Whereas I'm fairly certain it's not.

The whole 4G kerfuffle in the UK is wind up. Money making, profiteering, scam - from the scum of UK mobile telephony providers. I've got 9Mb on HSPA+ in Oxford, would I notice a difference between that and 15Mb "4G" ? Doubt it when browsing the web / facebook / emails! Doubt I'd notice it if streaming stuff on my S3, that usually needs a lot less than 9Mb for HD content.
If it were true 4G speeds and they had a decent data allowance (500Mb per month? B!tch, please! *troll face* ) , I'd happily switch. That's if they had 4G service in Oxford. Which they don't. and I very rarely visit any of the places where their "4G" is available.

Yeah, I'm on their All You Can Eat data plan, but I won't be upgrading to DC-HSDPA speeds advertised as LTE. From what I've seen, LTE is over 21Mbps, and DC-HSDPA is up to 21Mbps. A friend is Leeds gets around 30Mbps.
I use my phone for tethering, since it's included in my plan and faster than my home broadband, so I welcome any free speed increase.

Kind of mirrors my thinking, why pay extra for LTE when they are throttling 3g as it is.

If I'm not wrong, even HSPA+ is (maximum) 21Mbps.
Here in Brazil, some people tested 4G, (in a launch event, 4G only to people present at the event) with Motorola RAZR HD. It reached 57Mbps.

I have seen some screens of people getting over 50Mbps on EE's network, but the average people see is around 15-20Mbps I think, slowest I have seen (and yes this is LTE) is 4Mbps... best 3g speed I have got in the center of York is 10Mbps.

you britains arent the only ones who are fooled
Here in germany according to o2, 21mbit is lte, ***** please, and some months ago they made promotion for transformer 300TFL or somethin like that with 47mbit downspeed on lte. These jerks, they all want to fool us.

You all are wrong. DC-HSPA it's the new generation 3G (Dual Channel - DL up 42Mbps!!!) There is no need to sign up for it, everybody who are on Three can use it but the only problem is DC enabled phones (all new models with LTE or Nexus 4)
EE is scum , they using 1800mHz and that's not proper 4G, it's tweaked 3G (DC-HSPA) but phones showing "4G" Fraud !!!

Vodafone is upgrading their 3G which will proabably get speeds close to 4G in their worst speed areas but then again 3G is pretty crap for lots of people , its all overrated crap to be honest , they got scientists at universities developing 5G already with massive governments grants

Sorry didn't make my sarcasm obvious enough, yes a lot of the performance gain is actually due to unthrottling 3g. But consumer law in the UK makes it unlikely that EE are selling simple 3g as 4g (at the minimum its false advertising). It annoys me that if 3g was pushed to its potential we wouldn't be so desperate for 4g.

no they didn't
they are using their existing 1800mhz spectrum for LTE by refarming the current GSM spectrum
when the auction takes places for 4G spectrum, they will stop using 1800mhz and change to the new spectrum

They have to keep using the 1800Mhz frequency after the auction part of their agreement was that they will get less of the 4g spectrum because they have a 4g network now.
Also any frequency can be used for 4g, the 800Mhz and 2100 (I think its that one we will be using) were used for analogue TV and older radar which can be reused because they have now been cleared up. The only reason they give specific uses for frequencies is to avoid signals interfering with each other. Imagine if phone signals used the same frequency as military radar, we would be blind to attacks, but those frequencies can be used for cellular communications with a little tweaking.

Danish Three
In Denmark Three`s 3G network is 42mbps and the new 4G ive tested with my 4G router and got 60-70mbps

My hope is that uptake of overpriced underspecced 4g will be underwhelming forcing networks to actually offer a service worth paying for, but seen as they've gotten away with pushing crappy 3g for so long maybe I'm flogging a dead horse?

