Note Edge (and Note 4) Hands on Impressions - Note Edge General

I played with both the Note 4 and Edge today.
The screens on both are stunning. Everything looks a step sharper than the Note 3. The colors still pop, but everything looks more natural. Whites are noticeably whiter. Both screens are brighter too.
The metal rim is a nice touch and from a quality standpoint both devices were nicer than the Note 3. Still, they're not on the level of the iPhone/HTC devices and are probably closer in quality to the G3/Moto X (2014).
I was super excited for the Edge, but after using one I'm not sure what I think. The bent edge is really small and kind of awkward to use on its own. For most applications that section doesn't do anything. When I was using Chrome for instance it just goes black and says My Note Edge. I installed Nova to see what it did with a launcher and the result was the same. You can swipe the strip and something will come up, but there didn't seem to be a full-screen mode where normal content was stretched to that area automatically. Also when using some apps the content from the strip area seemed to overlap slightly over the main screen area.
I couldn't get any great pics (and some are blurry) but here they are:

Did you face any difficulty holding in one hand? Did holding interfere with edge display sending unwanted touches or inputs?

No, I didn't have any difficult holding it. I know it's wider than my Note 3, but it felt very similar in hand. I also didn't have problem with unwanted touches, but I was using it two handed for the most part.
I didn't get a chance to put it up to my ear. I'm not sure the cord would have been long enough, but I'll try the next time I'm at that Best Buy to see how it will be for actual phone calls.

I tried one out as well and its hard to answer this because the anti theft device is so intrusiv .

Thank you SeanPlunk for the images you provided and also your findings/opinion of the Note Edge. It's much appreciated.

One thing I forgot to ask is how did you guys like the convenience of quickly jumping to an app that was recently used? I figured this would be one of the prime benefits of using the Note Edge(besides the notifications that can be received solely on the curved screen).

Jumping to apps was useful, but not necessarily that much quicker than the traditional app switcher, just different.

Oh okay. I thought that not having to deal with that extra step of viewing the apps to choose to launch one from would be an added convenience. I know I would like it similar to doing it on Windows 7 (and earlier version of) OS runnning on a computer.

I been meaning to hit up best buy and check out the phone.
I know i want th phone because i like the edge look and i know devs will be putting it to use.
It sucks that the phone didnt go full screen when you open up the browser.
Thats one think i was hoping you would be able to turn control.
I hope that with updates or settings your be able to change this.

I just want to make sure I understood what you meant when you said the result was the same when using Nova launcher.
Do you lose any of the Edge's side screen functionality when using Nova (or any other) launcher? Or rather, do you lose any of the Edge's unique functionality when using a different launcher than Samsung's Touchwiz?

By default when I was using Nova and on the homescreen the side bar displayed My Note Edge. The homescreen did not stretch into that area. You could still activate the side bar by swiping it of course, but I wish there was a mode where when using the homescreen it would just stretch over to the bar area.

I think I may go back to the store and play with it again this weekend without my 4 year old running around.
If anyone has anything specific they'd like me to test let me know.

Yea I know what you mean. Hopefully there is and option or 3rd party app around release

I was a bit confused and worried about the lack of support by native Samsung apps. Ex. Camera uses it but Gallery does not. Messaging seems perfect for it since sidebar could be quick convo switcher but no. Much as I would want it I cant imagine major apps like FB , IG , YT hangouts etc using it.
fwiw the screen on the Note 4 seemed a bit brighter on an all white picture.

If the gear fit can display fb whatsapp etc notifications with not much problem I think it will be no issue with the edge (hope I'm right)

Si I went out to the bb. And tested it out.
It looks so damn nice. It's also lighter then the note 3. It had the cores and stuff on it but it still felt lighter.
The lcd screen is shorter then the note 3.
Basically the edge higher is from the bottom of the note 3 screen to the bottom part of the status screen.
Also on the model I was using the edge part shrunk itself in half when using the browser and market. And other apps. It basically turn the lcd full screen and that small part would just be the shoulder part.
there is still no word on price but it seems to be from $800 to $1000. But I am still thinking $850
And it's a confirm date of $ Nov 3 to 5.

Could you lucky people who have had the chance to play with Note Edge tell me if the device has sharp edges around the screen? It looks that way in pictures.
Also, if the phone was fingerprint locked, would the edge screen still open the apps bypassing the unlock option?
Thanks

I mean in regards to off setting UI and Button features the way the camera and video apps do. So many uses I dont see happening. Like full screen pic in FB but all those icons and tabs are off to the right.

