[Q] Replace SystemUI to get rid of S5 quick settings - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hate the quick settings in the notification panel of my Galaxy S5.
I'd like to disable it. I've searched for an Xposed module to do the work, but the closes I got was a "Xposed G-Touchwiz" tha helped me to hide the S-finder and Quick Connect buttons.
So I was wondering... Is it possible (or will it work if) to replace the SystemUI.apk with a version from, let say, CM? I'm not sure what else the SystemUI do, but I've crazy seen people replacing it to get the S5 quick settings buttons.
I would appreciate if anyone knows how to get rid of the quick settings in notification shade of the stock Galaxy S5.
Thanks.

It won't work with a cm systemui.apk. will most likely give you a ton of force closes. There are many custom Roms though with it either turned off or the option of turning the bar off. Just pull the systemui.apk from these Roms and replace yours.

Hi,
I guess you did this in a custom rom? And compiled it yourself?
If so.. Could you share it maybe? I could integrate it into my Xposed module "Xposed G-Touchwiz" ofcourse with credits to you =).
Thanks,

Yeah! Thats sound sweet. If Xposed G-Touchwiz could get rid of the Quick Settings it would be awesome!
BTW, thank you very much for Xposed G-Touchwiz. It helped a lot!

Thanks, great to hear that. Only I have to wait for a reply from @Goldie or start digging in the SystemUI myself with no knowledge where to search..

I've replaced the SystemUI,apk from the AOKP rom, but I'm missing something.
What I did:
In folder /system/priv-app
Renamed SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.old
Renamed SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.odex.old
Copy the new SystemUI.apk to the folder /system/priv-app
Changed permissions of the new file, so it match the permission of the original file (rw-r--r--).
Reboot
It didn't work. One time I got the same notification shade as if I haven't done anything. Other time the notification area was completely gone.
The problem, I think, is that I don't have the SystemUI.odex file, nor could I find it on the AOKP rom.
Can you please enlighten me?

How did you get that? Share with us, please!

Its an option in my rom. The aim of the rom is to make people realise that they dont HAVE to use xposed. There are still people doing things the old way and modding the base files. The one in the screenshot is part of Kitkat style and you can switch to it or a whole bunch of other styles in one click.
For example you could have S5 style but then turn toggles off....
And then maybe sfinder off....
Or have a carbon look with toggles at the bottom...
If you like to change stuff to suit your taste you should try it!

Hi! You just sold me your fish! (Its a Brazilian expression!)
I installed Alliance ROM and I'm pretty much satisfied. Nice work you've done!
But it would be nice to have those features on a Xposed module too.
One thing that I dind't realize how to do is how to get rid of the second page toggles (the page on notification shade that shows all the toggles). As a suggestion, it would be nice to have a way to hide some of those useless icons/toggles.

Just for future reference (for those who tried), do NOT attempt to use SystemUIs from other devices/roms especially on an odexed rom. Thats recipe for FC's and bootlooops.

Xposed happens to be my only option at the moment.

Goldie, I would love an allianceRom version for sprint! Until then, how did you do it? I tried pulling the systemui.apk but couldn't find an editable xml. Any pointer would be awesome.

Xposed IS my only alternative....

Hmmm... I don't ever use this... but if it was working before... should work fine now cause I changed only one word in the smali file to get the AOSP lockscreen...
it was "GlassLock" and then I changed to "TapLock"... simple as that... I have not messed with anything else that could cause this issue...

Wow that was fast!

Oops, all of the above functions are what I need, but I want to keep the "fully charged notifications" as I found it very useful
Am I gonna deal with decompiling SystemUI.apk?
What should I do with the xml files, and which file is it?

Or if editing SystemUI.apk is simple, please show me what code to re-add in which smali file after decompiling?
Anyway, I still prefer doing things by myself with instructions
I saw version 5.3 in your Serenity ROM thread, but 14 toggles are too many for me..

Z1/Z2 Launcher for 0dpi navbar (gap removed)

Hello
I'm using LMT because I hate navbar that takes up my screen. Stock sony launcher unfortunately leaves a gap if you get rid of navbar. I fixed it. Thanks @dipesh1502 for this tutorial. It really helped me.
Now the launcher uses the entire screen. I also added another row to the desktop.