Tmobile's HSPA+ Network

For those of you who are confused about Tmo's HSPA+ network and making comments on it's durability, here is a link that is on Tmo's website. I figured I'd make it easy for those of you that can't seem to do research.
http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/hspa-mobile-broadband#
p.s. I have been in a couple of cities that carry HSPA+ right now and it's download speed from the interstate is around 4mbs. Remember peeps,IT'S NOT 4G. IT'S 4G LIKE. Quoted from Tmobile.
I am in an area that does not have HSPA+ and I pull down 4mb to 5mb all day long.

I believe you. KC is pulling that however there are still parts of KC that pulls 3g and edge. I have done the speed tests on that area (3x each). I believe that areas that are mentioned to have HSPA+ are probably still being boosted seeing how the network is still kinda new. I have noticed some members posting their speed results in places like Texas and the results are phenomenal.

Yep. I can attest to that. At work, the HSPA+ speed is beautiful. I can browse endlessly while tethering.
Although for some reason at home it says I have HSPA+ yet I lose data constantly, and it goes from HSPA+ to Edge, totally skipping 3G. Either way, I have no complaints since I can just use WiFi. It has worked well everywhere else since I got the phone.

[Q] LTE Capability

My brother-in-law works at AT&T, and tells me that when they start rolling out LTE later this year, the Atrix 4G has the required radios to access it.
Can anyone confirm this, and will this be LTE on par with what Verizon currently offers with the Thunderbolt?
I may know nothing about phones, but this phone was advertised as 4G( which it doesn't have yet). It was not advertised as LTE, i doubt AT&T would lose the money of selling a new phone by just upgrading the old one
The Atrix doesn't have an LTE radio. The Droid Bionic which is basically an Atrix but on Verizon will have the LTE radio.
Our Atrix was meant to operate on certain frequencies, unless we can use frequencies that weren't published or they're planning to push their LTE on one of these frequencies I don't see it happening :-/ sorry don't mean to burst any bubbles but its something that I hoped for as well or maybe an option that the xoom had that we can send it back to have to upgrade to an LTE antenna again I don't see it happening
thats just my 2 cents

Uhhhm 4G and LTE are the same. The LTE stands for long term evolution which basically covers how they will be improving the 4G making it faster better. So yes your phone is 4G LTE ready. Because it's one and the same.

There two kinds of 4G as the carriers describe it (HSPA+ and LTE).
The radio in the Atrix only supports HSPA+.
Funny thing is, HSPA + and LTE are not true 4G.
Neither meet the defined standard.
IP based and 100 Mbps minimum download speed is true 4G according to the ITU.

True if you want to get technical wimax is the only true 4G. But the ramped up hspa+ which is basically the 3g uncapped and the lte are compatible. It's part of the design lte. Both verizon and att have designed their lte to be reverse compatible so for now we only get super 3g which will get the same speeds as wimax but as lte rolls out our phones will be compatible that's why their all being marketed as 4G LTE phones and not one or the other. The LTE system is reverse compatible with all 4G ready phones so no not exactly the same but close enough that it can still be called an apple no matter what color the skin is

edit:for the record, I don't like verizon's either.
Come on. You mean to tell me that the Verizon "Data Card" bownloading at 50Mbps beats a phone downloading at 40Mbps. Look at the upload. Nowhere even close. NYC has DAS units all over. I'm not on NYC and you can't argue the upload. I can find a spot to show 50 if you want but I just did a random test and got these results. Just thought I'd share. Again. This is on a phone. Not a dedicated data card.

