. Unlocked. i9505. UK Prices.
Thanks.
Swappa currently doesn't have any I9505 units for sale. However, the I9500 is available, and was $100USD (£81.95) at last count. The last few I9505 units on Swappa sold for about this price. A far cry from when I spent $349 (£286.11) on one.
About $100 is a good starting point. Though I would keep it as a backup phone or something.

This is the best advice, as the resell value isn't that great these days. After upgrading, I let my roommate use mine. When she upgraded, I got it back. It now sits on my desk as a testbed, and as a backup device.

Thanks for this. You guys know any good phones that are upgrades to the S4. With the same sort of Custom ROM support?
Around the £200GBP range. ($250)
Second hand. With a fingerprint sensor.
Maybe the LG G4. It's fairly new and has a fingerprint sensor. And since the G series is pretty popular, it also has custom ROM support.
The S5 would be another choice. But it isn't such a big upgrade.
Then there's the Nexus 5X. Custom ROM support is always great on nexus devices.
Since Black Friday is coming next month, I'd suggest you wait and see what offers there are. Then you can get a brand new device at a good price.
I recently bought a used one for 130 $ (I9500), working so far except a few cosmetic caveats.

The LG G4 has a fingerprint sensor? I thought it didn't?

Guess I was mistaken. But the V10 definitely has one.
I just bought a brand new in the box S4 for just under $200. It will be flashed with CM13 to replace my wife's S3.
I think the S5 is actually a pretty nice upgrade, although I hate fingerprint sensors or any kind of biometrics on phones, as there's no guarantee who's hands the biometric data might get into.

I just bought one in thailand for 3,800 THB whatever thats worth in UK prices im not sure.
£60 - £100 i would say, 60 being from a local seller who just wants rid..100 from online
Its a shame when people have one just sitting around doing nothing, still a awesome bit of kit, probs better than the mid range phones today, if i see one very cheap i think id get it just to mess with roms/kernals
