[Q] Need help with Xperia z2 update - Xperia Z2 General

Hello everyone,
I have just returned from Canada and i own an Xperia z2 from Bell Mobility.I have got it network unlocked too.The problem I am facing is with updates of the phone.
here are a few details-
model number- D6503
android version- 4.4.2
build number- 17.1.A.2.55
I want to update the phone to the latest version(4.4.4) but for some reason i can't.whenever i check system update via phone or sony pc companion it says it's already up to date.
Note: the phone is unrooted.
I am a newbie so i dont know a lot about phones.any detailed help is appreciated.
thanks in advance

Hi, although it is network unlocked the device firmware is still Bell Mobility "branded" firmware so it will be up to them to push the update which they clearly haven't yet.
If you want the update now you will need to flash it manually with Flashtool.
This is relatively easy to do and does not require any rooting or hacking.
There is a great guide here on how to use Flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
And here you can find a list of stock .ftf files you can flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759934
I would probably recommend "Canada/USA - unbranded - 1281-9709".
Although this is easy and pretty much flawless I hold no responsibility for anything bad that happens to your phone!
[EDIT] Just thought I had better add, in the Flashtool guide it will tell you to hold the "back" key when connecting your phone to your PC while the phone is switched off. Since we don't have a back key you will need to hold "volume down" for this step instead.

That should be everything you need. Obviously back up your data first! You can choose not to wipe user data in Flashtool but always good to be safe just in case!
Good luck and hit the thanks button :good:

There's only the three links that are on that page, the first one is Dev Share, the other two are Mega Upload. I don't know of any torrents for it I'm afraid.

alright,i will come back as soon as i am done.

If you update via this method, would 5.0 also have to be done this way when Bell pushes it out?

Bootloader unlock page under maintenance

I was planning to unlock my bootloader today. When I tried to open the Sony ericsson page, its showing the page is under maintenance. Are you guys getting the same response from the sever? Or did Sony completely stop the bootloader unlocking?

Same question here. I tried it since yesterday and that feature is under maintenance till now. I am planning to unlock R800i. Did Sony Ericsson stop the bootloader unlocking and if so, any alternative to unlock bootloader may I know? Thanks in advance.
Well, we will see. Hopefully its just a real maintenance, but maybe they are fixing the hole which the guys used to unlock cdma phones.
Let's hope it comes back to life soon!
Regards
I guess they're fixing CDMA keys hole. Looks like Verizon isn't happy about it.
But I don't understand why it takes so long to modify some small piece of code to disable MEID calculator.
Maybe you DDOSed them too much ?

Thanks guys.

succeeded, but with a little problem. Could any1 pls help me?
i followed Bin4ry's guide [How-to] Root your Play.
On the first try of flashing system with play_modded, i got some error message like android.process.acore & android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly, so I soft reset it to factory setting and flash system again and succeeded, with no error message.
But the problem is after the root process, my phone can't detect 3G network. The service provider I am using has two options, 2G and 3G, and phone can only detect 2G network.
Another problem is that although I can find WiFi networks and connect, WiFi connection is not working anymore (no data send/receive through WiFi).
If any of you know how to fix that 3G network & WiFi missing issues, kindly let me know. Thanks in advance.
One more, my rooted play is now on 3.0.A.2.184 build and when I connect it to computer, PC Companion said found new software update and ask me whether want to update or not. Rooting process will be overwritten and I will need to root it again if I update software (base 3.1.A....something I think) I would like to know.
Thank you again.
Regards,
edit : sorry if this post should be under Q & A section, please let me know and I'll open a new thread
Im assuming you have a r800i? If so, my simple recommendation would be to flash 4. Firmware. Then enter fastboot and flash dooms kernel which will automatically root it for you. Hope this helps.

ႊThank you. Could you please elaborate more as I am new to android, or please let me know the location (in this forum?) where I could get detail instructions, like, where to/how to get flash4.firmware, flash dooms kernel?
Thank you again.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I've updated to 4.0.A...(i followed the instructions found here, used X10Flash Tool and Xperia_Relock_bootloader.ftf to get bootloader locked, and use PC Companion to update s/w.

