Samsung Vibrant to only cost $330 OFF CONTRACT? - Vibrant General

Its seems that the fine folks at phandroid have stumbled across this little nugget of info tucked neatly away in the fine print of the Samsung Vibrant's shop page.
†On approved credit. $82.50 down payment, plus 3 monthly payments of $82.50, required. 0% APR. Taxes & fees additional. Available only at T-Mobile-owned retail stores; see store for details.
phandroid.com/2010/06/30/samsung-vibrant-to-cost-330-off-contract-galaxy-s-fine-print/
If u do the math that equates to $330. I hope T-Mobile plays it smart and doesn't change the price before launch, because I definitely assumed the off contract price would be $450-$550
In any event, there also seems to be a "REAL" screen cap of the actual price tag on the page before TMO decided to remove it. Here's the link to that also...

Jesus Christ. Do you seriously think that the Nexus One retails for $529 but THIS phone - which is better in every.single.way is going to retail for $330?
That's quite literally one of the stupidest things I think i've read in a long, long time.

Personally, Im pretty sure the phone is going to cost $500+ because the on contract price vs. this supposed on contract price doesn't make sense and this also bucks the trend of previous costs associated with phones of this level.
However, it would be a nice (and courageous) move on TMO's part with this slightly, in comparison, paired down galaxy s model to move units.
Anyway, I thought I would share this sliver of hope with the TMO faithful lol.

This just reminds me of the entire "Project Dark" / EM+ debacle where some blogs reported errors/rumors as facts of an upcoming program. So when EM+ came out, the news wasn't that TMO cut their pricing, it was that they didn't live up to the hype that some bloggers posted about false pricing info.
Same damn thing now. People ARE going to be disappointed if they think that in any reality (normal or alternate) TMO is going to sell this phone for $330 without a contract to recoup the cost of the device.
also, this phone is a $750 phone unlocked:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...w?ie=UTF8&qid=1277908710&sr=8-1&condition=new

If you look at the T-mobile site now it says "125 down, with 3 monthly payments of 125" thus making the phone in the $500 range

as you said, that price has been pulled down, and curently at the bottom of the page is of the info screen (when you go to their web and shop for phones, and then for samsung phones) it shows:
"†On approved credit. $125 down payment, plus 3 monthly payments of $125, required. 0% APR. Taxes & fees additional. Available only at T-Mobile-owned retail stores; see store for details...."
others have reported off contract pricing at $439 / $439 and some at $499
we'll see this week

I was told by tmo to call on tuesday to find out the pricing of the phone

Im going to try that to find out how much it cost with the Equipment Installment Plan

Store rep told me that it'd be at the lowest, similar priced to the HD2 or about 479. She said it won't go any lower than that.

The Vibrant is defiantly NOT better in every single way.
The Nexus one Has a Bluetooth car dock, No word about anything like that for the Galaxy S phones.
The Nexus One is made out of much much better materials, The vibrant feels cheap in the hand and the body looks cheap, the only thing on the Vibrant that looks better is the screen.
The Vibrant has no FLASH, How some one could make a High end Android phone without a flash is beyond me, but oh well.

Mad, No, I come off as mad ?
I'm just saying it's not better in every way, overall I think it's better in terms of hardware like the GPU, Screen and it's file sharing capabilities.
I would agree with him if the Vibrant was built from better material and had a flash, hell I would call it a Droid and EVO killer if it had a front facing camera in addition to the flash and better material but there is too much missing to call it that.
I just bought this to hold me over until project Emerald comes out in November

Contemplating Switching to the EVO

I have done the research, and I have been anticipating the release of some sexy android phones on my current AT&Crap Service, and am at the point of pissed off because the lack of android selection, and their restrictive android behavior.
Now, I obviously know the EVO is a better phone, here is my question. Is it worth paying the $85 Termination Fee's on my Fuze, and jumping ship to the Everything Data- 450minutes Plan $69.99 (can get company discount to make it $55.99).
Are you guys happy with your Sprint Converage, and 3G speeds? (I will be using this phone majority in 3G area (buffalo) for the next year, and then will be in Long Island (hopefully getting 4G from NYC in the next 4 months).
Does anyone have Sprint in Long Island/Buffalo, can you gimme some opinions.
Thanks again.
GO ANDROID SENSE!! 1GHZ SNAPDRAGON
I am on the other side of the country, so can't speak to the Sprint service there, but I am paying $140 to terminate my iPhone plan early to get the Evo. I already switched the rest of the family to Sprint from AT&T and when I have switched on Friday I will save almost $100 monthly. I sold my 3GS last week for $400 so the cost of the Evo and my ETF are covered.
Why are you interested in EVO? Screen size? Or front facing camera?
Have you looked at HTC Incredible (Sense UI) or Nexus One (stock Android UI - soon to have Android 2.2)?
I looked at the Incredible very closely when it was released and almost pulled the trigger. Two things stopped me...the cost of the Verizon plans and the fact that if I didn't like it I would have to pay a restocking fee for the phone. Sprint's 30 day policy is totally cost free if you decide to cancel. The Nexus One would keep me at AT&T or off to T-Mobile and I don't care for the T-Mobile service.