It's real, not myth.. :good:
Before bought this beast, I already now about AMOLED burn in, and already browse tons info about this.
So I'm totally 100% mentally prepared that my >$500 device will suffer burn in too.
(but not that fast.. wow.. )
7-10 days, I see that mark (ONLY on *#0*# blue test, and only slightly).
After almost 3 weeks on moderate usage.. just see my pic above..
Conclusion:
- I'm still happy with this beast..
- It's big but pocketable.
- Screen is very2 nice... and very comfortable for browsing, e-book.. :good:
- As I'm totally prepared for this burn in.. I'm stil okay now.
Just sharing... how about yours?
PS (IMPORTANT!):
DON'T SEEK FOR THIS BURN MARK IF YOU DON'T MENTALLY PREPARED!
OR YOU'LL PISSED OFF, ANNOYED, ANGRY TO SAMSUNG, ETC...
IF YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR NOTE, JUST LET IT BE..
BUT, IF YOU CAN LIVE WITH BURN IN SCREEN ON YOUR EXPENSIVE DEVICE.. please, try to test it & report here.. :good:

I bought mine in November and have been using automatic brightness the whole time. No screen burn so far fortunately. If you want my advice, you should use a launcher like ADW EX Launcher that allows portrait to landscape transitions. Although even with stock touchwiz, if you rotate your phone during browsing or viewing a video, you should be fine.
This may sound ridiculous, but I have read somewhere that running an AMOLED screen with a full white screen at 100% brightness for a few hours actually fixes the burn in. Devs?

:fingers-crossed: actually, there's some method (it's on play store) to reduce/eliminate this.
(note: i've never tried this app, only read in seconds, so i'm sorry if this info is misleading )
that app will actually display full-black background & blue bar on status bar location. and you should run this periodicaly, and hopefully it won't show burn mark on status bar again.
So.. actually, that app will degrade the blue sub-pixel on status bar location so it will even with the rest of blue sub-pixel.
well, I think (if my interpretation of dev's info is right).. it's just like u said, my friend: "Maybe...the result should be a consistent burn-in over the whole screen^^"
I don't see it on my 6 month old Note which has had a daily 3-4 hour display on time.
I wonder if it's because I sometimes use it horizontally when playing videos? It would be interesting to know if it's reverseable by evening up the burn in?
Or maybe there is a break-in period at the start where it's more susceptible to burning?
No burn in on my 9 month old either, and it sees 5 to 6 hours screen on time daily.
Using Nova Launcher, in both portrait and landscape, and watch quite a few movies.
Regards,
Dave
No burn-in on my 6 months old Note, and same thing on my 2 years old Galaxy S1 as well. I have a colleague at work with a Galaxy S1 which does have bad burn-ins all over though...
I'm thinking it must be linked to the brightness level you use? I'm on the lowest setting pretty much all the time. I'm assuming your theme / status bar color would also play a role there?

50% brightness.. as lower than that, is not good enough .. -I came from LG Optimus 2X & Huawei Mediapad.. both IPS LCD-
Very moderate usage. Standard ROM & Theme.
In my case, I think, it came from web browsing. As most web is white / bright background.
(start today, I browse using Opera without status bar & navigation bar.. as navigation bar location beginning to burn too.. wow.. )
I have been using Go Launcher to hide the status bar, for a couple of months now, also i reposition the widget on the home screen now and then.
I read a thread the other day, about people asking how to keep the display on while using an navigation program, I warned them about burn-in but they did not want to know.
John.
I have had this since I got the phone. Remember that sticker on the screen that most Note phones had? The one with Amoled logo, wifi, gps and other words? I can see the words/logos burned in when the background is grey'ish.... annoying but didn't find it worth sending it for a screen replacement, might end up with worse...

@michom: It's not a burn in. I agree with Tinderbox, maybe it's the glass coating.
since November (that is more than 8 months) with heavy use (to the point that I need to recharge twice my battery daily) with max brightness always (only at night brightness is reduced)... not a single burn yet
Best advice I can give you is to use full screen browsing with stock ICS browser or opera mobile. Also make sure you are hiding the Android notification/status bar at the top of you screen use a launcher that auto hides it.
And finally don't use apps that don't have options in their app settings to hide the notification/status bar. Prolonged use with that bar visible will destroy your screen
ICS stock browser has a labs setting to let you go fulll screen

Do an LCD rgb test. I guarantee you have burn out when you go to an all blue screen.
Wait, so you have to set up a particular background, under special conditions to see it ?
Which means that even if it happens, you never actually notice it in daily use ? In which case why would you ever care ? I know I don't.

