Kernel development pledging for Simplkernel for s6 edge users - Galaxy S6 Edge General

hi i have seen this done quite a few times on xda i have been a member for along time now some times this works out great and its gives a bit of push to the development
its been quite quiet on the dev front for roms and kernels i know its only been a couple of weeks but the normal s6 seems to be on its way a lot more. i really wanted to get a custom kernel so i asked @mythos234 from simple kernel whos kernel i used on my note 4 to try make on for us for the edge link to the thread for the edge > http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/orig-development/tw-simplkernel-t3091094 and he has been doing an amazing job to implement some stuff in to the kernel i am not a dev but an android fan and i know there is only really so much you can do with out having the device in front of you as worrying that a wrong over clock or a wrong under vault could cause some one to loose the use of there phone so i am taking this on my own back to see if any one would be willing to pledge any thing to help get a handset and so we can get a great kernel for a great device for the dev this has nothing to do with @mythos234 its all down to me i am not asking for money now i am just asking if any one would be interested and if we hit the mark we need to get the device then i will start the ball rolling to sort a device out please no flaming its just an idea which i thought i would give it a go
i have set up a indiegogo page all help is appreciated Link >> https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/samsung-s6-edge-simplkernel-development-device/x/10630313

So finally someone tagged my name and didn't complain because I created lag
Nice change, lol.
First of all, huge thanks for launching this support campaign, really appreciate the support that you like my work
I know that the S6 Edge isn't a cheap device to begin with, so I probably should say something here first.. No matter the result, I will still keep supporting and developing for the phone. Having one to play with would ease the work a lot though, I'm not going to hide that. Currently everytime I add a little detail I need to contact my testers, wait until they have time and then either be happy and launch or try to solve problems which I can't properly see for myself. This isn't a huge problem with changes like performance boosts, but when coming to the serious stuff like Overclocking or Undervoltig, I just won't risk anyone elses phone for that, because a simple typo whith a voltage can burn your phone. I would be a fool if I started to promise to bring any of this to the S6 Edge, in software development you have to watch out when making promises, they tend to fire backwards But should I have an S6 or Edge, I would definately start working on those things, since bringing them from the Exy 5433 shouldn't be impossible at all. What else would change? For one, you'd get fixes and updates faster and more reliably. There are some things which I'm going to notice when I spend days scrutinizing stuff that no tester will find, simply because many issues are very subtle.
Probably my testers would be the happiest though, since I wouldn't annoy them all day with not working things
Thanks for the support again, it really means a lot (I'm almost getting red )!

I for one would be willing to help a in the way of a donation, but unfortunately this is all hinged on AT&T getting root/BL-unlocked. Fingers crossed here!

General rant

I'm an intermediate (Windows) PC user and slightly more technically inclined than most of my friends and family. I bought the Dream because of it's tight integration with GMail and the promise of untold useful apps. I have some awesome apps such as 4 Timers, My Tracks, Wireless Tether, which are useful in my everyday life, and they were all free (although I donate to developers when i think its justified).
My Dream is a vastly better phone in many ways than my last (Nokia N85) and at first I enjoyed flashing new roms and the ability to change my phone in different ways.
I'm currently running Cyanogen 4.0.2 which is a great rom, but to get the most out of it and actually have a sweet running phone it seems almost required to keep up with the changes on the Dream Dev forum, read hundreds of posts, learn how to install scripts and tweek settings, add ext partitions on your sdcard for swap files, know what compcache is, etc etc.
I realise that the devs are doing everything they can to give us the best performance from our phones, and i am very grateful and applaud it. I just wish it was a little easier to keep my phone being the best it can be.
What I am really getting at is that the Dream has its obvious hardware limitations (lack of RAM and rubbish battery life being the most obvious) and I'm kind of getting to the point where I want a new phone that doesn't require so much work.
None of the recent Android phones that I have heard about offer a full 5 row qwerty keyboard. That's what i want, along with perhaps a flash on the camera and a battery that lasts a couple of days with moderate use.
I will not jump ship and go elsewhere, as I love Android, but i think a manufacturer would clean up if they released a phone with the above specs and perhaps 512mb RAM - I know i would buy it in a second, and at any price within reason.
Anyone else feel this way?

