For those who want the 32gb version - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

I doubt any carrier will have the 32gb version of the s5, but it seems there is a way: in short, it seems that we can order one internationally and then get it activated by sprint (though I believe it may depend on your account status).
from my research it seems that all phones are capable of working on ANY carrier, though its just that the GSM/CDMA part may be locked, but the carriers have a way of unlocking them.
I had a chat with a sprint rep, here it is:
You: hello, I have a question, can I buy an unlock galaxy s5 and activate it with Sprint?
............
Maggie D.: I have read your chat reason. Just to clarify you still don't have a Sprint Account, correct?
You: no, I do have a sprint account
Maggie D.: Oh.
Maggie D.: Before we begin, I'll need information from you that allows me to access your account. Please provide me with your:
* Name
* Wireless phone number
* PIN (6-10 digit)
You: ok,
......
Maggie D.: Thank you.
You: np
Maggie D.: Yes, that is correct. You can have it activated on Sprint.
Maggie D.: Please let me know if you're still available to chat with me so I can continue to assist you.
You: Thank you, that's great.
even if it says GSM? because I know all the phones are capable of both gsm and cdma...
Maggie D.: Yes, you are correct. Do you have the device with you Michael? I can assist you in activating the device if you like.
You: no, not yet
Maggie D.: Oh. I see.
You: but I wanted to make sure before I bought it. thank you so much
Maggie D.: Just please make sure that t he device is ready for activation. Do you have the MEID of the device? I can check it for you if it is available.
You: no I dont
You: but thank you so much for the information and help
Maggie D.: You are welcome. Please contact us back if you already have the MEID of the device so we can check it for you.
You: ok, thank you
Maggie D.: You are welcome. And thank you also for being our valued customer.
Maggie D.: My goal is to ensure that everything is resolved to your satisfaction. Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
You: nope
Maggie D.: If you require assistance in the future, please don’t hesitate to chat with us again.

Maggie D.: Goodnight Michael.
You: goodnight Maggie
Maggie D.: Thank you for choosing Sprint - we appreciate your business!

I'm not sure I would trust that. A change like that in Sprints policy would have had much more fanfare and been more widely announced.
I'm guessing the chat rep misunderstood your question. Before you buy, I would specifically ask again if Sprint would activate. Non-sprint branded phone.
I suspect you will get a no.

pretty sure they misunderstood your question, sprint won't activate any phone with an ESN unknown to them. If the ESN is not in their database (ie it wasn't purchased originally from sprint or a sprint reseller), they will not activate it

I agree if it's not a "Sprint" phone it won't activate.
The internal SD isn't very useful. Just get a big external SD Card.

Not everything can be placed on external storage. Some Apps must stay on the internal storage.... Files for private mode must be on internal storage.... etc. Extra Internal storage is always a plus.

