J327p Galaxy J3 Emerge Virgin: Debloat, custom ROMs and other Questions - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Questions & Answers

L9Hello guys and thanks for having me in your forums. This is my first post, I'm a big fan but I never registered, just lurked and read posts lol.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge J327P from Virgin US, it's rooted using the method listed on this forum for it with TWRP and supersu, but I'd like to kill the bloatware, stop mother fuc*ing Google from always running location services stuff(I'll post screen shots) in running services under developer options, increase my battery life and generally soup up my phone a bit with cool stuff. I'm not some bad ass Hax3r elite script kiddy but the pentest apps have always fascinated me and I've got a few installed and they're helping me learn this old dog a few new things. but I'd also like some more that are ofc not gonna be on app store so if you have any of those as suggestions pls hook me up. Also custom Roms, what's the deal? Do they have any for my phone and what can they help, where do I get and how do I install? Now that I'm rooted does anyone have any suggestions what to do next?
I used to work for Motorola and Nextel back in the day as an entry level wireless engineer straight out of the Army, but that was freaking years ago and I'm pretty out of the loop. That being said I'm not a completely moron and I'm pretty handy with hardware and software and I've written a few apps which are one app store.... But I did that with some help and as a project for online classes I take in my dotage to stay busy. I'm catching on pretty quick here though and i think my experiences and schooling and what not could be a good asset to the underground communities if I take the time to learn.... And Also... well mostly...because Ii really like mobiles and wireless **** fascinates me so hook me up. Feed me knowledge and where to look and learn and I'll donate the 200 or so dinosaur brick sized phones bi have in storage to your museum lol.
thanks guys,
Grandpa (or at least I feel that way right now) catguy

Tbf I figured out most of it on my own, I'm writing my own operating system here you all can have for free, since lineage isn't up. And yes I can do that. I'm old not stupid. I read this independent phone maker was making military grade tough bad ass smart phones, does anyone know they're name at least? Deleted my history. OR can help me kill some bloatware, or should I say tell me what is okay so I don't have to go through the steps doing it while I tinker out this code?

Sorry I can't be of help
Sorry that I have nothing to add on the ROM department, as I'm far less knowledge than yourself and about 98% of the individuals on here (the other 2%, smh. Just wow). The reason for me taking the time to reply is because A) I feel on the trying to teach an old dog new tricks; it takes me 20 minutes looking up what the meaning is of the lingo, then 40 minutes on how to implement it. Ironically I also worked for Sprint/Nextel but mine was the far less glamorous call center job. And totally random, & tbh with myself) none of my business, but I couldn't help but notice your mention about meds and regaurdless if it was one time thing, recent injury, old injury/condition, just whatever the situation look into (if your not familiar with it) mitragyna speciosa (kratom) its all natuarl plant, 100% legal (I think its 2 states miscategorized as a synthetic), its related to the coffee plant, and although its not perfect and not for everyone, its better than any pharmaceutical. There are quite a bit of Vets that are big advocates of this botanical. And sorry it's off topic (like 100%) but it changed my life, so I know it can for others too.

Don't take it personally, for the most part people here don't reply unless they have something constructive to add or say, it keeps the boards from getting flooded.
Since you're rooted I was going to suggest looking into porting, if you can get Lineage 14 running on your device (I have no idea what specs your model has off the top of my head to know what's possible for it) then it would give you a good jumpstart on porting 15 when that's released you could set up a race with the other J3 Devs and see who wins haha.
I seem to remember reading something about that phone too, iirc the article I read had it with a special case with Kevlar weave (which sounds badass on its own), I'll see if I can find any info on it again.
A lot of bloat can be eliminated by creating a nandroid backup (or TWRP if you have it) and taking it out that way, failing that titanium backup will let you get rid of a lot of bloat.

