Just got my warranty replacement shipped out... - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I asked the rep my replacement would still have the KitKat OS on it. Crossing my fingers it will so I can get root back. Anyone else get a warranty replacement since the lollipop update?

I just received my warranty replacement today and it had KitKat 4.4.4 on it. Still have the same WiFi issues though so I think I am going to try to ditch the Turbo and go with something else.

That's fine with me, I have unlimited data and a strong 4g connection where I live. I just want root and lollipop back. I'm hoping mine will come with KitKat too

What problems did you tell Verizon the phone had to get the replacement? Just wondering

upgrade to a rooted lolipop and turn off wifi battery saving. Lolipop fixed all wifi issues for me including the inability to connect to my companies cisco router which was for some reason present on kitkat for the droid turbo.

I just called for a warranty replacement also, I told them that aside from battery issues my phone was getting stuck on lock screen images. Specifically when a music player would change the lock screen to an album cover or similar 1/20 unlocks would make my phone stay on that image except if I pulled down the settings menu and then opened the more detailed settings icon. The first person I talked to said I should just deal with it until they updated it, I said that was unacceptable and they forwarded me to tech support who were more helpful. They said that they've been getting a bunch of complaints about Lollipop and weren't surprised, they just asked if I had wiped my phone to see if problems persisted.
My replacement is on it's way, fingers crossed it's 4.4.4

Well I had told them by phone was freezing a lot more with pandora and my WiFi signal kept cutting in and out. I would continually lose service. I told them I had already down a factory reset as well before they had a chance to tell me to do it because I instantly knew that would. I did it via web chat. The guy was really cool about it and gave me no trouble with sending out another warranty replacement. Can't wait for root and lollipop back.

Verizon has also found a way to put their logo on the ballistic nylon. My original phone that was purchased in December did not have this but both of my warranty replacement have had it. It peels off with a lot of effort but a PITA no less.

I eventually figured out my issue was with IPv6 and apps that are not able to function with the it on the Droid Turbo only. All of the other mobile devices in my house using the same apps function properly with an IPv6 address. After turning it off in my router everything works fine for the Turbo. It was a nightmare to get it narrowed down to that but eventually got it all figured out. Not sure why the Turbo cannot function with it but every other mobile device in my house can.

Just placed the order for my replacement device today as well and am hoping that it also is a KK device. I will post back up here when I receive it tomorrow.

Please let me know when you guys get your replacements and how you went about rooting them before upgrading since I don't want to screw this up!!

A couple of nights ago, my wife dropped my mofo rooted 32gb turbo and the screen cracked so I used the screen replacement warranty and ordered it yesterday through the verizon customer service 800 number. They overnighted me a refurbished 32gb which I just booted up for the first time, and it has 4.4.4 on it. I feel very fortunate though there is no way to tell how long these non-updated turbos will be around.

Got my device on Wednesday and it was in fact 4.4.4
I was told by the rep on the phone that if the device was not in fact 4.4.4 that I could send it back immediately, and then maybe get a KitKat device sent from Motorola. Don't know how true that is because I didn't need to investigate any further, but they said it's an option.

Just letting everyone know my warranty replacement came in with KitKat. Got myself a nice rooted lollipop turbo now. Feels good.

You are in Zambia? Carriers there use LTE bands 3 and 7, according to Wikipedia.
In other countries, instead of the XT1254 Droid Turbo a lot of people should have bought the XT1225 Moto Turbo/Moto Maxx. Here's the difference...

The XT1225 has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 plus GSM/HSPA. And has unlock-able bootloader, root, TWRP custom recovery. I'm running Android 5.1.1 (CM12.1) on both my XT1225. An AOSP custom ROM is also available.
If you are not a Verizon customer, the only reason you NEED the XT1254 is if your carrier uses LTE band 13 -- or if you need CDMA. In all other ways, the XT1225 is SUPERIOR, especially for development.
The irony is the "international" Quark XT1225 is the perfect AT&T (U.S. carrier) phone. AT&T uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 17.
Earlier this month, I spent two weeks in Brazil with my wife and our unlocked Quarks worked just fine there, as Brazil is one of the countries where the XT1225 is sold. Major Brazil carriers use LTE bands 3 and 7, just like in Zambia.