You can always just load a rom that is stable and one you like and leave it. Your not forced to always update. If you always want the newest and greatest then you have to update, we all knew that when we started doing this.
The unfortunate thing is that ALL roms i've tried have problems with them - things that dont work, bugs introduced when things are changed. And the devs fix some of the probs in the next release, but then new bugs become apparent.
I know this is the nature of development, and I understand this is only way devs can work to push things forward. But it means living with bugs or upgrading the rom to the next version.
I've not found a rom that has the stabililty/simplicity i really want to just use the phone, and not have to mess around with it all the time, or get annoyed because it wont keep programs like the browser running when you change to do something else, or put up with not being able to rely on the phone for its core function of making and receiving calls and lagging left right & centre.
I think that Android's true requirements are beyond the Dream's hardware - and much as devs try, they will never get past that fact, they will just find progressively better workarounds which "sort of" do the job.
If I were you I would go with an older build instead of a newer one that still has bugs. I'm still on Cyanogens 3.9.5 and have no problems with it at all, no bugs or nothing and happy with it. There is also old dude's builds that I use to be on a long time ago that was stable with no bugs also. But of course since those are older builds it might be hard to find, but if your wanting to take a step back and go to something stable and no bugs let me know I still got all roms on my pc at home.
I am running cyan 4.02 and have no problems whatsoever from it, you really don't have to stay on top off it at all times since you are more technical than most as you say, you can turn around and read the first post and the change log and have a good idea of what is going on. You might have a problem with the costant devolpment but I find it great that people are taking the time to get the android platform better than it was in the beginning, don't be suprised if people from google are on here taking ideas and hard work to make the general source better. The better android gets will only get better with more devolpment, remember the magic and hero just came out still basiclly running the same base as we are. Oh and some of us just got into new contracts and just got their phones and don't want to run out and buy a new phone just cause it has better specs, I want my phone to live up to it's upmost performance possibe by these work arounds so that the next android phone that I get will be 100 times better and more efficent on that hardware
supremeteam:
I think you're right - I've just restored my cyanogen 3.6.5 backup and I forgot how decent it is, using swapper it does respond quite well. To be fair, the only reason i upgraded past 3.6.5 was because I was always having a problem with the HTC_IME - it would never stay on "phone keypad" rather than "qwerty", and it also interfered with my physical keyboard by turning on the "enable prediction for qwerty keyboard" option. Other than that I never had any problems with it. This problem is a BIG annoyance though...
Oh - and the fact that the phone rings (silently) about 3 times before anything is shown on the screen or a ringtone is heard. Forgot about that one...
Also, I'd just like to add that I am in no way bashing cyanogen - i have found his roms to be the best/fastest/most stable out all i have tried, hence why i am using them. I have used a few other roms that were just a joke, with force closes all over the place, and much more serious bugs/errors than i have mentioned here.
Overall, for me, i think cyanogen is the best dev out there, consistently pushing the boundaries of performance, and regularly updating his rom. That much is obvious from the popularity of his roms' threads.
update withdraw
I agree with you that cyanogen is a great devolper but so are jac and drizzy and those other guys that are putting a ton of work into hero, maybe soon we will have a good working rosie but in the mean time I could rant how those are buggy and lag a lot, but even with a cupcake rom you have to break a few eggs to make an olmet and that are the bugs that we are gonna have to live with, truthfully I am addicted like a drug addict to all the constant update from cyan to see what is next to come, just the fact the I have been on 4.02 for a couple days is making me go through update withdraw, I flash a hero rom just for the hell of it just to see the progress, it was on my phone for maybe a whole 10 minutes before I booted my nandroid backup of 4.02

I do appreciate what you're saying - that i want to have my cake and eat it! I suppose that's true in some respects. I can honestly say that my Dream is the best phone I've ever had, and the efforts the devs make to push the envelope are just amazing! Their knowledge and skills are something special - and to do it all for the love of it (and of course the respect of the community!) is definitely to be applauded.
I do also hope that google devs do read these forums, and incorporate the work into the official roms! I think they should pay the devs on xda, as they clearly do a lot of work that google ought to have done!
I hope that google does donate to these devs because they have done an amazing job with what they have to work with, I just wish I understood programming better and had the patience for it, I think my phone is better than my computer now, wait anything is better the my computer right now since I burned out my power supply. By far this is the best phone I have ever owned and now I am a android lifer because of the devs. When I first got my phone, it was worthless to me before I rooted it, good thing I found xda back when I had my wing so I knew right where to go and by the end of the first day I had it, it was already rooted
If google pays the devs or give them jobs then we will have to wait long time for our update and cool stuff, they need to just donate lots of money to them so they keep hooking us up first at xda and not the general masses all at once, I don't think they could handle the general awesomeness

