No 4G/LTE with SM-G935FD - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have a new SM-G935FD purchased in the UAE. The software version is MMB29K.G935FXXU1APD1. The phone has a "United Arab Emirates" section in the About page.
I travel a lot. I generally use a local SIM when I am in a country for some time. Right now I am in France. I am using a SIM from Bouygues Telecom but I have no 4G/LTE service at all. The phone is connecting at H+ and also at 3G, but it is not showing 4G/LTE at all.
I will be in several other European countries as well as the US soon. I specifically purchased this phone because it has all the LTE bands for the countries I spend time in. This same SIM does give me LTE connections on Bouygues when I use it in my old phone (a Motorola X 2nd Gen). I had expected this phone to just work on LTE everywhere that I typically go.
I have looked through these forums and see a thread or two about others with LTE problems. But no clear solutions.
I have tried various apps such as LTE Discovery (no luck) as well as 4G LTE Switcher - using that if I set "LTE only", I get no service at all, and then have to reboot the phone before I get service back.
Is there something I need to do to get LTE?
Thanks.

Have you put the SIM in the correct slot?

Yes, the bottom slot. The SDcard is in the top slot. The SIM is showing in the phone as "SIM1".

Strange. I have a G935FD and it works with LTE no problems. I've used it in Singapore and Indonesia, with different SIMs and all work.
In Settings - Mobile Networks - Network Mode, it's set to LTE/3G/2G?

Yes it is. I've tried changing to one of the non-LTE modes and back, but no change.
In the About device / Status / SIM Card status page, I see Mobile network type as UTMS. Shouldn't that have LTE and, if so, how do I change it?

Mine says the same, but I'm only connected to 3G at the moment, so I don't know if it's normal it not. I have a 4G card in, but I'm out of my area's 4G network range.
Edit: Actually I was connected to my wifi. Now I'm connected to my 3G and it says HSPA+ now
Edit again: Ok, so my phone is jumping between 3G and H+, which is what's changing.

Ah, mine is doing the same. I see Mobile network type jumping between UMTS and HSPA+ if I watch for a while. Obviously that field is a status field, not a setting field.
Thing is, I am in an area with full LTE coverage.
At least you seem to be confirming that this should work. Still need to figure out what the problem is.

I have the same Problem in Spain. With a Vodafone Card I dont have 4G Connection (The same card in a the Galaxy S5 of my wife works with 4G). But with a Yoigo Card I have 4G Connection. The software version is MMB29K.G935FXXU1BPH6. The phone has a "United Arab Emirates" section in the About page too. Any Idea?

[Q] SM900F Baseband Question/Problems

Hello ,
I bought a SM900F from UK a while ago and it was unlocked. I was capable of using 4G network there easily with no problems, but recently I have come to Dubai and am not able to hop on the 4G network . I have checked all the settings and made sure I had the 4G sim/ 4G data bundle and so on , but still same problem.
As per Wiki : Etisalat United Arab Emirates 1800 3 FDD September 2011 [500]
Etisalat United Arab Emirates 2600 7 FDD September 2011 [520]
My operator provides 4G on 1800 and 2600 Frequencies which are supported by SM900F. Just to clarify , this unit had never been locked .
So now im sitting here confused on what I need to do to get my 4G working , Im always connected to H and H+ .
Thanks in Advance ,
Nylem
Try to ask operator to give you his APN settings!
Settings - more networks - mobile networks - ap
Thanks for the reply ,
I have done that but still no hope

Your phone should support those LTE bands.
Confirm that the band /frequency information isn't outdated.
Are you in an area where the carrier doesn't have LTE coverage?
Open a support ticket to investigate if the carrier has provisioned your account /SIM correctly for LTE.
Look at the various online forums and find out if others are getting LTE in your location.
Set what the LTE signal strength is in the S5 service menu.
Set a preference for LTE in the service menu.
Possibly you are getting 4G, bit the onscreen icon is just incorrect?
Try updating or changing your 900F modem.

Thanks for the swift response mate ,
1) Band/Frequency are all compatible with the phone
2) The whole city is LTE covered ( specially mine that I live in the center ) .
3) Already working on a ticket with the carrier , but they say problem is from my side
1) I set the LTE Signal , Lost all connection
2) I put bearer as LTE , Lost all connection
3) Could be a possibility
Can you kindly forward me or show me the path to where I can change my 900F modem to a more international one , Thanks a bunch !