Well the good news is that I just got my replacement and it is 4.4.4, but the phone came completely dead; 0% battery life! It wouldn't even turn on without connecting it to the charger for a while!
Should I be concerned about the battery; did anyone else receive a replacement in the same state?
I don't think the battery should have gone 100% dead just sitting and don't want to waste the time and money rooting if it is going to be a problem???

Replacement arrived. 4.4.4 thank God. What do I need to disable to stop the update notice. I plan to try my first root and don't want the Ota.

That's SICK! I just bought Lumia 630 yesterday.
Maybe I should have bought Moto X.
Can't you refuse the package or return it and take advantage of this deal?
You still have time to get a Motorola Admiral from eBay. The moto trade up program is still going until the end of June, so you can buy and then send the admiral to Motorola.
Just make sure that you sign up at https://www.mototradeup.com/ before buying the x.

You can buy a No Contract phone branded for ATT, Sprint, Verizon and Replubic Wireless. You select as you add it to your cart. The phone will support all frequencies for the carrier you pick. Or you could look at the Developer Editions.
The other option is the "GSM Unlocked (ships with T-Mobile SIM)" which is the same "insides" as the GSM Developer Edition. It supports the following bands...
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA: 850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
LTE: 700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2)
If you have T-Mobile, the HSPA on AWS is important to get H/H+ in areas T-Mobile hasn't yet refarmed their 1900Mhz spectrum. No other X supports H/H+ on AWS that T-mobile uses.
The GSM Unlocked and Dev Edition will work with ATT's GSM/EDGE/GPRS/HSPA and LTE networks as it supports the necessary bands. There are two extra LTE bands the ATT branded X supports, however they were originally only used outside the USA. Reports are that ATT might start using one of them in the USA, but as of yet you wont notice it with the GSM Unlocked or GSM Dev Edition phones on ATT.
The Developer Edition for Verizon supports the all of the exact same bands as the Retail and Moto Maker X for Verizon.
If you are going "non-contract" check the prices. If the Moto Maker and the Developer Edition are the same price, consider the Dev Edition if you want root, as unlocking the bootloader on the Moto Maker and Retail versions voids the warranty, where was unlocking the bootloader on the Dev Edition doesn't. Only difference would be the appearance. You can't customize the look of the Dev Edition, it comes as black face, woven white back, silver accents (buttons and ring around camera). NOTE: Moto doesn't give out the bootloader unlock codes for the Retail/Moto maker versions of the X for Verizon and ATT. They do give it out for the Dev Edition for Verizon (again without voiding warranty. There has been a 3rd party Chinese website/middleman who has been up and down as of late. If you want to root and disable write protection on 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 you need an unlocked bootloader.
If you don't like the look of the Dev Edition, consider a case which covers the back, or something like a DBRAND skin. (I have no affiliation with dbrand, just saw it suggested by others on the forum here, so its worth a shot). And I've seen replacement backs on ebay and around the web, however it could void the warranty.

Or, if you're comfortable taking the phone apart, you can buy pretty much any back cover color you'd like off of eBay. That's probably the route that I'll go, since I plan on adding Qi wireless charging anyway.
Also, anyone know why a VZW Motomaker Moto X shows up with a $100 discount in the cart but the VZW Dev Edition does not? I believe the Dev Edition is coming in at the proper $100 off price ($349); however, the inconsistency in displaying the discount is probably not in Moro's best interest.

How did you use the trade up program? When I looked at it only shows in stores and a verizon gift card,
damn that site to hell. every thing you do the damn price change. if i try to buy the gsm unlocked (like i will be covered by warranty on the dev edition anyway ha) it shows a different price for every operator.
unlocked with tmobile says "starting at $449.99" the only one not that price is $399.99 for the republic one.
but i can't click any option. think it will be the dev edition anyway... unless i can't combine the student discount (which, surprise, the site says is invalid for the dev... but may it just haven't synced... ) if i can't combine the .edu discount i will wait to see what they are offloading the phones for.