I'm in the same boat, the Cost of the Verizon plan is approximately $20 more with less features.
Now you reminded me about the Nexus One ATT Compatible Version, however it can not be purchased without a discounted price.
So now i have to weight my options of, switch to Sprint, be on a separate plan from my family (cause my Mom and Brother are Not technologically sound and have a 3GS and 3G Respectively). Which will be $199.99 for the EVO and $55.99 +Fee and Taxes a month.
Or i could purchase an unbranded ATT Compatible Version of the nexus one for $529.00 ......
here's something else that might sway you to the Sprint side:

Yea, I read that earlier, However I currently have the $30 unlimited plan, so if i stay with AT&T I would just keep that. No point in saving $5 for the chance of going over, especially if i get the nexus one, there would be endless downloading from my end.
I'm paying a $70 ETF to leave AT&T for the Evo. I also have a Fuze, and it's seen it's better days. I doubt it'll even last till my contract is up. So I could pay full price for one of AT&T's crappy phones, or I can pay the ETF and get the Evo. It was an easy decision for me..

The reason i'm wanting to switch is not cause my fuze is dieing or failing, but i am a true techie, and want the newest gadget... also cause i think its time for an upgrade.. lol so yea...I believe i will be doing the same as you...
or I'll get a Nexus One, and just let my Dad continue Paying for my service (I'm 21, so it might be time for me to be independent..in that case Sprint+EVO Here I come)

$500? Must have been a 32GB unlocked one? Good on ya either way because it will be close to cost neutral!
to the OP... dont forget the added $10/month fee for EVO/Premium data charge.
I dont know about the coverage and quality of service in the areas you asked about... but it cant be any worse than AT&T.
then add on the new pricing plans for data... which dont apply to you NOW.. but I think they will find a way to pop you; if not now.. soon in the not to far future!
30-day guarantee
Sell your fuze for a few bucks on craiglist.
The gravy on top of all this.. is that you get an EVO / android.. without the service provider killing all the good things on it!

i'm thinking about paying the ETF on 3 of 4 lines on family shared (mine is contract free since i never got upgrade phone with them); total cost will be $340 (that's what the rep told me yesterday) to terminate the 3 lines; probably can sell Iphone 3GS for about $400 and my N1 for $300-350 so that can cover most of the cost
also, i'll get 23% discount with Sprint for all recurring monthly charges
Edit: will need to unlock the Iphone first since unlocked ones sell for more (although the Ebay/Paypal fees will take a good chunk of it)

I've been playing with EVO for few days and have mixed feelings about it. I normally use Nexus One (T-Mobile's coverage is working ok for me in the Bay Area), so I'm comparing EVO with Nexus One.
Good:
- front facing camera
- kick stand. You'll be amazed how convenient it is. Everything: typing, browsing, watching videos, video calling is much easier with the stand.
- buttons are significantly better than on Nexus.
Bad:
- screen size and overall phone size. I'm not convinced about 4.3 inch screen running at 480x800 resolution. I think if Android starts supporting higher resolutions, it may make 4.3 inch screen worth it.
But for now, I think 480x800 looks good enough on 3.7 inch screen. Of course, EVO's screen is beautiful (and is much brighter in the daylight than Incredible or Nexus), but for me EVO would be too large of a device to carry around all the time (e.g. pocket is out - need to have a belt clip).
- Sense UI. I prefer stock Android UI both for the cleaner (although admittedly simpler) look and for the speed of the OS updates.

So you think the Nexus One is a Better Option.
I am switching from Verizon to Sprint (Currently have the HTC Titan) you just can't beat their prices, especially since we are on a 5 person family plan. And now my wife is able to have a smart phone (She got the Palm Pixi) for less than Verizon was charging us us for only one smart phone.
Here in L.A. coverage is great, and a buddy of mine did a speed comparison side-by-side with is iPhone 3G and Sprint was notably faster. Can't speak to other areas, but uh, hey, there's a map for that. LOL!

