Cannot uninstall Instagram Note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Im a noob. But my dilemma is since I opted to install the ota update that popped up when I got my Note 4. I am now unable to uninstall Instagram. All i can do is disable it. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

Yes.
Instagramm is pre-installed (system app) and can't removed without root.
Just disabling works
Gesendet von meinem SM-N910F mit Tapatalk

Disabling it is really almost just as good as uninstalling it. My problem is with Evernote, I can't even disable that one. I really hate that program, and if anything will make me root it would be to get rid of evercrap.

Thank you guys for the help. The Note 4 is taking me some time to adjust to. I'm coming from the Note 3, I thought the transition would be a lot smoother. I like to use themes for my facebook, twitter and instagram- making it a bit more feminine but I don't know if it's possible since instagram is now a stock application. Sheesh!!

The app being installed on system shouldn't affect themes or anything? The app can still be modified and updated, just not uninstalled.

How disabling the app helps?
If you disable notifications and syncing in the app, why disable the app?

I have every possible app disabled at this point, however you can't download and install a new or custom version of IG I've tried at least 5 diff times ... :\ I'm going to end up rooting to unog my bloatware I suppose. If you figure it out let me know.

Rooted but not rooted...!

Hi everyone,
I was trying to get my i9500 rooted.
Successfully done.
SU is there, Titanium Backup works etc.
But, the Adaway did not do his job. I still receive the Ad messages on my notification bar!
The Adaway is working great on my Note 10.1, S2 and S3 but in S4 is looking like no working.
Also, the Root Uninstaller have a strange behavior: is uninstalling the app but the message come as the app was not successfully uninstalled!
I am the only one having this issues? I did not rooted properly the S4?
I have trying different types of rooting. The same issue.
Any advice?
Thank you all

I agree with this. It will be a pain in the butt to test this, but try freezing or uninstalling everything. (Make a titanium backup of all your apps first, then uninstall them all)
Then resintall them in groups of like 5 or 10 at a time. Wait however long it usually is between these Chinese messages to restore the next group. I'll bet you see the messages stop when you uninstall everything, then see them return only after restoring the block of apps that contain the one that's letting messages through.
For this experiment, freezing should work just as well as uninstalling. Might be easier that way.
Or do it the other way and freeze blocks of 10 at a time to see what makes the messages stop.
Once you identify the block of 10 that contains the 1 bad one, repeat the experiment 1 app at a time within thsoe 10.
You can also take educated guesses on which of your apps are the most likely to be the bad apple. Titanium and ROM Manager and other popular apps that everyone else is using with no problem probably aren't your bad app. I'd start with the more obscure ones you have. Also check the feedback on teh Play store of your more obscure apps. See if other people are making the same complaints you have about one of your apps. (That only works though if the app has some level of popularity. If it's got 12 downloads you're unlikely to have anyone leaving feedback on it)
I do agree with all of you.
The messages are coming form a app or game! Thrue!
But how do you explain that, all other my devices, Note 10.1, Galaxy Pad 10.1, S2 and S3 have the same App and games instaled does not have any problem and only S4 have?
Non of the others, after installing AdAway, have no f...ing Chinese messages, and the S4 have?
Same App same games.....
My S4, I9500, is on stock 4.3 room with Perseus kernel.

Adaway has nothing to do with ad notifications, only with ad banners. Once I saw an app that can detect and block that notifications but I don't remember its name. Maybe you can search in gplay...

Ok, but this did not explain why all other devices with same app, games I dont have, after installing adaway are stopping the Chinese messages and the S4 not!
May the adaway block the notifications also, because is blocking the access to add sites...

Maybe that messages are programmed to be shown only in a S4 device (for example advising any weather app) and but in other models... there are a lot of possible explanations to that...

Yesterday I uninstall the AdAway from all other devices.
Immediately, the messages in notification bar started to come.
I reinstall it again and the messages stoped.
Meaning that the messages there are not only for S4!

(Q) Uninstalling system apps? 4.4.2

I was wondering if there is a way other than either disabling or freezing system apps. If I remove them, it causes settings to fc. This has held true since the 4.4 update. I usually always get ride of apps to free up more space, RAM, ect...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
As I know you can only disable system apps(as I do) but they are still there and without root you can not completely delete or modify system apps, which is basicly leaves you with a custom rom.
If it's force closing when you disable them then the best thing you can do is just install a custom Rom and kernel. If you like stock then I suggest Nexus 5 Experience with Franco kernel.
I use an app called systemapp remover. In 4.3, maybe theres an update.

