Great One M9 deal for anyone in the UK.... - One (M9) General

Hey everyone just wanted to say there is a great deal for the HTC One M9 currently on mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, you can grab it on EE with double speed 4G, 1000minutes, unlimited Texts and 2GB data for only £28.50 a month and £80 (price has since increased to £129 as of 18/03) upfront.
This works out at £764, the EXACT same deal is on EE's website for £1064. Thats a £300 saving right there, you can shave another £31.50 off if you join topcashback and use their cashback link! I challenge anyone to find a better deal
- Adam

Thats a great deal. I literally ordered from EE about an hour ago, came here to brag and read this. The tariff I have ordered (4gb data) works out about £460 cheaper over the term of the contract on that site! Will be calling up to cancel tomorrow I think. Are there any disadvantages to not ordering direct from the network provider? Had a very quick chat with EE online sales and they went on about my first line of support for any issues would be seller and not EE. 1. Is this true? and 2. Does it even matter if this is the case?

I'm glad to be a help to answer your questions 1). Yes 2). not at all, I would argue that MPD provide a better support service than EE anyway! (even if there were disadvantages it wouldn't be £460 worth of disadvantages!)
The price difference is crazy! another reason for me to jump ship direct from EE was that they would no longer give me my £8 loyalty discount (i guess im not a loyal customer anymore) apparently they dont do those discounts anymore. That being said it still would have worked out more expensive!
If you really need that 4GB Data you can go for the £33.49 plan on MPD it has a £89 upfront cost for the phone but if you use the code USWM154 it nearly halfs that down to £50, overall it works out costing about £90 extra over the 2GB plan i got. Both plans have that Double Speed 4G aswell.
Let us know how everything turned out - Adam

You legend, thanks for the code! I'm gonna give EE a call now and cancel - will let you know how it goes!

Order with EE cancelled and order placed with MPD. So instead of £70 handset and £43.50 pm I got £50 handset (with code) and only £33.50 pm on exactly the same deal! When I rang to cancel they asked for my reason and I explained the situation and they didn't seem bothered in the slightest.

Thanks for the input combat goofwing, I saw that Tesco had dropped some really competitive pricing today. Those are some really nice deals, the first one is only £100 shy of the MPD offer so for anyone who would prefer tesco and a provider its fantastic - Adam

Nice. I didn't mention in my post but I also got £25 quidco. Not as good as TCB but better than nothing!

I'm amazed at how Samsung can put bleeding-edge hardware inside their phones and still price them LOWER than htc while maintaining a bigger profit margin.
The M9, even with last year's technology, is till more expensive than the S6.

The more phones you sell the more profit you make. You can make a smaller profit from each unit but if you sell a whole bunch more units than the competition your still going to end up better off. Let's not forget the M9 also has bleeding-edge hardware.

I think it's more down to Samsung making their own tech while htc just repackages.
Remember, the NAND, storage, RAM, CPU, display, SoC, and almost everything else in the S6 was built in-house.
Also, the M9 doesn't have bleeding-edge hardware. The display is the same as the M8. The SD 810 is on a 20nm fab node, which is 2014 Q4 tech. It's mostly last-gen technology, yet it's more expensive than the S6, which has technology that htc will use next year.

I said the same thing after using the plastic POS Galaxy S3.
I felt the S6 and the M9 in hand and I was shocked at how high-quality the S6 is. It felt like a luxury car just like what reviewers and other people have said. The M9 felt like an ordinary device in comparison to the S6.
TW also doesn't lag a bit. The M9 had a few stutters that only made me think the S6 is a true premium phone while the M9 is just an ordinary Android phone.

Unfortunately I haven't been lucky enough to see/hold either phone in person yet so I can't comment. I'm looking forward to seeing some drop tests though.
It will however take more than that to convince me that TW will ever run anywhere near as smooth as sense - Adam

14nm is bleeding edge but NOT practical or profitable for anyone but the greatest semicons due to high volume.
The process node hasn't even ramped up yet so the yields will still be low and the kinks in it still high = high costs. I bet there is fab under-utilization too.
Samsung is relying on 20mill units per month, so what do you expect. HTC only get 0.5mill per month, at most making it entirely unfeasible and very dear for them.