I think they are comparable and it just depends on how you use the phone (and of course network). I don’t like my phones to be bulky and heavy, so I personally wouldn’t trade Nexus One for EVO even if anybody offered that to me. I also have no problems with T-mobile, unless I get to the rural areas, but that of course depends on your area.
For me Nexus One wins because of the stock UI (my Nexus already runs test version of Android 2.2 which I installed manually and it will have an official 2.2 in few weeks) and smaller size/weight (yet same resolution as EVO).
EVO obviously has better cameras, better screen (Nexus’s screen looks poorly under sunlight), but Sense UI + EVO’s size/weight are showstoppers for me. I don’t want HTC bugs on top of the Android OS (for example, I’ve never seen the sd card permissions errors on either Nexus or G1 while using camera app, but have seen it on EVO) and I don’t want to wait extra 6 months or more for the Android updates.

That didn't take long.
Ha, almost $500. Amazing how close it is in price (without contract) to a gently used Nexus One. Thank you for pointing this out.
I'm getting rid of my T-Mobile N1 because it sucks on AT&T (which I'm also stuck on due to insistent family members). I had bought the T-mobile version before any tech blog hinted that an AT&T version was coming out.
So anyway, Best Buy is offering this phone for $130 w/contract, with no silly $100 mail-in rebate for "AT&T cash" or whatever the hell it is. Yay!

take a look at the aria specs 1st, you may want to trade your tmo N1 for an ATT N1.... :2cents:
Unsubsidized it's overpriced, for sure. There is only $30.00 between that and a new N1.

I did research the specs, thanks... according to the results, its speed is comparable to the N1 despite the lower processing power (http://www.mobileunderground.info/showthread.php?t=14408). And it's been difficult to find someone who'd trade in this area... so I'll just use the extra $ to pay for textbooks. But thanks for your thoughts.
Attn1: It's funny how they overprice it (unsubsidized) and then throw a lot of $10 AT&T services in there that they hope you'll buy. Hopefully we can delete these when someone develops root or a rom for this....
I heard this phone will be available at costco for $99 (upgrade price) or 49.99 if you're a new customer.
AT&T's no commitment pricing is $379.00. That makes that $499.00 EBay price a huge ripoff.
It's $499 at my Best Buy. And I hate that they only have dummies so I couldn't even play with it.

Well, on Ebay you can sell the N1 and pretty much acquire an AT&T version for almost the same money.
I don't think that AT&T's $379.00 no contract pricing is out of whack for an Aria, really when compared to phones like the HTC Magic and the HTC Hero (GSM) which both cost more.
I know what you mean about those $10.00 services though. That you can't remove that software without root access is cheesy at best, but it's not the end of the world, either.
The only extra cost services are AT&T Nav and AT&T Music. AT&T Maps is free (albeit unnecessary). Family Map is preloaded, but these things are easy enough to ignore until it's rooted. It's not like they're the only carrier to load their programs on. I doubt that everyone on Sprint is way into Nascar, but it's usually there.
It's a great little phone that's more powerful than the specs would let on. It's smooth and fast. Mine was only $92 with my upgrade and fan discount so I couldn't resist. I don't want another iPhone so this is the best alternative at the moment.
btw, they didn't block Google Maps Nav like I thought they might and it works great.

I agree with you there. I got mine yesterday and it seems to handle 2.1 better than the N1 did! Of course, there are no live backgrounds... but I can have 7 apps running and it's still smooth, unlike the N1 which could handle only 3 or 4 apps before it lagged (on mine anyway... and using "end app" management programs at the same time... before I had upped it to 2.2).