US Dell Venue Pro on Foreign Networks

It would be nice to have a place to gather all the info we can on that. I'm sure a lot of people are considering importing a DVP from the US but they have to know if it works.
Had anyone bought the US HTC HD2 and tried it abroad? I found an old thread where someone had bought the TMOUS HD2 to use in Egypt and it was fine.
This is what Dell had to say:
17:08:03 System You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat
17:08:03 System Connected with Jerson_Berdos
17:08:18 Jerson_Berdos Welcome to Dell US Chat! My name is Jerson and I will be your Dell.com Sales Chat Expert. I can be reached at [email protected] or via phone at 1-800-289-3355 ext. 7284516. How can I help you today?
17:08:23 Jerson_Berdos Hi Steve
17:08:27 Steve Hi
17:08:58 Steve I was just about to order a Dell Venue Pro on your website but I need to clarif something
17:09:18 Jerson_Berdos Ok, what would it be ?
17:09:24 Jerson_Berdos Ill be happy to assist you.
17:10:29 Steve I know that the phone is sim locked to T-Mobile in the US but I'm leaving soon for Europe... Will I be able to use a European sim card in it or is it locked outside of the US too?
17:10:58 Steve I'm leaving in January for about a month
17:12:23 Jerson_Berdos I have to be straightforward Steve, it wont work because it is locked with T-mobile.
17:12:59 Jerson_Berdos If I may suggest, would you rather choose dell streak?
17:13:16 Steve I know but some phones are locked to a US network but still work in Europe so I was wondering if the DVP was one of these phones
17:14:03 Jerson_Berdos Im sorry but I cannot assure you if that would work.
17:14:48 Jerson_Berdos Do you want to purchase one right now?
17:16:01 Steve That was my intention but I need a clear answer to this and it seems you're almost sure it won't work. Yet it works with some other phones so I'm hesitant
17:16:44 Jerson_Berdos I understand.
17:16:44 Steve I would have thought that investing in a $500 sim free mobile would be enough to at least get it unlocked
17:17:34 Jerson_Berdos Oh I see
17:17:49 Jerson_Berdos Im sorry, still would not work in Europe.
17:18:24 Jerson_Berdos Still I cannot assure you. I dont want you to buy something not work 100% for you.
17:19:03 Steve So basically I won't know until some people report on it
17:19:39 Jerson_Berdos Yes.. :0
17:19:39 Jerson_Berdos
17:20:45 Steve You know it does support the bands I need so technically it should work don't you think?
17:22:44 Jerson_Berdos It's a possibility..
17:23:22 Steve do you genuinely not know or can't you tell me?
17:23:54 Jerson_Berdos The only information that I have here is it's for US use only.
17:24:49 Jerson_Berdos
17:25:40 Steve Ok then, I will wait before ordering. Thank you
17:26:24 Jerson_Berdos You're welcome Steve, Would there be anything else i can help you with?
17:26:49 Steve no that's it thank you
17:27:10 Jerson_Berdos May I ask you a favor? Can you answer the short survey that will appear after you exit this chat? Our team is determined to satisfy our customers and the survey responses will reflect our performance. We’d love it if you add some few notes on the “Comments” field.
17:27:25 Jerson_Berdos The survey will appear above the chat session window once you click the EXIT button. Please scroll up so you can see it. =) Thanks again!
17:27:29 Steve alright
17:28:30 Jerson_Berdos I hope you won't mind if I disengage our chat session for me to assist other customers online. Thanks!
17:28:52 Steve ok
17:28:54 Steve bye
17:29:05 Jerson_Berdos Thanks
17:29:20 System Jerson_Berdos has left this session!
17:29:20 System The session has ended
I was told to just call tmobile and ask for the unlock code. I'm also suggesting to try putting in a different (foreign or other carrier) sim to check if the phone is unlock. I have heard some rumors that some venue pro that was sold earlier was unlocked. Some customer service reps only read from scripts and since Tmobile is their launch partner, they discourage selling the phone to be use on a different carrier.

The ones that were sold early by Microsoft were unlocked and had no branding. It seems like the new ones have the T-Mobile branding and as such they are likely locked to that network.
Well,
Seems like Lionel Menchaca gave some interesting info on unlocking...
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-b...tails-for-customers-in-the-united-states.aspx
It seems that it currently isn't officially supported, but the phone will be released in different countries and sometimes fully unlocked...
Guess we'll have to wait...
It's hard, but I really want one so I hope that waiting will be worth it...
He's saying that in some regions the phone will be sold unlocked, like here in the UK. That doesn't change the question, even if the US version is locked to T-Mobile it could still be able to work internationally like the US HD2.
The phone does have the capability to work outside the US. You won't get the 3g data unless the carrier you have supports 1700 AWS, which I believe only T-Mobile and a provider in Canada use, so Europe is out on the high speed data
I believe it's 1700, 900 and 2100 so that would work in Europe.

Sorry sir, but you are wrong. I have explained this on another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9564519&postcount=19
The DVP will definitely work on 3G in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Thank you sir .

