Any P8 Max owners - Huawei P8 Questions & Answers

I'm thinking of importing a P8 Max to replace my Xperia Z Ultra. It would be great to hear from anyone who has the phone already, thoughts about performance and size
thnks

better than Ultra Z but without the waterproofness
better camera, real world performance is not much different.

Performance is very good, but the screen is very big, you can look here: http://www.gizok.com/huawei-p8-max.html

performance is great no lag at all
great camera
great sound for speaker and headphone
great screen
fantastic build

I would love to import one too but I'm afraid of the performance. How does it behave in games like Rayman of the same kind of game? My P7 is ok for the first two minutes and then starts lagging. I really love the HUGE screen and the battery! Does it get hot while playing/watching movies (which is what Imma do most (with the pictures)).
Also, compared to the P7 (if any of you guys know) how is the camera? I loved the camera on my P7 and it really got me into taking a looooot of pictures!
how is the battery doing for you guys? how long does it last?
Thanks a lot for all your answers, and sorry for all those questions
EDIT: One last question, could you guy give me a site or two to import the device (I live in Belgium (EU)). I Know Honormi but I don't know if it can be trusted or not

its a good device

i ordered from here http://www.wondamobile.com/mobile/huawei/huawei-p8-1847.html
Should be getting it on Monday

Thanks for your answer, may I ask you if it is possible to send me pics of the device and have a first impression from you when you're getting it?? If it's lagging at all, etc. I'm writing it from my P7 on chrome using Google keyboard and it has lags (not all the time tho) which is boring. I wanna be sure I won't have the same problems with the P8 Max as I intend to keep it for at least a year and a half
Thanks again

Did you receive it? how is it?
I keep getting news that it ain't that good with so-called big games and still come back to it when thinking about my next smartphone, at the point that I'm questioning my sanity ... I've also heard that, with an intensive usage you could "only" get about 10 hours (I don't think that it means 10 hours of on screen time) so I'm kinda disappointed by the battery ...
Looking forward to hearing more from you guys.

problems with delivery company (DPD) in the UK meant it didn't come today, hopefully tomorrow. I will update as soon as I have it

I finally got hold of this bad boy and it was worth the wait. Superb premium build, super fast with no lag whatsoever and amazing battery life. It came bundled with the official dot flip case which it also excellent. I am very happy

It took 3 days to get from Hong Kong to the UK and 4 days to get from Heathrow to me in London!! Lol

Haha that's unlucky.
I had a question about the messages you sent me: you told me you had a lot of on screen time, and the battery lasted all day long. Could you tell me, on a average day (I'm a power user too) how much on screen time you get and how much battery you still have?
Thanks a lot!
I read about the Mate8 that might be announced in September and gosh it sounds sexy, I had made my mind and wanted to order the P8 Max but I'll have to wait to see if the M8 gets the kirin 950 or not

What about camera quality and speaker quality?

camera is great speaker is awesome

I'm hoping to snag one from this site for $610 for the silver 64GB. Replacing my Z Ultra as well.
http://www.gizok.com/huawei-p8-max-4g-octa-core-64-bit-3gb-64gb.html
Pretty psyched to have 64GB built in and I'm expecting it to work with my 128GB microSDXC card, even though it only mentioned up to 64GB cards.
Can any of you verify it working with a 128GB microSD card?

I have been playing with it for a couple of days now. Some of the review sites states the phone has nfc, however I wasn't able to find it under the settings and touching my nfc enabled headphones does nothing. Hence phone does not have nfc..?
Split-screen mode is great, but the apps are still limited. Has anyone install apps that are working with huawei split screen?