AT&T CMO David Christopher talks Android, Atrix pricing

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/02...pher-talks-android/?section=magazines_fortune
Author thinks that "[atrix price] seems very agressive". WTF is he smoking?
I wouldn't call it aggressive but I'd call it competitive, given the larger market. They could have asked $299 instead of $199 and they'd have gotten it.
Consider the GalaxyS phones which were still $199 a month ago, and the Atrix is supposed to be more phone (i.e. fingerprint security and a working GPS<G>). Sure, today there are retailers selling the GalaxyS unlocked and off contract for $199 and the cellcos are asking anywhere from a penny to $49...But that's the nature of smoke and mirrors.
I expect, or at least hope, the resellers will be asking $149 to beat AT&T's $199. Not aggressive, but not as piggypiggy as they normally are, either. For an AT&T employee, anything less than "Your firstborn and your wallet" is probably a radical concept.
Remember, they're still trying to convince us that phones which wholesale for $100-200 really cost them $600. (Don't you love the new math?!)
Author thinks that "[atrix price] seems very agressive". WTF is he smoking?[/QUOTE]
He is smoking the highest quality crack rolled up in our hundred dollar bills. "Aggressive"? Yes it's aggressive towards our wallets. If att doesn't straighten out their billing philosophies they will be losing customers like mad. I really hope verizon puts out some cheap unlimited plan and they steal as many iphone users as possible.
I still don't understand the "aggressiveness" over the pricing. $200 is reasonable - it is what I had paid for iPhones every year in the past, and I believe At&t is pricing the Atrix similarly because it is a direct competitor for the iPhone 4.
As far as the laptop dock pricing goes, who cares? The laptop dock is essentially a useless bell/whistle. How many of you own laptops? (most of you probably do) Your laptop is much more powerful than this webtop os. Motorola is just showing what the phone can do. It's an uneccesary extra, especially since the laptop dock requires the tethering plan... when you can just tether to your actual laptop.
Nerds are all up in arms because it's going to cost $500 to showcase their coolness with the latest and greatest piece of redundant technology.
I'm ok with the phone pricing and can't wait for it to come out. I gladly sold and shipped out my iPhone 4 for this beauty. March 6th can't come soon enough.

I apologize if it sounded derogatory. I'm a nerd myself - and a huge one at that.
My implications were, that the dock is essentially nothing more than a keyboard and screen, and it seems silly to piss and moan over a $500 price point. Is it overpriced - Yes. Does the tethering plan tack-on make sense - eh, maybe. Do we need this accessory for any reason other than to show it off (assuming you own a laptop/netbook) - absolutely not. To me it seems more like a no-brainer, and if it evokes any response/thought it is that I am almost glad it's $500 - at least I wont be tempted in the store when I go to pick up the Atrix.

I agree. The only thing I might buy is the multimedia dock with keyboard/mouse, that way i can use it to mess around with what (hopefully) can be a full linux distribution on a phone and make it a second comp of sorts that I can have at my desk.

That's what all the pissing and moaning is about though--that just a screen and a keyboard costs $500. However, being quick to dismiss it and its potential use is what I was referring to when I made the "painting with a broad brush" remark. So, apologies for coming off snarky. I don't mean to bring about any conflict here.
However, I ask you what kind of laptop do you have, and what are its primary uses? I have an HP HDX16 which is a 16" 16:9 laptop workhorse that is a nice do-everything machine when it comes to gaming, media, and graphic design. However, one thing it is not great for is internet surfing. My battery lasts 2 hours tops, it's a larger sized laptop, and while I don't consider it heavy, it is certainly much heavier than the Atrix's lapdock. Maybe you need to carry such a machine with you everywhere you go, but I have a ****ton of textbooks I need to carry in my backpack and the only thing I need to use my laptop for on campus is to surf the web and write notes in a word processor. The Atrix nails that, and makes me salivate at the thought of not having to take a charger with me/8 hours of battery life.
I'm just saying that there's more practical uses for it than just surfin' the internet while you poop.
No, it isn't aggressive. I think 200 should be the limit for subsidized phones; hell it costs around that fir them to buy it anyway (from China or wherever it is made).
If it were really aggressive, the laptop dock wouldn't be more than 150 since it is just a screen and a battery; keyboard.
They also wouldn't charge for tethering. That would actually make it a real threat to other phones.
With the pricing now, I can only see business people and maybe small enterprise or serious bloggers picking this up.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
150?
Some of you guys are kidding yourselves regarding the dock. 150 makes little sense. First you have a dock so lets say $60 then a keyboard say $40. Then a HD led screen $150-200 on its own easy. Yes the dock is to expensive, but I would say that it should cost between 200-300 regular. Maybe if ATT was being generous they would make a bundle with the dock costing 150 and the phone 150 with the purchase of the tethering plan. Thats just my .02.
agreed with acPIZZA. I've had a netbook for about a year now. It's nothing special but gets 7-9 hour battery life and allows me to do basic computing tasks on it. Getting the laptop dock would be redundant.

