[Q] For SM-N9005 unlocked owners using US AT&T network - data stopped working - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had this weird problem where mobile data stopped working on my Note 3. The last time it worked was Saturday evening and when I got home, got on wi-fi. This morning, I left the house and I got just the bars without the usual H+ along with it. Phone status said that the network state was disconnected. However, calls worked fine. I tried to troubleshoot with the ATT rep, tried re-registering my number multiple times to no avail. Then, I went into network mode and switched it to "WCDMA/GSM auto" from the default "LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto", and data works again. Since I always had the phone on "LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto" and I know I didn't do any system updates lately, some recent change in the ATT network was probably not playing nice with that network mode. Has anyone with the int'l Note 3 on the ATT network had this problem?

Forcing G1 to Roam

I'm going camping this coming weekend to a place in the mountains that tmobile has very poor coverage in. I was there last month and discovered my friends at&t phone had full service while my g1 showed service, just didn't show any bars and other times only showed one bar. Calls with my phone were flacky and dropped out, his worked perfectly. Is there a way to make my phone switch to roaming on at&t?
I have a national plan on T-Mobile.
I'm running Cyanogen 3.9.5

Should do it automatically. I saw my phone do this the other weekend when I was travelin. My phone showed ATT, Corr Wireless, and some other service and certain points.
The tmobile signal is just strong enough to keep it from roaming there. I was hoping it would switch automatically but it never did. I know the phone does have roaming ability, i've seen it switch to roam and work fine.
I would assume then just change your APN settings.
you can try manual operator selection, by going Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Network Settings > Network Operators > Search Networks then select whatever network you want to use
Hi.. I'm using CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 on my HTC Dream and I've got the same issues with roaming. I've travelled to 3 countries last month and I had issues with connecting to GSM network.. There was error message that my sim card cannot work with specific networks.. I've tried to use auto connection and I've tried also to connect manually to specific networks, but with the same result. I've tried also rebooting and removing the battery... Problem disappeared after few hours... I had this issue in Austria, Hungary and Turkey so it's not operator/country specific. Problems doesn't exist on different cell phone (Nokia). Everything works fine after powering on the phone.

3G connection issues

I'm having random 3G connection issues on my Samsung Focus.
At radndom times 3G connection is lost and the only way to get it working is to turn off and on the phone.
I tried putting the phone into airplane mode, turn off/on data, turn 3G off/on, nothing works, only a reboot works.
Today I checked my email on my phone and it says;

We're having a problem connection to exchange.xxx.com. Try again later.
Last tried 2 seconds ago
Error code: 80072FA8
This error shows up on all 3 emails I have setup.
IE doesn't work, Zune, any app requiring 3G connection.
And this happens at random times, at least once a day.
The phone has the lastest updates and is jailbroken.
One other thing to mention is, the phone is now having the 3G connection issue but i have it theathering to my computer and the internet connection is working while theathered, cause i'm posting this email.
I have no idea what's happening or how to fix it.

Mine is unlocked AT&T Focus, when I'm using indosat (IM3) carrier, I'm having this issue. I downloaded Network Profile from Samsung Zone. After reboot the device, the network profile still pick AT&T, and I can't change it to my carrier.
Then I tried change my carrier to 3, after reboot the phone, the network profile changed to 3 INA. And after that I haven't got that issue till now.
Not sure what caused this. But when I looked at the registry there's a bunch of duplicated APN settings.
I had a similar issue, Focus AT&T on EU network.
Chevron unlocked and enabled the 3G toggle.
From time to time, I couldn't download from Marketplace or use the 3G connection. That was before I updated to NoDo. I haven't experienced this again since I updated.
To fix that, I used to toggle 3G off and on again after 15-30 seconds.
Sometimes, even that didn't work and I had to leave 3G off. Any lower data connection was working while 3G wasn't.
Speaking of data connection, not everyone is aware that after updating to NoDo, HSUPA is disabled on AT&T.
I'm having the same issue.
I´m using an unlocked at&t samsung focus at my local carrier.
I have this issue a few times a day, and the only way to restore my internet connection is rebooting.
I have noticed that this happens when my phone changes to Edge and goes back to 3G again. The issue doesn't seems to happen every time, but sometimes I lost connection.