You can use any file explorer(Solid File Explorer) to uninstall system apps. Titanium Backup to freeze them.
Hey guys sorry for not responding sooner. The problem is that I am rooted and running a custom ROM. There are still certain thing I get ride of (NFC, or calendar storage for example) that I just never use. I've tried on stock, PSX, and Purity with the same results. Remember I'm uninstalling them not freezing or disabling.

Try uninstaling foreign keyboards , wallpapers e.t.c. Also I have 100mb+ of system space free so I guess your phone is similar so why do you need more. I can understand deleting system apps to get more free ram and space on cheap budget phone's with little of both. The likelihood of you needing to free up either on this phone is slim at best my guess never. Just my thoughts as I am interested in why your doing this.

Honestly, I just always have. I have about the same free space as you. I just like having the option of taking the things off of my phone that I don't want on there. What if I did want bone stock, I would be stuck with all that bloat wear. I just always considered it as one of the reasons for rooting your phone.

I know where you're coming from as its something I have always done until getting this phone. Don't no what the problem is as all apps I uninstall have been o.k. I always freeze first to make sure there's no surprises then uninstall. You could try greenify from play and put them to sleep if having problems. That said I have no answer to you're specific problem.
Just keep them if its causing problems and enjoy you're phone knowing it can handle the extra unwanted apps.
You could always flash a vanilla android rom ( there's a few about ) with banks minimum gapps and that should do the trick. Just install the apps you need
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah, I'm running Purity with the very minimal banks gapps and the system apps I don't use disabled. It doesn't really bother me. I had asked the same question when 4.4 was first released and I guess figured there was a work around by now. No biggy. Thanks for your incite:thumbup:

There should be a list somewhere of all this pre-loaded bull**** so you can remove it without missing any.
Without root you can't install WA+.
Disabling WA ist maybe possible, but anyhow, you can't install WA+!
It's so unbelievable from Samsung.
I've written Samsung and complained about this. Also on Facebook. Public is always more effective. Maybe if more complaints come, possibly something happens
Facebook App ist also a System App and can't removed, or no old version can't be used.

Not sure what would actually be effective. People have complained about pre-installed apps on Android for, what, five years now? It's never done any good, and the hundreds of millions of additional Android users since back then clearly haven't made the complaints any more effective, either. The option of rooting is there, for people who want to completely have them removed from storage. Otherwise, disabling the apps gets rid of the icons and takes care of any performance hit. The actual size they take up is less than one half of 1% of device storage, so they're really not a big deal. It's just the psychological effect of knowing they're there. I've just learned to ignore it.
After coming from the Nexus 5 with its lack of expandable storage, I learned pretty quick that a couple megs for a stock app make a poor target for blame when I'm angry because I've got nowhere to put a 500+mb game I bought.
-Edit: On the other hand, when a preinstalled app makes it impossible to install another version of the same app from the store, it might go further to train yourself to treat that sort of thing like a bug. Report it to their technical support and act incredulous that they'd let such broken behavior into a production release. ;P

MM update. Default apps issue.

Hi guys
Just installed the MM update for my Note 4. Didn't notice any difference at first, then discovered that Allcast no longer streams to my Xbox DLNA, and also now in the gallery whenever you click on a video it gives you the choice of apps to open it with ONCE then automatically sets that as the default, so if I want to open a video in a different player I now have to go into app manager and clear the defaults. Then I can open with the app I want. But that gets set as default too so it never ends.
This is really REALLY annoying.
Please does anyone know of a fix around this?
Many thanks.

Indeed a very annoying update all around!
No fix, but an app called 'Better open with'.

+1 for this, been using it for years: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Basically you set it as the default app for opening a particular file type or link, and then within this app you can choose which other apps are allowed to open said files or links. You can also have a countdown to open with a default choice, giving you a few seconds to choose an alternative.
Been meaning to ask this since I upgraded to MM, always thought that this was a stupid MM feature, but now I see this is a bug right?
Thanks to that app anyway, don't like unnecessary apps, but still better than annoyance caused by waste of time.
It's not a bug, it's a further stupidity from Samsung. You can find this so called feature nobody wants on other devices as well (Note 5 and S7).
Thanks guys. Will try that app out.
This is without doubt the worst software update yet, so much to complain about!

For what it's worth: After I disabled these I booted to Recovery and wiped the cache partition.

It was either AudioConnectionService or SapaMonitor.
You can tell if you go:
Settings>Sounds>Sound Quality and Effects>Adapt Sound.
If adapt sound opens up then you are good. If adapt sound doesn't open after you tap on it, then you would need to re-enable one of the above. Sorry I don't remember exactly which one it was. But, its one of those. I actually have them both enabled with no change in performace or battery life btw.