Wrong. Blue degrades fastest but you will see its ghosting effects on any grey or white background. An all blue Screen let's you see how particularly bad the damage is. If you scroll your home screen left to right on a grey or white background you'll see all the ghosting from the burn out.
That's why you should never dock and leave the screen on an amoled device.

[Q] Note 3 Uneven Screen Color

I know there are a few different threads about various screen concerns, but this one is specific to color distribution. Sorry if this belongs elsewhere.
I attached a picture of the Note 3 screen without any screen protector while on the dark gray color from the LCD Pixel Testing app. Apologies that the uploaded picture isn't rotated properly. The bottom-right has a purplish/pink tint to it and the top-left has a greenish tint. It's not the camera angle/picture because I took another picture of it from the same angle, but upside down and the coloring moved accordingly.
I also took a picture of the Note 2 under the same conditions to make sure that this isn't normal for other screens, and the Note 2's screen was much more consistent. I've experienced uneven color distribution on the Samsung UN46B8000 TV, but not on a mobile device.
Does anyone else have this type of uneven screen color on the Note 3?
Thank you!
Im not sure why is this happening. Im now on my third replacement and every one has this hue or tint in different parts of the screen. Im not sure if its fixable but I gave up on samsung. I just hope it goes away after some time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check out display models and see how the uniformity is. If they are worse than mine, I'll keep mine. Still, I think that Samsung should really work on this. I've compared it to the Note 2 and S3. All have better uniformity than the Note 3, which saddens me as I was really looking forward to this device.

I spoke to one of the tech guys at my work and he said it could be a power issue. The power source could be coming from the upper-left corner and it gets weaker as it goes across the screen, which could explain the gradient-like change in the display. If the pink is at the bottom-right for all our displays, it could be the explanation.
We looked online for a proper teardown, but we couldn't find one that showed where the screen power originates from. I don't know about this because I'm not sure if full/more power would result in a greenish-blue hue. The only evidence I can think of that supports this is that the Note 2 and S3 were overly greenish-blue in tint over the entire screen.
Does everyone affected have greenish-blue on the top-left that fades into pink on the bottom-right?
just tested mine with the app i got no tint or diffrent hue .. I've tested it on AUTO, Manual low, high brightness settings..
I have these problems since I own AMOLED devices, and that is now for quite some time (see sig.)! Me too had to exchange each device a few times until I got some with a almost perfect screen! On both N9005 I own so far the lower screen side is darker, although there are other significant differences between the two screens: the one of the second device is much more uniform! plus no1 has sharp pitch up in gamma on the leftmost 5mm over the whole side (maybe this screen has been cut out from the edge of the mother-substrate: the more from the center the better, due to principles of metal mask lithography)
I've done a few posts in regard to this in the past, if interested use the search function!

Another problem I have: When CUP is on medium to heavy load, screen brightness and contrast start to go up and down slightly each few seconds on all brightness levels, even on manual and lowest brightness! this happens on both devices, although here the first one is a little more stable! for me this happens always when in gallery for example, due to CPU load because of media scanning... Seems to be some load or thermal brightness throttling mechanism implemented (guess: in some part of the kernel)...

mine doesn't have a hue but on really dark colors (like the dark tapatalk theme) the screen color is uneven on the background.

I'm happy for you. For me, I gave up and bought LG g2 and I'm so glad I did. I just love this ips screen.
I'm wondering if it's there is edge LED lighting and the screen is just uneven.
My first one was like yours which seems very bad. Took it back got a new one, this one has the issue too, but its not that visible. It's probably not as bad as I make it sound. You can only see it if there isn't any light in the room basically. I took a screen shot of the battery status menu and cropped it to the all "black" part and put a black dot on it. In a totally dark room (doesn't mater what the screen brightness is) see if you can find the dot. It's pretty small you have to zoom in a lot. But using this image I can see the uneven lighting on the screen. If there us ant kind of color displayed though it's totally invisible.
I'm kind of worried about getting one that's worse too. that's what's got me not wanting to deal with it. A lot of them down here have been getting returned to best buy and Verizon because of a signal issue or battery drainage problems.

