[Q] Newly updated lollipop low benchmark result - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I just recently updated my note 4 N910C to lollipop, and I Tested it to see its benchmark score on Antitumor, but I'm really disappointed to see that it scored a total of 38738. Its even low than galaxy s5. Whats wrong?

Does your device perform slow? No?Why the **** do you care about useless benchmarks....your device got a lower score than the S5 so what?Numbers don't equal performance...try doing a ful wipe if you already didn't...
There are already threads about this and you don''t care to search the forum before posting the same thread?

Woah dude, chill , dont be so pissed if you got to see a same thread on the forum lol

Nah..I'm not pissed lol...sorry if I sounded like that it's just that those benchmarks are useless.Judge the device by the way you see how it performs in everyday use not by a number you got from a benchmark app...and also as I mentioned there are already threads about this so use the search function

Your note 4 shipped with 4.4. Its built for 4.4. Use 4.4
The rampant lust for updates, and the subsequent disappointment that follows is draining

I don't have any problem with the 5.0.1 in Note 4. I'm coming from Galaxy S5 and there is no way the Note 4 is performing worse than the S5. Its way faster.
I agree that benchmark points is useless and says little about the performance of the device.

Man i have the same problem here it seems that the phone is always in power saving mode and the gpu is limited to 350 mhz instead of 700 mhz. Also the cpu runs at 1.3 ghz instead of 1.9 for the big cores thats why it has low score in antutu hope somebody figures out a solution and also this is a bug in this update

meh
You guys are just being paranoid, I even noticed that it got faster after the lollipop update, I would never care for benchmark numbers as long as I am satisfied with the performance in real world, benchmarks can be influenced by many factors and I barely trust them (and ofc I am talking about Android benchmarks)
Edit: I just tried running a benchmark in Antutu and got 37940, ran it again and guess what? I got 44304, how can I trust this? LOL (I knew it would be way different from a benchmark to another, as it used to happen with me on my old HTC One X, since then I never trust these benchmarks). Just enjoy your phone and stop looking for non-existent problems.

enable power saving mode and turn off cpu limit then turn off power saving mode back
go to developer option and reduce the animation to .5 sec

I tried all above, but still get 37K score. most degradation is in 3D graphics. Also in UX and single thread CPU.
Still can not understand why it happens.

I did the same thing nothing changed

Of course not, we expected the score to be at least the same !
Except the score you can notice that fps has dropped in games.
It also has some problems definitely, I have hangouts crashing several times a day.
UX runtime is much lower in my case also.

Benchmark scores are 100% useless.

no they are not useless and I can see that on practice, performance has slowed down just like benchmark scores got lower.
Benchmark can precisely tell and measure the performance, that's it's purpose. In my case I can feel the difference not only in benchmark scores bat in practice also.

Same for me. Tried fresh wipe, re-odin, etc

Benchmarks are 100% useful and in the fact the performance has gotten worse on the beastly note 4 it feels same as note 3 is that even called update anymore. The frames per second for big games is just arownd 20 fps its very disapointinf

Thats odd. Mine turned out much lower than usual:
I read the other day that Samsung use higher clock speeds with benchmark apps, higher than the phone runs normally, which in my eyes means benchmarks on these phones means jack squat! I was going to buy the S4 Mini but because of this I have lost faith in Samsung and have just ordered the HTC Mini. Will post the link when I get back home with what I read.

rofl. If you would read more about this topic, you would find out, that samsung isn't the only one doing this. But I don't see the problem, because first of all I don't really care about benchmarks and secondly I think the purpose of a benchmark is to test the phone on the highest settings.

Maybe others do, but its not right. I use benchmarks when purchasing a phone, so do some others and companies know this, why else would they ramp up scores? And fine if they want to show off their highest settings, but not if these high settings dont actually run for more than 10 minutes before frying your phone. These aren't real world stats which is what they should be showing. I mean who are these high settings benchmarks ment to be for if not everyday users? Personally I think its a scam and ANY company that goes by these rules is shameful...

I can't really understand this whine about specific settings on benchmarks?! People who want the highest score disable everything, use the highest settings, overclock, use fresh install, delete all useless apps etc. Clearly these newbie phone benchmarkers have never done pc benchmarks. And if someone buys a phone because of it's benchmark score then clearly those don't have any idea about real life usage vs benchmarking.

