Galaxy Core SAMSUNG-SM-G360V - Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Questions & Answers

So I just picked up my samsung galaxy core, a phone that came with the new dataplan I got. Anyway I got it from verizon and am shocked to find the thing loaded with bloatware and rather locked down. This is disappointing as I really wanted to develop on physical hardware, hell the phone doesn't even have developer options enabled! Anyway I was wondering if anyone had experience with this specific type of phone, most of my attempts to root or flash it so far have been in vain.

I just got the same exact phone, there seems to not be a way to root the device. I hope someone figures out how to root it. Keep me posted if you find any methods that work, I'll keep you posted too

Same here, same model "Samsung GALAXY CORE Prime: Verizon Wireless (SM-G360V)" 4G LTE if anyone can root this, please let us know. I like the phone, just wanna get rid of the bloat and tweak it. Thanks.

I just got my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, model sm-360v as well. I like it and I want to root it. I take it then the Galaxy Core procedures do not work?

Man...I'm away from Android for 3 years and this happens..? Dead threads on new phones with no help?? :crying:

Hi, any updates on this model? ......I hope someone is working on getting this model rooted. Thx

I got mine a month ago and when I saw no one got root for it yet, I decided to take it on. I have the adb backup and most of the /dev/block figured out. The hard part is getting temporary root access or pushing busybox or SuperSU to the phone since /data/ is root owned and, obviously, no one has root yet. I'll update some more tomorrow if I can get the system dump finished or get a temp root.
EDIT: I found a few exploits in the Android 4.4.4, 4 to be exact. 3 of which should let me into the system. Once I get access I'll run a system dump so I'll at least have that and can do it all on my computer. One step closer and about 100 more XD

Thanks buddy

Keep us posted

Got a large /proc dump, a lot of the files are permission denied. Benefits of it are the fact that it's all the processes that run in the background or when a task is opened and it's needed to fulfil the request. Sadly I'm missing a few, gonna rerun it shortly and see if I can get the rest. Than I can see the order in which the processes trigger. Should be able to squeeze in a few commands somewhere. Since it's verizon, I don't know what protocols they have. So I'm just hoping I don't screw my phone.
EDIT: I have the codes written. Just have to link them all together so they bypass three ways instead of just one. And I have to hope to hell I don't mess up my phone. Considering its currently my main and only working phone. may not cost much, but I don't have the money to replace it.

thanks
@ jaywillsoul thanks, I like the phone, keep up the good work, hope you can do it!

Well the first run crashed my phone. Going through the code again to see what happened. I think it was the deserialization exploit. So it might be a while til I figure it out. Going to try running it on the emulator to avoid damaging my phone. I'll let you guys know how it works out as soon as I test it again.

I just managed to root g360f version with kingroot.

Hi Jaywillsoul
Hey my dad just got one so I'm trying to help him with stuff?
curious what the phone cost ?
I am gonna get all his account info and see if I can go into the account and find details.
But it's a slow process and I'm in SLC, ut and he's in Va so it makes it ? painful.
He said the tax was state and local like 15$ and total was ? 44 ish but tax on that makes no sense.
my guess is it's full tax and 3 or 6 months on the payment. Plus like a 35 up per mo on smart phone So just curious.

What does this have to do with ROOTing a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime?
Anyways the phone is about $120 plus tax if you dont buy a contract

Learning about the workings of the phone. And coming here gets me to see inside the phone a bit thru other people.
And "Considering its currently my main and only working phone. may not cost much, but I don't have the money to replace it." brought me to the curious about the pricing.
I always learn when browsing the particular phones.
I used all the info to root my gal pals 1st infuse and then S3 and now a 5or 6 possible.
"What does this have to do with ROOTing a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime?"
What is it,what are other people doing with it and why.
I wanted as much info to see if I needed to convince him to swap it out while that option was still available.

