Nice find. Looks promising. Way better than S5 in this regard.

I think the S6 camera is going to be a winner. I hate using the camera on my S4. I try not to use it anymore, because I know the picture is going to be blurry, unless I'm outside.

Just the camera makes it already my next phone

I love the double-tap to launch camera, but won't that create lag in all single-click scenarios? Since the phone is briefly waiting (e.g., .5 seconds) to field a potential second click, it cannot assume that the first click is a command to go to the home screen. Accordingly, rather than going instantly to the home screen, it will always lag ever so slightly. I seem to remember something like this with S-Voice on my S3, which I had to disable because I couldn't stand the lag it created. You can definitely see the lag in the first video @ 1:33.

If someone is not understanding german :
This guy is really excited about the cameras picture quality and quickness in lowlight conditions. He said that samsung created the best smartphone camera he has ever seen (also in comparison to the iphone6 and note4). He compared the note 4 cam with the s6 cam and the result is, that s6 cam is faster!

This camera is AMAZING especially in low light, this is exactly what I was waiting for from Samsung

Sample video with zooming.

That's not even recorded at 1080p.

Some new samples from GSMARENA - http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_s6_second_encounter-review-1223p3.php
Some 1:1 crop:

Bummer, I answered my question above. There is, in fact, a lag when pressing the home button if you enable the "double-tap to launch camera" option. The phone has to wait to field a potential second click and thus delays before bringing you to the home screen when you single-click the button. See here at 11 min 37 sec, where the reviewer specifically tests for the lag:

If you have 'double-tap to open an app' as an option, there will be certain delay when you single-tap. It was same with S-Voice previously, now camera.
The most obvious sequence here would be like (with double-tap enabled):
User presses Home button -> The system receives the input and waits to check if there is another tap input -> (If) there is no further tap within a specific 'threshold', it takes you to Home screen -> (If) it records another tap within specific threshold, it opens camera/another app as designed.
So, the option for Samsung could be to reduce the threshold time. Now the benefit will be that it will go to Home screen faster if we don't double tap. Negative will be that, if we intend to double-tap, we will have to do it faster. Could also effect long term reliability of Home button. They need to consider all possible consequences.
If double-tap to open camera (any app) is disabled:
User presses Home button -> Take you to Home screen.
Plain obvious that this will be faster.
It better to allow individuals to decide what they want.

[REQUEST] Real world photos

I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these cameras, maybe it's a bit too soon to ask but, can some of you with the camera, post some photos you've taken with it, real world photos from actual owners and not just press shots.
Not really fussed if you've used the built in apps for editing the images you post, as it will just add to the "things you can do with this device" I just want to get the opinions from actual users who have spent their hard earned cash on it and get their points of view about their experience with it, what the performance is like, how good/poor is the daily use image quality of the camera like, whether you think it was worth the £399 etc... etc....
TIA.

I've bought the camera on the very first day of availability, 7th November, directly in London's Samsung flagship store at 5pm when the boxes were brought in I might be the first to have bought the camera officially...
However, on my Flickr account I've collected some pictures that I've made since then.
The lens is amazing, the CMOS chip not so, zooming into pictures details become just a mess of pixels. Or should I say mash?
But it's just a point-and-shooter and it does very good pictures at low light. Unless you don't zoom in too much, that is.

I know it's a bit apple and oranges but which one would you consider this one, or the Sony. I currently have 2 S3s in my household + my current phone is Note 2. Maybe that's a bit too much of the Galaxy goodness, what do you think?

That's your decision... but both of them are not comparable to the Galaxy Camera in my opinion as they don't come with Android/touchscreen/3G.
I think only somebody who really wants those features will buy the Galaxy not because of its picture quality, which is good but far from perfect.

Question re: OIS in video mode

On my Note 2, using image stabilization effectively crops the video frame, which lowers the overall quality and results in this annoying zoom. With the OIS that's in the NOTE 4, do we get the full frame?

The OIS is mechanical on the note 4 so shouldn't where as on the note 2 it is software generated which is why it crops
Uh-oh. This doesn't seem good.
This korean user: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdneth_AKKA has acquired a Note 4. I questioned them about OIS in "4K" (2160p, UHD, whatever) video mode, and it looks like the OIS doesn't function in 4k or 1440p mode - very puzzling since the OIS is mechanical.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm not sure if that's what you meant but ois cannot compensate for subject motion. Only camera motion is corrected by the system. Subject motion needs fast AF and shutter speed.