Sick of all the wingers

im so sick of everyone complaining about outdated software, missing features just be happy with your phone. if its so crap why the hell did you get in the 1st place? were u hoping for an update or root? in that case you should have waited for either one of those to happen before buying the phone.
im getting my x10 on monday (im from australia) and ive played around with the store demos and truthfully its a great phone, had a hard choice between x10 and desire, but thruthfully i dont like the fact that HTC 'cheated' on the resolution of their 'amoled' screen and by the way the I8000 amoled is better anyway but whites are better on a TFT screen (just an observation, correct me if im wrong but thats my opinion)
currently i have Samsung I8000 (before that samsung i900) and if i waited for samsung to update it to 6.5 in australia id have jumped off a cliff. phone got hacked, updated to 6.5.3 and 6.5.5 and guess what only like last week did samsung decide to officially release an update for the phone (an official one) and its outdated by about 4-6 months to what im actually running on the phone. and guess what after all that i still love the phone.
(by the way HTC had windows mobile 6.5 about a year ago)
i researched, played around and got what i wanted and what had the features that i needed.
loved every phone i had and will have.... want to know why? ITS BECAUSE I GET A PHONE WHICH HAS WHAT I NEED AND WANT NOT WHAT LOOKS BEST OR IS 'TRENDY'
SO IF YOU GO SO MANY PROBLEMS AND SO DISAPPOINTED WITH SONY ERICSSON WHY, SERIOUS, WHY THE HELL DID YOU GET THE XPERIA X10????
JUST A THOUGHT, MAYBE IM TOO AMBITIOUS IN ASSUMING PEOPLE BUY PHONES BECAUSE THEY NEED THEM AND NOT BECAUSE THEY LOOK LIKE A GREAT SHINY NEW TOY
very true dude i cant stand everyone *****ing about this phone. If you dont like the phone dont bloody get it in the first place simple !
And your moaning about people winging and moaning?....
-------------------------------------
..
Hi Aussie buddy. I agree about the ott whining, especially because s.e. have confirmed at least a 2.1 update. Tbh, I buy my phones based on aesthetics (had a hero before the x10) so I'm getting everything I want and more with this beaut.

hey if all the wingers can winge... so i decided to winge about wingers winging lol
I buy a phone with the following specifications: geotagging with a good camera, good autonomy, blah blah blah. So finally I get a phone with a lot of bugs. No geotagging with a poor camera (maybe not the hardware but software), very bad autonomy, blah blah blah.
Understand "blah blah blah" like my english is not very good.. and I don't want to fire my brain to write what you can read for everyone that own a X10 and use it like a smartphone, not only a mobile phone. So, if you are happy with X10 maybe you waste a lot of money purchasing it. Due to, if you want to call and write some SMS.. why you didn't buy a Nokia 6210?
Check that my friend > http://www.htcmania.com/showpost.php?p=1079784&postcount=1 > if you think that you have a good smartphone in your hands, you have the same criterion like my mum about a good smartphone it's.
Oh! I forgot... I didn't dream with Froyo.. I dream with a X10 without tons of bugs. Only!
You're right of course.. people should focus on the positives of the phone and not just ***** about the things that are wrong.. although it's very easy to get drawn in to the issues about poor customer service and responsiveness from SE.. which it actually the most worrying things about owning the flagship SE handset..
One last point.. and apologies in advance for being picky... but it's "Whinging" not "winging"

You are a fool.
The only reason I can like my phone is because it was expensive? You gotta have a pretty f'ed up life if that's what makes you happy. I like the phone because I can do anything I could possibly want on it, I have no "bugs", and I have amazing battery life. The phone is exactly what I wanted.
Also, it wasn't expensive for me either. In Japan, the Xperia is cheaper than the iPhone 3GS. $280US for new customers, $380US for existing.

I agree the Phone is full of Bugs if you use it intense. I bought the Phone because the Features sounded good to me. It does all what it is supposed to do but non of it it does right , that's what is my personal main Issue with the Phone. Besides the low Call Volume is especially in a noisy environment pretty annoying. Once all those bugs are fixed i am sure we will have a pretty nice Phone , including the 2.1 update of course. Just my Phones usually don't live that long and probably by the end of the Year i don't own the Xperia anymore.

Geotagging works just fine. All my friends faces show up in Mediascape/Timescape. The tags don't get erased. Wifi connects/disconnects just fine for me, I only use it at home, occasionally, since 3G is more than fast enough for downloading small apps/internet/email. I get over a day of battery life easily. I used GPS for MyTracks to track my drive home tonight for an hour. I used the internet often, watched 15 minutes of High Quality YouTube videos, sent a bunch of emails, took several photos, and downloaded a few apps of the market. Still have 27% battery life, which will last me until the morning. (It's 2 am right now where I am.)
Is it really that hard for you to believe that someone is not having problems with their phone? My only problem I've had was the USB port cover falling off somewhere. I was kinda pissed off about that, but a 1 minute trip to the Docomo store, and I had a new port cover, for free.

Do not forget the Japanese (Docomo) X10 is different to the other X10 , eg talking about more RAM and dunno what else Sony might have changed in the Japanese Version.

