[mod] MLT service disabling - G3 General

A few weeks ago i was checking my running processes and i noticed a service called mlt was running, after a little googling i found that this appears to be a sort of lg spyware that looks for keywords been searched (suicide, types of porn etc) i found you can disable this in the hidden menu - mlt test - disable after reboot. I found that with this disabled i had more free ram and less lags, so just thought id share this info as not seen it mentioned on here, feel free to say thanks if this helps anyone ?

Thanks, checking this out and will tell if i find improvements.

Nice one...

Vzw G3 here, unable to get into a hidden menu that has this setting. Tried both the LG and program985 menus with no luck. No apps with 'mlt' listed in TiBu. Maybe vzw excluded this apk from their ROM?

Well like you said, a quick google indicates this apk is useless at bes, and possibly nefarious. Any method to turn it off if it exists is a win. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah thats what i thought too, makes me wonder what other services lg add and how much memory they take up!

Doesn't look like this is in the D850 menu. Good info though

Thank you. Actually some more info : http://mobilecon.info/disable-mlt-application-on-lg-smartphone.html
Seems that it can be disabled also via Titanium Backup - LG MLT.

150 MB of ram!! Didn't realise it was that much!

It really works. A couple months ago I did the same in LG G2. Thanks for remind !

MLT - MirrorLink Test
Now what exactly MirrorLink is and if we need the MLT in order for it to work, that I have not researched, but just in case someone uses MirrorLink and then tries this and wonders why it is no longer working...
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

Mirrorlink seems to be a system for connecting to certain types of in ICE setups.

Not sure if that's what this particular apk is for tho. Anyone tried decompiling it or checking for internal strings?

Read post 38 maybe that's why this got picked up as dodgy, but even if it is harmless, I don't need it running!

Well What do you know... It does seem to make a noticeable difference (with the usual caveat that it may also be placebo as I restarted the phone). I've also frozen the mlt app in titanium backup to ensure it doesn't come back

Maybe a bit off topic... But does anybody know where to find fast dormancy settings in hidden menu on MM?

Debloating VZW (rooted stock)

Now that root is achieved, many will freeze or remove stock VZW apps. Are there any resources on which apps are safe to freeze? This may have been asked elsewhere, but this is likely to be a recurring question and a thread in Q&A could be useful. Any information would be appreciated.

That is interesting information, but I don't believe that article specifies what is safe to remove (just what the consider removing). Also, the ATT framework may not behave exactly as the VZW might, which is my specific question.
Edit: consider using titanium backup and freeze as an alternative to uninstalling entirely. Should give you the option to restore if needed.

Just use boot browesr or something similar and go to /system/app and rename the bloat. Change myverizon.apk to myverizon.bak for example. That way it it cause issues you can just change it back.

Cannot uninstall Instagram Note 4

Hi All,
Im a noob. But my dilemma is since I opted to install the ota update that popped up when I got my Note 4. I am now unable to uninstall Instagram. All i can do is disable it. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Yes.
Instagramm is pre-installed (system app) and can't removed without root.
Just disabling works
Gesendet von meinem SM-N910F mit Tapatalk
Disabling it is really almost just as good as uninstalling it. My problem is with Evernote, I can't even disable that one. I really hate that program, and if anything will make me root it would be to get rid of evercrap.
Thank you guys for the help. The Note 4 is taking me some time to adjust to. I'm coming from the Note 3, I thought the transition would be a lot smoother. I like to use themes for my facebook, twitter and instagram- making it a bit more feminine but I don't know if it's possible since instagram is now a stock application. Sheesh!!
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
The app being installed on system shouldn't affect themes or anything? The app can still be modified and updated, just not uninstalled.
How disabling the app helps?
If you disable notifications and syncing in the app, why disable the app?

MM update. Default apps issue.

Hi guys
Just installed the MM update for my Note 4. Didn't notice any difference at first, then discovered that Allcast no longer streams to my Xbox DLNA, and also now in the gallery whenever you click on a video it gives you the choice of apps to open it with ONCE then automatically sets that as the default, so if I want to open a video in a different player I now have to go into app manager and clear the defaults. Then I can open with the app I want. But that gets set as default too so it never ends.
This is really REALLY annoying.
Please does anyone know of a fix around this?
Many thanks.
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Indeed a very annoying update all around!

+1 for this, been using it for years: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Basically you set it as the default app for opening a particular file type or link, and then within this app you can choose which other apps are allowed to open said files or links. You can also have a countdown to open with a default choice, giving you a few seconds to choose an alternative.
Been meaning to ask this since I upgraded to MM, always thought that this was a stupid MM feature, but now I see this is a bug right?
Thanks to that app anyway, don't like unnecessary apps, but still better than annoyance caused by waste of time.
It's not a bug, it's a further stupidity from Samsung. You can find this so called feature nobody wants on other devices as well (Note 5 and S7).
Thanks guys. Will try that app out.
This is without doubt the worst software update yet, so much to complain about!

It was either AudioConnectionService or SapaMonitor.
You can tell if you go:
Settings>Sounds>Sound Quality and Effects>Adapt Sound.
If adapt sound opens up then you are good. If adapt sound doesn't open after you tap on it, then you would need to re-enable one of the above. Sorry I don't remember exactly which one it was. But, its one of those. I actually have them both enabled with no change in performace or battery life btw.

battery Life on H872

For a while i was getting bad battery life due to using a LG app called LG Aura. Now that it's gone I've been seeing great battery life on my TMO G6 (H872).
I'm using it as general use. Not gaming.
Was playing with google cardboard.
Streaming YouTube & Netflix.
I'm impressed overall.
I usually get about 3 hours screen on time, 4 if I'm lucky. I use the doze app too and doesn't do much. Little bit of chrome, Snapchat, some light games.

I'd be happy to.
What seems to be the issue? I'm assuming you have both apps installed?
Then you'll want to force close both. Then, you want to go to Settings - Fingerprints & Security - Phone Administrators and then check make sure LG Service is active.
Then force close everything (recents clear all) and run Package disabler.. It should work now. Simply check the box to the right of the app you'd like to disable. If you press the app name it will also show you more info about the app and give you the ability to uninstall it there.
I understand the Package Disabler app has been removed from the Play Store but you seem to have it.
I'll also upload a copy of both in the next post in case someone else would like to try them as well..