Try this in a dark room. Using Display Tester app test card Grey #808080 and put the brightness in the screen tester to as low as possible as well as your phones brightness to low as feasibly possible. The check out the lower half near the home button. You will see it being slightly different and darker. Both mine and the wife's do it. Her's possibly a little bit more pronounced than mine. Normal, as I never notice it during day to day or night time viewing. Point being I have to go out of my way to find this so called issue.

can confirm this! and it was the same on note1, note2, ... on basically all amoled devices i owned from samsung so far!
the "problem" is the manufacturing process of the amoled screens:
they were cut out of a wafer. in the process of exposing the wafer with a light source through a FMM (fine metal mask) the exposure is not evenly distributed over the whole wafer. the more from the middle your screen has been cut out, the better it is! the gradients (down side darker, right side darker, ...) are due to the gradient light exposure of the wafer before cutting!
so it's all luck of the draw: atm i have one (!) decent screen out of 5 devices! the bad thing is: on this device the thermal throttling is comparable worse then on two of the other devices i have, but on these the display is very uneven!
so it seems to be a hard task to get a device where a) the screen is perfect and b) there are none of the other known problems (wobbly button, thermal throttling, noisy camera, ...) present!
thank you samsung!

goood :good:

I played with the Note at Best Buy as well. They had 3 on display, all were white.
There are very few differences from the Note 3 and S5, but that screen is just perfect. The settings menu is like the s5 except it has some quick settings up top and the background is white. The calendar and clock widgets have transparent options (the s5 has the ability to make the widget transparent). The folder icons look like the s5, but you can no longer change the color. Blue is the only option, which is pretty lame.
The phone software felt smooth as anything I've used, kills the G3. The wide selfie cam is pretty cool. Taking pictures side by side my girlfriends S5 showed only minor differences, obviously testing was limited.
The speaker was loud, no bass but definitely loud. The metal trim that's painted partially white is really sexy. The inside of the calculator app is reworked, functions the same but its a welcome visual change.
All in all, it's a damn good phone, makes me miss my Note 3, but if you use a Note 3 and aren't interested in this new display, there's really no reason to upgrade.

Did you get an opportunity to use the S - Pen, if so is the functionality better than the N3? I have the S5 and N3?

Very little because of the cord. I couldn't get the air command window to pop up. I did use it on the (notepad app?) a little. It does feel better than the Note 3, not a HUGE difference, but it just feels like it glides and it's more accurate. Again, I barely used it, but I do think people will be happy with it over the Note 3.
If you guys go check it out, you must watch the pre-loaded video of the people in the city. It's obviously shot with the proper equipment and does not reflect what our own videos will look like, but it just looks awesome.
I am not seeing the difference compared to the Note 3 that some are implying. Both displays look great and I have to get overly close to notice the difference from typical usage distance. Then I notice tiny fonts are more legible.
I also do not see the N4 any faster than the Note 3. Both are great fast devices IMO.
What I do notice is there is about 3GB less storage than the Note 3. That is accounting for the 4GB of demo bloat too on the N4. I sure hope that is a demo allocation issue, or the N4 would have at least 3gb less storage out of box. I think it is closer to 4gb MIA.
Note 4
Was shocked to see the Samsung people settled in BB and with everything layed out. I didn't even know any of this and was only browsing at BB and then the Note 4 popped up and that was all I was staring at for a good minute which seemed very long and then I dashed to it to pick it up onto my hand. Low and behold, the Note 4, Note Edge, at last, in person, in real life! Oh man oh man the security cord could do with a bit of extension at the least! Whatever... the Note 4 was nice in my hand, it felt so right. It looked so nice. I used to use a Note 2, until it got soaked while kayaking with only 1 layer of ziplock around it.... Forgot to do the second layer. So I'm back to my S3, phone was dead right when I saw the Note 4, so no pictures, sorry. But the Note 4 sounds amazing! The speakers are LOUD! Mind you, BB was packed on a Sunday evening and pretty loud with the noise environment. The person above said it had no bass, now that I think back, I don't believe I heard bass.... But who cares!?!? The speakers will for SURE make you hear that notification or phone call that you get from a few rooms away in your house! The Note 4 was a blast to play with! The camera selfie made me look so handsome!!! Right when I was about to snap a photo with my S3, the S3 camera looked so dark compared to the N4 camera. My phone wouldn't do the N4 any justice if I was to snap a few shots anyways! But man oh man oh man oh man! The N4 is awesome! If you don't the Note 3, check the N4 out because it might not be a huge upgrade to the N3 users. This baby is going out in the market for $825.99 w/o contract, 299.99 with 2 years contract for most carriers and damn... Do I want one for my Verizon account! For the folks out there with second thoughts on which phone to get that's over $500, this is the bad boy to go for. This is the one. Don't even think about waiting for the N5, it'll be approx 365 days before that happens. I'm still stoked! I had to leave BB to go to Costco before it closed.... BUMMED me out..... I'm still thinking about yesterday though.... Dying to go there again to play with it.
EDGE,
Samsung always want to have an EDGE over others.
the s pen capabilities turn the rest phones to FOLLOWERS.