I just picked up a j327p for Sprint yesterday. I immediately wanted to flash Lineage onto it, but everything I'm seeing suggests that's not possible. (I wasn't able to do research before the purchase; it was an emergency replacement).
I found your post because I came here looking for the same information. I haven't flashed recovery onto my device yet, so I may try to return it to the store instead. It sounds like you got TWRP on there okay. Are you just stuck with the OS?
EDIT: there is this thread, which everyone in the universe was probably aware of but me, it just took me a bit to locate it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nt/wip-custom-rom-j3-emerge-sm-j327p-t3634206

I built a rom for Sprint / Virgin / Boost check it out

How do you flash a zip from twrp? I know how with Odin but I downloaded one of the custom roms from cad tried to flash without help but the only thing that seemed to change was my xposed wasn't installed anymore I must have done something wrong can someone show me what roms are best and give me instructions for flashing the right way

HD2 Breaks my Heart

Hey everyone i know that there has been about 20 of these posts and threads about ppl hating or being upset with the HD2, but i feel that i have to post this.
*
For a few months now I have been eagerly waiting for HTC to release a USA version of the HD 2 before conforming to apple or android well the dream came through and T-Mobile gets one will all these goods HSDP+ which gives you super fast 3G which is not in my area as of yet but waiting for it to get here but back to the goodies movies really cool apps and preloaded games I have had HTC phones all my live no other phone. But this phone seems so great lack the WP7S which now dropped the S LOL but I could care less for 7 for mobile. What I’m getting to is this phone is a beast with has a lot of potential but the sad truth is that you have to tune this phone for almost every thing to work but then you’ll get bugs regardless what you do its like buying a Ferrari enzo and having to tweak it that just does not make any sense to me. no matter what hardware you have from HTC its always going to miss one thing team work Micro Soft makes this great software that I know can do great things but because there are so many manufactures making devices for them with so many different hardware specs you’ll have issues left and right no matter what you. Hence why there are the Windows the market place and applications for windows mobile sucks so bad developers like Gameloft, EAGames, Capcom and others like fandango and 100s of others don’t take windows mobile devices so serious. i hate to say this but apples device specs don’t match up to what to what windows devices do but because its one device one hardware once manufacture there will always be great games and applications for apple iphone/ipod/ Ipad whatever. i cant expect XDA to make me happy with fixing and making a dedicated team or get other nationwide Developers to see the hd2 for what it is and can do. XDA has too many damn phones to tweak for the world. the HD2 is a great phone for big windows mobile users. i can say im a big htc/widows user but you cant tell me thay sometimes you wish you didnt have to tweak your phone unleast you reallly Have to. too many many companys are in the cell phone game with the same os on them. We will never see the full potentional because its DOA im tired of the rom flashing game. im not moving to apple because they suck and jobs can you know what as for android there in the same page as windows mobile too many wanna bees aka manufactures. ill keep my hd2 because i support htc and windows till thw day i die but know this phone broke my heart like a beautiful chick with a 10 sec memory bank no matter what she wont get it lol if you dont like my thoughts im sry i wasted your time
post you thoughts and comments here maybe some pointers and hits on what to do and if the tmo stock rom is just complete otter garbage
Uhmmm I have a comment.
My brain now hurts from trying to read your ramblings of confusion. Try using capital letters, breaking up your run on sentences, and for gods sake try proof reading your post before throwing it out there for all to see.
Now having said that. They are two different OSs with two different people in mind as users. The iPhone is a child's toy as far as I'm concerned. It's apps are made for 13 year olds that want a phone filled with mostly useless apps. On the other hand you have Windows Mobile which is for people who want to be productive with their time. Maybe get something accomplished while still out of the office. Now I'm not saying the the iPhone doesn't have it share of useful apps it's like I said though two different user bases.
Having a phone with enough power to get almost anything done is nice but yes as usual with any Window product you will have to tweak it to get it to your liking. I'm thankful I have the ability to do this out of the box without having to jailbreak my phone or pay for it. I have not a problem I couldn't solve so far with the phone by coming here and searching the vast amount of information and knowledge.
If you feel better after rambling then it was worth reading your post.
sry about the really bad post lol i didnt have time to proof read it at all had like 10 mins to type it on my phone battery was dying should have just waited now i look like a fool lol sry man
try listing some of the problems that you have been experiencing. a lot of other hd2 owners that i know in person seem to be having the same complaints; freezing, lagging, screen blackout, etc.
this website has helped tremendously in helping with such issues. simple things like using the task manager and a program called "free ram" help the hd2 run smoothly.
on top of that, i found that i can tweak the way i want the phone to operate by turning off certain widgets to save battery life. i also found some great programs such as s2u2 for custom lockscreens, bsb tweaks and co0kie's home tab to make the hd2 run the way i want it to. i.e., enabling pinch ande zoom to skyfire and IE. enabling rotation to google maps, etc.