Hey... you got it. Check the image. You don't have ID-Tag 0001 and 0003 in the picture and you don't know if the latitude and longitude is positive or negative... so you can not geolocate it with picasa (for example).

Didn't you even checked the camera of phone before purchaising??? I found the camera pretty decent, better than Satio, Aino, W995 in day light. Much better than all other available android devices currently.
Here's a small comparison.
HTC Desire
SE X10
I can't post full pictures, but both pictures were taken same day same time same place.
I knew what i'm purchaising & i'm happy with X10. No that kind of bugs i can't live with...

Ehmmm actually battery it's very bad. You only need to have a HTC Legend in your hands to see what I say. Of course, if you don't use your phone you will get a big autonomy, but if you setup Google Sync and keep all time 3G active.. you will get 18 hours as maximun vs. two/three days of the Legend. Of course it is a bug, read about the next update here >> http://translate.google.es/translat...tade-med-lasarna-1.338239.html?firstComment=0 if nothing it's wrong with the battery... why we will get 100% increased autonomy? Why?
Good night!

Thinking of buying a new Dell Streak...Have some questions...

I used to own one last year but sold it as it was locked and even when using the so called sim card. One day it would work and the next I would get no network...
It was not usable and sadly I had no choice to sell it...
At the time I paid around £300 for it as it was new at the time...
I was having a look on ebay the other day and saw quite a few of them for as cheap as £240, brand new sealed and unlocked.
To me this is a bargain for a 5'' phone having a beefy 1gb cpu, 512 ram and a 16gb memory card included...
I currently own the HTC Desire HD. I've had it for the last 4 months. While I'm happy with it, there are quite a few drawbacks.
The battery is ****, no matter what, it will last MAX 24 hours with minimal use.
there are times when the battery suddenly drops from 30% to under 20, then 10 and it cuts off.
Once the battery gets to 15% it will last no more than a few hours, WITHOUT any use at all.
It simply drops from 15% to zero in a matter of 2-3 hours and this is in standby.
Lastly the volume is extremely poor, when talking on the phone I can barely hear the other person and when looking at videos you cannot hear anything even at max volume...
Previously when I had my Dell Streak, battery was the best i've ever had from a large phone, once got 7 days out of it with minimum use, this was based on 12 hours standby per day and maybe a few mins use and no internet/videos...
This works out to be 3-4 days in a row, I think this is amazing considering the screen brightness was also on 70%
Some people say the Streak's battery is crap but I completely disagree...
With regards to screen/image quality I recon the Dell's screen and colour/black/gamma quality was a lot better than the HTC Desire HD.
Finally the Streaks's loudspeaker was quite loud. Call colume was loud and clear, videos/music playback was very good...
My MAIN 2 questions are:
1 - Is it worth getting a Streak and selling my HTC HD2 based on the above info?
2 - Some people say using Dell's stock 2.2 is slightly slow, sluggish and using a CUSTOM made rom is a lot smoother & faster.
Should this be the case, please could you name me the top 2-3 recommended roms to use on xda, different people have different opinions but I would like something basic, clean, reliable, smooth and close to the stock rom.
I am not bothered about the camera, video camera, main aspect of wanting the Streak is the shear large screen, excellent battery & looks/build quality.
Looking forward in hearing what other have to say.
Thanks in advance.
I got mine last week for £199 brand new sealed + unlocked from carphone warehouse on a clearance deal - sadly I think the deal is over now.
I think the battery is excellent, I'm a heavy user, the phone is always on with data and / or wifi and emails, twitter updates etc. and I could happily get 3 days out of it. I struggle to get 1 day from my Nexus S.
Most people (and they would be right) will point you to using Streakdroid 1.9 although I'm using the simple streak rom (it's in the dev section) which is seemingly a bit slower than Streakdroid but I really like it.
If you like the big screen and can live with a larger phone then I'd say it's great
You have already used streak before and looks like u r comfortable with the size.
I think u should go with streak.
There are not many roms to work with.
Currently
1. Lite rom - Stripped down version of stock and default orientation is portrait.
2.Stock
3.Streakdroid.
People are divided between these different roms.
U should try them and see what fits u the most.

I will probably go with a lite rom. I have many apps already bought and will copy the apk's of them over from my Desire HD over to the streak.
The lite rom is best for me since I want no extra junk/apps and will use my own ones.
Which lite roms would you suggest drgopoos?
Anything with minimal apps/addons would be better since it should run faster than another rom with lot's of unwanted and unneccesary addons...
On top of this it should be better with regards to battery life...
thanks once again.