The Republic Wireless version is always $50 cheaper than the others.
If you want the Developer Edition, start here -> http://www.motorola.com/us/Moto-X/ways-to-buy.html#MotoX-pdp8-story-ways-to-buy-dev
If you started here -> http://www.motorola.com/us/home and you're getting the GSM Unlocked, it is NOT the dev edition, and unlocking its bootloader will void the warranty, where as Unlocking the bootloader on the Dev Edition will not.
Keep in mind, that the final price, after discount should be $349.99 (Republic might be less). I've seen where Moto's site breaks out the $100 discount on some models, and others it just shows the lower price.
I do not know if the $100 off can be combined with any other offers or .EDU discount.

sell the "ebay" one on swappa or ebay, and buy a NEW Dev Edition especially since you can unlock is bootloader and root.. plus the new one would have warranty.. where as the "ebay" one wont (warranty book says its non-transferable).

Verizon Moto X Bootloader Not Unlockable (As Expected)

Just as we suspected Verizon locked us down from unlocking it. Hopefully there will be decent support for this phone and we can get it unlocked in the future. Honestly just root would be fine for me since it's 99% AOSP as it is. Here's the screenshot of me trying to unlock it after the phone just released today at Verizon:

Because people with unlimited-no-tethering-allowed data plans unlock, then root, then suck down a bazillion bytes of tethered data.
I'm one of them, so no judgment happening here.

If I wasn't already grandfathered into unlimited data on Verizon I would probably switch to T-Mobil. Verizon is way too restrictive with everything they do.
They mean SIM unlocked, as you can use the phone on other GSM providers.

Yeah same here. I was on straight talk att for a while but my vzw line was still active and I just missed all of that data way too much and used my unlimited vzw again. I bought the moto x outright, but only because there weren't any lines that had upgrades. (We have 5 lines )

I think you loose your unlimited data if you do the upgrade anyway. Last time my family member used his upgrade to buy an M7 they put him on 2 Gig data plan because "They don't sell unlimited data anymore". Personally I've bought every phone since my first gen Droid X off of Craigslist instead of going through Verizon again cuz of their BS. I've cut my mini sim down to a micro sim, and when my Moto X comes I'm going to have to cut it down again to a nano sim. Bastards :[email protected] If that doesn't work and I have to go through Verizon again for a new sim (or for anything) I'm just going to switch to T-Mobil.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's temproot feature can overcome that on some other 4.4.4 builds it seems but not the latest X builds. I tried it on my og retail X when jcase and beaups updated it recently, no go of course. I think Sunshine will be our best bet. I think the challenge is what motivates those guys the most but with sunshine, they're able to get some kind of monetary compensation, even if it's not much and I'm sure goes right back into projects for users... Which I'm more than happy to pay for a service that gives complete control of my device to me. Although another dev edition would have been nice. An unlocked bootloader AND a warranty was a combination you don't see on VZW.

Moto Care (ADP)

Not sure if this was common knowledge or not.
If you choose to not purchase the Moto Care at the time of purchase of your new Moto X (2nd Gen.), You can purchase at a later date and separate from the actual phone order.
I was not sure if this was possible or not, so I chatted with Moto Rep, and he told me it was not available for the Moto X (2nd Gen.) after the phone was purchased.
I logged into Moto Support (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/my_devices/) and went to my Stuff, and the option to purchase ADP was right there; and yes I am on Verizon & I did order through Moto Maker (32gb, Black/blue/silver/engraved).