Something is probably misconfigured or misprovisioned. But regardless, the issue will only be solved by paying attention to details and a process of elimination (of the possible causes).
The most productive single thing that you could do at this point would be to borrow a known working LTE SIM from a neighbour and see if works in your handset. Whatever the result, it would narrow down the possible culprits.
Also, don't assume that the frequencies are correct. Confirm with the carrier that they haven't changed or added new LTE bands.
Make the effort to find out what forums your carriers' customers usually frequent and look at recent posts there for seredipitious insights that you won't find elsewhere.
Don't dismiss the icon idea out of hand. Are your speeds indicative of an LTE connection?
You don't need a more "international" modem. Just a more current 900F one. Or less commonly, an alternate or older modem if your current one has a bug. Do a forum search for threads about changing modems. There are a lot of them. Don't fixate on this - it's one of the least likely possibilities.
Also consider updating to Android 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 which is said to address some connectivity bugs.

OnePlus Two - HSPA+ and 3G Data Connection Problem

Hi Everyone,
I'm usually just a reader on XDA, but I have found a problem that appears not to have been solved and wondered if anyone had any insight.
Problem Summary
When in an area (or network) with only HSPA and UMTS (strong HSPA/UMTS signal, but with no LTE or 2G available), the phone will drop from H+ to 3G erratically, always dropping the data connection. Traditional phone calls are not affected.
Detailed Description
I have a OnePlus Two and have 2 SIM cards. My first SIM Card is with Bell Canada (Virgin), and the second SIM Card is with WIND Mobile Canada.
Neither Bell nor WIND operate a 2G network, so the lowest the service can fall to is UMTS/3G.
Initially, I didn't notice the problem because Bell also operates an LTE network, and there is no problem with dropping the data connections when on LTE.
When I switched to the WIND SIM card (which only operates HSPA and UMTS), I noticed a problem where the phone would initially connect to H+, begin downloading whatever is needed (say, streaming music), but then part way through the download, the connection would switch to 3G, and the data would effectively stop. Within a minute, the service would jump back to H+ and download some more, but this cycle would continue (H+ --> 3G --> H+ --> 3G... ), with no way of knowing 1) how long the H+ connection would last before dropping to 3G (usually less than 30 seconds), and 2) after dropping to 3G, how long before going back to H+. This problem makes the phone almost useless when there is no LTE.
The most obvious troubleshooting I did was move to locations of better signal but I quickly ruled that out, as nothing seems to remove this problem. Other things I tried was to: move locations in the city, reboot phone, hard reset phone, flash most updated version of Oxygen, unlock bootloader, root, try the HSPA Keepalive app, swap SIM1 to SIM2, and many other things.
I originally thought this was a network issue, but I put this WIND SIM in another phone and there was no problem in any way that resembled this problem.
I also ruled out this being a network-specific problem, as I have taken a trip with the Bell SIM to an area where Bell does not have any LTE coverage (only HSPA and UMTS) and the same problem occurs on Bell as with the WIND SIM.
I have found people who had this problem on the OnePlus One tend to recommend using 2G to stabilize the connection, but this is not possible on Bell or WIND. That solution also would not provide adequate data speeds.
Remember this problem only affects data connectivity, as 3G traditional phone calls have no problems.
Question
Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the conditions when the OnePlus Two will choose to switch from H+ to 3G?
Does anyone have any easier suggestions?
Thank you all in advance, because this rendering this phone almost useless when there is no LTE coverage.
I believe your problem is that phone it's dualsim standby, that means only one modem that alternates signal for both sims, I think normal would be alternating from faster network to slower network on sim without data.
Having to change to g3 between sims theres something stoped in the modem and data connection is also stopped.
You have no problem with voice calls because other sim is automatically turned off and unreachable.
There's nothing you can do if you're forced to only 3g on both sims
By 3g I mean 3g or h+ which to my knowledge are the same
Hope I was helpful and not wrong or more confusing

Thanks, I will try disabling the second SIM to see if there is a bug with the dual-sim...
What it currently does with the second SIM is it either shows "R" for roaming or just emergency only, but perhaps there is a software issue so I'll see if disabling the second SIM makes a difference.