Who needs periods, commas, or any punctuation marks anyway
It's that not I don't understand the issues but whats the sense of making a post if it makes no sense. Take a breath slow down and explain your actual issues. Many of them can simple be solved by using a rom that actually works. I have yet to use a stock rom that works right out of the box. Load a custom rom and it's a whole new phone. Yes custom roms are not without problems but most times they're little compared to the bloat that comes with stock roms.
Ok one i get random device.exe fail and other programs fail giving me that Microsoft error ...exe fail. For instances Opera, FPSECE 10, Morph Gear and the Camera gives me the same .exe Microsoft error. Also the music tab takes ages to load my music from the memory card . One more thing even after using Chainfires 3D drivers 1.1 and TX 3d Performance update than preloaded game Ferrari GT evolution lags so bad man. All of these problems repeat their self even after a hard reset. Oh and Chill with the spelling and all this I’m puzzled from reading my post I’m pretty sure I made my self clear onto why it looks that way ether help me or just keep it moving.
Try lossing the stock rom and that will solve a good bit of your issues. Also might want to make sure you have .NetFramework 3.5 installed.
Simple. First, lose the stock rom. Next, move the racing game from the sd card to the phone memory. Tada.
There are much bigger problems than the easily solvable problems you mention (my sig comes to mind). No reason for you to complain!
Again wisdom, the problem lies with the OS and Hardware, i dont think HTC and WM will ever take advantage of the specific hardware in our devices for the sole reason that there too many differences. Why do you think the iphone runs so smooth...well think about it an OS designed for its proprietary hardware/software, the OS is taking full advantage of the hardware's efficiency. But with proprietary software comes a drawback, developers need to redesign there software to run on that specific device, this is where i think WM wins because its OS architecture has been out for so long being its universal capabilities with hardware where else apple likes to stick to there own s**t, well thats dandy and all but it doesn't work all that well with developers that started off with windows for so many years, so now we need new developers to start fresh. look at all the apps not on the marketplace that have been out for years..apple doesn't come close, the marketplace just makes it easyier for our users today to find what they need, "Competition". please correct me if im wrong but this is my view. I always thought about this for example take your PC's hardware running Windows and tell a game developer to design a game to your specific hardware and OS, just imagine the performance difference to a universal platform game, thats why alot of games designed for an apple computer run most of the time 50% to 100% better then the same game on windows pc without having to upgrade your videocard... Im still waiting for the day that the hardware in our HTC WM devices are matched perfectly with the correct/proper drivers! My HD2 which you bought for me is fast as hell, but just imagine how much faster it can be...This is just my 2 cents.

You still understood what he was saying did you not? We all have are strong and weak points. Your reply would have been fine without "My brain now hurts from trying to read your ramblings of confusion. Hey it was just one more suggestion to help solve his problem. Nothing like speaking clearly and being able to get the point across. Do you like to talk to somebody who mumbles under their breath all day. Do you like to talk to somebody who incoherently babbles? I doubt you do. No different here, I have no problem helping people, I have no problem trying to figure out what somebody is saying but when it's a complete paragraph of gibberish there is not much I can do. I could understand if he was some where in Europe and English was not his primary language.

JUST STFU!!!!!!!!
At least this thread is good for one thing, getting a good laugh.
And yes I do hate Apple with a passion. You like it so much go buy an iPhone and STFU yourself. I never said every app was childish or made for children I simply said they are marketed more towards children or should I say the simple minded. Hence it is a child's toy.