On the previous Moto X, you were not able to purchase ADP for Verizon Moto Maker phones..
The Rep thanked me for this information and he'd pass it along to his supervisors to alert other reps that you can intact purchase it.
Does anyone else see this, or was this already known?
I thinks it's only available for the first 30 days after purchase. I to saw it was available for Verizon
I actually tried to do this by talking to 2 different reps. They both said it wasn't available for Verizon phones. Went through and ordered tonight. Thanks!
I'm on Verizon and ordered through Moto Maker but I'm not getting this option in "My Stuff." The accident protection page says "We're sorry. Extended service plans are not available for Verizon Wireless." Check the links below for screenshots (Sorry I'm a newb in this forum <10 posts).

I guess I'll try calling Moto tomorrow 'cause I'm not paying $8/mo. for Total Equipment Coverage from Verizon. NOPE!
Really considering buying this but I've never broken a phone before. On AT&T, what would it cost to get it replaced if it did break? Full price or subsidized?
I'm on Verizon and ordered through moto maker and the option for Moto care (ADP) was there for me. I purchased it.
I ordered my phone the exact night it launched though. I wonder if they've changed that option since then?
I tried this.... I got this.
We're sorry.
Extended service plans are not available for Verizon Wireless.
So it doesn't look like they are selling it anymore.

I wonder what this means for those of us who got the protection on VZW before they stopped offering it? I haven't recieved any emails stating a change

I was wondering the same thing.
VZW probably wants u to buy insurance from them.
I was bummed to see the "Extended service plans are not available for Verizon Wireless" message too. But maybe it's because I got my PIN through Verizon to use on Moto Maker and didn't order from Motorola directly?
Are the ones who aren't getting the option for Moto care ADP paying full price? Or are you buying it subsidized?

Subsidized.
I acted like I was buying another Moto x at full price and the option for Moto care didn't show up for Verizon. I did the same for AT&T and it shows up. So it does look like VZW put the kibosh on it

It either means that Motorola has to honor it or refund my $85.
So I've had the phone for three weeks now and got a "CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MOTO X!" email from them earlier this afternoon. Halfway down was a link to learn more about Moto Care Accident Protection and gave it a shot. I logged into my account and, to my surprise, it let me buy it for $85. It didn't give me this option two weeks ago when I posted about it in this thread. Recap: I'm on Verizon, designed on Moto Maker, and bought it at 2-year contract price. I'm putting a copy of the receipt in my safe 'cause if and when this baby sh!ts the bed, Moto best be caring for her!
I was able to buy the plan once I registered my vzw the other day.
Here's what I learned when I was trying to buy it for my Verizon phone (It IS possible, as long as it is within 30 days from your purchase date). There are 2 ways to purchase it, 1 of them doesn't work, and 1 of them does.
Method 1 (Doesn't work for Verizon):
Go through the options where you choose your phone, carrier, and how long since purchase from the drop down menus (as seen Here)
Method 2 (DOES work):
Register your phone on Motorola.com which will add your phone to My Stuff. On the main Motorola page click "Get Help". Then click Log In, and log in using your account. Next, click the My Stuff button at the top right. It will list your phone and the details and if it is within 30 days of your purchase date, then it will give you an option to "Purchase ADP". (As seen in OP).
Yeah I used method 2
Yesterday they emailed me my Certificate of Coverage so looks like I'm golden! :good:
Once you actually have your Verizon Moto X (2014) in hand, you can sign in to the motorola website and, if it isn't already there, you can add the device to your stuff. Then the option to add the coverage appears. I just purchased it for both myself and my wife (you have to do them individually by signing in as each user) and dropped our overpriced horrible insurance through Verizon at $8/month each.

CONFIRMED unlocked bootloader on pixel 2 and 2xl

I'm not sure if this has already been posted or not. But I just had a small chat with a Google rep and it's confirmed that both phones (not the Verizon version's) will have unlocked bootloaders. I'll just put it here since the pixel 2 doesn't have it's own forum yet.
Also I'm not sure is any of you are curious about the fast charging. But Google isn't doing us dirty like Apple is doing their folks. The fast charge wall adapter will be included in the box with the phone. So we will not have to buy extra hardware to fast charge our phones.