Pros:
Itś very thin and the weight is really light. iś very responsive and the android 4.0 works right. The camera is better than I expected and it does not overhead too much (and just from the right side). And of course its price , it is a real good price!!! The shippment was good, it was free and it took about 12 days to come to USA, so it was really good!!! (And it has not problem going through customs).
Cons:
Sometimes gets a little slow or freeze but not much, in theses cases you just have to wait or to close some apps and it will become normal again. You have to think that it is not a top tablet, as you can see by the screen or the graphics but anyway I have to say that both are really good for this price.
Also I have problems with the charger, it didnt work but it doesnt matter, beacuse it can be charge with a mini usb charger, so it is perfect!!!!

Have you tried this ROM on the tablet? A friend of mine just got one as well, and I'm also thinking about it. I'd be interested in hearing the results if you try this ROM...
Anyone else get this tablet yet to post a little mini review?
My friend has done a short video unboxing/review of the tablet here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxN9wT_0wxk
It's either the very same tablet, or a nearly identical rebranded version.
Wow. $60! Yeah the screen resolution is as low as it gets but my kids don't care. I might order them for Christmas for my kids so my wife and I can use our N7s once in a while.
Does this thing has GPS receiver?

I upgraded to a Nexus 7 and gave this one to my lil girl. She LOVES this thing. Low resolution be damned. Temple Run and Angry Birds are her favorites. Plus I slapped a couple doodling apps on there and some educational stuff for her ABC's and numbers. It'd be a great gift.

Thats exactly why i was looking into this. Thanks
guys do you know how I could possibly root this tablet?
I bought this tablet from aliexpress. Also $59.30 (cover and shipment to spain included). It works ok for its price, but it has no GPS (this is for the one who asked it). Now I'm trying to root it and perhaps try another rom (still looking). If anybody's got more info it would be appreciated.
battery life and screen
Those a y'all who done bought this,
What sort of battery life are you seeing? Is the screen comfortable for reading?
Thanks for your impressions!

My impressions:
Screen: Nice and comfortable. Better than expected.
Battery: Poor life, as expected in this case.

I have one, from the same geekbuying link posted in the first post. Definitely not screaming fast (wish I could downgrade to GB), but it works. I have not had good luck with getting the Google Market to run, so I have sideloaded everything.
The good news, it is already rooted. You won't find an su type app in the app drawer, but you can run apps that require root. The thing never bothers to ask you if you will grant root to the app. It just assumes you do
I'd like to find an updated ROM, but for now, as a 1-2 app device, it does the job.

G3 almost two weeks in

I really wanted this phone to work. Its cheaper than other flagships for starters. Then there is the screen which is really impressive. I just feel continually let down by it though. Its like a bad relationship that you cant let go of and just keep coming back to.
Im not here to rubbish the phone at all... Just feel irritated that you have to root, access secret menus, downgrade to 1080p and rely on a third party launcher to get the buttery goodness im after.
Our friends in the US seem to fare better on the battery front, even after tweaks, mine is erratic and thats being kind. I have to say that battery life does bug me greatly.
It takes some beautiful photos for sure. But the screen colouring does seem to let it down even after tweaking. Its real hot and sunny in London now and outside it doesnt have visibility it should.
I feel like i have been covering up for a cheating partner for the last few weeks hoping for it to all work out.... And am left wanting.....
Cant help but feel LG rushed this a little bit and wonder if a slightly better processor would have helped the battery life.
I have an S5 waiting at home today which im going to test against this. Gonna have a seriously hard choice i feel.......
Good luck on your next choice! s5 is a good phone (just overly bloated) im sure you will enjoy it

Yep, I "gave up" on day 13. Pretty much the same experience as you. Can't help feel LG have rushed it to get a foothold early in the 2k market.

Went from Nexus 5 to G3 to M8 and now settled on Z2 until a decent 2k phone is released. I sold my Nexus 5 for £250 and bought the G3 for £480 then took that back and got the M8 for £530. To be honest I wish i stayed with my Nexus 5 instead of spending the extra money for the G3 then the others.
Ha ha i know the feeling. I think we will be waiting a while yet

The Z2 is OK. Best of the ones I've tried this year but its not perfect. The M8s camera is terrible so that's why I ditched it.