Out of interest, do these guys supply an unbranded handset? The only reason I ask is EE is about to switch on WiFi calling, and have stated it will only work on EE branded handsets direct from them, ie. EE Rom.
Now I know you could flash the EE firmware onto a unbranded handset, but that might not be comfortable for many people.

Ha, almost $500. Amazing how close it is in price (without contract) to a gently used Nexus One. Thank you for pointing this out.
I'm getting rid of my T-Mobile N1 because it sucks on AT&T (which I'm also stuck on due to insistent family members). I had bought the T-mobile version before any tech blog hinted that an AT&T version was coming out.
So anyway, Best Buy is offering this phone for $130 w/contract, with no silly $100 mail-in rebate for "AT&T cash" or whatever the hell it is. Yay!

take a look at the aria specs 1st, you may want to trade your tmo N1 for an ATT N1.... :2cents:
Unsubsidized it's overpriced, for sure. There is only $30.00 between that and a new N1.

I did research the specs, thanks... according to the results, its speed is comparable to the N1 despite the lower processing power (http://www.mobileunderground.info/showthread.php?t=14408). And it's been difficult to find someone who'd trade in this area... so I'll just use the extra $ to pay for textbooks. But thanks for your thoughts.
Attn1: It's funny how they overprice it (unsubsidized) and then throw a lot of $10 AT&T services in there that they hope you'll buy. Hopefully we can delete these when someone develops root or a rom for this....
I heard this phone will be available at costco for $99 (upgrade price) or 49.99 if you're a new customer.
AT&T's no commitment pricing is $379.00. That makes that $499.00 EBay price a huge ripoff.
It's $499 at my Best Buy. And I hate that they only have dummies so I couldn't even play with it.

Well, on Ebay you can sell the N1 and pretty much acquire an AT&T version for almost the same money.
I don't think that AT&T's $379.00 no contract pricing is out of whack for an Aria, really when compared to phones like the HTC Magic and the HTC Hero (GSM) which both cost more.
I know what you mean about those $10.00 services though. That you can't remove that software without root access is cheesy at best, but it's not the end of the world, either.
The only extra cost services are AT&T Nav and AT&T Music. AT&T Maps is free (albeit unnecessary). Family Map is preloaded, but these things are easy enough to ignore until it's rooted. It's not like they're the only carrier to load their programs on. I doubt that everyone on Sprint is way into Nascar, but it's usually there.
It's a great little phone that's more powerful than the specs would let on. It's smooth and fast. Mine was only $92 with my upgrade and fan discount so I couldn't resist. I don't want another iPhone so this is the best alternative at the moment.
btw, they didn't block Google Maps Nav like I thought they might and it works great.

I agree with you there. I got mine yesterday and it seems to handle 2.1 better than the N1 did! Of course, there are no live backgrounds... but I can have 7 apps running and it's still smooth, unlike the N1 which could handle only 3 or 4 apps before it lagged (on mine anyway... and using "end app" management programs at the same time... before I had upped it to 2.2).
I think this is the link to root the phone and install 3rd party pgms

Samsung Vibrant to only cost $330 OFF CONTRACT?

Its seems that the fine folks at phandroid have stumbled across this little nugget of info tucked neatly away in the fine print of the Samsung Vibrant's shop page.
†On approved credit. $82.50 down payment, plus 3 monthly payments of $82.50, required. 0% APR. Taxes & fees additional. Available only at T-Mobile-owned retail stores; see store for details.
phandroid.com/2010/06/30/samsung-vibrant-to-cost-330-off-contract-galaxy-s-fine-print/
If u do the math that equates to $330. I hope T-Mobile plays it smart and doesn't change the price before launch, because I definitely assumed the off contract price would be $450-$550
In any event, there also seems to be a "REAL" screen cap of the actual price tag on the page before TMO decided to remove it. Here's the link to that also...