You mean don't buy from Verizon or don't pick the Verizon model from Google store?
Also, the bootloader will be locked
You have to unlock it manually
So you're kinda wrong. The pixel 2 xl will have unlockable bootloader. It won't come unlocked

Bro, do you really have ANYTHING constructive to say? Both posts on here are condescending. You know exactly what I was saying in this thread. You gotta be that one up guy? Go be a smart ass somewhere else bro. People like your are toxic. Go take your attitude and you're condescending news comments elsewhere.

Both Verizon versions you will be unable to unlock the bootloaders... So bootloaders permanently locked with any Verizon version....
If its like last time there was a SKU for the unlocked Playstore version and a different SKU for the Verizon sim card version.

What I said was actually more constructive and accurate than your OP. You were wrong and I corrected you. Plain and simple. And I don't know what you were trying to say.
The phone coming with an unlocked bootloader and having an unlockable bootloader are two different things. Don't get offended when someone corrects you, this is not grade school.
Well perhaps people with verizon pixel 2 can try to turn on first time without verizon sim and maybe the unlock button is not greyed out.

That didn't work on the Pixel 1 so no reason to think it will here. There is only one way to unlock the bl if you want. Buy the Google version.
Damn, So I ordered the Verizon versions, launch day.
If I'd have ordered the unlocked version, any issues with it working on Verizon?
Thinking about calling them and switching..
I called Google, to change my pixel orders to the pay store unlocked version.
Was told that the Verizon version they sell is only with a Verizon sim, and some Verizon apps, but with an unlockable bootloader. Varying from the version you'd buy directly from Verizon that has a locked BL. And assured "only pixels sold from Verizon directly" will have encrypted bootloader.
Called twice, same response..
Told them I accidently ordered the Verizon sim version, and that I was a t-mobile customer. And that I needed an unlocked version for development purposes.
What are the chances I was fed a line of BS? Never dealt directly with Google.

The customer service representative was likely correct, but they only know what they are told.
99% of them have never even considered unlocking the bootloader, or even really know what that means.

Verizon model direct from Google cannot be bootloader unlocked.

That's an excellent question. I mean, does it make sense that they would sell the "Verizon" version with Verizon bloat on it and not have Verizon's deal with their encrypted bootloader? On the other hand, maybe Google wants as many people to but through them directly and if they do then the bonus is the unlockable bootloader. So many questions. To be honest, I would try to get it changed to the carrier free version with no Verizon ties. That's just my opinion.

That is a very good question, but I do believe they are telling the truth. Google didn't sell the Verizon version last time around afaik, so this is new. I would think the only difference is the sim and programs installed. I'm not sure but certainly curious to know. I'm also not sure why they are doing this. Why would you buy a VZW model from Google in the first place? Why not go directly to Verizon? Maybe they are trying to be sure distribution isn't messed up like last time. If Verizon sells out you can get it from us, finance it through us, return it to us if it messes up.

Bought Unlocked OnePlus 6T from Swappa, but still has T-Mobile branding...

Hello everyone!
I just purchased a unlocked Oneplus 6T from a reputable company via Swappa. I received my phone, and immediately noticed when starting it that it had the T-Mobile splashscreen, and prompted to download 2 T-mobile apps at startup. Now, here is the catch. I'm using Google FI, and Google FI only supports the T-mobile carrier on Oneplus phones, so I can't switch carrier like I normally can on other Google Fi phones (eg my old Nexus 6P). I was under the impression that the phone I would receive would be the one directly from Oneplus (unlocked) and not a T-mobile that the company had unlocked themselves. Only one sim (which is actually fine, and I know you can buy the separate dual sim tray). The main concern is that my updates may come in slower (which is what I've read on the T-mobile vs Unlocked articles).
Is there ANY definite way of telling if the phone is truly unlocked? If I'm using Google Fi (which supports T-mobile anyways), and it's working, does that mean it's carrier unlocked?
I checked out the developer options and saw the OEM Unlocking (Allow the bootloader to be unlocked) is off (not activated).
I would really appreciate any help, because if I need to return this phone, I'd like to do it ASAP.
If I'm not mistaken, you will have more than the issue of replacement of the single tray for a dual one if you want to use multiple SIM cards. First, the stock TMOBILE firmware doesn't support this even with a dual SIM tray. Second is these TMobile branded phones only have one IMEI, so that even if you convert by flashing to the international version you'll still be SOL because of not having the second IMEI for the second SIM.
As for unlocking. Are you talking about carrier unlocked or bootloader unlocked? There are hacks posted here that show how to do both, but once bootloader unlocked you won't be able to take anymore TMobile updates, because data stored in the internal storage partition gets wiped so the updates refuse to execute.
As to carrier unlocked, the easiest way to test is to insert a SIM from another company and see if the phone works. A carrier locked phone won't work on another carrier's SIM.
I hope this helps.