Fair enough
I got lost on your comment regarding getting your dads account info and Virginia state taxes when Jaywillsoul was talking about a deserialization exploit.
My mistake

I was going to try this, but I got worried that I would brick my new phone when I saw the firmware is different. Chainfire's method uses XXUAMD2 firmware. My Build Number is JDQ39.I337UCUAMDB. It is close, but not the same.

they want someone stupid to try it out instead of them and report their success or failure first lol
im sure most people dont even have this phone yet because its not out. Mine does not arrive till tommorow
I thoiught I saw a post in the Development thread that this method does not work - I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is the case, unfortunately. I have faith that Chainfire of someone will get us rooted soon enough - (hell, I don't even have my S4 yet - won't arrive until tomorrow
But - Unless I had seen someone else had successfully rooted using any method, I do not think I would even think about being the first one to try it. lol
How long before the AT&T source code is released? We should be able to get a work around once we have that.
This will be my first Android phone that didn't have root before it was released, and I've bought nearly all of them on release date, taken it home, and rooted it before doing anything! I won't be selling my SIII right away since it looks like I'll be using it until we get a successful root out of this sucker....
Getting mine on Saturday if all goes to plans, willing to help test as well! I have 60 days to return it if it breaks, hahah

Yea i can't officially switch till root. S4 just arrived. Will see if I can get some root on here.
Just got mine an hour ago. Apparently, thanks to AT&T, the bootloader is locked, which could complicate the root method considerably

Why so worried about root on lilipop

Why is everyone so worried about root on lilipop as we havent gotten root on 4.4.4 yet lolipop looks terribe for one stay on kit kat and don't worry so much i dont see anything different in lilipop except astetic changes and new security
There is no android device yet(to my knowledge) that hasn't been rooted. I think they all will get rooted sooner or later. If there's no root it not android... My opinion

I am worried about root on both KK and Lollipop. I came from a Hero, Evo, Evo 3D, S3, M8 and now I want the N4. I have rooted and applied custom roms on all of the phones so far to help maximize the phone. I know the N4 is a beast of a phone and shouldn't need much to maximize, but I would still like to have at least root access for my apps and maybe safestrap for flashing custom roms.
My thoughts are now is whether or not to get the N6 or the N4. N6 will be fully customizable, but I believe the N4 will be the better phone even without a unlocked bootloader. Not having an removable battery or SD card slot is a possible no go for me seeing the Lollipop with eat more room into the internal storage.
I am going to my local VZW store today to check it out with the wife.

yeah I saw it, I can't justify that cash right now for a D-N4. I am upgrading on the Edge plan and VZW is footing $25 a month for my phone and I will be just paying $5 a month or a total of $120 in 24 months for the N4. I have a 10gb plan and that's why they are footing the $25 a month.

The phone is still fresh and the development foresight started vanishing after the announcement of the Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo. I bought one out of impulse and once I seen the XDA forum as a ghost town I returned it. Not getting sucked into another deadbeat investment.
Motorola encrypts their bootloaders though, but I don't think that means it can't be rooted.

It's been half a year, and it's looking as unlikely as ever that there will be a root for the Verizon Note 4.
I am not so sure. There are still plenty of Devs working it out. Even though nothing has been found yet, they have taken out alot of possibilities. Plus this morning saw a post that I believe was specific for the RE N4 and a possible way for r/w access on /system directory. Waiting to hear word whether it works or not, but if it does, that is all I need. Me personally, I do not care much for custom ROM's, just need control on the device and when it tells me I am not allowed, it irks me.

Well even if someone was making progress, I wouldn't expect to hear anything from them due to the bounty. It's a lot of money, and announcing it could give someone else an advantage - they could potentially search for forum posts or questions you may have asked to try and extrapolate your methods, look at your past techniques and area of expertise, or just plain try and hack you.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a *little*disappointed that we still don't have it, but Lollipop had been great so far (battery issues aside), so it isn't nearly as important to me as it once was. Since Lollipop now let's apps write to the external SD, the only things I really want are Titanium Backup and the ability to remove status bar icons (like that Verizon '4g LTE' icon that NEVER goes away, even with mobile data turn off...)