That's right. I'm using LMT instead of softkeys and gravitybox to remove the navbar.

still have a gap issue...
OK.. So I have installed your modified home.apk into my system folder.. I've deleted my original home.apk and home.odex files... The launcher does remove the bottom gap.. but now the gap is at the top...
Very saddened by this.. I wanted a complete gapless xperia home launcher.. Without using anything else like nova or blinkfeed or anything
Any idea as to how I can now remove the top gap??
If needed I'll post a screenshot

all of which are enabled with various tweaks amongst them enabled also
im running Stock KK 4.4.2, locked bootloader, dual recovery, SuperUserMod, rooted, SuperSU
If you require anymore info, please dont hesitate to PM me or reply here, maybe its something in my modules or something that im over looking
Tnap1979
Well, it has to be something in your modules as they're definitely modding Home.apk which is already modded. You'll have to check one-by-one which one is doing that.
Will update this home apk to the latest .108 firmware really soon.

Yes, it is quite an easy mod, I made it for Echoerom.
I edited four .pio files that must be replaced into systemUI.apk, so that they can be easily seen both when the navbar background is black or white (just some gimp and paint).
If any of you can share the systemUI.apk from Ambasadi's rom (the dev wrote that anybody is free to use his work) I'll mod it and eventually open a separate thread, though it's not real modding, just little tricks.
As a rule of thumb, any nougat systemUI.apk should work.
This mod requires you to use a different launcher (I modded a pixel launcher that works fine with navbar Btw).

Sorry, I need a systemui from a deodexed rom to replace the inner resources.
If you use "Custom navigation bar", you can change the layout and button images easily. And if you want to change the background, "Navbar Apps" will change it.
I can't use English well. Sorry for my bad English...

GRX TouchWiz Mod (For Non-Rooted Phone)

Hello Guys,
Most of them Wanted GRX TouchWiz Mode for Non-Rooted Phones So i have Modded the GRX to work on Galaxy Note-9 SM-N960F and SM-N960U Only (oreo 8.1) (No Root Required)
Installation Guide,
1) Install the TouchWiz.apk and GRXTouchWiz.apk as Normal Installation you do
2) If you have the SABS or Package disabler pro you disable the Samsung Touchwiz.apk (or you if dont have app to disable no issue, just go to settings and make touchwiz home in installed apps section as default Launcher)
3) Then go to settings and give permissions for the TouchWizHome.apk for Phone and storage and go to Advance options and then turn ON apps that can appear on top, and apps that can change system settings.
Thats it, all done
In case If the Installation fails then go to settings/Apps/(press on 3 dot option)/Show system app/Samsung Experience Launcher/(press on 3 dot option)/Uninstall Update/ Then Re-Follow the Installation Guide from 1st
Bugs in GRX TouchWiz mod
In landscape mode the apps text wont come and the widgets wont resize properly

Credits to @josete_1976 for creating this apk for rooted devices
and to @RogueList for converting it to Snapdragon Note 9
Thank you bro. ?
Most appreciated my brother.
Does anyone have this working yet?
I get a message when opening (going home, I should say):
Clones are device-locked
This helps to prevent abuse and redistribution of cloned apps
Please use App Cloner to recreate the clone on this target device.....
And more following including my device id and such.
I have actually never seen this message before, But I have also never really messed around with touchwiz before.
Any advice?
You are the man my friend. Many thanks for this exciting mod!

I got this very same message. Would love to know what the solution is. Thanks for the mod.
I keep getting the ':Clones are device locked' message. I am using a N960U. Is this an Exynos specific port?
Thank you!

Serious? This is Exynos only? - what is different about touchwiz between the 2? I would seriously consider going back to touchwiz with this.
Whenever I see my wife using her stock S8, I honestly am somewhat jealous of how fluid it looks....
Thank you! Perfect!
Is there any possibility of a Snapdragon port?

Sorry! i dont have Snapdragon device to test, Cant help.
Thanks for this. One thing I like is that it would allow increasing grid size, but curious if there are other features? Also, to revert back to Samsung Experience if needed, do we just choose it as default Home again, and uninstall?

you can uninstall this if you dont want, (there are more features like the icons go edge below the navigation bar much more explore in the GRX mode settings apk for more customisation

Thanks. Trying it now.
Is there a way to eliminate that 'zero page' from opening, what is it? Keeps opening as the settings crashes every now and then.
Also, is there a way to remove Dock Icon texts?
Thanks.