I was having the same issue, being unable to connect to 3G. Just go the first page after Googling: set att apn. AT&T users should put in the APN, username and password. Hope it helps! It worked for me. =D

[Q] Mobile data issue

I have found a really weird issue since (officially) updating to lollipop (N910C, BOC3). Initially, mobile data worked fine, but after a day or two I noticed, that after going off of wifi, I only got edge connection. I rechecked the settings, restarted the phone but the phone just doesn't go past edge (to 3g or hsdpa; no lte yet for me).
So I then chose to hard reset my phone, wipe cache and reinstall everything. At first, everything went fine and I had H+ connection, no problem. I tried to enable/disable wifi and mobile data a couple of times, but all seemed fine. Today (after 1 day), I noticed again that mobile data is stuck on EDGE.
As far as I remember, everything worked fine on 4.4.4. I even rechecked my sim and settings on my old XperiaZ, where H+ works normally.
Any ideas?

Update: After messing around, I found that by setting the network to wcdma only, allowed the phone to connect to 3g. This means that when left on automatic network mode, the phone choses 2g network and won't switch to 3g even if it is available... Do you guys know a setting where you can tell it to preferentially chose 3g, while on the auto network mode? P.S. I don't have any battery saving options turned on...
Bump... No one knows how to set preferred connection type?
Are you in a room when you are testing? Have you tried to go outside, and while you are connected to edge or H/H+ , open up your internet browser and go to a website and watch your connection if it changes to LTE or 4G...
There is an app that can do what you are asking but you have to root your device in order for it to work... I can't remeber what it's called and I know someone will chime in...

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not rooted yet and will try to keep it that way for a little while yet... will see how long i'll last xD
Manual mode will have to suffice for now, seeing as rooting is the only option. Might be a carrier setting related problem =/

Roaming on VZW after CM13

When I first started using CM13 my signal went to roaming when I know I should have service. I have data roaming off and I've checked to make sure I'm not getting charged for roaming and I'm not. My phone works as it should and I can do everything I need still so I was hoping it would be fixed in one of the new updates. I am on the newest nightly build as of this morning and the R above my signal is still there, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem or know the cause?

Same issue here. Nexus 6 Verizon, just switched to CM13 and I'm stuck on roaming - so far I've tried airplane mode for a minute or two, turning the data off and on, turning the phone off and on, and chatting with Verizon support in case they could do anything remotely. The one thing I haven't done though is try putting another sim card into my phone to see if I could divine any information that way.
Any help would be appreciated.
So after trying just about everything I decided to cave in and jump back to CM12. It was there that I noticed a key difference:
CM12's settings -> mobile network settings, has the following sub-options:
Data Roaming on/off
Preferred Network Type
Enhanced 4G LTE Mode on/off
System select
Access Point Names
CM13 (nightly #2) only has:
Data Roaming
Preferred Network Type
System Select
...while in all honesty I don't know what it all means except to say that it appears to be missing some features of the CM12 nightly I'm using on my Nexus 6 on Verizon. I guess I'll try back in a week or three to see if everything is working fine.
For whatever reason I had LTE pop up for like 2 seconds but went back to R and has stayed since..

Mobile Networks disappears from settings

On a recent trip I made which took me outside my network's coverage area, I found that, on returning, my phone did not re-connect to the network. And, when I went to look at what might be wrong, I found that the "Mobile Networks" panel was missing from the Settings menu.
This problem was also reported by an S6 user here:

Now, in my case, a reboot immediately restored the network connectivity and the settings panel, and all is well again. However, I was back inside the service area for most of a day before I realized the problem and did the reboot. So almost a day's worth of messages were delayed. This is obviously not a good thing.
In my case, my SIM is with US-Mobile, a T-Mobile MVNO. The trip was a drive outside the coverage area into Canada and then northern Maine. I mention that it was a drive to point out that the phone was not put into flight mode during a flight somewhere, it was simply moved out of my own network's coverage area. When I drove back, the phone bars did show service active again, but no data service. Simply toggling the "Mobile data" toggle in the pull-down, as well as toggling "Airplane mode" had no effect - on turning them back on, the voice bars came on, but not data service. When I eventually rebooted, the data service came back immediately.
My phone is the SM-G935FD, not rooted, running stock Samsung firmware, up-to-date G935FXXU1APEQ version. It is UAE firmware.
I'm reporting this here in the hope that someone knows some way of automating the re-start of the Mobile Networks system, so that folk don't lose a whole day of messages.
Or maybe a Samsung dev will read this and figure out what bug caused Mobile Networks to stop in the first place. Maybe this bug can be fixed, please?
