I think it is. Well the features it has shows that it is.
I thought TCPMP was a player just something in development that was discontinued already, and now they offer the new Core players. ( could be wrong )
After thorough testing...I'll be sticking with TCPMP .72.
Constant slow downs, complete freezes that can only be resolved with a soft reset, random blue tooth drops (this was the most frustrating thing for me), the Qualcom Qtv display barely works and will not go fullscreen (so much for our video drivers hopes), it hates large playlists, and going in and out of full screen is excruciatingly slow. All in all...not something I'll be using on a daily basis, or something I can really use at all for that matter.
Pros:
Aside from my bluetooth headset connection dropping out all of the time and not being able to reconnect without a soft reset, it did work with my headset buttons which is something that I haven't been able to do in TCPMP .72
Video rendering did "feel" like it may have been better when using the "TYTN Drivers" setting in advanced with either Raw Frame Buffer or GDI...That may or may not have been my imagination though.
The You Tube function worked well, but there's a free program on here somewhere that I saw does the same things.
This version looks great in form, features, and user-friendly design, but in function, it's almost unusable on my Titan. This may not be the case if you have a device with more memory, so give it a shot if you've got better hardware because again, it does look good, but with memory low on my phone, it just doesn't work.
I tried out Coreplayer Mobile 1.2.2 and the youtube function was great, but ultimately it wasn't usable on my Titan.
I've used this, the tcpmp youtube hack, and the new app youtubeplay (current favorite btw, thanks milesmowbray)
Coreplayer offers the most features of all 3 for youtube. You can change which stream you get low, med, high (high forces the h264 version of the video) so POTENTIALLY you can get the highest quality with Coreplayer
Unfortunately, the driver situation being what it is on the Titan, the high quality video plays like a slideshow. I got the best performance in using GDI display, but even that was horrible.
I like the tcpmp youtube hack because it works with so many other video sites, but you can't choose which quality you get and some vids don't look so great (i'm an amateur filmmaker/editor read:video snob)
Youtubeplay has worked the best for me on youtube. some people have complained about stability, but I haven't PERSONALLY had any crashes. Besides, I'm so used to soft-resetting my low-memory Titan by now, what's one more time gonna hurt

Best way to play Movies on Rhodium :)

Dear Friends!
I spent last two weeks trying different app's to get best solution for Movie experience on our beloved Rhodium/Tilt2/Touch pro2 device.
The main idea was to get divx movie to play smoothly and to get best quality as possible.
As we know H.264 codec (mp4) is hardware supported and it gives best results.
So considering that, I got best video experience with inbuilt HTC player that supports hardware acceleration for video.
It does not have a lot of options, and scrolling forward and backward is a little cumber stone, but it provides the best picture so I think (IMHO) is still the best choice.
When Choosing right software my main goal was to have as few steps as possible.
I found that the easiest way to do the conversion is with ImTOO Video Converter Ultimate 6. (http://www.imtoo.com/video-converter.html)
I tried a lot of different software, Trial and Freeware, and ImToo proved to be the best from lot of different perspectives. So it's my number one choice for this task (and also some other video encoding stuff.)
STEP1. Subtitles (Skip to STEP2 if You don't need them)
In case English is not your native language, you would probably (like me) want to have some subtitles with your movie:
You will need to convert *.srt and *.sub subtitles to *.ssa type, so You could get 'Outline and Drop Shadow' effect.
'Subtitle Workshop' (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Subtitle_Workshop) seems perfect for that. (It has all needed settings and also Batch conversion option)
Press Shift+Alt+L to get to Settings/Output menu, where You can set the subtitle settings like Font, Color, etc.
Choose SubStation Alpha (*.ssa)
Border style: 'Outline + drop shadow'
Font:Arial, Bold, 22, (works best for me), encoding...
Load Subtitle and save it as SubStation Alpha format or use Batch Converting option under Tools/Batch Convert options (Ctrl+M) (if You have more than one subtitle to convert):
-set the source folder for subtitles, output folder, FPS and SubStation Alpha format.
STEP2. Encoding to H.264 format with Imtoo
a.Load your video file
b.Load the profile in general video format/ 'H.264/MPEG4 AVC video'
and set conversion settings to
Video: (Manually enter!) Video Size 800x480,
Note: If You enter for example 576x432 instead 800x480, there will be no sound on your HTC, only video. Don't ask me why, it's the same thing that happens to lots of people with many different encoders and it has something to do with AAC settings detailed, which will also change, when you change video settings....but I am not enough in to hardcore encoding, to understand what is the reason, I only know that this problem appears to be very common when converting for Rhodium with different software....
Bitrate 256K, Frame rate 25FPS(should be same as sub file FPS!)
Audio:Mpeg-4 AAC, 44100, 128K
Now You should set/add Subtitles:
Go to: Edit/effect/Subtitles. (Note: only Ultimate version of Imtoo!)
Add Sub if not already there, and set font to Arial, Style to Bold and Size to 22 (or smaller if You prefer)
Convert the movie and transfer it to Your Touch pro2
That's it!
Enjoy playing Your file on HTC.
Final Output size of the file is not the same as stated Output Size, nor it is the Bitrate. Imtoo bug I guess...But File plays smoothly enough at least for my taste.
Try and let me know how it works for You!
What i do is open you tube in chrome and i already have chrome extension installed on chrome.http://www.chromeextensions.org/music-videos-photos/chrome-youtube-downloader/. So when i play video i get options to save video in all the available formats and the Mp4 video i get is usually 20mb or 25 mb (sometimes less than that) in best quality.
Other thing you can do is go to this site http://keep-tube.com/ and downlaod video in MP4 format in great quality.
I think the best option is chrome extension because you get best quality video/audio with less size
Give it a try.
I don't know why you do this, just download core player
I watch LOST season 6 on my phone just download jackos s2 rom and disable manila for better performance
I use Pocket Divx Encoder to make xvid files of my favorite videos and then play them with CorePlayer using the QTV setting for best quality.
I use DivX Player. It was made for QVGA but works just fine on TP2, just the menus & fonts are small. It'll play DivX encoded AVI's that must DVDRips are.