Yeah, maybe the Nexus 6 will be good? Who knows. I see Xiaomi released the Mi4 yesterday. Its still using the S801 for a 2k screen which I'm highly dubious of now and I noticed the same frame rate drops as the G3 in the video of it.
It's funny, I came from the S5, which worked for me, but was nothing special. I came from a N3 before, and hated going down to a smaller sized phone.
The G3 fits the bill for me perfectly! I hate overly saturated colors, and the screen has been amazing! The only thing that bothered me was the artificial screen sharpening, but I can live with that.
Battery life has been OK, slightly worse than my S5 (which was amazing)

Coming from a Samsung S3 and I am amazed at both the screen visibility outdoors and the battery life. I am in California where its rare for me to see any clouds and the sun is burning bright. With the screen at full brightness (auto) I can read the screen perfectly. No issues what so ever and I don't need to shade the screen. Not sure why you are having issues.
The battery life is fantastic too. Does the samsung S5 get better life? Probably. But I am easily getting 2-3 hours on half a charge. My samsung would be dying by then.
When I compared the Samsung S5 and the G3 in a best buy, the G3 was brighter and the screen was much sharper. I don't know why the reviews say its hard to tell, it wasn't at all. Even the samsung rep agreed.
Ill take cali over london any day!! ☺
The battery life has been amazing for me. Also, coming from the note 3 so I had high expectations.

I used to live in Wimbledon, great place. Sad I'm back up north now.
I'm consistently getting over 5 hours screen time and going 24 hours between charges. I've also had no problems with lag or stability. I'm on a US Tmobile LG G3 and I love it like a fat kid loves chocolate cake.

I have an G3 also in the UK and I would somewhat agree.
However, my first question would be, are you still on v10a?
Cause v10a was/is ****, since I flashed v10e there is definite improvement all around.
Maybe US variants were released with a later version? Maybe that's why they have started with better battery?
And it's definitely too early to judge the phone in my opinion.
Can't wait for CM/AOSP roms and custom kernels... hopefully in the not too distant future.

I don't mind modding but when the basics are not right and you have to mod the life out of it just for it to feel right somethings got to give right?

Hey just out of interest what is not doing it for You? I am the same and I can't put my finger on it. Also how did you get the Korean version? Did the extra ram make a difference
I'm not sure how to feel about the phone. I don't have issues with battery life, got 6h SoT without too much problems. What bothers me is that sometimes the phone has lag, sometimes not - in same situations. Also, today I've noticed a problem probably due to custom buttons bar: Battlenet authenticator menu button, usually puts 3 dots in the soft launch (on M8 at least) is gone on G3...
And that sudden lag... G3 takes literally double the time to go to apps list, to open an app, to shut it down.. 3GB RAM version.

buying a blackshark 2 right now....worth it ?

So kid smashed my phone. Need something as a stop gap. Came across this beast. Its cheap (280ish), looks good, like the idea of a game mode, properly done. But keep seeing people complain about android 10 ?
So whats the deal with this phone, from the owners. Is it good, is it worth it, the reviews look good, but how actually is it. for updates and stability

Hi,
Im pretty satisfied with my BlackShark2 (not pro). I have version with 6gb of ram and 128gb of storage. Device works like a charm for me and i rarely use it as gaming device, only when i stream my ps4 when TV is occupied. ? Cameras are pretty good to for normal use and sound is amazing both on speakers and on headphones. For that price i think that there is no better device. Build quality is just top, in hand feels better than any premium samsung device.
Hope this helps you to decide. ?
Thank you dude, any issues with Android 10 on it ?

I haven't had any big problem since the update, just the typical MIUI stuff, for example when I listening to music the app sometimes close itself until I lock it from recent apps

Without issues for me. Everything works flawlessly and i bought it 3 months ago.
I got mine fairly cheap few months ago, the cheapest 6gig version so I'm OK with some sacrifices, it's very fast device, stereo speakers sound nice, cameras are average and camera app is pretty bad, screen is nice if a little lack brightness, there is no NFC or headphone jack, battery life is very good and charging is really fast, build quality seams nice too. I'm on Android 9 since I don't like Miui. If you can find it for good price you can't go wrong if you are OK with what it lacks.
I'll sell you mine for 300 with the pro kit (both gamepads) I have the 8 gig version , it's a great device but I'm switching to the fold 2