To be able to use a Galaxy Tab elsewhere, you need need to have the GSM version, like you can see in Roto's thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323 and also, here :
http://www.slashgear.com/verizon-galaxy-tab-review-15113997/
Unfortunately (for you), Verizon is basically a CDMA operator; their Tabs are coming with a special module for controlling the access in their network,
and cannot take a SIM card... I am really sorry for you and hope this helps... Am I right, guys ? Please correct me if I'm wrong !
Googling Indonisia and CDMA indicates that there are CDMA networks there.
As far as i am aware though, CDMA devices are not locked - you just need to get the new network to register the ESN of the device. I could be wrong though!
Regards,
Dave
What are you trying to unlock? There is a code to bypass the activation if you want to use it via Wifi.
If you are just trying to bypass the activation to get the device to work click this link: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/11/26/how-to-bypass-activation-on-the-samsung-galaxy-tab/
As far as getting Verizon in Indonesia i have no idea if it is even possible.
(if you have an android cell phone, just tether it to your galaxy so you don't have to for more data. You can find a tutorial on youtube on how to tether your device to your galaxy tab.

The ESN for the device is a bit like a GSM IMEI number, and is unique to the device. Therefore the only way to get the ESN is to buy the Tab!

hello someone know for DIAG MODE samsung galaxy tab?
please someone help me
Sell the Tab on eBay and buy a GSM version instead. Trying to get an off-network CDMA device to work basically involves bribing someone at the telco to enter it into their system. It's unlikely to work. Easier, quicker and probably cheaper in the long run to sell it and buy one that will work properly.

OFFICIAL Unlocking 306SH

Toady, wireless carriers in the US now have to follow new rules for device unlocking.
Since the Crystal is only available on Sprint's network, below are Sprint's new policies on unlocking:

Yes. If you meet the criteria mentioned above for your respective 306SH, the GSM capabilities will be unlocked.
Which carriers besides Sprint it will work on after unlock beats me.
There's another thread you can look at if you need unlock and are not eligible for an official unlock.

For those who can't click a link and read, this is verbatim from the Prepaid link:
General Eligibility for Unlocking
Sprint Prepaid will unlock a device (i.e., provide the MSL Code and/or perform a domestic SIM unlock (DSU)) under the following circumstances:
•The device has not been reported as lost or stolen or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
•The device has been active on the associated account for at least 12 months with the account active at that time
If you believe you meet the above requirements and would like to request that your DSU-capable device be unlocked and/or request the MSL Code, contact Sprint Prepaid Customer Care by dialing 855-639-4644.

I don't know how to. Honestly, I have no need to unlock it since I am content with the service I have with Boost.
The only thing I can see that is close to using the MSL is the UICC Unlock function. Even then, I don't know if that is correct or not.

SERIOUSLY!!!??? Of course it won't say anything about those outside the US!
The links went to Sprint's website. If you don't have access to Sprint then it OBVIOUSLY does NOT apply to you. Sprint is right to assume that phones that can only work on their network (306SH) give them domain to set policies that apply only to their phones. That is how telcos work.
The globally integrated phenomenon known as the Internet and Commerce allow people to obtain items they normally couldn't. That same phenomenon beings people here, to XDA, to work around such legally allowed restrictions.
THERE IS ANOTHER THREAD THAT APPLIES TO YOUR (and others) CASE. Go there. Ask your questions there. I can't help you since I do not know how. Someone last night (as of this post) was able to unlock it. Try that. Post your results. Be constructive. Simple as that!
I am pissed off and aggravated when people obviously go to the wrong thread to ask a question that already exists in a different thread, and has most likely already answered their question by the time it is asked.
Let common sense be your guide. Know where X properly goes and put it there. Use that thing in your head AND THINK FOR YOURSELF.