I see it everywhere. People buy expensive smart phones just to text, make phone calls, take pictures, use social media, play games and a little casual web browsing. Then they still have the stock launcher with all the same icons and widgets that the phone came with and they go into the app drawer to search for any app they want to use. They have no clue about customization, settings or the file system. I think they just want other people to see that they have the best stuff.

yea since its not one of the best phones out even without root..
regardless, root adds to the value to some but not everyone.. many have never rooted a device and us that do is a VERY small piece of the customer base like 1% or less small.

I wonder what percentage of users are crazy enough to pay full price for a developer edition phone just so we can hopefully get some cool new rom. Then we still have to wait for root to come to the retail phones before development can take off. Oh well, at least I'm not having the issues the OTA caused everyone.

Sharp Aquos Crystal 306SH Root/ROM and deets- Dev's only

I am donating my Sharp Aquos Crystal to ONLY THE BEST DEVELOPERS. Its beat up and its been abused but there is potential in the phone for root, ROM and Mods. I will pick the developer and i'm basically hoping to send it to the best only! Please message me and let me know if you have any interest in doing substantial research on this phone and taking its code apart. I already tried and it needs a 3rd party program to access the boot-loader portion of the file system and ill tell you which one an provide a dropbox link to the loader you can download to get into it. I could easily take it apart and find a back-door but i work too often and cannot find the time to tear it down properly and look for vulnerabilities for free; Thus i am donating this phone as i will be replacing it with one i never dropped on the floor ;p cosmetically challenged yes, functionally operational YES. comes with a charger, box and receipt? YES. I want this phone to be developed into the most reliable and functional phone possible and if i have to do all the work myself... well i wont. or at least i wont share my findings if i have to spend time away from my family which is why i am DONATING this phone. I am a programmer for a very nice search engine we all use and i have already found 2 back-doors into the phone which i will also send over via PM. the problem is i cannot access the loader or storage from a PC using the standard drivers, only from within the phone. I need your help! You get a free beat up phone, and the opportunity to play with it. It will come loaded with Boost Unlimited to test the MMS, 4G, Calls etc. but i will only pay for 1 month. you MUST figure it out within 1 month! I can only spend 2 hours on my saturdays playing with it and i went back to my rooted G3 because it beats the Aquos in every category except for sleek design. however, i think this phone can be a powerhouse for entry level users and with its power i know it can be everyone's favorite device. I want ROMS. I want unattended root and i want this thing to be the leader in aftermarket mods. Can we make it happen? idk we will have to see. The CM team shot it down instantly and said SHARP will not release the loader in the US but i dont work for SHARP, so here in beautiful southern california i am safe playing with the software and you will be ok because no laws restrict us to OpenWare software like the rest of the messed up planet. I have permission from google to modify the software strictly for research so we are clear.

I already shipped the phone out to Palo Alto, CA. I have purchased another 306SH and I am waiting to hear back from the developer, a friend of mine from college. Hopefully by the end of the month we will have unattended root with a rom compatibility list. He has all the time we need to test and program the phone. I couldn't get past ROM upload without bricking the thing so maybe he will discover a better method. Like I said in my original post I only have a few hours a week to play with the code and its not enough time to test any configuration changes without losing my daily driver. (since my company blackberry doesnt make calls outside of company contacts list, I needed my personal phone still, but already replaced it.)
As far as the loader goes, i found a way in using ODIN4 but the newest update locked out the back door so once again i was stuck; my buddy is going to have to find another way into the folder. I will keep everyone posted on the results as i will be testing the first round next weekend. I'm currently playing in Kitchen with CM12 and testing the drivers in my box so worst case scenario i will find the right ROM config and stabilize it so we have at least 1 modifiable ROM to mess around with. I will release download links this coming weekend for the Alpha Release CM12 ROM and with any luck, we will have unattended root as well. I see great things coming soon for this device.
I am also working on a nice little camera mod that we will all use daily from an unreleased packet @ work and cooking it up for the Aquos so stay tuned! it should apk install on factory firmware which is what i will be testing after thursday evening.