Converting to the international version will unlock the second sim capability, you just need to buy a dual SIM tray after that.

I would send the phone back and report them on Swappa. Unless the listing stated that it was a T-Mobile phone with SIM unlocked then you got taken advantage of.
I was trading comments with the seller on Swappa, and someone from the actual Swappa team jumped in and gave the dealer a lashing for selling carrier unlocked phones as Factory unlocked, told them it was against the rules and told them to make it right. It was pretty impressive. Still no reply. Sad thing is, the T-mobile version went on sale today brand new with authentic charger/cable/headphone adapter, which I just received some generic charger and cable, all for the same price I paid for a "mint" phone. Had I just waited a week, I could have just unlocked a new phone myself with authentic accessories. The phone that they sent me works fine for what I'm using it as, if they would send me some authentic accessories, I'd probably settle for that. I just hate that I'm being duped, as well as others. They have 53 more "factory unlocked" devices oneplus 6ts on sale now, so if anybody sees this and wants to buy one, I'd beware and know what you are getting into. Seller is pretty big, GM Deals.
If it is not exactly what was advertised, and the seller doesn't fix it promptly, leave negative review and send it back. Swappa and PayPal will find in your favor.

Now I'm starting to think it's not even carrier unlocked. Got this with Oxygen Updater.

Swappa backs up their sales. If the person disappears they will likely get banned and swappa will work with you to make it right. Rarely have I had problems on there but the Oneplus devices are a mess on there. Basically the ONLY cue is that the IMEI is branded on the back for the TMO version and isn't for the version directly from OP. When I was shopping for a 7 Pro for a while I noticed a bunch of these mistakes or lack of attention to detail on the seller's part. Not surprised by this.
If you want to keep it, you can easily convert it to International like I have and use it as if it was from Oneplus. I don't use dual SIM though, but the trays are like 3 bucks.
You can go to the unlock app, which is actually in the settings I think and is not actually an app but don't quote me on that and see if it'll unlock for you. If it works, meaning it's paid off and stuff, it should unlock. If you are stuck calling TMO and wasting your time, I would send it back.

How can you use the second SIM when the device has only one IMEI? It would be impossible to use both SIMS simultaneously with only one IMEI. Being able to use only one at a time defeats the purpose of having dual SIM capability!
Having a device capable of using 2 SIMs, but only one IMEI, makes it a 2 SIM device, but not a dual SIM. A dual SIM handset is able to register on two networks simultaneously or have multiple numbers and accounts with the same network simultaneously, while a 2 SIM handset can only work on one at a time. There really isn't much of an advantage other than not having to change out SIMs when leaving one carrier's service area.
Hey guys, thanks for all the replies, I've learned a lot from this thread!
Thankfully they asked if I wanted a refund, and I told them yes considering it was not exactly what I paid for. They haven't replied back, but I'm sure they will today with instructions. They only reply once a day, the same time of the day, every time lol.
I already bought another off of swappa from an individual who confirmed it's what I want, provided plenty of pictures, as well all original items and accessories, packaging, and like 5 cases for cheaper than my other purchase. Hopefully that refund comes in next week hahaha.
