Agreed...I have my S4 in hand now and am happy to help...need root and need a wifi tethering option that works. PM me and let me know if you need log files or what...

Agreed, we all need to pitch in. Weird as im not seeing any devs yet?

I was going to try this, but I got worried that I would brick my new phone when I saw the firmware is different. Chainfire's method uses XXUAMD2 firmware. My Build Number is JDQ39.I337UCUAMDB. It is close, but not the same.

they want someone stupid to try it out instead of them and report their success or failure first lol

im sure most people dont even have this phone yet because its not out. Mine does not arrive till tommorow

I thoiught I saw a post in the Development thread that this method does not work - I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is the case, unfortunately. I have faith that Chainfire of someone will get us rooted soon enough - (hell, I don't even have my S4 yet - won't arrive until tomorrow
But - Unless I had seen someone else had successfully rooted using any method, I do not think I would even think about being the first one to try it. lol

How long before the AT&T source code is released? We should be able to get a work around once we have that.

This will be my first Android phone that didn't have root before it was released, and I've bought nearly all of them on release date, taken it home, and rooted it before doing anything! I won't be selling my SIII right away since it looks like I'll be using it until we get a successful root out of this sucker....
Getting mine on Saturday if all goes to plans, willing to help test as well! I have 60 days to return it if it breaks, hahah

Yea i can't officially switch till root. S4 just arrived. Will see if I can get some root on here.

Just got mine an hour ago. Apparently, thanks to AT&T, the bootloader is locked, which could complicate the root method considerably

Poll: Supposed OTA 1.35.605.2 -- Have you received it?

Sorry but I am skeptical about this OTA. So I'd like to start a poll on who has actually been prompted and/or received it.
what are you skeptical about ? it existing ?
what would make you skeptical of this ?

The fact that only 1 person has received it.
I haven't gotten it, but I'm not sure I'd even see it since I renamed otacerts just in case they did this.
I guess I'll wait a little longer to be skeptical...considering only 1 person on THIS forum says they recieved it. That doesn't mean only 1 person recieved it.
Plus, with all the users here running custom roms already, how many of us are even going to see it pushed to thier phones ? I know it won't come up on mine at all because of that.
We'll see...maybe it's real, maybe it's not but I think it may be a little early to think otherwise.

Exactly -- only one screenshot from one user. Given the number of us who frequent this forum, our sample size is large enough that more of us should have it by now if it existed.

Not really. For about 5 days the only guy that had received the first OTA update was a writer at Phandroid. It eventually got pushed out to everyone.
So what is the motivation for photoshoping the screen shot?

I'm running the CM test rom and when i go to "About phone" in settings. the option to check for software updates is gone. I figured because of that, i would not see any OTA's pushed to my phone....I'm not trying to say it's real, i'm just saying it's pretty fast to call someone out.

I think the OP is just trying to see if anyone else gets it. If someone does get it and doesn't have clockworkmod recovery, be sure to logcat so we can get the file.
If you have clockwork recovery you should be able to accept the update, because cwm won't flash it but the update will stay on your sdcard.
if any of you want, ill be more than happy to demo the damn thing with a damn webcam as proof the screenshot isnt photoshoped.
I don't know if anyone seen this but Verizon tweeted something earlier today too about sharing your data connection....it seems to fit the update giving WiFi hotspot. I could be a dummy but I believe the guy. Hopefully more people will see it soon.

Mines on order as well. Been waiting for some more Note 4 Dev to come in stock (for a spare). Checked on the Edge and figured for another $100, why not?
Love my Note 4 Dev Ed, but the thought of something happening to it encouraged me to buy another as a backup. My luck, they'll finally come up with a Root exploit for the retail edition now.
so maybe root soon for Verizon devices ?
Wow! 800 bones. I would be just as happy (at this point) if we Verizon users could just get Lollipop!
Root probably but will anyone write vzw roms for such a rare device?

YAY! mine just got here today. looking for that CWM thread now lol. Sadly it doesnt come prerooted lol but it was sure nice seeing the "Developer Device" tag under my battery. at least i dont think it is already rooted, downloading SU as i type this so i'll have an answer to that in a few minutes when i try root checker. but either way im going to install CWM very soon i hope and maybe we will get a good VZW rom, heck i'd be happy just unlocking the hotspot and killing all the samsung apps at this point... that'd hold me until a suitable rom comes forward.
anywho it has been a long wait for us VZWers soooo glad we finally got this, let the apps begin! XD

Still trying to get root. A Samsung help person told me the bootloader was locked by default and there was no unlock method. (Posted screen cap in another thread) but that doesn't make sense. Either she didn't read my text when I said I had the developer edition or she was clearly too dumb to qualify for the job she had. There would be no point in dev editions if they were exactly like the retail versions. I think @docugod was able to root using the note 4 method but I'm waiting for his reply to make sure I read him correctly.