[Q] DRM video playback

Now...I'm sure that this is due to HC and not the TF itself, but I have to ask: does anyone know if DRM videos (i.e. digital copies w/Blu-Ray discs) can be (or will be available in the future) played on the TF?
As it is I am ripping the DVDs (not Blu-Rays) as MP4s, but it would take me a lot less time if I could just port over the DRM digital copies. (I don't have a DRM remover.)
(And since I already brought up the format, what's the best format to playback? It seems MP4 is the favorite, but I'm also seeing other formats mentioned...like MKV.)
Video's with DRM (Like one's downloaded from iTunes) can't be played on any device that doesn't support that DRM. The digital copies I think are better quality then ripping and converting DVD's. Best way is to find a program that strips the DRM off, just dig around the net some, your sure to find some. Most one's I've done usually take a couple of minutes to strip the DRM, so its alot faster then converting as well.
Regardless of whether the files have DRM, personally I much prefer ripping/converting all of my videos with Handbrake first, as it gives me the option to adjust the quality for the purpose of saving space. Whichever application you choose for removing the DRM depends on what DRM scheme is being used by the source video, as applications like Handbrake won't recognize all formats.
As far as output formats go, mp4/m4v are the preferred containers since they are recognized natively by the Android OS. While it offers more options, such as embedding subtitles and multiple audio/video tracks, the mkv container requires a third party video player to work properly. My personal preference is to use Dice Player, which offers full support for both containers. Be aware, too, that mp4 and mkv can be encoded with your choice of several different audio and video codecs (AAC, mp3, ogg, x264, MPEG-2, etc.), which will also affect whether or not the videos will play in your preferred player. Always check the supported formats of your video player before converting.

RockChip RK3066, videoView, MKV and subtitles

Hi folks, this is a very specific question but I'm just not able to find any kind of answer...
We are developing an app that can stream movie files over a network and play them progressively (as many other players do like MXPlayer, etc). This will be used for a hotel PPV system and will be run on those Android HDMI sticks with RockChip RK3066 systems.
The client's requirement is to have the video files encoded in MKV format, with several audio and subtitle tracks to cater for international guests. And the video player must be integrated, cannot rely on an external player.
So, we looked to vitamio, which is a multimedia library that can handle MKVs with subtitles... But performance is horrible, juddery playback, cannot use HW acceleration, etc
But, we then found that the videoView that comes with the device, is able to handle MKVs, plays smoothly up to 720p resolutions, AND shows the subtitles. Since stock android videoView does not do this, I can only assume Rockchip has supplied a modified version.
Unfortunately, we are not able to find any documentation on how to list available audio and subtitle tracks, and how to select different ones.
So, tl;dr; version: does anyone know how to get this videoView to change subtitle and language tracks?
Many thanks,
Thomas

[Q] Nexus Player Supported Formats

Has anyone found what the supported media formats are for the Nexus Player?
I found the following information below when I search for ChromeCast, but could not find the equivalent for the Nexus Player.
From developers (dot) google (dot) com / cast / docs / media
Supported Media for Google Cast:
Streaming protocols
MP4
WebM
Video codecs
H.264 High Profile Level 4.1, 4.2 and 5
VP8
Audio decoding
HE-AAC
LC-AAC
CELT/Opus
MP3
Vorbis
Wav (audio/wav)
Audio passthrough
AC-3
Good question. I couldn't find any information on this either. One thing I'm going to try tonight is the Antutu Video Tester app. It downloads a video pack of dozens of different codecs and tests playback ability as well as the quality of playback. Should be interesting.
I can say from experience that when running XBMC I've been able to play video_ts folders (DVD rips) and MKV.. The only issue I ran into with video_ts folders was that it took upwards of 10 seconds to start play, and sometimes up to 30-40 seconds to return to the movie list when hitting stop.. MKV play without a hitch and are very snappy.
Hope this helps.
You can add VP9 and H265 to this as per asus site:
https://www.asus.com/ca-en/News/hSqRBkE3JWcSw1zC
Very good news as I use WebM extensively with my current Chromecast and Vorbis audio. Will be nice to use VP9!
I'm really getting tired of seeing so many articles claim that the Nexus Player can use VP9. Maybe it technically can, but it effectively never does, especially not on YouTube where it's needed most and makes the most sense. Anyone know how to force vp9 in the YouTube app?