Android ... can i have it ?? is it possiple ??

so ...
here is my story ..
few months ago ..
i wanted to have HTC legend .. ( and i wish i did get it )
but somehow nokia's N8 showed up with 12 MP camera and Xenon flash and metal body and free GPS and HDMI and usb OTG and such a great surrounded sound technology ...FM transmitter ... these things are pretty much everything i need ..
now these things above ..
is really ... really usable for me ..
am so greatfull to have this phone ..
but there is 1 issue ...
it's using ... Symbian^3 OS
am pretty much crashed about android ..
i really wish that i've android 2.2 or at least 2.1 on my phone !
now is it possible ???
is there is anyone in the world that can make my dream come true by having fully functioned Android on my nokia 8 with the camera and the other things working very well ???
please some one help me am crashing to bad on android ...
and having it on my N8 will be like a dream phone for me ..
please make it real !!
or tell me where i can find someone who's capable of making it come true !
I'd say be ready to donate a LOT.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
what should i donate for ??
All of the time and sanity someone would have to use to make this possible. It would be pretty awesome though.
Sent from my Tazz Froyo Eris
Possible in theory, not in reality.
If you really want an android device, perhaps you can only buy one.
Someone would have to hack the boot loader on the N8, Get it stable enough so that it could flash custom roms, Then re-write all the drivers so that they work on Android & then flash Android OS onto the device.
Not saying its not possable but that's a LOT of work for one person to undertake.
Maybe better off selling your N8 & using the funds to buy an Android phone?

thanks for your response but ...

i like how strong is the hardware and i love the camera and the HDMI and such things !
as you said it's to much work for one person ..
where can i find a ... team ..
that is ready to make this come true ???
At this point I dont think you wouldn't be able to get a team OR maybe you could try recruiting one on your own (if you are not planning to do the work mentioned above on your own that is).
If not you could concetrate on the first step i.e. hacking the bootloader and then post here? Guess you would have more chances of getting others interest then.
Yeah really would be nice, but unless you find someone willing, and donate alot... not gonna happen in the near future.
Pretty sure you could find an Android phone with most or all of those features. Pay $20 for a metal case

surrounded dobly ??
where can i find an android phones with these stats ??
please guys am ..
am just asking for N8 i just want my dream phone as hardware and my favorite OS as software combining to make the best phone ever !
can anyone of you make it real ?? please
It's not going to happen.
Also the Galaxy S already had Android running so the drivers were there, they just needed to be slightly modified for 2.3.
As for the N8, it's never had Android so it pretty much means working with stock Android and reverse engineering everything to work which summarised like that is over-simplified...
It's just not worth the work.

No one is going to take on a project like this. It would be a boat load of work and there's no demand for it.
As for the specs: HMDI, there are Android phones w/ HDMI (EVO for example).
12MP camera and Xenon flash? Are you serious? If you really NEED that kind of firepower maybe you should get a real camera b/c there's no way any amateur needs those specs and no real photographer is going to rely on his CELL PHONE to take pix.
AV out - for audio you can use the headphone jack. For video, seriously, you don't have something better to watch videos on that you need to output from your phone to a TV?
Dolby Surround? Are you effin' kidding me? This doesn't even warrant a response.
These are ridiculous, over-spec'd TOYS! And I'm sure if you poll the majority of the people on this forum you'd see that it's something that's "cool to have" but they would be underutilized. It's fluff to get people to buy their Symbian crap and apparently it worked... And now you're wishing for an Android "system, not phone."
Maybe I'm coming off as rude here but seriously, your Nokia sounded like an impulse buy - you saw the specs and you bought your brick.
Sell it, get an Android phone.
In addition, many people here, including myself, are running custom ROMs and some can't even utilize all of their phones features (HDMI, 4G, etc.) and are perfectly happy with it...
I know how you feel about wanting specific hardware with specific software/firmware (I've been in those situations) but these are massive projects that no one is going to attempt. And if someone does, they're a better man than I...
I'm assuming you're not in the US b/c no one here would force a relic like Nokia/Symbian upon you.. A phone and OS past their prime and I don't get the hype it gets overseas..