Sooo I have been sweating, crying and celebrating

Wanted to post how my last 24 hours went. It was a little crazy and included a soft-bricked htc one (unlocked), one Mac, one Windows and one Ubuntu (the ubuntu finally did it). The purpose of this post is manly to engage in a conversation with you guys, hopefully get one or two good advice and provide the contributors of guides with a little insight in to the mind of a man with very little actual knowledge on these android system tweaks but keen intrest to mess up my own phone ( : hopefully you will enjoy this.. If not scroll down to the bottom to watch one of the most treasured videos of all time.
So I live in Iceland. A nation of 300.000 people.
The morning was beautiful and I had a day off so about 6am GMT I went online to see if HTC had released it version of 5.0 lollipop for my device, the htc one (m7). I have been checking regularly for it as I am somewhat exited to get it and stick it in the face of my mates who all have Galaxy S4 or 5, apart from the occasional iphone.
While searching various terms like android lollipop htc one m7 I always got the same articles on how htc is promising to release the lolli sometime soon. some said nonsense about 2 quarter of the year, februar/mars ish or the 90days from offical google release. Did not seem to get new news on the release date.
Until I brilliantly made google run the search results from newsest to oldest.
Well whola, there is this custom rom called the Maximum HD 50.0 or something that promises me the goods I have been waiting for. Imagine me sitting there, with nothing but free time today, thinking I'm gonna hook this up in a couple of hours : ) : ) : ) well I did somehow manage to upgrade my galaxy s2 to jeally bean all on my own a couple of years ago.
Sooooo I scroll quickly over the requirements, firmware ? ah I'll do it later. S-off, whats this s-off? well you have to admit it does not sound all that important. Unlock? YES I can do that. And this TWRP? I have no clue. But this has 5.0.2, sense 6, EYE and all the goodiegoodies. So lets proceed.
htcdev.com got my phone unlocked check, TWRP turns out to be easy, check, something superuser jibberis, check, S-off compleatly ignored, check. and firmware is only recomennded so I'm thinking I'll do it later and what do you know... Maximus HD 50 is installing through aroma or what it was called. Do this do that a little wipe and a little format. installation 100% glory is coming, THIS IS SPARTA or maximus or leonidas or whatever. Anyways I reboot phone and there is absolutly no rom. whut? It just loads into TWRP again and again and again.
Now i'm getting kinda nervous. this phone cost me 75.000 $isk$ ( I know looks like alot compared to the what 7-900 Dollash in the US)and I have heard of the infamous brick thanks to all the disclaimers: "NO RESPONSIBILITY" "BRICK MAY HAPPEN" "WARRANTY VOIDED". So I start by calling the company that sold me this phone I very very much wanted. now remember I live in Iceland. Reykjavík capital counts about 70.000 people I think. well mabye 130.000 idk.
ME "good morning, bought the htc one from you and tried to install a custom mod. it's stuck in recovery now with no rom or system boot possible. any ideas on how to fix this or the name of a shop that can repair this'"
Shop owner "Well I got nothing, try the only other store that sells it. they have a repairshop"
ME "okey will try" *thinking I have little hope at the repairshop*
Calling repairshop....
ME "get the best android guy there on the phone"
Repairshop "I'm it, whats your problem?"
proceed to explain my problem again
Repairshop "I have no idea what you are talking about"
ME "do you even own an android device?"
Repairshop "Yes but I don't play with it, this is not a toy."
ME " so what do you do there"
Repairshop " get faulty phones with warranty and send them to Poland for repair"
By that time I'm thinking I'm royally out of luck and this is turning out to be waaaaaaaay much loooooooonger than expected no one is intrested in this so I'm ending this quickly now.
5, 6 or 7 hours of googling, installing Android SDK, reading about fastboot, adb, sideline, looking for stock rom (is this impossible to find or am I idiot, I was getting the feeling I was) doing all this on three different OS's and terminals. And I end up finally getting a .zip to open in TWRP and run succsessfully SO now I have a laggy Android 4.4.3 google play edition and no lollipop. All for nothing I liked my kitkat sense 6.0 better. But dam I was happy when that phone booted up. I looked at it like it was my first born. sure a laggy build but now atleast I have the chance of working all this out. BTW thanks to the genius bigxie that provided me with the .zip that worked and to all other geniuses that post gudies for us apes that know nothing (imagine the look on jon snow's face if he was holding a htc one beauty in his hands)
I am leaving very much out of this story. Took me an extra hour on the phone/computer to write this so if someone deletes this thread because im a stupid noob. please replay if you have questions, hints, useful reading material (like a 30page book on this stuff) or, if you want to be most helpful show me the doors to the glory of a good s-off custom rom for my baby.

ZTE Blade X Max Z983 Request

Hi, all!
I bought the Blade X Max from Cricket, as it's got 32GB internal storage, a bigger screen, and seems a very hip machine.
Since Cricket seems to have instructed the various vendors, LG, Alcatel, and now ZTE to not only just make it difficult to root, but near-impossible, at least for someone without extensive knowledge as an Android dev, it's an annoyance...
There are legit, non-bootleg apps for which I spent good money (Titanium, Apps2SD Pro, FlashFire and others), which require root... Unlocking codes tend to be expensive, and the sites that offer them seem more spam-generators than anything else, and the Dr.Fone Root tool doesn't seem to even know the device exists, and, it's as yet not on their supported list, that I can see.
The device was released a month ago, so I'm not expecting immediate miracles, but wondering if anyone else owns the device, and if anyone with the dev chops would be interested in exploring the possibility.
Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
I own the ZTE Blade X Max as well, I havent tried root or anything else yet, I was a little surprised though when searching through XDA and this thread was all I found in relation to the ZTE Blade X Max.