For starters unlock ur bootloader again, as you need it to flash the kernel (which in my opinion is worth keeping), then go over to the developers sub forum, download the UK generic 4.0.whatever the rest of the code is firmware, flash it with flashtool, the go to doomlords thread and download his kernel. All instructions you need are in the relevant threads, easy to follow. I would link them, but I'm away from my computer at the moment. And I cant link from my phone. Sorry. Hope all goes well!

bell GT-i9000m

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else. I have checked the forums, checked youtube and now am finally asking through this.
I recently had my phone unlocked so i could use my rogers card...works great however i'm stuck with no home or back button. I see there's lots of issues and the suggestion is to go back to stock firmware. I've downloaded odin3 1.85 and but can't find the orginal firmware. i've created accounts at sams (firmware/mobile) and still can't find the firmware. Can someone please just tell me the best way to fix this issue? I tried the 2663 FW update and that didn't fix it.
Here's the specs:
pda: i9000ugkg3
phone: i9000ugkg3
csc: i9000bmckg3
If you are looking for the Bell UGKG3 ROM, it's here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
search for UGKG3
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the download gets redirected to megaupload and the site is down.
I tried googling GT_I9000M_UGKG3_UGKG3_BMCKG3_Sbl.exe and nothing, no torrents found anywhere either. Can you recommend another link??
Thanks!
Have you tried sammobile.com?

sammobile does not list UGKG3.
Only Bell ROM it lists is I9000UGKC1, which is Froyo.
Hi,
I became a member specifically to pursue this. I also am looking for the abovementioned files. At this point, assuming that they're not re-upped to another filehoster, and assuming that there's no way to procure them directly from someone at xda, I'm prepared to look for an alternate GT-I9000M rooting method. Starting here: anyone know of an alternate procedure that can be found under the xda aegis?
I want to thank the Canadian members whose advice has already facilitated the rooting and unlocking of my I9100: thank you! thank you! thank you!
Edit: I've been digging through xda, but no luck yet.

Everything download - again a big thank you!
Before i execute i just want to confirm (i'm nervous - no warranty so no exchange)
1. Set unit to USB debug
2. Launch Odin, connect USB
3. Odin msgbox "added"
4. import each file ( pda,phone,csc)
5. execute start
I'm going to leave the default checkboxes checked (f.reset time, auto reboot)
leave re-partition un-checked.
good to go or am i missing anything?

Yes exactly! I've just try it and all is back to stock 2.3.3 for my GT-I9000M
worked perfectly for me.. after putting the unit in 'download mode'.
i'm still having issues with the back and menu button .. both are
still not working.
What do you suggest??
Would someone be able to give me a link for stock 2.2.1 for my model?? I have read a few threads that say loading this and doing the 2663 works. Currently i'm on 2.2.3 stock.
I have downloaded I9000XWJS8.rar but not 100% if its ok for 9000m
thanks!
Also awesome, also thanks! downloading now, will be trying this out soon, and report back.

Hi Altheos,
Firstly just wanted to say thanks for the orginal download. After restoring back to stock with a found JL2 version i was able to finally get the home/back buttons working again YAY. Just curious now that that i've been dorking around on the SGS. How were you able to create the 3partskg3fori9000m(odin) archive with
CSC_BMCKG3.tar.md5
PDA_UGKG3_Sbl.tar.md5
PHONE_UGKG3.tar.md5
Just curious as i've now added mulitple apps and am trying darkyroms latest and would like to image the state my phone is in now for later restore if need be.
I downloaded it some time ago from another source here that went down with megaupload, though I know that if you search for a guide in the forums, you should find various guides.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you're rooted, download spooffw from the market, follow the instructions to spoofit to JL2 then hook up KIES and it will download and install pure stock KG3
just remember to factory reset afterwards so you clear out any memory leftovers.