There isn't ANY proof to confirm either. Until someone gets it unlocked through Sprint or tries the methods on the other thread, and successfully actives the Crystal on another Carrier and reports about it. No one can know for sure.
I'm operating on the established theory in this forum that the 305SH and 306SH are the same phone with different Sharp names. It makes sense, to me at least, that if the Crystal is unlocked to be able to operate on other Carriers that the frequencies the modem will work on will be opened up for use. There is ZERO proof to any of this. I will readily admit that. But until theory becomes fact (if it is or is not GSM capable) through validated experience, either option can be the case. The lack of Root and general development is frustrating. Also that there are modes of the Crystal that we know absolutely NOTHING about only adds to the mystery of this phone. I love it to pieces, but will switch when a "better" phone on Boost is available (I'm hoping the rumors of the HTC Desire 626 are true).

i just ask Sprint on facebook, i ask him sharp aquos crystall can use GSM, he said Not for domestic use. You should be able to use it for international use only. Go to sprint.com/prepaidsupport and Sprint.com/prepaid for assistance. Thank you. - Geraldine
that mean it can use for international use only, anyone explain it

That is awesome, so now when you want to use another carrier you can as long as your phone will allow and you meet all the requirements.

Unable to get voice in LTE, but voice works in 3G - StraightTalk & Lineage 14.1

Dear All,
I have been having this issue since last Monday (June 25).
I use Lineage OS 14.1 and G900V on StraightTalk (Verizon network).
It has been working fine in the last 12 months.
All of sudden, I can only get 3G + voice/text.
If I switched the preferred network type to LTE, I got LTE, but voice/text is dead (emergency call only).
I play around with Preferred Network Type settings via *#*#4636#*#*, also tried it with many possible combination of network type on Settings-->Cellular Networks-->Preferred network type.
Here are the settings that I found work:
CDMA auto (PRL) --> 3G + voice/text
LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) --> 3G + voice/text
LTE only --> LTE + NO voice/text (emergency call only)
LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) --> LTE + NO voice/text (emergency call only)
I want to know, does anybody else experience this issue? Is this StraightTalk issue, Verizon issue, G900V, or settings in Lineage?
Thank you so much for your help.
P.S.: If this is StraightTalk issue, please let me know what's the best BYOP carrier for LTE with StraightTalk. Or what's the best MVNO for LTE with Lineage.

I've got the G900V device with LineageOS using the Net10 with the Verizon Towers and I've got no issues with the 4G LTE Voice.
Which is weird because Straight Talk and Net10 are both sister companies owned by TracFone.
Maybe you need to update your Baseband Modem?
Mine is the QL1 Baseband Version.

Hi Ibuprophen,
Thank you for the suggestion. My baseband has been QL1, and I never touched it.
What I have been doing is updating Lineage OS (nightly build).
Did it get updated when I update LineageOS?
Do you think I need to downgrade my baseband?
Thanks a lot.

I don't believe that it's the baseband if your up to date.
When it comes to updating the LineageOS, my personal preference is that I update it around a Quarterly basis. I've never felt that it needs updates very frequently. The only caveat would be if an issue arose specific to the Firmware but, I don't currently see any issues myself.
What you may need to do is contact Straight Talk Support to get them to refresh your device in the system for the Verizon Towers.
I used to have to do this with Net10 (using the Chat session with their Support) every few months when I used to loose data and MMS suddenly.

I am on chat with StraightTalk right now. When I asked her to refresh my device in the system for the Verizon Towers, she said "That's not the process". After asking for my IMEI and SIM, she's doing something now.

Ok, so here is what she said.
Since I am not in my original activation zipcode area, I am out of luck, because all of Verizon tower is full.
She quoted the term about roaming. I told her that I'm not in Sprint network, but she insisted "roaming" simply means I am outside of my original activation code.
So, the interesting part is, she said that I need to change my area code (change my phone number literally) in order to update to the matching zipcode. I first became ST customer 5 years ago, with zipcode AAAAA, and then I moved to zipcode BBBBB and switched to CDMA (ST with Verizon network). I thought they updated my zipcode to BBBBB. Apparently, my activation zipcode forever is going to be AAAAA, unless I'm willing to change my phone number to match.
Aside from all of that, if I am not mistaken, the general rule is that MVNO users will always have lower priority. So, I think what she said is contradicting that fact, because she said if I'm in the activation zipcode then I will be guaranteed to get LTE.
I am really confused now...any idea? Is it time to switch to Net10 perhaps?
Thanks a lot.