Well, since the device has only been around a few months, it's understandable that not a lot of the devs have access to one, but, yeah... All over the web, it's referred to as a carrier-branded phone, and people seem to not want to fiddle with it...
I don't need a custom ROM, but there are legit apps that I bought from the Play Store, and they require root...
I blame Cricket for being paranoid that someone would dare to customize her/his phone and tweak it... Times past, Cricket made it difficult to root a phone, but the LG G-Stylo was pretty much unrootable... I have a few paperweights of that model in my storage... The Idol 3 was able to be rooted, the 6055U Idol 4, not so much... and now this one... It seems that Cricket is trying to have the various manufacturers leave some things out of their flavors of Android, so that even someone who reasonably is willing to take the risk is sh!t out of luck... <sigh>
Yeah Cricket has been making it real hard to root any of their phones. I also have the Stylo 2, and they had lg remove the entire bootloader and stock recovery, how the hell that was possible is beyond me. Get used to this trend in Android, it's not just Cricket, allot of flagships are doing what they can to get rid of the ability to root, cause if we root we have control not them, and the manufacturers are making way to much in terms of ad revenue to allow us to have total control. My Blade X Max will sometimes randomly download apps and games without my permission, that's how they ( manufacturers ) make the money they do, we are basically walking billboards for them. So unless enough people get together and complain about the blatent abuse of the GPL Linux has laid out, it will never change, open source my ass, try getting the real source code for this phone, won't happen. I downloaded the source for the max x 2 and dug into the files, wasn't even the full code, and had junk files from dead devices. The Android world is not what it's supposed to be, get used to it.

Indeed...
Next time around, going to buy a pre-unlocked device (hell, even our local Walmart Super-aircraft hangar sells 'em), and just have the device ported over... if the vendor (Cricket, Metro, whomever) won't do it, they don't need my business... I'm a write-off from years back with Verizon, and, although my credit rating is much better these days, I worked for a Sprint call-center, and they sucketh verily and forsooth, and I don't know much about AT&T proper, or many other vendors...
But there are some vendors that are generally pretty hip, if a bit expensive, and I'm looking into seeing if, even if this is a vendor-branded device, there's a way, or just a straight-up trade for a device I can work with... Cricket's Android Nougat flavor is buggy as hell, and this is just kinda silly.
<sigh>
What the hell...
"Oh, Brave new world that hath such people in it.."
Wow are you serious? No root method? I'm going to have to sell this phone? WTF I just liked it.

Well, apparently the bootloader's crippled, as Cricket seems to have insisted things be removed from ZTE's source code...
But, I'm wondering (though I might just be talking out my butt), if the code module could be extracted from ZMax Pro, as that's apparently its non-Cricket branded twin...
My coding chops are limited to old XBASE and a bit of Delphi/FPC, so I'm not the guy to do it, but am I in the ballpark with my idea?
Never really messed with the bootloader. I've always been developing from code tho. Haven't tinkled too much in about a year but need a laptop power cord before I can try anything. Bootloader isn't always a root blocker. It's more of a custom rom blocker if memory hasn't been affected by times changing

Well, again, my chops are decades old, and tend to involve xBASE and Delphi coding, and I know very little about C/C++ and Java, and plead ignorance of what Cricket has insisted on having crippled in the source, and I lean on the expertise of devs here and elsewhere for that reason...
Just that it's one helluva device, or would be if it could be at least rooted.... I just don't know how...

Facts!
That's what the kids say today, lol. It's a beauty. Had to get mine swapped out for another due to the fingerprint reader and camera being intermittent between reboots. Not much I can say wrong about this device. Waiting on the key to the mailbox for my laptop charger still. Can't promise anything yet but I'm hopeful that our resources will get us started, even if it's just a long list of what doesn't work. Lmfao

Bootloader and recovery
zMILWAUKEE said:

First off they can't remove the bootloader as android WON'T boot without it, and recovery is needed for factory resets. Cricket has never been helpful about supporting their phones, but of you do a search you can find out how to get into the recovery. (And it's the ZTE Blade ZMax, not X Max, X Max is just crickets version of the Blade ZMax)
To get into recovery you can go to this link for instructions