Jesus Christ. Do you seriously think that the Nexus One retails for $529 but THIS phone - which is better in every.single.way is going to retail for $330?
That's quite literally one of the stupidest things I think i've read in a long, long time.
Personally, Im pretty sure the phone is going to cost $500+ because the on contract price vs. this supposed on contract price doesn't make sense and this also bucks the trend of previous costs associated with phones of this level.
However, it would be a nice (and courageous) move on TMO's part with this slightly, in comparison, paired down galaxy s model to move units.
Anyway, I thought I would share this sliver of hope with the TMO faithful lol.
This just reminds me of the entire "Project Dark" / EM+ debacle where some blogs reported errors/rumors as facts of an upcoming program. So when EM+ came out, the news wasn't that TMO cut their pricing, it was that they didn't live up to the hype that some bloggers posted about false pricing info.
Same damn thing now. People ARE going to be disappointed if they think that in any reality (normal or alternate) TMO is going to sell this phone for $330 without a contract to recoup the cost of the device.
also, this phone is a $750 phone unlocked:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...w?ie=UTF8&qid=1277908710&sr=8-1&condition=new
If you look at the T-mobile site now it says "125 down, with 3 monthly payments of 125" thus making the phone in the $500 range
as you said, that price has been pulled down, and curently at the bottom of the page is of the info screen (when you go to their web and shop for phones, and then for samsung phones) it shows:
"†On approved credit. $125 down payment, plus 3 monthly payments of $125, required. 0% APR. Taxes & fees additional. Available only at T-Mobile-owned retail stores; see store for details...."
others have reported off contract pricing at $439 / $439 and some at $499

The Vibrant is defiantly NOT better in every single way.
The Nexus one Has a Bluetooth car dock, No word about anything like that for the Galaxy S phones.
The Nexus One is made out of much much better materials, The vibrant feels cheap in the hand and the body looks cheap, the only thing on the Vibrant that looks better is the screen.
The Vibrant has no FLASH, How some one could make a High end Android phone without a flash is beyond me, but oh well.

Samsung Focus price drop looks PERMANENT

If you haven't heard already, AT&T's website shows a change in price for the Focus which was originally $199 and is now $99 on contract. I was assuming this was just a random New Year's sale but now I'm not so sure.
Yesterday on Gizmodo, I noticed that Microsoft was advertising WP7 and the Focus but those banners had been there for a while. Then I realized it was also advertising the $99 price and I don't remember AT&T advertising many of their sales before.
Today my cousin needed to return a router to AT&T so I went to the local store in Southern California and I decided to check out the price. There it was on the sign: "$99 on contract". That rules out a web-only sale too. So after my cousin had returned the router. I asked one of the employees there about the phone's price. He said they just got word of the new pricing last night and changed it in-store this morning. I asked him if it was permanent and he replied, "I'm not completely sure. Like I said, we only just got the message yesterday and it just said to change the price."
If it were a sale, then AT&T would probably be screaming about it from the rooftops and make their employees tell customers it was a limited time only...but that's not the case. So it looks like the Focus has officially dropped to $99 on contract.
Now the real question is: why? Seems convenient for the price to drop the week of CES so maybe thats a hint that AT&T will be getting some new smartphones in their lineup soon, maybe even more WP7s. Another thing to consider is that AT&T is trying to rope in as many customers as it possibly can before Verizon gets the iPhone 4, which is rumored and has some evidence to support it happening a couple of weeks after CES. Take it as you will, but a great cutting-edge smartphone is now $100 and thats pretty sweet if you ask me.
Well, assuming the Surround and Quantum haven't dropped too, the Focus is the only 8GB WP7, and the 8GB iPhone is $99. It could be Samsung/Microsoft/AT&T wanted that price lower so the Focus was clearly a better choice.
@FishFace - Both the Samsung Focus and the LG Quantum are getting the $100-pricepoint-treatment.

