[Q] [i9505] data connection on 2g (edge) only, 3g and lte doesn't work at all - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I upgraded my plan to one which includes LTE data transfer. When I turn on mobile data connection (with data roaming allowed) phone connects only to 2G EDGE network. There is no way to connect with 3G/HSPDA/LTE despite good signal and proper settings (preffered network type, apns etc). I've tried:
- few different modems/radios: XXUHOB7, XXUHOB8, XXUGNG8,
- few roms: stock 4.4.2 I9505XXUGNG8_I9505YXZGNH2_XEO, CyanogenMod 12, CyanogenMod 11, I9505_-_Official_Google_Edition_5.0.0_by_Jamal2367_Stable-R2.1 and JFLTE-GPE-20150315
With no luck. I didn't used data connection a lot before so I can't say when the problem started to occuring. I tested my SIM card on different phone and LTE connection works... I attached screenshot from "Advanced Signal Status"
Do you have any ideas how to solve this issue?
Thanks!

same error here!
any solution??

It really depends on what bands your carrier is using. For example, in romania, we have a carrier (digi mobil) that has 4g signal only on the tdd 38 2600mhz band, a band that our phone (i9505), doesn't support.
You should look into your carrier bands, get info on what bands are they currently using and then see if they coincide with the bands that your phone supports. What variant do you have and on what carrier are you on?

Is your phone showing the correct imei?

How do i know if my imei is "correct"? I checked my imei and i inserted it in a site and i found the specifications of my phone as they should be, but my 3g and 4g are completely dead.

Does the imei in the phone match the imei on the label under the battery?

OnePlus Two - HSPA+ and 3G Data Connection Problem

Hi Everyone,
I'm usually just a reader on XDA, but I have found a problem that appears not to have been solved and wondered if anyone had any insight.
Problem Summary
When in an area (or network) with only HSPA and UMTS (strong HSPA/UMTS signal, but with no LTE or 2G available), the phone will drop from H+ to 3G erratically, always dropping the data connection. Traditional phone calls are not affected.
Detailed Description
I have a OnePlus Two and have 2 SIM cards. My first SIM Card is with Bell Canada (Virgin), and the second SIM Card is with WIND Mobile Canada.
Neither Bell nor WIND operate a 2G network, so the lowest the service can fall to is UMTS/3G.
Initially, I didn't notice the problem because Bell also operates an LTE network, and there is no problem with dropping the data connections when on LTE.
When I switched to the WIND SIM card (which only operates HSPA and UMTS), I noticed a problem where the phone would initially connect to H+, begin downloading whatever is needed (say, streaming music), but then part way through the download, the connection would switch to 3G, and the data would effectively stop. Within a minute, the service would jump back to H+ and download some more, but this cycle would continue (H+ --> 3G --> H+ --> 3G... ), with no way of knowing 1) how long the H+ connection would last before dropping to 3G (usually less than 30 seconds), and 2) after dropping to 3G, how long before going back to H+. This problem makes the phone almost useless when there is no LTE.
The most obvious troubleshooting I did was move to locations of better signal but I quickly ruled that out, as nothing seems to remove this problem. Other things I tried was to: move locations in the city, reboot phone, hard reset phone, flash most updated version of Oxygen, unlock bootloader, root, try the HSPA Keepalive app, swap SIM1 to SIM2, and many other things.
I originally thought this was a network issue, but I put this WIND SIM in another phone and there was no problem in any way that resembled this problem.
I also ruled out this being a network-specific problem, as I have taken a trip with the Bell SIM to an area where Bell does not have any LTE coverage (only HSPA and UMTS) and the same problem occurs on Bell as with the WIND SIM.
I have found people who had this problem on the OnePlus One tend to recommend using 2G to stabilize the connection, but this is not possible on Bell or WIND. That solution also would not provide adequate data speeds.
Remember this problem only affects data connectivity, as 3G traditional phone calls have no problems.
Question
Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the conditions when the OnePlus Two will choose to switch from H+ to 3G?
Does anyone have any easier suggestions?
Thank you all in advance, because this rendering this phone almost useless when there is no LTE coverage.
I believe your problem is that phone it's dualsim standby, that means only one modem that alternates signal for both sims, I think normal would be alternating from faster network to slower network on sim without data.
Having to change to g3 between sims theres something stoped in the modem and data connection is also stopped.
You have no problem with voice calls because other sim is automatically turned off and unreachable.
There's nothing you can do if you're forced to only 3g on both sims
By 3g I mean 3g or h+ which to my knowledge are the same
Hope I was helpful and not wrong or more confusing

Thanks, I will try disabling the second SIM to see if there is a bug with the dual-sim...
What it currently does with the second SIM is it either shows "R" for roaming or just emergency only, but perhaps there is a software issue so I'll see if disabling the second SIM makes a difference.