Have always been able to get into the stock recovery, and the download mode... those are not the issues, friend....
Whatever Cricket specified be done to their stock ROM by ZTE, we're blocked from doing those things that would enable us to actually use legit apps that we paid real money for.
I don't care about any sort of custom ROM, as these days, I really don't have the time to **** with it... But I've been an Android user for years... I've no problem rooting a device, given a workable method, and at least nutshell instructions, and doing a few things, as a user... As long as there is a way to get back to Square 1, should I screw up, I'm not afraid to explore, and, again, I believe in supporting good developers... If an app does what I want it to, I buy it, as long as it doesn't break the bank... in that case, I uninstall and find something better or cheaper...
But Cricket, in their either paranoia, or control freak attitude has been progressively making their devices less and less possible to do what we bought them for, unless we happen to be Cricket employees, sworn to secrecy regarding those codes beneath and behind the *# ones that really don't do much, at least not the ones we need to use, such as the menu option for "unlock" which doesn't without other input...

I'm not sure how you would root that particular phone, but I'm sure there is a way, or will be once the phone is out there longer, being without root access is a pain in the a**

When I originally started the thread, yep... I know the thing's not been out long... like since May (and I know crap all about the "Z" model used by other vendors... Obviously there's a drastic difference in the firmware, though...)...
Given time, I'm certain someone will work it out... There's a gentleman on another thread that seems to be working on it, and I'm going under the thing of "no news is good news"
I've no doubt there's a way... I did a short stint at a call-center for Sprint, and there are always ways... It's a matter of having the right set of input codes, to get to the means to do the real deal...
I really dig the phone, although Cricket's flavor of Nougat isn't the most stable in the world... but, with the legal and legit apps I bought and continue to support, that's less of an issue.
It's frustrating when a company knows what a pain in the ass it is without allowing the user to administer it as really needs be... and they still refuse to permit it... I get that turning it into a paperweight can get tedious, but, given the means to get it back to factory standard in a reasonably simple way without sending it in, or buying another is just what I would see as normal... It's my own fault if I haven't backed up my data, but, if I somehow hose the firmware, just give me a means to get back to the start... It worked with their edition of the the Alcatel Idol 3... the Idol 4 (6055U)... I just gave the hell up.

It's not going to happen my best advice to you is get another phone. I have the z982 the z981,982,983 all of them are unrootable ZTE had a bad hack a few years back that almost shut them down root was giving full access to those phones through apps. I hate this phone and can't wait to get a new one. Never again will I buy ZTE

Well, for damned sure I'm sick of Cricket's control freak practice...
But it seems there are too many vendors that undercut legitimate developers whose products require root access...
I don't really need a custom ROM, but I bought Apps2SD Pro, Titanium and some others because I found them to be well-written, well-designed, and they did what I needed them for... But, since I can't root this otherwise pretty cool device, I've basically wasted my $$... I'll get another device at some time, preferably from a vendor that is less paranoid about users actually using their devices to their potential, but for right now?
This is one of the most stupid situations I've found myself... A device that is capable of being a laptop replacement, but the vendor only insists on our using them as they dictate...
So, is disgust an applicable word?
... mind you, not at those among us who were suckered into buying a hip but crippled device.
(although I've the idea that those who actually work for Cricket but are sworn to secrecy by potential lawsuits and loss of employment actually have an idea as to whatever *# commands actually go deep enough to do what's needed)
But I have no issues with those such as I that found a really hip little machine, yet have found ourselves locked away from its potential...
My issues are with the control-freak assholes that set the policies for the companies we pay entirely too much to remain in necessary communication.

Beginner needing some guidance in how to confirm editon and also how to flash etc