Hi
What a pretty phone.
Posting some Note 4 photos I took at BB
Hey, everybody. I'm going to all the Note 4 general forums to post a few pics I took of the Note 4, just in case there's a person or two who hasn't been able to see them in the flesh at Best Buy, or they want to see real life photos.
Honestly I was not that impressed at Best Buy today. The overall design is beautiful. And the 2d screen thing was noticable to me. Also whites looked brighter and whiter and less washed out when compared to my Note 3. Other than that same ol Note and definitely not a significant upgrade over the 3. That being said I cannot resist the $200 trade in offer and I will be upgrading. Lol

I thought the same until paying close attention to the display with web and image content. The N3 has a grest display, but the N4 has a STUNNING display.
Still, I agree the Note 4 is not a giant leap from the N3.

Best Buy has em on display

I was there today and they had a demo with no straps or anything on it, it was an edge.
It is a lot smaller than it feels and it is light. It really is a pleasure to hold.
The focus is everything they claim it to be. No hunting, near instant focus. It will focus faster than you can, its crazy.
The edge goes down the sides a little more than the S6 edge, but since the back is sloped and they worked it the edge is not as sharp.
^what he said. Light to hold, one hand easy operation. Also was not red hot like the s6s on display
I really wanted to test the fingerprint security but they had it disabled in the menu

Yes, I had a note 4, went to iPhone by mistake 6splus ....so maybe I'm used to the reach. It was was easier to handle over the 6s plus. Smaller in physical size as well
Taking the Edge features out of the equation, how do you think the general usage of the S7 vs the S7 Edge compares? I'm curious about how web pages, pics, videos, etc. look on the curved screen vs the flat S7. Do you really notice the curve in normal use?
Seeing as how the Edge is not much bigger physically and only 5g heavier than the S7, but with a considerably larger screen and battery, I'm considering the Edge even though I initially had no interest. I love the size of my S4, and the S7 is very similar in size, which is good, but it also weighs almost an ounce more, which I don't like.

I only looked at the 7 for a short time. The screen is not that much smaller and would probably work for most.
My 1st thought was that the curve of the edge would be like wasted screen space, but after seeing it, it is not.
Coming from note4 the it would be hard for me to go to a smaller screen. I used to use my laptop at home all the time. Since having a larger screen on the phone, the laptop only comes out when it needs to.
I still think that though it is beautiful and a technological marvel, the edge is a gimmick and a slight disadvantage over a flat screen for reading, pic movies etc

How so? I've nearly had the edge for a year now and never had any issues with reading or movie watching. In fact I feel as if the edge enhances the movie watching experience.
Thanks. After seeing a number of articles & videos about the Edge capabilities, they don't look like anything I'd ever use. I briefly had a Note 3 and a G4, which were both too large & unwieldy for me as a daily driver. The Edge isn't significantly bigger bigger or heavier than the S7, but sports a phablet sized screen, so I guess I'll have to check it out for screen usefulness & one-handed use. I really don't care at all what a phone looks like.

I felt the same way even though I pre ordered yesterday. I was skeptical, but was on for about 20 minutes @ Best Buy and know I made the right choice. For me anyway
I wonder if all Best Buy's have the demos out. I could call before heading out. My local Best Buy doesn't seem have very much demo wise.
I went to Best Buy. Impressive devices. My gut feeling is that the standard S7 will end up being my choice. I'll probably pick up the Edge at T-Mobile a few months after release (I want to see how the ROMs shake out) and try it out for a week or two before deciding if it's too big. The size was borderline for me, and the size of my old Note 3 just felt worse to me the longer I used it, so I'll need to have the option to return it. The Edge is very tall - Note-level height - and one-handed usage was not good. (I'm a 5'-8" male with average sized or slightly smaller hands.) Much better one-handed than the Note 3 and G4, but it was pushing the limits of my hands. To me, the curved screen was a bit disconcerting, but was better than I expected it to be as far as seeming distorted. I definitely like flat screens better, but I think I could live with the Edge in that regard. The standard S7 was of course much closer in size to my S4, although it was a fair bit taller, as well. Not enough to be problematic, although I consider the top & bottom bezel size of both devices to be too large, especially coming from the very compact S4. Not Apple-level gigantism, but a bit disappointing. The weight of the S7 was also noticeably greater than the S4, another negative. But all in all the physical characteristics were pretty good.
They looked great. My battered S4 looks perfectly fine to me, so obviously I don't really care, but credit where it's due. They had black and silver versions in the store. The silver looked pretty cool, but was horrendous for fingerprints, whereas the black was much better in that regard. They were also less slippery in the hand than I thought they might be, which was great.
Camera was way beyond any phone I've ever tried. Actually, I've never used a digital camera that was as quick and clear as the S7. The screen quality and brightness are also the best I've ever seen.
all I wonder is, if the fingerprint scanner is improved, even slightly, in the 7.