Successful root was achieved before i shipped it out using company software however i cannot release corporate software to the public since i have no way to remove it from the building (and i value my career.) but soon enough, i will provide source and links to the backdoor once we find the next one in the update. I just wish Sharp wasn't so dang grumpy about releasing their crap OS to developers. If they did, i'm sure most of the android community would be picking these 306's up off the shelves at an alarming rate. Oh well, sucks to be Sharp USA. When they want to collaborate to ID security risks, I will give them the exact same answer they gave me- "Nope i dont care who you are, you are not getting our OS pack or loader software."
hahaha we will see about that ;p

Nope, in fact the opposite. My friend couldn't get into the phone so I drove up to Palo Alto to help him out friday night over the past weekend and it was a train wreck. We salvaged the OP and called it quits first thing yesterday morning. He showed me his progress which was about as far as i got as well. So we threw the broken Aquos at a wall and I sold the nice new black one I purchased, to some guy off CraigsList for $30. Sorry guys but it needs too much work and without Sharp (Shāpu Kabushiki-gaisha) providing any information as to what driver/ loader sequence it is we need to tap into the chip via 3rd party, Its a lost cause. (my work console gets into it in under 30 seconds, tho it's very illegal and cannot be replicated without losing my career.) We tried everything for 20 hours straight the first day and 12 hours the 2nd when I finally stood up and tossed the phone down something like 4 flights of stairs and off the balcony. surprisingly enough, it didn't break easily.
I don't have time to tear down the code in terminal and cook the exploit since my job is 50 hours a week already. Any more wasted time on this project and I'll lose my car, job and likely my wife.
I recommend selling the crap Aquos and getting the S6 Edge, which I just picked up today. I already have root access using ODIN and a modified exploit i found on a chinese website and i'm working on a ROM for it as we speak.
Its just a damn shame that Sharp doesn't want their products to take off here in the States, seeing how well the Aquos performs. I explained it to them and they just said "nope! we will press charges if you pursue any further modification."
So Thats the end of that. sorry guys i really tried and my buddy worked for an entire week and only got to where i was after the first 48 hours. I see the exploit looking through the logs, but i was told federal charges will be filed if i release the exploit to the public in the form of auto-run APK which i also could not get running properly. It all comes down to the platform.
They didnt say anything about publiclysharing the code tho. I am having my wife look over the documents for legality issues and if she cant find anything stating raw-code release is applicable, i will release my logs from work and all the project work we have so far. its about 11gbs of logs and code and a few extra gigs of failed modified programs we wrote. Like i said, we tried it all
Perhaps one of you more fine tuned developers can work through my data and see what sort of application will backdoor into the system. As it stands today though, The latest firmware release is tighter than a tick's a$$ and downgrading is about as hard as getting weed legal in federal court.
As my buddy Rob says: "Basically, I can get into iOS' Pants in 12 minutes, but Sharp's Loader is wearing an electrified chastity belt and that b17CH swallowed the keys. We either wait for the next release and modify the stock update so it thinks it's a normal update, or wait for the company to get hammered and drop the pants to let us play."
I have absolute 0 hope for this device.
The Aquos is toasted as far as the modification community should be concerned.
Galaxy S6 Edge tho... This thing is a beast. Ill be releasing my findings tonight or tomorrow once i finalize this ROM modification (cooking up some extra settings, modifying prop and removing bloat + some LED and screen mods.)
I also pre-ordered the new Blackberry Venice that "supposedly runs android" through my companies pre-order form, so in the next couple months hopefully ill get my hands on that unit. BB's have been running Android/ linux based software for quite a while now (since 10.1) but it is emulated and not native. Hopefully, the "venice" developed by Samsung will yield some surprising performance and efficiency results that we all want and need.
Standby Team, I'm working as fast as i can, Hooah!