OH MY WORD... LMAO!
Honestly, you were given a bunch of hot air based upon the fact that she really did not know what to do or what happened.
My mother moved from New Hampshire to Florida and has been in Florida for 3 years with the same New Hampshire number, a Version Samsung J3 device and Straight Talk without any issues with her 4G LTE voice at all.
A few years ago I had Net10 and gave Straight Talk a try and then a few months later, after dealing with support who gave me this type of Malachi for something else, i went right back to Net10.
Net10 isn't perfect but, I know how to talk to them and easily get things figured out.
I'll give you a hint when dealing with Net10 Support... Always use the Chat Session support. It sometimes takes a touch longer but, I always can get things done quicker and easier than through the voice call option.
If you do decide to go to Net10, be sure you that Straight Talk releases your IMEI/ESN/Serial Number (all 3 are the same but, uses different names). There's a difference between them removing the device from the your Straight Talk account and releasing the device from the system.
I do wish you the best of luck!

Yep... exactly, this is not the first time ST gave me this kind of nonsense.
I contacted them again, the rep was going to forward the case to their network specialist, unfortunately the dept. closed already. I will try again tomorrow.
Btw, I saw this forum. Any experience with this? Do you think the rep here are knowledgeable?
https://www.straighttalkwirelessforum.com/portal.php
So, if I want to switch to Net10, should I call ST first to release the device, or Net10 first?
Thanks a lot!

I don't know about that specific forum but, those types of forums typically end up with robo type of copy and paste responses (like Google, Microsoft, Verizon and others) that ultimately ask you to contact their support team.
First, have the phone released from their system before contacting Net10. Net10 will let you know if you're still in tied to the Straight Talk system.

Btw, the rep I talked this morning checked with their network specialist department, they tried to do something, and said that my SIM card is not responding (error). So, they're going to mail me a new SIM card. That sounds weird to me.... do you think they do the right thing this time?

The new SIM card being sent (from Straight Talk I presume) is typically for the reasons including what you were told and also (of course without admitting it) if they just can't figure out what's wrong and are hoping that a new SIM will rectify the issue.
There's nothing wrong with waiting to see if this will work out for you. Basically giving them the benefit of doubt.
I'm curious to see how this works out for you. Please let me know after you get the new SIM going from them.
You never know... LMAO!
Good Luck My Friend!

Yep... that's what I am afraid, they couldn't figure out how to set my SIM properly on their end, and decided to just change the SIM. I am afraid how many "zombies SIMs" in their SIM registry if this is how they handle stuff. But for sure it makes the SIM manufacturer happy, but frustrated the software developer ("Dude, you blew up my linked list!! I used 256 bit integer already!!")
Yes, I will keep you updated, thank you so much. :fingers-crossed:
Possibly my update would be "Indeed, the lawn is greener in Net10 camp!!" :victory:

Greetings Ibuprophen
So... after another chat with ST, I came to conclusion that they didn't provide any sort of training to their Customer Service team. And of course, even though they know the SIM is defective, they still cannot expedite shipping the new SIM replacement, and also it's not available in local Walmart.
I switched to Net10 today!
Porting process is not smooth, there are 2 problems, but the chat rep seemed more knowledgeable and also very courteous on the phone.
Problem #1: Their system cannot take my phone (cryptic error). They said they have to register it to Net10 system first (which means removing it from ST). Surprisingly I don't need to contact ST, they can do everything from their side (presumably because they are sister companies). So, I contacted the chat rep. Continue to problem #2...
Problem #2: After she removed my phone from ST, registered it to Net10, she still needs to create an account. Then afterward I need to go through activation process online as she cannot process credit card (I haven't purchased refill/service plan/airtime card). At the last step (placing the order, processing the payment), it failed. Three times. Continue to problem #3...
Problem #3: I need to call the rep to figure out what's wrong. At the final step when I supposedly provide the credit card to purchase the airtime card, he mentioned the price, and I asked him to enable auto-refill to get $5 off. He told me first time purchase aren't allow to enable auto-refill, even though on the activation website there is no indication of this restriction. Anyway, so I told him I will use the website without checking auto-refill... and voila... it works!
So, it's not smooth, but they're very helpful. Yep, took me 1 hour to chat and talked on the phone.
But the amazing thing is, it worked almost instantaneously!! Literally, 30 seconds after I completed online activation and number porting, while I was wrapping up the conversation with the rep (he asked if I'm willing to fill up survey), he asked me to reboot my phone and plug in the SIM card (because he saw porting is complete). To my surprise, it works! Yep.. 30 seconds to port the number is pretty cool.
And... I got everything works fine again. LTE data, voice and text work, including MMS, without changing anything (not even the APN). I know, they use the same APN anyway.
Oh.. one surprising thing is, she told me that I can use my Straight Talk SIM for Net10 service (of course, she needs to add my SIM # to Net10 account). Of course I refuse because my "fellow" in ST told me that my ST SIM card is defective
So, my conclusion is:
1. If their online activation system failed to take your device, contact the chat rep. Or phone rep.
2. Make sure you don't check auto-refill for the first time (when purchasing airtime during activation).
3. Use Net10 as it's easier to find the SIM card locally, so that if something like this happens and you need to activate new SIM, you don't have to wait 1 week for the new SIM card to arrive.
Ok, that's all. Let me know if you want me to share more details or if you have further questions.
P.S.: So... I still don't know what's the real cause why my ST behaved that way. I believe what you said is right, something wrong with Verizon tower registration. But too bad... ST reps and network specialist are not knowledgeable enough to solve it. And there goes the 512-bit integer in the making...