First of all, don't say "**** my life" - there's a lot more to life than cell phones and I only know that all too well...
Second, don't get angry at me. I'm nobody to you. Just ignore me and my comments, this is only an internet forum. Take advice with a grain of salt because most likely no one here can help you unfortunately, so they'll just offer up opinions.
Wasn't trying to make you feel guilty, my apologies. But what you're asking for is extremely unlikely and difficult. AND from your OP it does sound like it was an impulse buy BECAUSE the Nokia had a lot of "features" AND you just called Symbian a "fool's Symbian" so you knew what you were getting into.
I'm sorry but there's a lot of people who buy with their hearts, not with their heads and it bites them in the ass.
Had you done proper research (and maybe you did, I don't know) but I think you would have ended up w/ an Android.
Almost 2 years ago I was moments away from buying an iPhone but I decided to give Android a chance because I did A LOT of reading and research about it and I was convinced that in the long run it would prove more valuable to me than an iPhone. Now almost 2 years later, I'm so glad I did all that reading and research b/c I would never buy an iPhone now! Just a comparison...
And as for the hardware of that Nokia, I'm still not convinced all that stuff is necessary. I have HDMI - never used it. I have 4G - never used it even though it's available here in New York City. I have an 8MP camera - most I ever use (and rarely) is 5MP b/c 8MP is needlessly huge.
Sell your phone on eBay - I've always had success selling used phones there for good money. And you said it's only 1 month old and a popular, feature-rich model.
Good luck...
I´m not going to enter in the childlish discussion of wether you should get or not an android phone for that. The n8 has its pros and cons against android. It has a great hardware but it has symbian... god knows that if it had android that would be my actual phone... but nokia´s pride made me join the other side
Coming back to what you ask. I don´t see it possible in the near future, but if the n8 had come with maemo or meego instead of symbian probably there would be people working on it.
I would suggest you to go to the NITdroid forum to ask, just google nitdroid. They ported android for the n800 and n900(both nokia maemo devices). I have not checked that forum in a while, maybe they are working on it already, maybe they are not even thinking about it. But if you want to talk to a team that might consither doing it i think that is your best shot.
...oy.... listen mate.... no disrespect but you are the one not getting it.... everyone here is being perfectly reasonable and is actually trying to give you the best advice they can.... I'll try and break things down though....
I can definitely relate when you say that you love a piece of hardware but wish the OS was different...I was in the exact same boat with my Nokia E71... LOVED the phone itself...but Symbian was just horrid.... Here is why people are giving you "mean replies"....
What you are asking for is *technically* possible.... but it is a LOT of work.... As described above you'd have to make a stable bootloader, flash the rom and then re-write all of the drivers.... this takes time, effort and money (it's not unlikely that you'd probably brick a few N8s in the process).... The problem is that right now you are more or less the only one interested in this project.... Other projects like running Android on the iPhone are coming along because there is a huge market of iphone users who would like to play with android on their phone as well as a market of android users who like apple hardware... some of these people are devs who want this to happen bad enough that they are willing to contribute their time. Other people who are not as technically inclined but have a bit of extra cash are contributing by donating to official projects who have showed progress. The key difference between the Android on iPhone and the Android on N8 project is that there is a demand for the iPhone project. If there was a 10 page thread full of people saying "hey listen I'm interested in this".... something might happen.... but even with the iPhone development, its a *slow* process. In a nutshell the people who do have the skill to pull this off are limited, and you are asking them to devote hours and hours of their time into a project they aren't interested in for no monetary or any other type of compensation other than maybe a Thank You.
The reason people were able to port Gingerbread onto the Samsung so quickly is because for starters, the Samsung was already designed to run an Android OS so a lot of the groundwork was already done. The hardware was made to be compatible with (and more or less) function with the stock OS. Devs have already had experience working with both the OS and the device. It's kinda like trying to fit an engine into a car. Is it possible to squeeze a new BMW M3 engine into a Volvo? Sure..... But it's much much easier to squeeze it into lets say an older BMW 3 Series.... especially if the mechanics you are talking to specialize in BMWs...
As for people giving you flack for the features... Most of them do have a point... The HDMI out is a valid feature someone might want for various reasons, but other android phones have this feature as well...same for the FM tuner.... As for the camera, 12MP is great on paper... but here is the thing. 1) Unless you are blowing these images up to poster size, a 5 or 8 mp camera will do just as well.... I have a Nexus One and I love the pics it takes.... megapixels start becoming somewhat irrelevant after a certain point because the increase in pixels doesn't necessarily improve the quality that much. It becomes more of a spec for manufactures to advertise. Things such as lense size and the size of the sensor have a much greater input on the quality of your image (the bigger the lense the more light it lets in, the bigger the size of the CMOS ship the more sensetive the camera is). These are 2 things phones struggle with because of physical limitations... there is only so much you can squeeze into a phone. Would you see a difference between a 12mp DSLR and an 8mp DSLR? of course.... an 8mp phone or a 12mp phone? not so much....
Solid construction is always a winner.... nothing wrong with loving a phone for that... its one of the reasons why I loved my E71....
As for the "dolby" sound.... you run into a similar problem as the camera... its more of a "on paper" thing.... the reality is that the mics that go into these phones are alright for talking, but are nowhere *near* the quality you would get (or need) for a legitimate camera. The mics aren't tuned, and due to the tiny diaphrams you pretty much get no frequency response on the low end. Also if by Dolby you mean the phone records in surround sound... that is a whole other nightmare... you start getting into a phasing issues and what not... if it just means that it's certified by Dolby... it mostly just means that Nokia paid Dolby some change, got them to maybe tweak things a bit but for the most part just bought the rights to slap their logo on the phone... you *might* here marginally better recordings... key words are might and marginally...
As for the flash.... people usually curse and blink repeatedly if my N1s flash decides to go off... most phones today have more than adequet flashes for the cameras they are equipped with.
So to sort of wind this essay up... we're not trying to be assholes.... you asked a question...
can porting Android onto the N8 be done? yes....
is it worth the effort? unless demand skyrockets or you are willing to hire a dev and pay him for his work.... no
Than what are your options? Either do the best you can with Symbian until your contract runs out and/or you can afford a new phone.... or look at your budget, sell the N8 and pick up a droid.
People simply gave you their opinions as to what the best option is (which the overwhelming majority thinks is selling and getting a new phone), and why they believe this would be a good purchase. (ie: why a lot of the "features" on the N8 aren't really "features"). Hope this helped. Good luck. Peace,
L
Just my two cents, from a guy who came to Android from Symbian.
Maybe you should have asked for help before you bought the phone. It would have been a lot easier to help you at that point. It's not that people here do not want to help you, but there is not a lot that we can help you with. Answer this, what exactly are you wishing to gain from getting Android on your phone. If its a better UI try SPB Mobile Shell, it definitely made my Symbian 1 (5800 Xpressmusic) phone more bearable. If it's usability, there are many apps to help you out, and the numbers are slowly growing. I really can't see what would make this project worth the effort. Symbian 3 is not a very bad OS, although it's not one of the best.
Also, if you are going to ask for help you have to be open to suggestions and you would definitely have to give more details as to what you want to gain; there is always more than one way to handle problem. We all are trying to help but you have to help us help you, and stop getting upset because we give reasons why it's not possible and/or worth it.
This thread is hilarious.
Dude I was just thinking the same thing