That's what is so odd. Why are only the Quantum and the Focus getting the price drop?
My only theory right now is that AT&T wanted all three at the $100 price point but HTC declined while LG & Samsung both agreed. I'm sticking with my master theory that AT&T wants as many people as humanly possible to come to AT&T before Verizon's iPhone is announced as this also makes sense with AT&T offering early upgrades for people interested in buying the iPhone 4.
$99 on contract price is so so as most online dealers already sold them for $49 or free. However, the biggest story in this price reduction is that both Focus and Quantum now sell for $399 off contract. That's a very attractive price for me w/o (not even possible right now) sign up two more years of contract.
I suspect the HTC doesn't sell as well as the other two. And also this move is in anticipation of WP7 phones will be released to Verizon and Sprint soon, not iPhone. iPhone itself has the price drop as well at the same time.
iphone4 is not the threat. It would be the iPhone5 ! Or even WP8 !
And the strategy to go to a $100 now is brilliant. I mean how many smartphones that are really worth buying are at this price point? Seems to me that they have found a great price point and will sell millions of them. They proabably get some kind of rebate from Microsoft for selling so many units and Microsoft will benefit from increased users buying Apps or XboxLive games.
No different than a Toyota Corolla. Make a good car and sell it at a great price point and they sold LOTS of them. Build up a huge customer base and when the customer is ready to replace the Corolla, then they up sell to the Camry or to the Lexus., or sell them another Corolla. Eitherway they have huge following.
HTC doesn't know how to make a reasonably priced phone. Well, they know how to make a phone that should be reasonably priced, that's all they make, but they don't price them according to what they're actually worth.
In case you guys are interested, Amazon Wireless is selling the Focus for $0.01 today. Stock is definitely on the move. I'm guessing a Focus 2 with Super AMOLED Plus might be on the way.
Pretty simple, ATT is the only company presently that has a Galaxy S windows7 phone, my guess is the rest of the cell companies are about to get their versions too, much like they all did with Android.
If the Focus is priced $100 cheaper than tmobile, verizon, sprint galaxy S versions, they hope it will take the steam out of their fanfare.
Only reason there isnt a Windows7 phone in my house currently is cos I only have tmobile and sprint.

Just bought one off Amazon for $0.01. Friend got one through AT&T for the same price after he told them about the Amazon offer.

It says in the website that it can be as upgrade to an existing line. My question is, what if your line is not eligible for upgrade yet. Will your bill show up with the list price after a month or two? Has anyone encounter this yet?
If you are not yet qualified, you have to pay full out of contact price which is $399 if you go to an AT&T store or $499 from 3rd party online.

Could be but somehow I doubt it has anything to do with 4G, since the average consumer I don't think knows about 4G or cares at this point. The fact that they are willing to give you the phone for free tells you they know they will make their money back by the end of the contract, with a sizable profit .

Thats what I feel too. The other thought is trying to get people to Att network before the iPhone comes to Verizon or whatever.

i had 10 months left in my contract, and 2 separate phone calls by me (and one by a friend who got the same deal) said that my old contract was being ended, and they would create a new one that started the day the phone was activated. They know if you're eligible for an upgrade - they ask for your phone # and last name. My friend who called had 3 months left on his contract, and was unable to get the deal at first. When he called AT&T, they cleared his contract and he checked on their again -and it was eligible. He ended up buying through ATT because they said they'd match the same deal.

Could you ask him how he got it through AT&T? I just asked a branch store and they said they could not offer the $0.01 deal...
I'm thinking of getting one off contract for $400. (don't wanna get locked in to Rogers - $400 voice cancellation + $100 data cancellation, 3 yr contract).
What have your experiences been like with unlocking? I heard ATT is refusing to unlock, and unlock codes go for up to $40 online...
When I was in-store the other day, I'm pretty sure the sale price on the Focus said until 1/31. I think it's only good for a couple more weeks, but we'll see.