I went to try it and the option is locked out of the display model. I would have deleted it but makes sense for them to disable it. Peeps be locking it and walk away
I hope it works good. It's the ONLY thing I like from the iPhone.
I found the fingerprint scanner the same way. I did enable Developer mode, but it wouldn't let me actually active it. Understandable.
Welp, looks like I will be headed to BB after work today.
yea iphone has that advantage over us. best fingerprint scanner in the market i'd say.
Just played with the edge at BB. I made a great choice. Its slim and feels good in your hand.

Galaxy s7 edge white light bleed from top and hottom

Just purchased s7 edge in white and to be fair I am very dissapointed with it. Light is bleeding pretty much all around the screen. It is in white finish and it just looks like the white does not cover anything at all. I understand that amoled should not bleed as ther is no edge backlight but the screen just looks horible when in bit of a dark conditions. White edges on top and bottom are basically lit up as well!
Please see this picture in pitch black on phone. Could it be faulty handset or just a white finish not covering things properly

Well it is quite clear on pictures. The white surround of the phone does light up based on the colour of the screen to the extent that majority of white bezel is lit up with white screen on. The rainbow efect on the first pictures could be seen over the bezel itself as well which is very unusual

It was an upgrade from EE UK so defo not a fake.
I am just trying to work out if this is hapenning on all white s7 edges or it is just my phone and I can look for replacement.

It happens on all s7 edges. But the white one shows it the most. It isn't really lightbleed all it is that the light from the screen is traveling through the glass.

It happens slightly. I personally have the gold one and if you have you brightness set to full and have something white display you will see the light come out at the edges where the glass meets the metal frame.

Thanks for reply.
I have arranged exchange for another white one tomorrow, so we will see.
For me personally this is dealbreaker. Cannot really believe this was not reported much before for such a favourite device. Having all this gorgeous amoled screen with zero level blacks and you phone lights up like christmas tree in dark is ridiculous. Watched video side by side on my LG flex 2 and this s7 edge in darkness and the edge one is really bad with all the leakage coming from bezel. Magic of amoled is just gone for me. Hope will have better news tomorrow. Worst case scenario will have to go for dark finish one to get results I want.

The black s7 edge is the best looking one in my opinion. It's the one I was going to go for but the gold one was the only one which was in stock. I'd go for the black one becuase the white one will have the same issue.

You were right. Doh.
Received replacement and it is exactly same as the first one. I dont really know what to do. Really like the phone but I just can't get over the issue. I use the phone in dark quite often and black performance is very important for me, unfortunately it is just not good enough with all the leakage.
I am tempted to try the black one to see if issue will go away or possibly wait for Note 7.
I cannot really understand how people can live with this issue. Done more googling and it seems to be quite a common problem even on s6 edge. If that was apple it would be all over the web as another Applegate but Samsung is somehow protected. Weird.

Try the black s7 edge. The only reason which would warrant the jump to the note 7 is 2 features, the spen and iris scanner. Personally I'd keep the s7 edge because of the bigger battery. I've had every single note up until the note 5 and the spen in my case was just a showing off feature, I rarely used it. Obviously it's still your choice but I'd try the black s7 edge before jumping to the note 7.
I have the white as well , and the light leak is not a big problem for me.You can see it as a feature, like the expensive Philips led TV's with Ambilight..

Yes. Phillips Ambilight was first thing that came to my mind as well. Unfortunatelly it is not something I want from the phone
Received black one today.
Much better than white. Still some leaking on sides where glass meets metal but bezels covering all the light so thats good. Got mixed feelings about the phone at the moment but will see how it goes. Expected Really good baterry life but it is poor so far. Hope it will improve with few more charges. Camera is excellent. Need to get used to the samsung UI as been with LG for 4 years.