Though strange, this workaround fixes the issue. Thank you to fburgos for the suggestion!
So just in case anyone ever finds this issue creeps up on them, the solution is to DISABLE the SIM you are not using. It's not the most convenient workaround to swap SIMs, but the other SIM will be in Emergency Mode, so it really makes no functional difference.
On the technical side, it does appear that there is actually a bug in Android for a very uncommon network configuration. It will only appear in this exact configuration:
SIM1: Network has HSPA/3G only, no LTE or 2G to move to
SIM2: Network also only has HSPA/3G with no LTE or 2G
The non-data SIM does NOT connect to a roaming network (connects with "Emergency Only") - if it connects to a roaming 2G network, this problem does not happen.
The data SIM connects to HSPA/3G
Both SIMs are active
I'm not sure if this will happen anywhere else in the world other than having a WIND Mobile Canada SIM and Bell or TELUS Canada SIM
If anyone has insight on how to report this to Google, or someone else who can confirm my theory, that would be great!
Try this:
1. You need to make sure you have the correct LTE APN selected in mobile networks and LTE as preferred type.
2. Go to dialer and type in this: *#*#4636#*#*
3. Phone Information
4. Set Preferred Network Type to: LTE/GSM (PRL) - you an play with which one you wanna use but the one I said works for sure. on other roms I have" TD-SCDMA, GSM/WCDMA and LTE"
5. Now click TURN OFF RADIO and wait WAIT few secs. will that button turns to Turn Radio ON
6. Now TURN ON RADIO and wait
7. when u see the triangle for the signal is back, at least black , go down and lick SMSC REFRESH then UPDATE.
8. now just go back to APN settings and go into your LTE APN
9. Change Bearer to LTE

I have the same problem. Do you already have solved it?
I use only one SIM card so it is not a problem two cards.
really you do not have this problem? if no one knows the solution?
compared with my htc butterfly 2 and another low-end android, one plus 2 running latest Oxygen OS has serious connectivity issues. I compared the signals strength using same sim card in same location (including being connected to the same tower) and One Plus 2 keeps dropping the connection and has really poor signal strength. I have tried the *#*#4636#*#* and tried different network modes, but none of them are helping. Its a real disappointment that the basic feature of this phone is screwed up.
I have tried with CM13 as well. Any ideas if this is a modem version issue?

No 4G/LTE with SM-G935FD

I have a new SM-G935FD purchased in the UAE. The software version is MMB29K.G935FXXU1APD1. The phone has a "United Arab Emirates" section in the About page.
I travel a lot. I generally use a local SIM when I am in a country for some time. Right now I am in France. I am using a SIM from Bouygues Telecom but I have no 4G/LTE service at all. The phone is connecting at H+ and also at 3G, but it is not showing 4G/LTE at all.
I will be in several other European countries as well as the US soon. I specifically purchased this phone because it has all the LTE bands for the countries I spend time in. This same SIM does give me LTE connections on Bouygues when I use it in my old phone (a Motorola X 2nd Gen). I had expected this phone to just work on LTE everywhere that I typically go.
I have looked through these forums and see a thread or two about others with LTE problems. But no clear solutions.
I have tried various apps such as LTE Discovery (no luck) as well as 4G LTE Switcher - using that if I set "LTE only", I get no service at all, and then have to reboot the phone before I get service back.
Is there something I need to do to get LTE?
Thanks.
Have you put the SIM in the correct slot?

Yes, the bottom slot. The SDcard is in the top slot. The SIM is showing in the phone as "SIM1".
Strange. I have a G935FD and it works with LTE no problems. I've used it in Singapore and Indonesia, with different SIMs and all work.
In Settings - Mobile Networks - Network Mode, it's set to LTE/3G/2G?

Yes it is. I've tried changing to one of the non-LTE modes and back, but no change.
In the About device / Status / SIM Card status page, I see Mobile network type as UTMS. Shouldn't that have LTE and, if so, how do I change it?
Mine says the same, but I'm only connected to 3G at the moment, so I don't know if it's normal it not. I have a 4G card in, but I'm out of my area's 4G network range.
Edit: Actually I was connected to my wifi. Now I'm connected to my 3G and it says HSPA+ now
Edit again: Ok, so my phone is jumping between 3G and H+, which is what's changing.

Ah, mine is doing the same. I see Mobile network type jumping between UMTS and HSPA+ if I watch for a while. Obviously that field is a status field, not a setting field.
Thing is, I am in an area with full LTE coverage.
At least you seem to be confirming that this should work. Still need to figure out what the problem is.
I have the same Problem in Spain. With a Vodafone Card I dont have 4G Connection (The same card in a the Galaxy S5 of my wife works with 4G). But with a Yoigo Card I have 4G Connection. The software version is MMB29K.G935FXXU1BPH6. The phone has a "United Arab Emirates" section in the About page too. Any Idea?

Samsung A500h Only Gsm No 3g, No signal connection with 3g

There is no probelem with gsm but when i choose 3g, there is no connection .Setting it to 'WCDMA only' results in the same 'no parking' icon and no data. i changed my sim card, i choose my network provider manually, upgreade the phone with latest android version (6.0.1- Marsmallow),apn setting ok, but result is same gsm/edge. i also tried simcard with another phone and 3g is worked.
what can i do? i need help to fix this problem.

910C LTE and 2G works, but no WCDMA

So the thing is, a month ago my note 4(6.0.1) for some reason stopped working in 3G or 4G.
Things I've done in order to fix it:
- factory reset
- updated to the latest baseband
- changed sim-card to latest possible
- changed carrier
So right now I'm using a different carrier and have 4G and 2G, but when I switch to 3G, for some reason I can't use internet at all.
Is there a possible fix for this issue? Can this be a hardware problem, considering that 4G and 2G are still fully working?
Also, during 3G usage I've checked service mode menu and it says GMM State: Limited Service.
When I use 4G or 2G, it doesn't show this.
What can this possibly mean?
thanks

Weak network signal on my note 4 n910c

I'm using an Lte sim, my area is covered with Lte network. When using stock rom and other custom rom it only have auto connect Lte/3g option, everytime i turn on mobile data it only connects to h+. Now i'm on nemesis rom, it has "Lte only" option but it can't find Lte signal/data. Already tried my Lte sim to other Lte device and it connects to Lte signal/data. What seems to be the problem with my device? Anyway to fixed this?