Though strange, this workaround fixes the issue. Thank you to fburgos for the suggestion!
So just in case anyone ever finds this issue creeps up on them, the solution is to DISABLE the SIM you are not using. It's not the most convenient workaround to swap SIMs, but the other SIM will be in Emergency Mode, so it really makes no functional difference.
On the technical side, it does appear that there is actually a bug in Android for a very uncommon network configuration. It will only appear in this exact configuration:
SIM1: Network has HSPA/3G only, no LTE or 2G to move to
SIM2: Network also only has HSPA/3G with no LTE or 2G
The non-data SIM does NOT connect to a roaming network (connects with "Emergency Only") - if it connects to a roaming 2G network, this problem does not happen.
The data SIM connects to HSPA/3G
Both SIMs are active
I'm not sure if this will happen anywhere else in the world other than having a WIND Mobile Canada SIM and Bell or TELUS Canada SIM
If anyone has insight on how to report this to Google, or someone else who can confirm my theory, that would be great!
Try this:
1. You need to make sure you have the correct LTE APN selected in mobile networks and LTE as preferred type.
2. Go to dialer and type in this: *#*#4636#*#*
3. Phone Information
4. Set Preferred Network Type to: LTE/GSM (PRL) - you an play with which one you wanna use but the one I said works for sure. on other roms I have" TD-SCDMA, GSM/WCDMA and LTE"
5. Now click TURN OFF RADIO and wait WAIT few secs. will that button turns to Turn Radio ON
6. Now TURN ON RADIO and wait
7. when u see the triangle for the signal is back, at least black , go down and lick SMSC REFRESH then UPDATE.
8. now just go back to APN settings and go into your LTE APN
9. Change Bearer to LTE

I have the same problem. Do you already have solved it?
I use only one SIM card so it is not a problem two cards.
really you do not have this problem? if no one knows the solution?
compared with my htc butterfly 2 and another low-end android, one plus 2 running latest Oxygen OS has serious connectivity issues. I compared the signals strength using same sim card in same location (including being connected to the same tower) and One Plus 2 keeps dropping the connection and has really poor signal strength. I have tried the *#*#4636#*#* and tried different network modes, but none of them are helping. Its a real disappointment that the basic feature of this phone is screwed up.
I have tried with CM13 as well. Any ideas if this is a modem version issue?

Problem with 4G signal @ Dutch vodafone 800, 1800, 2600 MHz

Hello,
I have the following problem: I can't get a 4G signal with my provider.
Vodafone Netherlands uses 800, 1800, 2600 MHz for 4G connection.
I have bought my telephone at flosmall . com
It should work, or do I forget something?
Can somebody explain this?
I had the same.
I tried some 4g signals apps to check my connection. This one seemed to fix it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mcstealthapps3.networksignalsearch
Let me know if it worked for you!
I have trieded with the app but nothing changed.
But still on 3G...
I need to ask this.
Is your SIM card even 4G capable? If its older than 3-4 years it might not be.
I don't know anything about vodafone, but try googling, for one of my providers I actually needed to activate 4G on their website after logging in to my account.
Also. Settings -> Dual SIM & mobile networks. Is network mode set to 4G priority and Celluar data to correct SIM card if you are using dual setup.
Yes the sim card is capable with 4G (was using it on Lumia 950XL).
Have contacted Vodafone about the problem.
But the will only support devices that Vodafone Netherlands will be sell.
Have tried to flash lineage rom, but nothing change about the signal.
(stock Rom was from groschopp)
I also have a Le Pro 3 (x720) on the same network in the Netherlands and I have no issues with 4g.
I am currently using the Grossoshop-Rom (Build-number WAXCNFN5902011181S).
You can download several signal apps in the play-store to see if Band 20 is available to you, this is the one used in my region for 4g Vodafone.
I assume you set the preferred network type to 4G?
It's working now
Have called Vodafone again for some extra information about the frequency band for 4G.
But nobody could help me, there was one person that say i can give you a other simcard type maybe it will help. (I say how will it help if 4G works on a other phone with the same sim card, but let's just test it)
Afterwards the call, visited the shop for a other sim card
Doing the sim in slot 1 nothing changed, same 3G signal.
Was thinking this the last try and do the sim card in slot 2 and after 10 minutes i have LTE signal.
Trying slot 1 again but only 3G. changed back to slot 2 and solved.
Have earlier check slot 2 with me "older" sim card and only 3G was showing up.
I have noticed stock ROMs have better signals than say CM

Are you on a custom ROM? Maybe it did something to the modem. If so, you need to return to a stock ROM and try.
The phone has all the bands it needs to work on your carrier, and my carrier as well. My SIM already had the APN settings for my carrier on it, and I connected to LTE right away on my x722. I'm on a vendor ROM, which is pretty much just stock eUI. I can't fathom why it doesn't work for you if you're still on stock. Have you tried the SIM in other phones?
I also have this problem in Romania with my LeECO Le Pro3, but with Orange 800,1800 and 2600Mhz. The only solution for this problem was to manualy search and select the 4G operator network. Although in settings/network operator it was on 4G/3G/2G(Auto) by default, my phone was stuck in H+/H/3G until i manualy search and select 4G. If you are sure your SIM is 4G and you have the corect APN you can try this but you will have to search and select for several times manualy to work. I find this solution very uncomfortable because every time you restart your phone or put it in airplain mode, you will have to repeat manual searches and register in 4G.
my x720 doesn't have the correct bands active. i activated them with qpst but only actived and running in sim2 (sim 1 actived but no gain lte signal)
ah! i'm on 20s