I'm Loving Lollipop, BUT where is Blaze's ROOT?

I went ahead an took the OTA for 5.0 because it has been confirmed we can go back to 4.4.4 and I'm Loving it but now I am wondering where is ROOT? blazinandroid1 said it would be released this weekend. The Weekend is come and GONE. I am starting to be a little Skeptical now.

To my Knowledge there is No Way possible to Root the Verizon Note 4 without Bricking it. I'm 99% sure that is the case
Locked bootloader
Verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders so there is little you can do.
NEVER buy a phone there.
This article says it can be done but I am more sceptical then you are about it.
I'd be surprised if it did work.

Hmmm, interesting, Lollipop, Blaze's, Root, does anyone else see the irony here lol?
But wait, what if we reversed it to crack the code! hahahaha
Being really silly sorry mates
I decided that I would sell my N4 Verizon and get a sprint N4 unlock the carrier and root it for Verizons network. Then blaze said he cracked Verizon so I waited now I'm pissed.

Keeping Root with Insurance Replacement

I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3. with Android Version: 4.3, Jellybean... I have avoided updating to Kitkat since I had heard that it was "unrootable" at this point.
Recently, I cracked the screen on my phone and would like to get an insurance replacement from Asurion. I am worried that I may get a phone from them with Kitkat on it. (or maybe even Lollipop?)
What are my options for keeping root?
IF I get a phone that still has Jellybean on it, is my best option for getting Lollipop+Root, to install Safestrap on my phone, and then install something like JasmineROM?
Thanks!
This happened to me. They'll send you one with 5.0 or 4.4.4 NK1. Ended up just buying an LG G3 full retail and keeping the note 3 as a spare.

I would personally look into the cost of having your screen replaced.
Asurion is going to charge you $100. deductible if I'm not mistaken.
Plus you will more than likely get a phone with at least 4.4.4 on it and maybe even lollipop. Neither of which will be rootable, 4.4.2 was the last version that is rootable at this point.

I moved up to the Note 3 from the S3 because the charging port quite working and Asurion wanted $150 deductible. It's no longer worth having the insurance if they're going to start charging 1/3 of the cost of a new phone plus the monthly fee.

If it's the vulnerability that I am thinking about that was specifically pointing out 4.4.4 aosp, that has been around for months now and was posted for all to see here sometime ago. I'll give a more detailed response, probably should have did that from the start . Its broad anywhere/settings intent; the system passes it privileges to an app when adding an account. Using this we can push the required binaries for su access. There's probably other ways to do this as well. This Is also present in both 4.4.4 and 5.0
So when I said I'm working on it I'm creating an application that will carry the pay load and carry out the code.
Don't worry, I'm not going to ruin my reputation with false root claims. Its coming one way or another.

Good luck to you.
I've got faith in CovXX getting this done. The vulnerability has been know for several months, but nobody has attempted to use it on the Note 3 before, that's why it's not happened yet. Most devs working on root have jumped ship to the Note 4 or other phones prior to 4.4.4 being released on the Note 3. It's good to have at least one dev remaining to attempt it.

Should I go ahead and go through the bootloader/rooting processes?

I've wanted to grill out some of the problems with the A7 that's came with it, but after realizing I've never done this before, I've also noticed there's no actual ROM out yet
Should I just wait until the ROM comes and maybe some full guides?

considering there is absolutely no rom support yet I would hold off, wait out your 30 day return period and if there are roms after that and you want to void your warranty then do it then. Also I'm sure people are working on getting the bootloader unlocked without contacting ZTE so there is another reason to wait.

There is a fairly simple way to Unlock your boot loader right now, it seems to work for most people. Its possible they may figure out a way to block this in future updates (I am not an expert). If you are with in your retail return window I would recommend trying the method because if you manage to really mess something up, you can at least return it.
Just take your time.
The instructions are for multiple versions and slightly out of order. Make sure everything is working before you begin.
If you plan to go through ZTE and in theory void your warranty, then by all means wait until you really need it.
Good luck.

I just got my A7. Coming from OPO with a sultan rom running xposed. I want to root but honestly I am not super smart developer. I am good following direction and figuring things out. I honestly love Sulan rom and would love it on A& but I doubt he does a rom for it as he mostly is busy with school and sticks with OPO or OP3.
I am debating on rooting as I mostly just want xposed for its youtube app adblocker and in app blocking apps.
I would suggest waiting til roms are developed and little more mature. Which if judging by the speed of root being available I would say could be as soon as few months or less.
Big respect for the developers and who keep the community and advancements going. Thanks all!
Does anyone know a way to disable the notification bell with root? Thanks

I don't think you can disable the bell and keep the lockscreen exactly as it is.