"Counting" developers

Hi all, i'm going to buy this device, probably, but i'm a bit scared by its particularity.
I fear that not so many devs will pick it up and support for long time...who's here, apart from Chainfire (great guy, but he develops root methods mostly, not full roms or super optimized kernel, he shows the way to others )?
Supercurio (another great dev, but with specific attention to color/sound and not to full roms, again) could come up later (he doesn't seem the "0 day" buyer ), or at least i hope so, and i think Cyanogen will come pretty soon (but could it be with S-Pen full support or not?), but then?
Is it out in USA or not yet?
Sorry for all the questions (they may sound even dumb, i know), but continuous development is the only main "?" i'm facing before the purchase (my galaxy s1, far from being perfect, gained incredible improvements from devs' work)
Same doubts here... How about developers who have the device/are about to buy comment on this thread, that way we can know about the kind of developer support we can expect.
It took 7 months for the GSII to come to the US. I wouldn't cross my fingers.
I'm running rooted stock right now and I am already getting better battery, performance than my S2, and loving this HD screen!

But when I bought the SGSII in June 1st week, a lot of development was already taking place. The Note is following the same launch trajectory: UK>Europe>India>South-East Asia> then rest of the world. Now that it's available in India, I don't see many developers who have adopted the device.

The op was asking if the Note was in the US, wasn't responding to you.
Why run custom ROMs when the system is already godly? Anyways just look at the At&t ****rocket, it is a piece of **** that At&t created and it is still getting devs.
If you think development is a problem, there's a simple solution... go with your gut. No one here can tell you what to do, the Note runs faster and smoother than my GSII that has cooked roms. Cooked ROMs can increase some aspects, but mess up others. Once someone zipaligns and adds some init'd scripts, I'll be happy.