Already Pre-Oredered my Galaxy Note II GT-N7100

I placed my pre-order for my Galaxy Note II at MobileCityOnline already. It's the same price I paid for my GT-N7000 last October and from the same source. So far they're the only vendor I found (from my search of the web) even offering/accepting pre-orders for the Note II.
They've always been a great place to buy anything mobile. This will be my 4th phone from them and they really are incredible. You get good prices, great service, and most of all - fast & FREE shipping plus I don't get stuck with all those BS taxes that would've been added on if I bought from a nearby B&M store. I've never had a problem with them, ever.
I'm not trying to sound like a commercial and NO I don't work for them, I don't work at all, but they're the real deal. The only thing that sucks are the price drops after a few months but that's what goes with being an early adopter. After almost a year the GT-N7000 is still commanding $550 which really isn't bad, it's buying accessories that suck. I'm sticking with just the necessary items this time like just one case, screen protectors, and maybe spare battery.
If anyone finds a better deal please share and pass it on in here so we ALL can take advantage of the deal and save some cash.
Almost a grand a year on a smartphone is crazy - not including the phone and data services - is getting old FAST! I'm sticking with this 5.5", Exynos Quad-Core for a while despite getting the same GPU with it. This beast should handle anything I intend on using it for.
***Update***
I'm here now to officaially eat crow - after having been told story after story I have decided to go with Handtec simply because the good nature another member - you know who you are - I even have my FedEx tracking number. Come Tuesday I'll be smokin' on my GT-N7100 after all!
For how much will they have it?
I want one too, but I need to sell my Note 1 first.
Can't justify that to the wife.
They're asking $699 FREE shipping, NO TAXES, and your card isn't charged until it leaves MobileCityOnline's warehouse. Really at this point you can't lose since most vendors price gouge ANYONE who ever pre=orders!
Good luck selling your GT-N7000. I'm handing mine down to wife who's still stuck on an Sprint EVO 4G. Happy hunting and good luck - if you find a better deal could you please share it here
I'm no John D. Rockefeller, but, I can tell you this, if you find it less at some other vendor do your homework before you buy from anyone!
***as a family we've decided 2 give our still incredible smartphones 2 those serving our country***
Just sold my old note 1 yesterday! €300 for a 9 months old phone! Can't wait for the new note 2.
But from a note to a desire hd is terrible......

I'm going to get the second note, but I'm not in a rush at the moment. So I'll wait for their October release and then get it in November. I am still enjoying my original note . hehe.
Oh! EDIT! I Thought I'd add that if a Nexus device comes out with 5 inches or more I'd probably get THAT just for the updates.
Heres someone trying to drum up business if I ever saw it.

Per ordered the note 2 with mobilecityonline as other sites were charging from 725 to 750...I live in Canada and the shipping is only 29 so it's only 729 with shipping and no taxes
HK is releasing them very soon, and shipping very soon. already priced at 677USD
There is nothing wrong with a pre order thread.
I don't believe there is a confirmed released price yet, so it doesn't matter where you pre order from yet. All prices are subject to change.

I'm not even sure there are confirmed specs yet, lol. What is the advantage to ordering it this early?
That having been said, I don't think he's trying to sell it, he's just ordered this way in the past and hasn't regretted it, so I'm sure he won't this time.
It seems as though the AT&T version should be out fairly soon (like with the SGS 3), and the specs might actually be as good or better, so I'm gonna try to wait for the subsidized version. Especially since I can probably sell this one for as much as AT&T will be asking for the new one.

The advantage is, if you decide you want it, you'll be first in line to get one.
And of course, if you don't, you can always cancel at anytime.
It depends on a lot of things, but ordering something on release day can mean a hefty wait
while preorders get filled.

I wish one for me !!!! ♥
To those who obviously CANNOT READ -I clearly stated I DON'T WORK, I'm disabled...so I clearly am NOT - got it - NOT drumming up business for anyone in anyway. I'm simply sharing what I believe to be important money saving information. My comments are from my experiences with MobileCityOnline.
Also, FYI, last year when I pre-orded from MCO this same price was posted for my current Galaxy Note. Interestingly, 2 or 3 weeks they happened to raise the price of the GT-N7000 by almost $100. MCO did a ballsy thing, they honored the pre-ordered price. For me personally they earned my loyalty. I'll never buy an unlocked and international smartphone from anyone else!
From that point on whoever either P-O or @ the time ordered, since they received stock were stuck with the higher price PLUS had to pay for shipping. The free shipping was part of the P-O package. So to all those who ask what are the advantages of pre-ordering I say there are plenty of reasons. Your reasons may not be the same as mine but the fact remains there are definitely advantages of doing so.
Now to the morons who can't seen to get a grip with the fact I do not work for MCO in any capacity - I say if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. I'll gladly provide proof of why I am disabled in the form of pictures showing the zippers I received from the 22 surgeries that caused my situation which are personal anyway. But to shut you up is gladly do whatever out takes to back up any words that come out of my mouth.
By doing so I request you eat you're crow by publicly retracting your immature words via a simple reply to this thread. I don't enjoy your punky disposition or your questioning or you spewing false statements for your pleasure!