Your pricing is so out of wack I dont' even know where to start.
The laptop dock probably costs them $100 to manufacture. I've put projects like this together, so I'm pretty confident in this cost structure from a CM perspective. This is just them gouging the early adopters. It will probably come down to 2-300 pretty fast, and probably under 200 toward the end.

How much does a good laptop battery go for nowadays?
Ultimately, they're here to make money. Of course it's going to be "high" compared to their production price. =/

I never said it wouldn't be. My point was that the previous poster was putting together consumer products and making an incorrect assumption.
The phone is priced at a steal, the accessories not so much. If you're looking for just the phone this is a great deal.

xoom only COSTS Best Buy $550!! WTF.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ps-to-1199-99-but-it-costs-best-buy-just-550/
So this makes me think that the price will be significantly lower than $1200 or $800. If not at Best Buy, someone else who can deal with less than 40% margins will sell this thing in the $6-700 range.
F*** Best Buy and their either 45% or even more obscene 118% markups.

+1 Clearly it did...
They think they can place apple price point/margin(actually even more than apple!) without any track record to proove it... Its ridicules... They clearly want to gouge the first adopters, and a month later i can guarentee they will drop the price by 200$ (especially when ipad 2 is unveiled...)
Its a sad day that im considering and ipad 2 over xoom/other android 3.0 cause of PRICE.
$1,999 is a placeholder price.

Update: We've heard rumblings that this is indeed just a place holder -- much like the way other companies price products they don't want to sell at ridiculous levels -- and the final price will indeed be the $800 we've heard most consistently to this point.

Also, it isn't as if the Xoom will be the only quality Honeycomb device out there. If it cost too much for your taste, wait until cheaper 3.0 tablets arrive. Looking at the trend so far most Honeycomb tablets have almost the exact same specifications anyways.

That's crazy. When I worked at Best Buy a few years back, I found little (if any) markup on almost all laptops. Apparently they've decided that the Xoom is a different story.
I'd like to think that purchasing at a Verizon store will be a different story, but I'm sure there are all kinds of deals in place to keep prices uniform across the industry. It would probably be cheaper getting one shipped from Europe.
Oh well. I'm thinking the Galaxy 10.1 looks better than the Xoom anyway, so maybe I'll stick around to see how it turns out.

I hear ya there, SD card slot is a must in my mind for a tablet.
Love the design of the Tab 10.1 though, the backing looks so ergonomic.
If the xoom is locked down to modding like most other motorola stuff, the sd card won't be that big of a draw.
The markup is nuts, hence why I think you may be able to talk bestbuy into doing it out the door for 800, with the mobile service (that you can cancel).

Didn't motorola state the SD slot on the Xoom wont work until they patch it at a later date? or am i thinking of another CES tab?

BB is probably trying to make some margin on the first few suckers (oops, customers). Expect a big price drop in a few months like the Galaxy tab.

You do realize a tablet like this would be price controlled by Verizon correct? Verizon controls prices of phones, just like ATT, Sprint, and Apple do.
@Xevilious : little margin is still made on laptops

I am all for companies making money. But I must say, knowing that the device cost BB 550$.. I am no longer okay with Verizon forcing me to buy unwanted 3g for a month cranking up the already high price an unnecessary, and frankly incredibly expensive 1GB of data.

well you have to take into consideration that BB is probably not going to make a killing on this product. If they were confident that they would sell a lot of Xooms, the price would be less. They would be able to make up for it in volume.
I agree about the mandatory Verizon data but from my understanding you have three days to cancel it and get your money back for that. I myself am going to keep the months worth of data...I've always been with AT&T and am curious about Verizon's service in my area.

You might be surprised what they will do if there is still profit to be made. You can negotiate on just about all big ticket items, especially at the end of the quarter when they want to increase revenue numbers. Never hurts to ask for something like 5 or 10 percent off. Worked for me on a digital camera I wanted and a stove. They took another $200 off my stove, even beat the internet prices I found.

As I said earlier pricing is controlled by Verizon
And that employee cost that you see, is not always the price that Best Buy pays for an item. Tablets that require internet activation are in an entire different realm of pricing structures (especially since this is a Verizon tablet).

trust me, BB gives it's opinion to Verizon on what it wants to sell any given item for in their store and Verizon takes that opinion into account when pricing. BB doesn't have to carry any given device.... and Verizon or any other carrier has to work with them on price(as well as many other aspects) if Verizon wants that device in store. You can be sure Verizon's pricing would be different if they anticipated BB would sell tons more of them than they will currently.
All I am saying is this: if this tab was going to sell like the iPad, the price would be less. Verizon nor BB have the luxury of making their profit thru volume with this device.