Hello, I have problem with 4G, with Android 8.1
When I back Android 8.1 I have 4G Signal.
---------- Post added at 09:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ----------
Hi, after I install All Android custom 8.1
I try install android 7.1 (AICP 12.1) I have LTE Signal
When I back Android 8.1 and select Only LTE, I don't have any signal (4g,3g etcc) I have chage to "Global" and I have H+ signal

Any way to get 4G/LTE, Please Help!

Hi everyone. I have a Leeco Pro 3 X727. I am on Firmware 20s I am having issues to get 4G/LTE signal.
First thing, In my City there is 4G signal, even a couple a days ago I went to my carrier and change my Sim for the newset, just in case.
The last Rom where I had LTE signal IICR was AEX5.4 around May's days. After I changed to CDroid, then to DotsOS... Whatever all I can get its H+ signal. Couple a days ago I change to Carbon Rom 6.1 (Oreos) and the first install, in the configuration I get LTE, but after change to Wifi for finish install all apps, I cant get LTE again. I flashed back Dots, Cdroid and I am now and AEX5.7 and I I have the same issue, just 3G/H+, not LTE or 4G. Also, after flashing firmware 20S I get LTE signal for a While so I think that is not the problem...
I tried almost all APN setting and Nothing. Chang Rom, change Recovery, change Kernel... Nothing just 3g/H+.... My friends with same Carrier have LTE signal...
So, is there anything I can do...? Flash any app, setting?
Help please.

Only use the X7272 5.8.20s firmware - Then you should be able to get it with the correct APN and setting
Don't choose Global, you want the LTE/GSM/UMTS/CDMA setting. If you are still having issues, use the program LTE Discovery or Network Guru.
There are Magsisk
What network are you trying to connect to? What country are you in?

Nothing. Still "Orange 3G" and conexión icon show H+.
Honestly, I'd say something is wrong with your phone or wrong with your cell towers. The only LTE Band that Orange/Altice supports in DR is B3 (sorta strange that there's only one band, but for a relatively small country I suppose it doesn't matter) and the LEX727 and LEX720 both have band 3, as well as the only GSM(3g)/UMTS(4g) bands that Orange/Altice supports (that being GSM:1800/1900 and UMTS B8 (900GSM)) At first my assumption was that Orange/Altice was a CDMA network, but as far as I can see, there are no CDMA networks in DR!
Edit: download the speedtest app, and see if you're getting the same speeds as a phone that shows it's connected to LTE. If you are, there's no issue besides the phone reporting the connection wrong. If you're slower, though...

Oh! I think I know the issue! When I looked at Orange's website (trying to find network specs, which strangely for a network that supports BYOD, they don't have listed, or at least I couldn't find it) I saw that they have subscribers pay for data, as is standard practice in the US (where I live). But the thing that caught my eye is that you also pay for speed.
So... Let me take a guess here. You pay either RD$1499 Or RD$1349 for their 5mbps unlimited plan?
Basically, my assumption is that if you're paying for one of their lower speed tiers, they put you on a 4g or 3g network to save LTE bandwidth for the people who pay more than you.
Tell me if any of this sounds familiar... I feel like I may've found your problem!

Mmmmm suspect ... actually I have an even lower plan, RD $ 580 (USD$12) and I only use the data when I buy additional packages ... Most times I use Wi-Fi and just use Data when I am not at home/job and the 3G its veeeery looooow speed... Thank bro, that could be the problem.

I can't use 3G/4G in my On5 G550T2, it's only using 2G

Whenever I switch to 3G only, my SIM Card signals go down and when I search for network operators, none of the operators are found. I'm living in Pakistan and my area is 3G/4G granted and my SIM Card is also 3G/4G but whenever I keep it to Auto, my signals come back and my phone runs 2G or E instead of 3G. It used to run 3G before but when I installed the latest firmware on my device using Odin, it never switches or finds 3G operators or network. I didn't remember the version of the old firmware installed. Can anyone help me?
I have searched the whole internet but none of the fixes are working.

What firmware did you flash in Odin? Was it the latest firmware for the g550t2 and for your country?