I myself have done many benchmarks both on PC and mobile phones and I myself use the scores I get and compare it against it's physical aspects. Everyone has their own way of buying a phone and you can't judge people for the way they do stuff.

A benchmark is not a good reason to buy a phone, I think you are a fanboy trolling
features man that's the real deal, battery life, network, camera, memory, screen, style construction, etc.
not only a benchmark if you want the best bench score buy the full one not the mini
Sent from my GT-I9192 using Tapatalk
Benchmarks mean something to me as well. They aren't guidelines to what phone I should choose, but the specifics can give me a good judgement for the aspect I'm intending to improve when upgrading my phone. I had an s3 mini before this and was disappointed by battery life versus performance. I could tell the difference by taking multiple benchmarks at different times during everyday use. I noticed when phones/ROMs have widely varying benchmarks then the battery life and performance would dwindle. The s3 mini on most ROMs would vary by approx 2000 points, and that's a lot.
It's worth noting that a custom ROM can affect the stability of a phones functioning a lot, but it is mostly due to the hardware used when a phone/computer has dwindling performance. The s4 mini for me, has had fairly stable performance and shows it with the battery life. My scores vary between approx 19800 and 20800 with moderate use.

Using Antutu for benchmarks on Samsung devices
You should not use Antutu to benchmark Samsung devices because they are unreliable as the stock ROM will score higher no matter what so if you want real benchmark results then use another program.

[Q] bad score at antutu?:(

hi i was so happy whit my phone and.. i mean i still am i LOVE IT!
anyway today i worried a little bit my n4 at Latest PA gives me score of 12500-12900 around it was under htc one x near s2
is it bad? it was lagging at gpu test i also have snapdragon gruu battery test wanna try it should i worry? or normal? or its coz anything? also the quality of test was HORRIBLE i mean pixels were so giant!!!! anyway should i worry?!!!! i played nfs no lag MC4 no lag something wrong whit my phone? gonna lag on other games?!!
edit: i jsut turned my phone again on while it was at antutu now it says score : 17271 !?!!! is it a bug or thats the real one?!!!! its same as nexus 4!!!!!!
Man just calm down, and forget about what the benchmark score is. Is your phone running smoothly when you normally use it? Im sure the answer is yes, so why does the benchmark score matter so much to you? Oh and I'd advise that you stop running benchmarks, as I've seen quite a few people have issues where their phone shuts off and won't turn back on while they were running benchmarks.

Hello all!
Strange "issue" - i don't know if this is an issue but yeah - i installed the KITKAT release that appeared about 20 hrs ago on the google website...
Now - Antutu score has dropped a lot!
Before 4.4, i hat stock 4.3 - 19000 score and last AOKP with franco kernel - 20600
NOW - with 4.4 it has dropped to 14639 !!!!!!!

already is, while i was on n5 port i got 16k witch is standard for stock, that 14k just confirm what i said in other threads, 4.4 is more laggy than 4.3(not laggy like it lags a lot, but sometimes u see some little lags where u dont see on 4.3)
1. Antutu has changed a lot since even 4.3.. Separate dalvik tests etc.. Scores may have changed
2. Google phone software always comes unoptimised.. No krait/bionic optimisation and also with dog slow dalvik/Java libraries.
Kernel and rom devs should have normal performance resumed shortly.. Hopefully.

Not a valid argument - i've done all the tests today and yesterday- same antutu version
Furthermore- has anyone made similar before/after tests with other benchmark programs??
I dont know if it's placebo, but 4.4 seems at least that buttery as 4.3 to me....

now why do you say that antutu is the worst? in reality, they are both just as bad. yes, geek bench is just as inaccurate.
So, do these results indicate any sort of actual real life increase or decrease in performance?
I apologise just would like for someone to clear this up for me.
No. It is well known that bench marks mean nothing. They are easily fooled into giving higher scores with laggier performance
Wayne Tech Nexus
yes and no.... benchmarks are irrelevant to a certain point. But overall - they offer a view on the performance - an s2 will get a lower score as an s3, or a nexus 4.. and that with cheating on benchmarks, i think the only one that was found was samsung... one more reason 4 me to hate them and their recycled plastic products

You should be aware that the phone underclocks when reaches a certain temperature. Keep that in mind and re-do your benchmark. Put your phone somewhere cold, like granite, wait some minutes and do your benchmark.
Me too its just 15k in antutu.. And im getting some lags in games like FIFA 14 and a good battery drain it drains 7-10% in one night without use.