I wasn't aware that Net10 was now able to release a devices ESN from a sister carrier.
This worked out for you very well!
I don't use the Auto Refill myself because I sometimes don't have the funds available when it's due for a refill. I just purchase a $35 card with Unlimited everything with up to 3GB Data at 4G LTE speeds then the lower speeds afterwards (only because I use WiFi approx 90% +/- of the time).
As long as your good to go now and I'm happy that I was able to help make you happy too.
Unless you require something else, to see if I can help you with, I'll wish you the best of luck and I hope all remains well!!!

Btw, I just want to give another update.
The replacement SIM card from Straight Talk arrived, and guess what... it is the exact same SIM card as the one I got from Net10!
Inside there is a piece of paper with universal instruction to activate the SIM card for Tracfone, Net10, ST, SafeLink, Telcel, Total Wireless, and Walmart Family Mobile.
Conclusion: They (Tracfone and all of its sister companies) use universal SIM card now. No wonder the Net10 rep told me that she can activate my Net10 service on ST SIM card.
So, if that's the case, I would have used Net10 SIM and stayed with ST as it's a bit cheaper.
Update: Please see later post below.
Cheers!

Well...
TracFone is actually owned by a Mexican Telecom Company called "América Móvil" but, TracFone (HQ in Florida) is the "Parent" company of 10 major providers in the USA. They're TracFone Wireless, NET10 Wireless, Total Wireless, Safelink Wireless, Straight Talk, Telcel América, SIMPLE Mobile, Page Plus Cellular, GoSmart Mobile, and Walmart Family Mobile.
The BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) SIM Cards have always looked the same that all state TracFone on them. There's a certain set of numbers within the SIM Card Number that determines various things like the Company listed above, the carrier it's for (AT&T, Verizon, etc...) and more.
Universal SIM cards... I had chatted with a Net10 supervisor about this and I was told that this was something that has been talked about and wasn't sure exactly where this is at this point of time but, told me that this hasn't been done yet because the supervisors would have been made aware of this.
In addition, I was told that the Porting of a Cell Phone from one Sister Carrier to another has recently been established but, not for all of them yet. At this time, the only carrier that Net10 can Port a phone from is Straight Talk and more are being implemented slowly within their system over time.
Anyways, I'm happy to see that your happy now and thank you very much for letting me know know how things were going.
I, ultimately, believe that we both have learned something from each other that's a great thing!
I do wish you the best of luck my friend!

Does the international 6T have the exact same band support at the tmobile branded ver

I am buying on of these for family, and was not clear if the band support was the exact same between the two devices. I plan on rooting the device, but wanted to be clear on which device would offer the best network connectivity on US T-mobile. Thank You.