Perhaps this is dependant on Exynos / Snapdragon? The korean user has a Exynos device, while the test devices at IFA were snapdragon.
That said, I don't see how the SoC could affect OIS.

So this option?
If so, then it could be a exynos thing. That's really annoying, as I know New Zealand is getting the Exynos version. I might have to import a snapdragon version from somewhere, but then it won't have the LTE bands that the exynos one does.
OIS WORKS!
Ok guyz, the problem with OIS was clearly a misunderstanding probably to the lack of more testing the device. Now that man has revised what it said, OIS definitely works:fingers-crossed:
Here is what he exactly said : "" I had good amount of time to play with the video recording features and I want to revise my original impressions. So optical stabilization is always on and it is absolutely fantastic when you compare it to the Note 3 which had no stabilization. Sometimes you forget how shakey your hands really are until you go back to the older device without it. OIS handles pans beautifully, and you can even walk with it if you have stable hands whereas if you tried to walk with the software stabilization on the note 3 (or even walk with the OIS on a SLR camera), it just doesn't work much at all. You can additionally turn on a feature called "video stabilization" but it's only good for still video shots and like the galaxy notes before it, it crops the image.
In short OIS is better than awesome, the "video stabilization" feature is only for still video shots.
Another thing I was to revise is that yesterday, I was out and trying our HDR video at night and everytime I turned on HDR, it would crop the image. However, playing with it further today during daytime, HDR doesn't crop the image. Although I was certain that I didn't have video stabilization enabled, it seems like user error on my part.
And to answer your question WQHD is supported on both the front and rear cameras. Other than HDR being limited to 1080p (I read a lot of places that HDR works on 4K on the S5, I guess they were wrong), I'm really happy with the camera.
Last, I took a photo and uploaded the 7MB to my dropbox. Please check the photo out on my twitter or Google + page that's linked to this channel. The image is pretty darn impressive.""

The Note5 Camera thread - what type of sensor do you have?

Hello and welcome to the Note5 camera thread, here we can share and discuss what's possible with the 16 megapixel back camera with optical image stabilization and the 5 megapixel shooter on the front with wide-angle lens.
One of the cool new features besides DNG RAW capture that arrived with the 5.1.1 update on the S6 and S6 edge earlier is shutter speed control between 1/24000 and 10 seconds. FINALLY. This means better overall control of photography which can only be a good thing. Considering camera2 API apps such as Manual Camera and others more-or-less work with the S6 and S6 edge, we can expect a wider range of controls with these 3rd party apps. How much, we'll find out soon, please post whatever information you find. The following screenshot is from PhoneArena's hands-on.

Now the big question: what kind of sensor(s) does the Note5 have? Do we still have Sony Exmor and Samsung ISOCELL variants? Is it the new, smaller Samsung ISOCELL sensor?
One of the possibilities to find this out, suggested by PhoneArena and others, is installing AIDA64 on the phone and go the the Devices / Camera ID option to see if there's a SONY_IMX(xxx) string or a SLSI (Samsung). Please do so. I'll be looking to post some images taken with the camera and if I can put my hands on this glass/metal beast, I'll take some shots myself.
Are there any hardware improvements over the S6 camera or is it just the same?

New camera performance, quality and flash brightness

Hi there,
So according to Sony the new camera is suppose to be something out of this world. but due to the horrible performance. I had my iphone 4's photos side by side with my z3c and I couldn't tell the difference for most. Therefore, I am very skeptical about what the new camera actually offers.
Another major issue for me was the flash on the phone. Since my first phone with a flash I found it very useful to have as a flash light. the Z3c however was a major disappointment in that area as my old iphone 4 outperforms it by far.
So what I'd like to see is a few photos from the z5c (night time aswell with flash).
Also, I'd like to hear your opinions regarding the new camera/flash and how well they performs

Dude, did you even search on google? Lots of samples pictures there. And yes its much better because the z3c camera is pretty ****.
But if you llke at them samsung note 5 pictures it will crap on the new Z5 phone.... just look at the samples http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/
Look at these camera samples:
http://www.xataka.com/analisis/sony-xperia-z5-compact-analisis
in my opinion it looks so good. I think eprice had a pre-production model or something like this.
The images are so noisy, I wish someone did a one inch sensor, my 808 still takes way better pictures than all of these.