[FTF] [UK Generic] D6503_17.1.A.2.55_1281-5806-R5A.ftf

this FTF is created from my Phones4u unlocked handset.its UK generic fimware without any bloadware. should work on other unlocked european hanset too. here is the link
https://mega.co.nz/#!txkCQArB!LMVBizNxSHpuqqvgIEPLsQWJPpxvgUXSXr7zYWz8gqw
Here is the quick guide to flash ftf using flash tool.
The first thing that you need to Download last version. Search google for latest version
Step 1 : Download the Flash tool and install it. Open "C:\Flashtool\drivers"
Run the program “Flashtool-drivers” .Check the option “Select components to install” and find the phone for which you want to flash the ftf file In this case Xperia Z2. Select both ”Flashmode drivers” and “Fastboot drivers”. Click the “install” button and wait till drivers are installed on your PC. If you are using window 8.1 64bit, follow this guide to install these drivers
64-Bit editions of Windows require digitally signed drivers. The problem is that many devices ship with unsigned drivers. Today, I'll show you how to install them regardless.
Keep Pressing shift button and select restart.
Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to choose the Troubleshoot option.
Then head into Advanced options.
Then Startup Settings.
Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your Computer one last time.
Finally, you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.
That’s all there is to it. Your PC will then reboot and you will be able to install unsigned drivers without any error message
Now open ”C:\Flashtool\firmwares”, copy paste the downloaded ftf file specific to your xperia device & latest firmware.
Run FlashTool
Step 2 : Switch off your xperia, wait for 30 seconds, Insert USB Cable in PC first & hold “Volume Down or volume up” button while you insert cable in Xperia phone. Green light in notification LED confirms that phone has been connected successfully.
Step 3 : Notice the “Black Thunder” option in the top most left corner. Click & Choose option “flashmode”.
Click “Select source folder” and select the copied ftf file from “C:\Flashtool\firmwares” and check the option “Wipe Data”. Under option “Misc” , check mark the option “No Final verification” if you are on Android 4.0.4 ICS Stock version.
Click OK, now Flashtool will prepare files for flashing & flash the selected ftf file on your xperia device.
Start the phone once the flashing is done. The first reboot will be very slow. after that.
That's it you are done.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash stock ftf file with flashtool.
This will work fine on any branded set but will replace firmware with generic so no network specific apps (bloatware).

Hi everyone!
Please be kind if this is a stupid question
Got my Z2 from vodafone today as they have carrier exclusivity. I know that debranding the phone will do nothing with regards to the SIM lock status of the phone, however I want to get every step out of the way as soon as possible.
Is it okay to flash the firmware BEFORE having received an unlock code and will an unlock code for the network just remain the same or should I wait until the phone is unlocked and then apply the debranding?
Any advice appreciated!
(Also: Has anyone who has flashed noticed speed increases or anything that doesn't work smoothly? It seems only VODAFONE UPDATE is impossible to get rid of and I wonder if it's worth the drama ).
THANKS GUYS!

The forum software often has a restriction not to allow only caps in the title, you need to have at least one lower-case character.
I have the wifi version also but my device unlocked and rooted, if i flash it from recovery will it wipe everything ??
thanx
You can't flash a FTF from recovery.
Only with Flashtool.
You can set in Flashtool which wipes you want or not.
Root and recovery will be gone, and to regain them we have to wait for Doomlord releasing a new custom kernel suited for .402 firmware.

If we just throw in some technical terms which won't mean much to others, we should not wonder if the same "others" brick their devices - and then need to ask for far more help.
Providing a single link costs us 10 seconds and makes asker and follow-up readers quite happy and safe.
Keeping "secrets" for ourselves might lead others into great trouble, causing real problems and far more effort to the "experts" - now dealing with an issue with no simple 10-seconds-solution anymore.
"Spoonfeeding" a human baby is a vital step for it learning how to eat without any further help. It's a principle working very well for millenniums, a first step to being able to help yourself. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I just don't know. - I didn't root my Z2s till now because I a) don't want to lose the X-Reality video enhancement, and b) still got no Z2 without any manufacturing defects/touchscreen issues (even after upgrading to .402). :/

Hi chef, i saw this flashtool too but it says i have to be unlocked. I also saw a flashtool from here and it doesn't say i have to be unlocked. I wanted to stay locked but flashing a newer firmware(different software customization). Is that possible

Why not try it and report back. If it succeed without unlocking, then great, if not, you don't loose anything. I used the one you linked too successfully on Mac, but mine is unlocked.
If you flash a FTF with the xda flashtool, you don't need to be unlocked. This is the flashtool which is always meant in discussions here, not the Sony one with the same name.