Regardless of which is better or not, I'm glad at&t is finally rolling out LTE.
I don't expect you to be able to answer these questions, but is the device you're using coming out before the end of the year and do you know if at&t plans to offer unlimited LTE data for a short period like verizon did?
Question - why does anyone give a crap? What good is that 40 Mbps doing you. Nothing on the phone will ever make use of that. Even if you are tethering to a computer it isn't nearly as useful as those speeds would be on a home broadband connection due to the data caps. At 40 Mbps you would go through a full month's 4 GB tethering package data allotment in about 13 minutes! What a joke.
considering this is on a fairly loaded network that is running in well over 5 cities I'd say its pretty good :-D
Question - HOW DID YOU GET AN LTE PHONE ON AT&T?
Also, nice speeds, obviously Verizon's LTE is going to get much better speeds when they've had time to get enough backhaul to all the LTE towers, just give AT&T some time, just like the time Verizon has had.
wow
amazing speeds you get there, I don't even get close
Great question. We all would like to know that one

I can't tell you how I got the phone but rest assured they are coming. Once the backhaul gets updated across the board everyone will see better speeds even with the 4G (HSPA+) devices. I'm not 100% sure how the data plans are going to work but I'm sure they will be capped higher than 2Gb. They will have to be capped somewhere or else everyone will use bandwidth all the time taking it away from other users.
That's all I know for now.

But just tell me, are we going to see LTE phones anytime soon, and if AT&T wants to speed up HSPA+ devices, they need to turn on 64QAM.
^relay that one to them for me.
VERY impressive but like verizon and sprint 4g once there's a lot of people on it the speeds drop.
But thing is all I see is a much faster way to get to the 2gb cap.
Verizon 4g is 2gb right?

Lowest for Verizon is 2GB.
But the guy said they would raise the caps... I have unlimited data, so I hope I get that on LTE also...
Need I say more Mr Verizon sees 50 Mbps?

I'm not saying that you will see a drop in speeds once everyone jumps on the bandwagon but what would you ever need speeds like that for anyway? Streaming movies? Hah. Maybe if your downloading one and don't want to wait or don't have wifi at home. Anyway, there are just a lot of new and exciting things happening with the AT&T network and the difference will or should already be seen by most of you now or in the near future.
Not only the network but the devices are getting better and better IMO (really unbiassed) I think AT&T has the better devices hands down.
For all those who asked. I can not say how I have an LTE device but they are sure to impress everyone once released.
Till next time.

SGH-i727 Galaxy Nexus II LTE? Wish the At&t/Tmo merger goes through and we get the Galaxy Nexus LTE version. I have two upgrades and want something new for Christmas. LOL.

Unreal Three UK 3G speeds!! WTF!

I received my note 2 LTE N7105 from t-mobile this morning. After leaving to charge and investigating how to unlock the phone (thanks t-mobile for locking it!!) I manged to unlock it with a great app on play store (UnlockUnit) and the N7105 inst even supported yet lol
T-mobiles 3g speeds are terrible where I am in London, average 2-3megs, I didn't care anyway cause the plan was to give their sim to my lil boy, while I pop my 3uk sim in there, happy whit their speeds for a long time, but now check this out!!! I cant reproduce theses speeds with the mrs S3, its still around 9megs on her s3 but when I pop sim into the note 2 its just wow!!

This was the highest speed, average for about 10 tests were around 15-16megs! 3 seems to have upgraded their network! Anyone else with 3uk experiencing this? My network type is reporting HSPAP:15, who needs to sigh up to 4G when you got this crazinessnessness!
That's pretty nuts! How does it feel streaming content off something like youtube with those speeds?
Effortless! No buffering at all. Netflix is like a dream. I don't want to touch the handset in case speed diminishes!
I'm searching google for info on this but am finding nothing. The 3g only note 2 N7100 that i sent back wasn't giving me these speeds
Its slowed down very recently, maybe due to terrible ping? Then sped up again in the 2nd pic, orgasmic!
Cant believe I'm calling 14meg 3g connection slow. I'll accept that. Please, my fellow 3uk users, please share your speeds

I'm getting about 3mb/s H+ here but then again I've never gotten good signal at home.
However my mate on 3 UK has similar 3G speeds on his iPhone 5. I guess mine should be about the same but last time I tried it next to him he wasn't getting great speeds either, seems a bit hit and miss depending on where you are.
Best I've had at home was about 5mb/s
Changing from giffgaff to 3uk soon as there droping there unlimited.
Lets see what ill get on the normal n7100

I'm on N7100 and use 3's One Plan.
I get 12mbps consistently on HSPA+ in central london.
OP - Are you also on HSPA+? I noticed yours says 3G+, Is that just HSPA+? Cos 3 don't roll out LTE until next year.
I guess the modem on the N7105 gives HSPA+ an extra kick.