I could already tried and it needs a 3rd party program to access the boot-loader portion of the file system and ill tell you which one an provide a dropbox link to the loader you can download to get into it.
Message me and lets get this show on the road.
ill send it out via UPS and expect to see results in 1 month

thanks for information and for your work .. what happen with tools and code that you have can you share it?
ok guys im sorry i have been AWOL this week we started a new project and i just dove into it so we havn't had time to re-work the code. My wife says there is a clause in the paperwork Sharp sent me stating i cannot release any portion of their software whether modified or not. so basically all i can release is the collaborative work i've done with Rob which isnt much because its mostly factory firmware modifications and common knowledge. needless to say, There is a reason we salvaged the OP.
I know alot of you have sent PM asking for clues and access to my software. I have tried to reply to all of you but you need to change your security settings here on XDA because even though you can send me a message, i cannot reply.
I will be sending out the first batch of ADB run-around to PM's that actually go through. The only loophole we can find is private collab which is legal in the US so once i get the first round out, i will email from my personal account the rest of the changes we had made.
*Note* Google is offering $40k USD for the exploits in the new software so you can understand my hesitance to release any loaders that can potentially tap into most phones' firmware systems. That's like handing over 40k for free. Ill tune up and debug the programs rob and i built and send them out but they do not work for the 306. And since i dont have the 306 anymore, i cannot test any more modifications.
Fastboot isn't the way into the 306. you need to get your hands on the initial (Extremely buggy) release, modify the prop and boot directory, and then let the phone update to the new software with the new settings. It will blackout and sit on the Aquos emblem for like 30 minutes, but once recovered the root stays. thats the only way we got it to even try to respond but still no SU access and /detect-root shows no success however there is now root folder access. Then using ADB push the old OS back onto it and it will keep modified folder access for root but will not boot completely at this point. that's as far as we got and couldn't move past it. I asked a coworker last week about it and he gave me some new ideas, however i dont have the phone anymore and i don't plan on purchasing another one since i have moved onto the S6 Edge and another project from work.
Im sorry guys but i'm out of time on the 306. I tried for more than 2 months and its a no-go. I have heard of people gaining root and removing GSM lock, but they have way too much time invested and completely re-wrote the directories by hand.
If you are still dead set on the 306SH, Download the newest firmware, http://www.sharpusa.com/Support/ProductDetail.aspx?modelid=9FCA5482-7A08-1BF8-7AA9-F29AF5CB9A19 and unpack it. connect to ADB and \fastboot-dirw acc1. then # mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/st19/system, # exit.
Here is the problem. Permissions are set by something else in the ROM and when you attempt to push anything other than a verified update, it crashes. Not sure why. 18 hours on that subject alone -_-
When looking through the Unpacked ROM, It's like line 42-45 and you can see the malicious lockout, that when deleted bricks the phone. I played with the rom and couldn't figure out why every damn program uses the same sequence and references the same directory before it even begins to process. its a classic lock-out. Loader software barely bypasses it but you need to find the drain in the phone. There is an application somewhere that constantly reference checks the line 42 and if its not present, the phone shuts down and bootloader locks up.
Do yourself a favor and upgrade. Its an outstanding phone, but its not worth the headache.
This thread will be deleted in about a month so PM me and make sure you can receive a response.
OP 306SH-Decomissioned permanently unless i get another one. sorry guys. And i go back to school monday for summer classes so i wont be working on anything except work projects for the next 8 weeks. But I will be back with some excellent news for the S6 Edge by sunday night. I have root and I'm on day 5 of my custom ROM and this thing is Fast! like whoa thats a powerPC fast. I recommend the Edge to anyone struggling with the 306. Samsung really stepped it up.