I was asking for availability to US developers, i'm european and very keen to buy this beautiful tabphone (hoping to be able to manage it, i like big screens, but this is just bigger ).
I'm glad it runs so well (but i tried it in store and it didn't look so incredibly smooth, i hope it was due to idiots who mess up everything with their sticky hands ), but i hope to see some customization soon (not only custom samsung roms, that are indeed kinda pointless, but cyano, miui, and hopefully mods of these two roms, deeply modified kernels and so on...ICS )
I have to kind of agree, I really see no reason to put a custom rom on the note, everything just works. I wouldn't mind some themes for when things get a little stale but don't really see a need for a rom.
I have been flashing Roms since 2005. The ONLY reason I would not installed a custom rom is the fear of losing the warranty. But since even that is not a problem usually now, I see no reason why not flashing a custom rom..
E.g: Some people want's to modify their cars, other not.. We respect everyone's opinion(if within reason) and preferences.
BUT: The option to have a Custom Kernel/ROM made by our skilled developers here for performance/optimization, stability and longer battery life and customizations? I would take that every time over the stock..

Lets help emwno, he's helped us

I want to thank all users who have been generous in helping get the device to developers. It looks like we have one on the way now and I am looking forward to seeing new custom rom options. However I want to remind everyone that emwno has been with us from the beginning and is responsible for getting us a working recovery and striving to improve on the device and porting of Roms. He has limited resources but continues to work to improve our options as users. For him to proceed he needs help with testers but particularly with getting a device so he can test. I want to thank Speedy Gonzalez for working to set up a donation site and to arrange to buy and send a device to emwno. We are at $120.00 now. Can we all help?

Agreed. This guy is doing quality work, responding to questions/feedback, and giving us things to flash. AND HE DOESN'T HAVE IT YET. Let's get him some hardware.

Thanks, let see if we can put it over the top. A little extra: 93B206827B439332N

Here's a little more to add to the pot
Thanks to all who have donated. We are almost there and we need to get this over the top.
Remember Emwno was responsible for the CWM recovery we are using today, the CWM that is in the Note 8.0 Toolkit. He is working on developing an OC kernel for the Note 8 as well as the TWRP recovery. In addition he has been trying to port CM10 over to our device. All this without a device of his own to work on and test. He has been working with some of us to resolve the problems but with a device he could self test. Just think of it within a few weeks we could have a TWRP recovery, a new overclockable kernel, and some ported ROMs. Emwno along with Beantown106 would open up our device to new levels of customization. We have less than $100.00 to go. Lets get over top this week!

Thanks for the work you have done already
I wasn't going to donate because I'm not a fan of CM 10 on galaxy note products, hate to lose my pen features. But I wanted to show my appreciation for your hard work. I couldn't give much but I'm sure this will help you get closer. Thanks for everything

Just hit donate button but found out that PayPal does not support Thailand yet. Is there any other way to donate? I maybe able to give some more for him.

It's because we haven't gotten any love from developers.. All I want is for Beanstown to drop 1 just 1 rom. Then I would be super happy
The devs do love us.
emwo has
- gotten Clockwork working
- gotten a bootable custom kernel off the ground
That's two major pieces of dev love for a device the fellow doesn't have yet.
In progress he has
- twrp recovery, which is very nice
- a fully functional kernel
- a CM10.1 for those who want it.
If you're not into cm10.1, that's cool, but you won't have to run it to get mileage out of that kernel and the recovery.
But this dev has done so much for our devices and shown us much love. and thank you for contributing.
Yes Emwno has been supporting us since the beginning. We are almost there to get him a device. We need another $100.00 to get the device and send it to him. With the device in hand he should be able to finis the TWRP Recovery, get us a new OC Kernel and Port Roms from the Note 2 and Note 10.1. We supported Beans lets get this finished and get all the goodness for our device. He has demonstrated that he wants to be a part of our community.