If I compare a zoomed photo between the Z5 and the LG G4 or Samsung S6, I can see a poor quality coming from the Z5.
For instance, I'm talking about the 2nd sample from this link. Go to the chart called "Xperia Z5 vs Z3 vs 6 Plus vs S6 vs G4 indoor camera samples", then find the 2nd group of pictures. Double click on the candle with the label that says "REWINED" (in order to zoom the photo) and compare the quality between the Z5 and the G4/S6.

However, what If we use another camera, like "Google Camera"? I would love to see how the Z5 family work with that camera and know if the quality improves or dimish.

It looks very good, but there is blurring on the top left of every photo (top right in portrait) probably because of misaligned lens. Sony needs to fix their QC problems.
Everything else looks fantastic.
Here are some pictures I just took using z5c stock camera app:

Thanks for that info!
The "Stock Camera" seems to be a bit better than the "Google camera".
However both cameras are nice for me.
There is one thing with the Google camera that i don't understand. The "Size".
If you compare the first sample, there is a big difference in the size (969KB vs 2,67MB).
P.S.: Did you try "HDR" (if available) in the Google Camera?

When looking at the settings in Google Camera, I can only use 8.3 MP for the back camera. Save location is off and there is no option for HDR.

Thanks, I just sent this information using the "Feedback" function within the app. I hope is just something that can be fixed with an app update (something like "add support for Z5 phones" ).
Are there manual camera settings available in the Sony camera app or via a 3rd party app? Especially manual shutter speed selection??

Excellent pics! Have you used Auto mode or some jedi tricks?
According to Xperia blog, the Z5 series was tested by DxOMark and found to be the best overall mobile camera they have tested to date (beating S6, Note series, iPhone 6 plus, etc):

Impressive results by the S7! Will have to wait for the final reviews and pro comparisons for final judgement though.
Night and day difference between the s7 and the rest, almost laughable.
s6 seems better! Oo
What is blurry fog on the s7??? Oo

Pretty sure that's just your cataract acting up, as there is no blurry fog in any of the S7 pictures.
I want full scale photo then we can judge but it seems to be good upgrade over s6

huuu no sorry it's what i see in samples => when you see the teddy bear photo or the face (of the girl) photo... there is a blurry filter.
And also, i see a jepg oily threatment. Especially in low light (hello lg g3 effect).
I own a G4 and no one can deny it's one of the best camera phones on the market. Even though i've made some great photos with it, must say that i'm very impressed with the S7 so far. I would say that S7 is probbably the best camera phone at the moment. Only thing that bothers me a bit is the 4:3 ratio... Anyway, we should all wait for some realworld tests between S7, G5, Mi5, Xperia X and others with finalized software...
Deeeestroys the iPhone cam. Stoked to get mine
Impressive
it's ok but idk if that big upgrade over S6, probably is. this photos does not do much justice, you can get amazing photos from the Note 5 in low light SPECIALLY with tripod, what s7 can do with tripod? can't wait to find out.

I'm pretty sure this is the compromise of the drop to 12mp. Instead of keeping 16mp @ 16:9, they cropped to 4:3 and kept the vertical resolution. I'm just relieved it's not 12mp AND 16:9, I don't think the image would be as good.
According to the camera options on the Samsung S6 Edge Plus, these are the two highest resolutions:
16m (16:9) 5312x2988
12m (4:3) 3984x2988
I have a feeling Samsung just dropped the top option for the S7.
With as good as the G4 camera I have been in love with since I got the phone I am really really excited to get the s7 which gets me back the small size I left in favor of the g4's camera (only changed from my Nexus 5 to the g4 because of the camera).

So what resolution are the 16:9 photos on the S7?

9.1 MP
Now that's very disappointing. I prefer to shoot in 16:9 since I only ever view my photos on 16:9 screens (TV, tablet, phone, computer). I'd like to see a comparison of a 16:9 s6 shot vs 16:9 s7 shot.

That would be a fair and good idea!
We already have a camera thread. Do we need to open a new one.

I think he is just trolling. Looking at his post history, he is posting a lot of S7 camera bashing posts. I think he has the S6 and is butthurt that the camera is better on the S7 so is trying to disprove that, failing in the process. I wouldn't take him on.