This is the method that DOES NOT WORK. the second one gives some access but permissions are all screwed up like i said earlier. Somebody needs to tear it completely down.
I took a look at psneuter and the root concept mentioned in that thread for method 2. Didn't see anything that would determine permissions to be out of wack. Could you explain what you are referring to @jack_famous?

[Q] One click root is saying they can do S8 now?

Sooo.... https://www.oneclickroot.com/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s8/
Legit? I know once upon a time I used OCR... Not sure what its like now. So just thought Id ask since before I can use my S8. Would love to have my titanium backup restore.
have you even wondered why you havent had a response yet?lol
Not really. Just was curious since we know day 1 launch stuff, who knows how fast something takes. But still in case others saw the same thing. Least we now have a thread that would show up on google saying if its not legit.
Not sure about other versions but my sprint 8+ is a no go for one click root. It's probably just a cash grab attempt as people will need to give them $39.99 before getting the no root available message that I currently can't link a screenshot of due to lack of posts. Fortunately for me, I found a way around that so I'm not out any money for the effort.
EDIT: take the space out between the T's in the addy below and there's the screenshot, only way I could post it for now.

SM-G892A (S8 Active) - Root Bounty?

Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has started a bounty for rooting this device. As it compares to the S8 itself, the hardware is the same in a much less soy-esque packaging. I like everything about this device except for it's lack of dev support.
I'd be willing to start it off with $100 dollars USD to begin with. (I'd also be interested in contacting some devs to help fuzz the thing / provide dumps / do what I can)
It would be a wonder to see this thing rooted and it's assumed to be possible if the S8 had received one.
I'll give this thread a nice bump since it seems like the Active is coming to other US carriers soon enough.
I'm in for $50 usd (or worth of btc/eth)
Want this phone on TMo but need root
EDIT: i'm good for $50, but to be clear, needs to work on the TMo variant which is coming out later this month (I will NEVER buy another AT&T phone -- the most locked down bootloaders ever!).
I can contact some of the devs i worked with in the original SamPWND root method and see if they would be willing to take the task on. Will report back shortly with update!

That would be rad, post an update when / if you hear from them. It's appreciated.
For the time being, I just brought the phone back and got an S8. That does mean that I won't be able to help with any sort of development for obvious reasons. I'll be sure to pick up an active if something goes on and I am still good for 100 dollars.
I really needed root sooner than I thought for some specific stuff, it's rough not being able to afford proper unlocked devices from the OEM..
(If I don't destroy this slippery piece of glass)

Yeah, I know.. It got down to a point where there was one day left to return it hassle free and root was rather important.
I'm still willing to pitch in for a root method, you'll just need someone else to test now.
I have an s8 active and I would be willing to test it. I'm fairly tech savvy I would just need instructions and I would most certainly help in anyway I can!!!!

Ill see what i can do tonight if i have time, otherwise soon. The only risk, as with all other root methods, is it not working and having to reflash stock firmware
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pyp5n11ibmtzvr0/G892_ENGROOT.tar?dl=0
Don't own the device or a US s8 but from my experience with the s7 active and flashing s7 roms on the active and them working I would guess that root can be obtained the same way with the same methods used kernel wise as in kernel image setup or which ever combination method was used for the s8? Just a uneducated thought I had. Aside from the s7A I haven't bought an American US branded phone since 2013. Another idea I have would be since they both share the same everything, can you use the root method for the s8? My experience with the 7active was the active button didn't work and the back and menu buttons were broken but other than that all worked. Same theory for your s8A but since you don't have physical buttons I'd say success is 90%
I say again success is 90% if you flash s8 firmware on the active and take the same root method as the active. Battary will be wonky but you'll have root lemme know if method works please.
Also, hard brick is unlikely since everything hardware wise minus the battary is the same.
anybody checked out the thread by chainfire about signing boot images??
There's other Sammy guys in the mix too interesting thread for sure