J327p Galaxy J3 Emerge Virgin: Debloat, custom ROMs and other Questions

L9Hello guys and thanks for having me in your forums. This is my first post, I'm a big fan but I never registered, just lurked and read posts lol.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge J327P from Virgin US, it's rooted using the method listed on this forum for it with TWRP and supersu, but I'd like to kill the bloatware, stop mother fuc*ing Google from always running location services stuff(I'll post screen shots) in running services under developer options, increase my battery life and generally soup up my phone a bit with cool stuff. I'm not some bad ass Hax3r elite script kiddy but the pentest apps have always fascinated me and I've got a few installed and they're helping me learn this old dog a few new things. but I'd also like some more that are ofc not gonna be on app store so if you have any of those as suggestions pls hook me up. Also custom Roms, what's the deal? Do they have any for my phone and what can they help, where do I get and how do I install? Now that I'm rooted does anyone have any suggestions what to do next?
I used to work for Motorola and Nextel back in the day as an entry level wireless engineer straight out of the Army, but that was freaking years ago and I'm pretty out of the loop. That being said I'm not a completely moron and I'm pretty handy with hardware and software and I've written a few apps which are one app store.... But I did that with some help and as a project for online classes I take in my dotage to stay busy. I'm catching on pretty quick here though and i think my experiences and schooling and what not could be a good asset to the underground communities if I take the time to learn.... And Also... well mostly...because Ii really like mobiles and wireless **** fascinates me so hook me up. Feed me knowledge and where to look and learn and I'll donate the 200 or so dinosaur brick sized phones bi have in storage to your museum lol.
thanks guys,
Grandpa (or at least I feel that way right now) catguy
Srsly? 49 views yet not a single reply? Not even an insult cuz I wrote this High on pain pills? Wtf guys. Come on here and give a guy w hand. Tbf I figured out most of it on my own, I'm writing my own operating system here you all can have for free, since lineage isn't up. And yes I can do that. I'm old not stupid. I read this independent phone maker was making military grade tough bad ass smart phones, does anyone know they're name at least? Deleted my history. OR can help me kill some bloatware, or should I say tell me what is okay so I don't have to go through the steps doing it while I tinker out this code?
Sorry I can't be of help
Sorry that I have nothing to add on the ROM department, as I'm far less knowledge than yourself and about 98% of the individuals on here (the other 2%, smh. Just wow). The reason for me taking the time to reply is because A) I feel on the trying to teach an old dog new tricks; it takes me 20 minutes looking up what the meaning is of the lingo, then 40 minutes on how to implement it. Ironically I also worked for Sprint/Nextel but mine was the far less glamorous call center job. And totally random, & tbh with myself) none of my business, but I couldn't help but notice your mention about meds and regaurdless if it was one time thing, recent injury, old injury/condition, just whatever the situation look into (if your not familiar with it) mitragyna speciosa (kratom) its all natuarl plant, 100% legal (I think its 2 states miscategorized as a synthetic), its related to the coffee plant, and although its not perfect and not for everyone, its better than any pharmaceutical. There are quite a bit of Vets that are big advocates of this botanical. And sorry it's off topic (like 100%) but it changed my life, so I know it can for others too.

Don't take it personally, for the most part people here don't reply unless they have something constructive to add or say, it keeps the boards from getting flooded.
Since you're rooted I was going to suggest looking into porting, if you can get Lineage 14 running on your device (I have no idea what specs your model has off the top of my head to know what's possible for it) then it would give you a good jumpstart on porting 15 when that's released you could set up a race with the other J3 Devs and see who wins haha.
I seem to remember reading something about that phone too, iirc the article I read had it with a special case with Kevlar weave (which sounds badass on its own), I'll see if I can find any info on it again.
A lot of bloat can be eliminated by creating a nandroid backup (or TWRP if you have it) and taking it out that way, failing that titanium backup will let you get rid of a lot of bloat.
I just picked up a j327p for Sprint yesterday. I immediately wanted to flash Lineage onto it, but everything I'm seeing suggests that's not possible. (I wasn't able to do research before the purchase; it was an emergency replacement).
I found your post because I came here looking for the same information. I haven't flashed recovery onto my device yet, so I may try to return it to the store instead. It sounds like you got TWRP on there okay. Are you just stuck with the OS?
EDIT: there is this thread, which everyone in the universe was probably aware of but me, it just took me a bit to locate it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nt/wip-custom-rom-j3-emerge-sm-j327p-t3634206
I built a rom for Sprint / Virgin / Boost check it out
How do you flash a zip from twrp? I know how with Odin but I downloaded one of the custom roms from cad tried to flash without help but the only thing that seemed to change was my xposed wasn't installed anymore I must have done something wrong can someone show me what roms are best and give me instructions for flashing the right way