Using disability money to buy new phones every year while earning some side cash by being a shill.
Our tax dollars hard at work it looks like.
Ya know.. I would first figure out what or how he got disabled before making a comment like that. In fact.. I wouldn't make a comment like that at all. Imagine if he was a decorated vet.. someone who bled for the country.
Again.. not knowing who familyman's story.. but just making some observations.

Pixel CANADIAN DISCUSSION

The title is in all caps because I felt like yelling
I hoping Koodo will at least get it online. As excited as I always get for new nexus devices, I am worried about Canadian pricing.

I have a feeling it will start at $750-$800 CAD for the base model. Looks like it won't be a budget phone anymore...

Budget phone or not, I will be getting XL for sure, I am hoping the hardware doesn't vary too much or I will need both somehow.

I have a 6P and will likely be going with the Pixel (non XL) upon release. I caved in and got the 6P last year even though I hate phablets, and although it's an amazing phone, I still find it too big to this day. 5-5.2" is my sweet spot. Will buy from play store directly like 6P and N5 before, easier this way especially for warranty imho, unless Videotron in Quebec (likely) or Fido/Virgin/Koodo (unlikely) have it at launch as they all have decent 6GB/60$ BYOP plans ; not Bell/Rogers/Telus.
I'll sell my 6P (pretty sure I can get 300$ for the 32GB still under warranty) so that should offset the, I assume, 750$ish price range for the smaller Pixel. The only major turn off for me is front facing speaker ; I will really, really miss those, especially if the bezels are as thick as the leaked renders/pictures (I'M SURE THERE IS ROOM GOOGLE, WHY? :'( )
And the phone better be f'ing amazing at that price (or really nice at a more decent 600$ish price).*
If the price starts at 650USD which in Canada means 845CAD$ + tax = 975CAD$ I'm out.
I will buy a Iphone 6S probably,

Just kidding!
I'll keep the 5X, it's a good phone.
Available now on google play store 1033cad ! way too much for me!
Pixel pre order has been placed ?. Did the phablet on the 6 and went back to the 5x size last year. Bigger isn't always better ?
I pre ordered thru a contract with Telus. $200 up front on a 2 year contract. Looking forward to shipment.

How much is your monthly plan?
Only $12 more than previous contract for Nexus 5 two years ago, which completed by chance in September.
Cell and data bills in Canada are crazy, though. I support openmedia.ca 's efforts.
Total though, $80? I would imagine half of that would go to pay the phone off.
115ish after Data and nationwide calling...expensive
Just ordered my Pixel. Added a new line to my account (Telus) and the phone was 0$ .. Already have 6gb shared data.. so a new plan is 84$ a month taxes included. So it cost me 17$ (sim cost) to order this phone. And comes with 100$ Google play credit!

My monthly bill for the last 2 years was only $12 less then this. I am glad it is not free if the change in bill would be lots higher and it would cost me lots more in long run.
$12 x 24 months + $200 = $488 Pixel at end of contract. Compared to $1033 as someone saw, it is a good deal for me.
Just preordered it from bell for 399 on a 2 year contract. Can't wait for it to come. I think this phone will definitely be worth it.

I pre-ordered 2 black 128GB's yesterday from Rogers for $329 each. The demand for the phone doesn't appear to be that high though judging from my position in the line-up -- I'm 47 in the line-up, and that's after placing my order one week after the device was announced...
With Rogers, if you pre-order, you get 2GB of data extra to add to your plan for 12 months, a free Chromecast and a $50 Play Store credit. And that's per device. Not bad.
