The regular coverage map for data shows Spark coverage in addition to standard 3g/4g. Don't have it in my market yet but according to Sprint is supposed to reach peak speeds of 50-60mbps.

My stuff slow.....whats funny is they allegedly always workin on the towers or fixing something and always got the fukin nerve to be coming out with some allegedly newer or better/faster but never seems to fix what they already got running..... I swear if it wasn't for this employee discount that I receive which pretty much take $20 off my bill I would be so done with Sprint for this average service I get

I get at least 30 down and about 7-8 up in Dallas.

I dont go by sprint maps on their site. Go to s4gru.com become a member and donate about $10~$20 bucks to become a sponsor member which will let you see map coverage and every sprint tower in this country, can see which one is active with 3g only or 4g only or a towers with both 3g/4g active that site has alot of great info about sprints coverage and more.
Im in miami where band 41 in most tower is active but i cant recall if miami was already launched with spark but here's some tests.

According to Sprint....
"These tri-band devices support active hand-off mode between 800MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz providing data session continuity as the devices move between spectrum bands."
"these devices are expected to give users the best experience by shifting from one band to another, depending on what speed is needed for the application in use at a given moment."

Supposedly band 3 is for international. Enabling it does nothing.

I disabled band 3 and the other 3 options enabled. It doesnt let me choose the order. Looking at the sprint map it shows spark in dfw.

I live in the Portland Oregon metro area and on 2 occasions when my GF has called me (from her S4 to my S5), the call was in HD voice. From what I understand, this can only happen in a spark situation. So I am betting they are getting ready to fire up the towers here in PDX ahead of schedule.

Rite by miami international airport pretty good 42mb dw..

Here is my highest one so far on sprint LTE(not spark band 3 2500Mhz). My spark is disabled so I'm sure this is not spark speed. I'm in Kansas City HQ for sprint...what a joke!

Tri-band phones can only connect to LTE or CMDA(3G/1x) one at a time. To off set this towers and now being equipped Circuit Switched Fallback or Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback. You are probably in an are where the Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) and Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback (eCSFB) are not equipped on the towers. Sprint hasn't deployed this to most of its network yet. Areas that don’t have it already have no expected time frame for the roll out of this network technology, and since your smartphone is designed to prefer the ability to make and receive phone calls at all costs, it is programmed to stay on CDMA.

This is the best info that I've seen anout this situation. I can get LTE if I update PRL or toggle airplane mode. Calling Sprint does nothing BC most have no clue what this is and everything they see is working as should. Very very frustrating to hear "oh your device is the issue, go return it for a new one". I can also go into LTE only mode and it stay connected until I change it.

Tmobile's HSPA+ Network

For those of you who are confused about Tmo's HSPA+ network and making comments on it's durability, here is a link that is on Tmo's website. I figured I'd make it easy for those of you that can't seem to do research.
http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/hspa-mobile-broadband#
p.s. I have been in a couple of cities that carry HSPA+ right now and it's download speed from the interstate is around 4mbs. Remember peeps,IT'S NOT 4G. IT'S 4G LIKE. Quoted from Tmobile.
I am in an area that does not have HSPA+ and I pull down 4mb to 5mb all day long.

I believe you. KC is pulling that however there are still parts of KC that pulls 3g and edge. I have done the speed tests on that area (3x each). I believe that areas that are mentioned to have HSPA+ are probably still being boosted seeing how the network is still kinda new. I have noticed some members posting their speed results in places like Texas and the results are phenomenal.

Yep. I can attest to that. At work, the HSPA+ speed is beautiful. I can browse endlessly while tethering.
Although for some reason at home it says I have HSPA+ yet I lose data constantly, and it goes from HSPA+ to Edge, totally skipping 3G. Either way, I have no complaints since I can just use WiFi. It has worked well everywhere else since I got the phone.

None of the technologies available now are 4G, LTE isn't, and neither is WiMax, they are not capable of 100mbps download speeds, WiMax 2 and LTE plus are 4G networks and they won't be implemented till 2013, please get your facts straight. I got these facts from the comission that actually names the technologies. Google it

That map is awful. All of downtown Baltimore shows very fast, but I know of one tower in particular that is only UMTS, not HSPA. It would be nice to see a map of the coverage by data type instead of those vague speed descriptions.

Whereas I'm fairly certain it's not.
The whole 4G kerfuffle in the UK is wind up. Money making, profiteering, scam - from the scum of UK mobile telephony providers. I've got 9Mb on HSPA+ in Oxford, would I notice a difference between that and 15Mb "4G" ? Doubt it when browsing the web / facebook / emails! Doubt I'd notice it if streaming stuff on my S3, that usually needs a lot less than 9Mb for HD content.
If it were true 4G speeds and they had a decent data allowance (500Mb per month? B!tch, please! *troll face* ) , I'd happily switch. That's if they had 4G service in Oxford. Which they don't. and I very rarely visit any of the places where their "4G" is available.