Although i am new to nexus 4, ye i upgraded from nexus one just 1 week ago (nexus one lasted almost 4 years, what a dog !) i do have to say the kitkat update has made a significant negative impact in 3d games/applications.
The performance drop is obvious on say, minion rush. As i am a gamer in PCs for many years, since 1986, and a tv control news expert , i can easily feel the frames being near 25 and i can even tell if frames are down to 20 10 or 5.
I am pretty certain the frames in Minion Rush for example (heavier game i have atm in n4) have dropped at least 30% and i am pretty sure they were not way above 25 before kitkat. I estimate 10-15 fps max

Depends on many factors.... a few are:
1. Devices vary and asv_group (explanation in SkyHigh kernel synapse). Mine is a mediocre 4.
2. Starting temp
3. Running background processes
4. OC can lead to earlier throttle and hence reduced benchmark.
5. Available RAM

5. My god even after debloating and freezing all unwanted proccesses the phone still requires 2GB or ram to run at all times and at max I only have less than 1GB of free ram. I feel like this is taking a hit on the scores too. My G3 I had it down to 1.3GB used RAM so effectively had about 1.7GB free at max. What could be taking up so much RAM at all times.

I had the G3 Cat.6 with SD805 and noticed very disappointing scores stock. The G3 also had very aggressive thermal throttling and the SD805 was a very hot running chip.
Once I got everything debloated and thermal turned off it hit almost 48,000.
I know that the S5 prime had better scores than the Cat.6 due to much better thermals and would expect the same out of the Note.
Try rooting and debloating your phone if you want to experiment and disable DVFS for better scores.
I also place my phone by an open window as it's -10 degrees Celsius now and low temp gives great boosts to your scores.

I've been rooted for almost a month now, but haven't gotten around to debloating since there isn't a need to. My phone flies. The only hesitation I see is if I actually use the menu key to see the task manager. Since I have the manager on my Edge bar I rarely even do that.
Debloating might be in my future just to see if I can finally reach that 6 hour screen on time. This phone has very few wake locks which has surprised me.

Benchmark scores are first of all meaningless, don't get upset if the score is low. Those scores mean ****e.
Still, as you are concerned, well, those scores are related with hardware as you can guess, and that hardware need to be cool to give you better scores. So don't keep running Antutu, leave the phone for half an hour or so (when nothing is running on background) and then run it. A hot device can never achieve high scores, never.

Benchmark scores are first of all meaningless, don't get upset if the score is low. Those scores mean ****e.

Are you ****ing serious or what...??? Benchmarks DON"T MEAN ANYTHING! If your phone is a fake then you can check it by downloading some apps like CPU-Z and Phone INFO from the play store...post pics here so that we can see.
lolipop has a GPU bug... I have the same issue... scoring around 43k. First time when I installed lolipop I got 52k then got the bug (don't know how). I reflashed 4.4 then lolipop thousand times with same results.

The captcha isn't the whole sentence, I believe they ask for the numbers which are shown in the captcha.
And benchmarks don't say anything imo, its just a number. Better just test a game like Real Racing 3, if it runs smooth you won't have any problems.

You reflashed you firmware so many times just to get higher numbers in some benchmark app...?Seriously, I think you got a problem.
Man i have the same problem here it after the update seems that the phone is always in power saving mode and the gpu is limited to 350 mhz instead of 700 mhz. Also the cpu runs at 1.3 ghz instead of 1.9 for the big cores thats why it has low score in antutu hope somebody figures out a solution and also this is a bug in this update

Yeah, the gpu throttles quickly, that's what I have noticed. I have let my phone cool down and I got 54600 in AnTuTu. The problem is there when the chipset is working at high load. KitKat had throttling limit pushed further so there were no issues with performance. Lollipop seems to have introduced more limits to the gpu because the cpu actually seems to be performing better than before.