Hi,
Well, the thread name wasnt what i wanted but hopefully people find it interesting and check anyway
A couple years back when the S3 and S4 were new i used to do this to my phones, emui was what i installed.
Anyway, years have gone by and i remember exactly nothing of how to do it.
I have checked some videos ytube but it doesnt really feel 100% secure going just by a video for a samsung s4 or whatever samsung device they choose to show it with.
Anyway, what i want is to flash(correct term) ressurection rom on my phone.
Can you guys please help and maybe help me along the wathe phone this is about:
Swedish sold Samsung S5
Model number SM-G900F
android version 6.0.1
basebandversion G900FXXS1CQD (I think basebandversion is the correct term in english..=)
Is there anything else you know?
I would be very pleased if someone could warn me for differenet dangers and also other things to think about and also HOW TO do it either by writing it or linking to a place that is 100% verified to work. I DONT want to brick my 1600$reserve phone but i also want it to have a better look and feel more up to date so to speak.
I really admire the things you can do to your phone with resurrection ROM. Talk about what a possibility to make a little bit out of fashion phone up to fasion, MY fasion!
Please do remember i have done this before but that has left my memory totally blank regarding this.
I´m a newb i phone tech talk etc but im not dumb per se, computers and phones arent my thing, engines and building speakers and now im entering into the realm of building a power and pre amplifier so tech savvy i am, at my interests.
Phones, are phones. But i still like to have them work and look alot more better and a adore the ability to customise as much as is possible with ressurection rom.
Feel fre to post suggestions on other ROMs too!! Keep in mind that i do not game AT ALL. I call, sms, surf and such but dont do anything creating super high capacity speed. But i still dont whant a slow phone.
But main thing here is help in making my phone as customizable as possible.
Thanks//Mathias from Sweden

Need Advice please, i'm a Beginner.

I cannot tell you anything specifically to your phone but I can tell you some things in general.
Some people will probably tell you that it's not worth to root your phone in 2021 but I wouldn't agree. I rooted my first phone in 2013 and I've changed tons of phones from that time never being able to go more than seven days without root. It's a kind of addiction so you will get used to feeling that phone is totally yours due to the fact you can do whatever you want with it.
It doesn't mean that it's totally safe and people who don't know what they are doing can **** the things up. It's not because of the root but it's because of the people. Some people just play with the things they shouldn't play with.
Everything considering your phone and its futures depends on the custom ROM.
You may get a totally different custom ROM which doesn't have to do anything with your current phone or you can make it literally the same one which will be rooted.
"OS" is "ROM".
Everything depends on what you can find. I don't know about every phone on this world so browse the forum and you will see.
I haven't used my phone for anything else other than entertainment so I can't really tell you anything about your work but considering that you work, depending on where you work, it may be a little bit unsafe.

thank you very much for your detailed answer @dedq
so a ROM can be replaced after rooting with something else rather than default "Android" right?
i'm a really cautious person so i wouldn't play with some setting until i know what i'm doing with it first
another thing please, do you mean by unsafe that the ROM could have vulnerability for attackers to acces my phone?
or things may get lost?

"Default Android" is your current ROM. You have ROM now as well. We have all been very cautious in the beginning with these kinds of things like flashing U systems and those kinds of things but the thing is chances are high that you will **** something up. Everyone did that and you can count on yourself probably going to third-party technician at least two or three times. We have never made those mistakes on purpose but it's very slippery to play with these kinds of things. I suggest you don't change anything if you really need your phone on daily basis because you may lose it for a couple of days. I'm talking from my experience but I hope you won't have negative experiences if you want to try rooting and doing something more.
It is always assumed that your phone is the safest when it's default. That means no root and no flashing anything. Rooting your phone is basically opening it to tons of vulnerabilities.
Don't play with those kinds of things if you work some kind of job where your phone is under constant surveillance.

Hello,
so i have a Redmi note 7 - Global Version (Lavender) phone, and i have so many questions that concerns me about..
first of all i don't like how things getting very slow with my MIUI and the android 10
i thought of rooting the phone but I'm not sure if it's worth it.. there's so many confusing things on the web and tutorials to choose from.
i don't like how companies collect data and peek on my privacy silently in the background that's why i would like to root if it's going to solve this problem. I'm afraid that i won't be able to find the features i have now if i rooted my phone and installed a new ROM for example, will my phone work properly with all of the existing features in it? what's the downside to voting or choosing a wrong ROM?
and if finally found the best ROM for me, am i obligated to do updates to it manually every time a security patch comes on for example?
i mean the work is not over by just successfully installing a new ROM and rooting?
second what is the best ROM out there? IS OS same as ROM? or the ROM is just representing the UI "for example MIUI" ? or is it replacing " Android"?
any privacy concerns? or attacks? i'll be using my phone for work and very important stuff.. that i can't lose..
please someone enlighten me
and i'm so sorry for very basic questions but i got lost in so much reading articles
thanks in advance

I’m also of the opinion that rooting is worth the eventual hassle. Except that it’s not that big a hassle on this phone if you use Orangefox and the build in root solution. If you choose not to root but care about privacy take a look at Netguard (Github version).