Yeah, I'm on their All You Can Eat data plan, but I won't be upgrading to DC-HSDPA speeds advertised as LTE. From what I've seen, LTE is over 21Mbps, and DC-HSDPA is up to 21Mbps. A friend is Leeds gets around 30Mbps.
I use my phone for tethering, since it's included in my plan and faster than my home broadband, so I welcome any free speed increase.
Kind of mirrors my thinking, why pay extra for LTE when they are throttling 3g as it is.

I have seen some screens of people getting over 50Mbps on EE's network, but the average people see is around 15-20Mbps I think, slowest I have seen (and yes this is LTE) is 4Mbps... best 3g speed I have got in the center of York is 10Mbps.

Vodafone is upgrading their 3G which will proabably get speeds close to 4G in their worst speed areas but then again 3G is pretty crap for lots of people , its all overrated crap to be honest , they got scientists at universities developing 5G already with massive governments grants
Sorry didn't make my sarcasm obvious enough, yes a lot of the performance gain is actually due to unthrottling 3g. But consumer law in the UK makes it unlikely that EE are selling simple 3g as 4g (at the minimum its false advertising). It annoys me that if 3g was pushed to its potential we wouldn't be so desperate for 4g.

no they didn't
they are using their existing 1800mhz spectrum for LTE by refarming the current GSM spectrum
when the auction takes places for 4G spectrum, they will stop using 1800mhz and change to the new spectrum

They have to keep using the 1800Mhz frequency after the auction part of their agreement was that they will get less of the 4g spectrum because they have a 4g network now.
Also any frequency can be used for 4g, the 800Mhz and 2100 (I think its that one we will be using) were used for analogue TV and older radar which can be reused because they have now been cleared up. The only reason they give specific uses for frequencies is to avoid signals interfering with each other. Imagine if phone signals used the same frequency as military radar, we would be blind to attacks, but those frequencies can be used for cellular communications with a little tweaking.

Inside upgrading the network to lte

So got some good news.. LTE should be practically everywhere in Denver and around by late spring.. I'm working on the AT&T cell sites upgrading to LTE in Wyoming.. next on the list is sprint sites in Denver.. pic related site I'm working on now . Gonna post more pics and keep this alive by posting if you interested. Just did some Pim testing on dim connectors fun fun fun.. usually testing takes a week or 2 the first part is the upgrade , the second part is tower, very tedious and time consuming. Here's some pics on a site I tested today.
Update!
Out in wheatland Wyoming wind speed avg 50 plus mph.. that statistic definitely came into play yesterday...

Wow would of thought that ATT would of been moving the RRUs up to the antennas like other started doing and sprint is doing across the board on their overhaul... Helps signal as it reduces the loss over the coax run from the base of the tower at the RRUs to the antennas... Theme is to run fiber from cabinet to RRUs up near the antenna so the coax run is reduced from the rru to antenna....
Though ATT and VZ were ahead of the game in the end LTE wise so I guess that upgrade missing is understandable....
You have the smart job then if just dealing in the cabinets! F all the climbing. Lol

Lol so true and there's a group of French Canadians tower crew that get paid pennies and do that crazy stuff.. The at&t hubs do use the rrus but as for the towers I've worked on, I haven't seen any going up.

Any updates on sprint LTE in Denver.

What he said. We've got one lit up in Brighton, but do you have any info on where we should be wasting hours on end stalking the LTE next?

4G? Where art thou?

So I live in the Baltimore area which has full 4G/LTE coverage. I RARELY have 4G on this thing. Anyone having that issue as well?
Seems to connect fine for me when not on WiFi. I would be contacting Sprint if you are sure the LTE in that area is strong enough. Make them do the work to figure it out. Have you updated your PRL? If not you should do that and see if it helps.
From Sprint: "On some 4G LTE chipsets such as Qualcomm, the PRL determines if LTE is enabled for the geographic region you are in."

Just update profile and PRL. No luck. Do I need to reboot?

So I did all that, switched from LTE/CDMA to CDMA and back to LTE/CDMA. Sprint updated their end and everything. Still no 4G. They said it's a hardware issue, but I do have 4G off and on while driving so I don't understand what the issue is.

That is a pain. If it was me I would be taking the phone back until they get it working. For what we pay for the device and plan the pressure should be on them to get it fixed. Good luck.

Yeah the live chat people are morons anyway. Might just go to the store and tell them to fix it.
I have the same issue in my area. I checked on sprint.com/coverage and it claims there is 4G coverage in my area. I hardly see the 4G icon on my phone and its painfully slow when on "3G".
I read somewhere that sprint is updating their towers for better coverage and start LTE coverage in more areas (mine included). I read on some unofficial site that they are only 23% done updating and are expected to complete the project (in my area) by the end of this year.

You probably zoomed out too far. I copied and pasted the east and west together so you can see where Sprint LTE is in 1 image.