Which modem version do you have installed? I'm on LJ1 (don't even know if there are any other modems tbh) and I didn't get anywhere near this in/near central london (Angle Islington counts, right? )

My baseband says LJ1, which I'm pretty sure is the modem.
I'm located at Westminster. So what speeds do you get then? If it's not hugely off, I would just blame the traffic nearby.

I'm in south west London, I did get a text from 3 notifying me of works being carried out in my area about a month ago tho. Wonder what they did or is this, like someone said, thanks to the lte radio even though 3 haven't released lte yet?

Superb to see others with these crazy speeds. These 18mb speeds I'm getting are from inside my house. I wonder how fast it'll be outside. I'll report
I was seeing a trend of only the n7105 getting the 4g like speeds but its good to see n7100 reaching the speeds too. Wasted my time returning my n7100 for a n7105
I can confirm DC-HSPA+ in action on Three UK
I am getting in the excess of 10mbps+ in the same location in my house whereas before I used to get less than half the speed...

Sprint Spark on your S5 - ALL SPARK discussions here only

Whose got it and how fast is it?? Also does anyone know where I can find a coverage map for it??

The regular coverage map for data shows Spark coverage in addition to standard 3g/4g. Don't have it in my market yet but according to Sprint is supposed to reach peak speeds of 50-60mbps.
My stuff slow.....whats funny is they allegedly always workin on the towers or fixing something and always got the fukin nerve to be coming out with some allegedly newer or better/faster but never seems to fix what they already got running..... I swear if it wasn't for this employee discount that I receive which pretty much take $20 off my bill I would be so done with Sprint for this average service I get

I dont go by sprint maps on their site. Go to s4gru.com become a member and donate about $10~$20 bucks to become a sponsor member which will let you see map coverage and every sprint tower in this country, can see which one is active with 3g only or 4g only or a towers with both 3g/4g active that site has alot of great info about sprints coverage and more.
Im in miami where band 41 in most tower is active but i cant recall if miami was already launched with spark but here's some tests.

According to Sprint....
"These tri-band devices support active hand-off mode between 800MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz providing data session continuity as the devices move between spectrum bands."
"these devices are expected to give users the best experience by shifting from one band to another, depending on what speed is needed for the application in use at a given moment."
Supposedly band 3 is for international. Enabling it does nothing.
I disabled band 3 and the other 3 options enabled. It doesnt let me choose the order. Looking at the sprint map it shows spark in dfw.

I live in the Portland Oregon metro area and on 2 occasions when my GF has called me (from her S4 to my S5), the call was in HD voice. From what I understand, this can only happen in a spark situation. So I am betting they are getting ready to fire up the towers here in PDX ahead of schedule.

Tri-band phones can only connect to LTE or CMDA(3G/1x) one at a time. To off set this towers and now being equipped Circuit Switched Fallback or Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback. You are probably in an are where the Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) and Enhanced Circuit Switched Fallback (eCSFB) are not equipped on the towers. Sprint hasn't deployed this to most of its network yet. Areas that don’t have it already have no expected time frame for the roll out of this network technology, and since your smartphone is designed to prefer the ability to make and receive phone calls at all costs, it is programmed to stay on CDMA.

This is the best info that I've seen anout this situation. I can get LTE if I update PRL or toggle airplane mode. Calling Sprint does nothing BC most have no clue what this is and everything they see is working as should. Very very frustrating to hear "oh your device is the issue, go return it for a new one". I can also go into LTE only mode and it stay connected until I change it.