Z5 Premium E6853 (Bell Mobility Canada)

So I am wondering if I am the only Canadian user that managed to buy a device with a locked bootloader? I contacted Sony Dev world and they stated there is no OFFICIAL way of unlocking this once it has been set to "BOOTLOADER UNLOCKABLE" = "NO". This is a dam piss off as I was a eager to build AOSP for this device and acquired it for this purpose.
So much for that plan!

I have not heard from the general public yet on this and so far I have yet to find a way to unlock this boot loader. How is it I'm the only Bell user that found a locked boot loader? I've currently rolled back to 5.1.1 and am still unable to find a solution.
Odd if I'm the only Bell user in this situation.
I got one and it says same thing. Guess I have to sell the device. Very dissapointed.
Have you tried flashing "Customized XX" file via Flashtool instead and then try unlocking it? Usually carrier locked firmware prevents the device from being unlocked.
Yes I've gone all the way back to firmware it comes with pre release, as it would be for promotion to retailers. I've tried everything listed in xda nothing has changed the boot unlock to yes. Mine is now on the" for sale" list as I bought it specifically because Sony is supposedly selling open and unlocked devices for developer friendly experience. This is not the case with a Bell Mobility device.

Changing firmware will never change your bootloader status...if it's locked to start with it's going to stay locked...
Carriers do special deals with oem's to have exclusivity or to sell their products and ask them to lock down the bootloader...
Don't buy from carriers to remedy to that problem...
Sony on the other hand sells its devices unlocked...!
I have the same infuriating problem - further to that, since a security update pm hide no longer works via adb. I was all ready for 7.1 as well and everything has just been a huge letdown.
Sorry fellas, you got the same un-rootable pile of Bell exclusive BS that I've been stuck with since last year.
Zero way to get root on these devices. Period.
Only suggestion is to toss an international ROM on it via Flashtool/Xperifirm and go from there - you'll at least get faster software patches/updates.

Used the one on the forums here..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/firmware-32-3-0-372-certified-android-7-t3537948
I used Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde v 0.9.23.2 (MUST be at least 0.9.23.x or you'll get an error)

Scratch that ... The firmware on that post is Russian even after selecting English on first boot. (there's still some stuff that shows in Russian)
https://depositfiles.com/files/yd5q2j22m <-- AU firmware posted on xperiafirmware.com
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862696598 <-- Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde v0.9.23.1 ... takes a long time to download
Install the flashtool
http://www.flashtool.net/torrents/patches/windows/x10flasher.jar <-- Copy file to flashtool install folder (c:\flashtool) to upgrade to v0.9.23.2 (this step is not needed, but recommended)
Backup your phone and turn it off and don't plug it in to your computer yet
Now move the downloaded firmware to your c:\users\{username}\.flashtool\firmwares folder
Run the flashtool (exe in c:\flashtool)
Click on the Lightning bolt
Keep Flashmode selected and click OK
Click on the arrows in the left pane to expand the list until you get to 32.3.A.0.372 and click on that
In the Wipe section, check everything (best to do a clean install)
Click the Flash button
No just wait until a popup comes up telling you to plug the phone in and press the down volume button at the same time.
WAIT .... now it's flashing and takes a while.
Once done, the first boot take a while longer then normal.
You'd think that if you can flash a stock rom this way that you'd be able to flash a rom with a stock rooted kernel and use the flashtool to install root with out needing to unlock the bootloader .... But I'm sure people have already thought of this and for some reason or another, it didn't work.
Like the others on here... I'm not happy with not being able to root... Never buying a phone from the provider again :|