I know Best buy gives its opinion, but at the end of the day, its out of my hand. There are certain things like I said, that are price controlled regardless of how much Best Buy buys the item from. I'm sure Verizon also wants best buy to sell tons of xooms. During this past holiday I saw more people sold on buying tablets than laptops, sure the initial price is high, relative to what you get, but I'm sure it will come down.
And for what its worth, even though people here are complaining about the high price, this device will be extremely popular.
That being said if I see anything more in best buys system I'll try and post/make note of it

Great One M9 deal for anyone in the UK....

Hey everyone just wanted to say there is a great deal for the HTC One M9 currently on mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, you can grab it on EE with double speed 4G, 1000minutes, unlimited Texts and 2GB data for only £28.50 a month and £80 (price has since increased to £129 as of 18/03) upfront.
This works out at £764, the EXACT same deal is on EE's website for £1064. Thats a £300 saving right there, you can shave another £31.50 off if you join topcashback and use their cashback link! I challenge anyone to find a better deal
- Adam
Thats a great deal. I literally ordered from EE about an hour ago, came here to brag and read this. The tariff I have ordered (4gb data) works out about £460 cheaper over the term of the contract on that site! Will be calling up to cancel tomorrow I think. Are there any disadvantages to not ordering direct from the network provider? Had a very quick chat with EE online sales and they went on about my first line of support for any issues would be seller and not EE. 1. Is this true? and 2. Does it even matter if this is the case?

I'm glad to be a help to answer your questions 1). Yes 2). not at all, I would argue that MPD provide a better support service than EE anyway! (even if there were disadvantages it wouldn't be £460 worth of disadvantages!)
The price difference is crazy! another reason for me to jump ship direct from EE was that they would no longer give me my £8 loyalty discount (i guess im not a loyal customer anymore) apparently they dont do those discounts anymore. That being said it still would have worked out more expensive!
If you really need that 4GB Data you can go for the £33.49 plan on MPD it has a £89 upfront cost for the phone but if you use the code USWM154 it nearly halfs that down to £50, overall it works out costing about £90 extra over the 2GB plan i got. Both plans have that Double Speed 4G aswell.
Let us know how everything turned out - Adam

Order with EE cancelled and order placed with MPD. So instead of £70 handset and £43.50 pm I got £50 handset (with code) and only £33.50 pm on exactly the same deal! When I rang to cancel they asked for my reason and I explained the situation and they didn't seem bothered in the slightest.

I'm amazed at how Samsung can put bleeding-edge hardware inside their phones and still price them LOWER than htc while maintaining a bigger profit margin.
The M9, even with last year's technology, is till more expensive than the S6.

The more phones you sell the more profit you make. You can make a smaller profit from each unit but if you sell a whole bunch more units than the competition your still going to end up better off. Let's not forget the M9 also has bleeding-edge hardware.

I think it's more down to Samsung making their own tech while htc just repackages.
Remember, the NAND, storage, RAM, CPU, display, SoC, and almost everything else in the S6 was built in-house.
Also, the M9 doesn't have bleeding-edge hardware. The display is the same as the M8. The SD 810 is on a 20nm fab node, which is 2014 Q4 tech. It's mostly last-gen technology, yet it's more expensive than the S6, which has technology that htc will use next year.

I said the same thing after using the plastic POS Galaxy S3.
I felt the S6 and the M9 in hand and I was shocked at how high-quality the S6 is. It felt like a luxury car just like what reviewers and other people have said. The M9 felt like an ordinary device in comparison to the S6.
TW also doesn't lag a bit. The M9 had a few stutters that only made me think the S6 is a true premium phone while the M9 is just an ordinary Android phone.

14nm is bleeding edge but NOT practical or profitable for anyone but the greatest semicons due to high volume.
The process node hasn't even ramped up yet so the yields will still be low and the kinks in it still high = high costs. I bet there is fab under-utilization too.
Samsung is relying on 20mill units per month, so what do you expect. HTC only get 0.5mill per month, at most making it entirely unfeasible and very dear for them.

Out of interest, do these guys supply an unbranded handset? The only reason I ask is EE is about to switch on WiFi calling, and have stated it will only work on EE branded handsets direct from them, ie. EE Rom.
Now I know you could flash the EE firmware onto a unbranded handset, but that might not be comfortable for many people.