I understand that. Just would have figured newer tech means better coverage. I guess not.
I was just in Baltimore all week for business and I got 4G the entire week! I was staying right near Camden Yards at a Holiday Inn Inner Harbour.

No, they just are not finished implementing lte. Think of sprint.com/coverage as planned coverage not actual completed sites. Most areas are 30%-40% complete from what I have been reading.
http://s4gru.com has a pretty in depth and accurate tracking system

Actually, I had done something with my MSL changing my proxy settings & when it rebooted, I looked at my network preferences & noticed it was CDMA only. I had to enable LTE before I actually started seeing LTE again in areas when I KNEW I should've had it around Dallas. Thing was, it was several days before I noticed it was CDMA only!

I'm thinking of dropping AT&T for T-mobile how is LTE coverage in L.I./NYC?

I'm thinking of dropping att for t-mobile. Any one in long island/NYC think this is a good choice? How is your LTE coverage and overall experience in New York?

I did and according to them everything is excellent of course. I'm looking for some real world experience and advice from anyone who has switched. I may try it for a month and see. I just have 10 days or so before I can terminate my contract or else I'm stuck for 2 years.

From what I hear (and have witnessed) T-Mobile is very good in many cases better than AT&T/Verizon in major cities due to site density (spacing between towers). However, outside major cities and a lot of highways between them is only 2G (Edge) or no connection at all. If you're going postpaid - AT&T does have some roaming agreements with T-Mobile that the online maps will show coverage for.
I'm with T-Mobile in Palm Beach Florida and were moving to Manhattan in two weeks, I've been enjoying 30mps LTE here no matter where I travel in the 3 counties around. I would imagine NYC and its boroughs being the epicenter of all phone releases as well as a testing and proving ground for all tech would be the best place to get premier coverage, anyway I hope that's the case. I'm only concerned about the city myself and I've been told that not only should I get the same results but they are upgrading their LTE in several cities, NY being one of them and the speeds will be bumped up to over 60mps down and over 15mps up.
I was previously with Sprint and I couldn't even get a data connection with them half the time, luckily I had great speeds in my house but just a mile away nada and that was the case all over, talking here in Palm Beach now.
One thing T-mobile told me was to keep data roaming on, this had nothing to do with spotty coverage, they were trouble shooting my daughter's iPhone 5 with me that they ended up replacing but she said there are no roaming fees and to keep roaming on for data and voice. Also no throttling on your unlimited data on the higher plan, its 10 dollars more. I get like 4.5 gigs for tethering with it but I do way more than that and I didn't want it throttled, I use a little trick so my tethering appears to be regular data usage to them. Sprint never said anything either about my astronomical data usage, I wouldn't know about the others. I probably use close to 2 hundred gigs a month tethering not counting not tethered.
This screenshot is one day of tethering usage.

Damn. What are you doing with all that data? Downloading the Pentagon database? Lol
I wonder if they would let me test drive with a SIM for a week. I am mostly in long island but travel to the city often. I have 1 friend who had t-mobile but he didn't even know how to open his browser so.....he just said it worked ok so Idk. Everyone here is on att or Verizon so that might be a clue.

There are no contracts with Tmo so you can easily try it out. You would need an AWS compatible phone to try their network. What is the return period in NY for phones? CA has a 30 day return period, you should be able to test it at least a week and return the phone if it doesn't work.
I have a friend in Manhattan who has not tried T-Mobile even though I've tried to get him to. He ditched AT&T for Verizon and found it to be just as bad as AT&T in the city. Too many people he says, so LTE speeds can be pretty bad. He's going back to AT&T because they are cheaper and at least when there's no LTE he can fall back on HSPA vs EVDO.
When I was in NYC in May, I had my Nexus 4 with me and I don't remember having any issues at all. At JFK I know my BF's AT&T iPhone had unusable data, so I turned my hotspot on for him to use. I don't remember how much LTE I saw, but back in May, NYC was not an official LTE market.
You will probably find that T-Mobile also has issues, they all have a limited amount of spectrum, but at least with T-Mobile you won't be paying as much, and when you have good data you can use as much as you want.
Between San Diego and LA, I get some odd Edge only spots but most of the time I have at least HSPA+ which is usually very good, and LTE is being turned on everywhere and I can usually get 30 mbps down and 10 mbps up. Works great for me, and I use between 10-15 GB per month with no tethering.
Spent a week in LIC, traveled to Brooklyn, West Side, SoHo (LTE was in and out here), Manhattan all with no problems, had full LTE everywhere... no dropped calls or anything. Dull note, my Nexus 4 had modded radios for LTE.
I'm in port Jeff/Setauket, I gotta go like past hauppague to get LTE

I've talked to a couple of people out here and they weren't too happy with the coverage and they ended up switching back to v and att. I think I will take your advice and try it for a week and see. I have till the 12th to figure it out.
