Sony Xperia Z2 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 Video & Audio Comparison - Xperia Z2 General

Saw this on Youtube today:
This only concerns video/audio recording at 4K and 1080p.
Thought some of you might be interested.

The S5 does seem to have an upper hand on the front-facing camera, and in-door white balance is better.
The S5 video image is a lot sharper and more detailed with very vibrant colors. Whether those colors are more accurate or not I don't know, but it does look better in my opinion. Autofocus on the Z2 seems to be very good. The Z2 overheating after just a few minutes of 4K recording is slightly worrying, though. Makes 4K recording a bit of a useless gimmick on that phone. And, yes, lack of 4K displays and all that; it's still a prominent feature on that phone and should work properly.

I own both and am seeing the same results. The 4K overheating on Z2 s a PITA. S5 16Mpx shots in good light are also better than Z2 8Mpx Superior Auto shots (which is how I and 99% of users will take shots). In bad light both are pretty terrible.
Really torn... need to return or sell one of them soon.

Let's be honest guys. Samsung galaxy s5 beats z2 in anyway. Pictures are a lot sharper and more colorful. Audio quality is better in my opinion I believe in his opinion too cos he was using s5 audio most of the time.

Sony is advertising this phone for 4k video recording but it over heats and shuts it after few minutes. That's not okay and acceptable.

Galaxy Note - video quality grainy??

I just received this Galaxy Note and noticed that on youtube video playback, the HQ playback on various vids look grainy and somewhat pixelated. My friend has a Nexus and the same playback looks really clear. I've always heard great things about the Note's screen so I'm really surprised and disappointed. This is noticeable on different brightness levels. Can anyone suggest what I can do to determine if my screen has issues or if there is some setting I have to tweak?
You need to update your YouTube app as the default doesn't use hd, just hq. Also HD only works over wifi.

Thanks bud, updating the app worked.
HQ=480p. Obviously when you compare it to true HD, the HD will look better...

I hope you don't have the black clipping issue that is widespread on dark videos. By your're description of pixellation, it sounds like you might... :-(

I just got my note and it's showing the black clipping issues that are described here.... should I return my not and try to get one that doesn't have this issue?

As soon as you can, yes. Some units play almost unwatchable videos. Better units r out there

hmm.. This kinda reminds me of the Samsung screen lottery from a couple years ago lol... I'm going to do an exchange and see what happens

sad.. im facing the same problem as well. while using youtube to view clip, the dark side of the clip will black clipping

Killer feature : 2xfront speaker + infra remote control + ultrapixel with OIS.

What is your killer feature in HTC One? I think all the three feature makes me wanna buy one now.
I don't think any competitors have this very important feature.
What largely appeals to me is the boom sound. I can't wait till I have this phone in my hands.

Finally 2 Speakers started coming out. Hope samsung follows or else I will buy HTC One. Its important for me.
I'm choosing between One and XZ and for me One's killer feature is a screen and a processor.
I don't need two stereo speakers for the "old phone" ringtone or mail notification beeps.
The screen!
I think it's the highest ppi screen you will ever see in the market, the sgs4 can be 2% faster than the One (as usual) but they will never beat the 4.7'' 1080p SLCD3 with their 5'' 1080p,it's pure mathematics
The screen without a doubt.

Screen and Sound Quality...The 2 most important features for me!
The overall construction (looks amazing in all the videos of it I've seen so far) and the speakers. Hopefully the camera is as good as they say, if so then I will definitely get this
because i'm addicted to THC and i dont like samsung nor sense, but i like htc and the devs work at xda. aluminum is also nice such as the display.
processor to me, but any android apps thats actually demanding enough to push the hardware at all? the GPU is still the andreno 320.

I suspect he meant "HTC". Maybe all the THC is affecting his and your typing accuracy.

As for the question posed in this thread: in so far as there *is* a killer feature, I guess it's the colour accuracy of the screen; but the S600 chipset and stereo, forward-facing speakers help too.
ANother thing is i tend to use my phones as music players too..so i dont mind the slightly smaller screen..lol if 4.7 is small
As for the speakers I don't know...
I play 99% of my games muted
I won't watch videos on it because of the battery
Listening to music through such speakers is masochism
In the pocket both will be covered by my thigh so they will sound muffled
And on the table they will be acting as a huge dust collectors
1. Build quality
2. Two front speakers
3. Camera
4. Screen
.. and I hope battery life is good.

[Q] Loud Audio Recording

Has anyone seen video or heard for them selves how the S4 handles loud audio recording? I have a S3 and i know it sucks if you try to shoot a video at a concert...so how does the S4 do???
If you look on YouTube, someone posted a video taken by the S4 at a concert and it sounded great. They definitely resolved that issue.
definitely much improved

My only question is how many megapixels were those shots for the note 3. And it seems to gather more of a area of the photo!

From memory I took those all in maximum resolution on widescreen aspect ratio.
Also I've since upload a couple more comparison sets.

from the note 3(N9005) pics exif its clear it is using a new cam firmware........D13QSGH030A which differs from both I9500 and I9505 and my gut feeling is that in N9005 snapdragon version samsung might have used samsung sensor(bcos smasung camera modules have SGH codes) which might be capable of recording 4k videos while N9000 exynos might use the same IMX135 exmor RS sensor as used in I9500 without 4k recording........

I think 4k recording is purely based on the CPU, etc and not on the camera sensor. 13MP is 4808x2704 and 4k is just 3840×2160(8.3 MP) and only CPU should be able to make it shoot thirty 8.3 MP shots per second(i.e, 4k video at 30 fps). Pls correct me if I'm wrong!

Z1s LED Light on Back (Mods, please move to Q/A)

Compared to other phones, does this LED light (using for flashlight) perform a lot less than other phones or is it just mine? Compared to my phone in the past, this LED is VERY dim. My S3 had an overwhelming bright light.
I have not really compared mine with any phone, I will compare the Z1 with SGS4 when I get home from work and let you know
Light out put is less than my N4
Sent from my C6916 using xda app-developers app
It's pretty weak i must admit.
Compared to my Note 2 and iPhone 5s, it's very weak.
You don't want it strong like iPhone or the likes it kinda kills the photo and makes it to cool that is why on a dslr the flash is usually taken about 1 second before the shot so it dims a bit before the photo is shot so it adds more warmth rather then making the photo over cool

Pretty much in agreement that the light is week. Okay. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just mine.
Yes, it's very weak. With my Galaxy S3 it would perform better than a torch when it was dark outside. With my Xperia Z1 its crap as a torch. I'm not to bummed about it. Hell I hardly ever use Flash anyways.
It's a phone and not a flashlight

I could use my Xperia Play as a torch...
You should note that the Led is dim if you use it as a torch with a widget or program. But in camera mode when it's used as a flash it is pulsed much brighter! Test it for yourself.
@TheCraig: Yep, same here. I guess the Led of my Play could be used to make fire.

Thats why its being compared with other phones here and not with flashlights!
