[Q] CM 11 - Performance tab question/help - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda.
I installed Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 today with no problems at all, however I've found something that seems a bit weird. (I know there is supposed to be bugs in nightlies, of course, but I thought i'd ask anyway.)
In the performance settings of the tab, it keeps the minimum CPU frequency to 1190mhz. If I put it to 300mhz, it will work, but as soon as I exit out of the performance tab, it goes back to 1190mhz. I figured that my phone was quite hot when I didn't use it, and that's how I found out.
Have anyone seen this on the latest CM11 nightly for the Note 3? I hope somebody out there know how I can fix it.
Many thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I've heard a little about kernels. The thing is, that this is the first time I've ever put a custom rom on an android device, so I'm not really 100% familiar with all this yet, however if the custom kernel won't be able to brick my phone, I sure would give that a try.
Should I go with the "stable" version or the beta version of the kernel?

Thank you a lot
I'm taking the beta version then!
- So... I just tried to flash it with Odin, but as it is a .zip file and not .tar, I can't do that.
I do have TWRP on my device, so I can use that, I am not very sure on how to do that though?
I'm sorry for the noobish questions. First time I installed a custom rom

That's amazing! I'll see if I will do that soon.
I installed the kernel and everything looks fine, however the performance tab is still acting weird. I think I will install a CPU app.
So this is it? There is no new settings I need to check or anything?

FAQ
For those questions that pops up all the time, this will be updated often.
Also, remember to thank those who provides the answers!
Q: How does OpenDelta auto updater work?
AA1973 said:
At first, OpenDelta will check if a Rom Zip is available on your device. If OpenDelta doesn't find it, it will download a Rom. (~170mb) From then, it will only download the difference (delta) and patches the initial Rom zip within internal SD /OpenDelta. Then, after the patch, the Rom zip will be around 280mb, as it is uncompressed.

Q: Why does OpenDelta freeze from time to time when trying to update the ROM?
@Chainfire is still working on it:
Chainfire said:
FYI, people still suffering from the OTA updater freezing mid-verify, mid-download or mid-patch, we've found a lot of way how it didn't get fixed Putting the sdcard handling code in debug mode gets rid of the problem, but obviously we don't want to do that in production, eh!

Go back to Stock ROM or search play store for whatever your needs are. You'll probably find something that's better than Samsung apps anyway. If you're still wondering - OmniRom will not and can never support Samsung stock apps.

Soft keys aka navigation bar
Edit build.prop (use preferred ROM Toolbox lite/pro or a suitable root file explorer)
Add the following line at the end:
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
You'll get navigation bar / soft keys and the desired layout of lockscreen.

HOW TO INSTALL
XpLoDWilD said:
First time installing OmniROM to your Galaxy Note, or coming from another ROM:
- Read known issues and FAQs
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery - WITH SELINUX SUPPORT!
- Copy GApps and OmniROM ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash OmniROM zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
Upgrading from earlier version of OmniROM:
- Copy the OmniROM ZIP to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash the OmniROM zip from SDCard
- Reboot

General probs I have with Rom
_
I would love to use this rom as my daily driver but due to some issues I have reverted to my previous setup slimsabre.
Phone gets very hot whilst charging - but charges at acceptable rate. I have replaced battery but still same.
Sometimes phone gets very hot even when not in use - I could not find any reason even looking at better batt stats and cpu spy - tried reinstalling rom and gapps only and this still happened - Phone would just become very hot to hold at some random time.
Any help on this appreciated as I do not know what is causing this.

If you got the new battery cheap off eBay or similar it's a good chance that it's fake. I've had a couple of those, heating up to the point where you're afraid of damages.
Sent from my phone using some app
When I first installed Omni my phone stayed hot for ages. It turned out that Google+, which normally I do not use and have frozen on previous ROMs, was going absolutely nuts doing some sort of background sync and downloading truckloads of data. The app was running in the background for over an hour with the CPU cores pretty much maxed out. Maybe your problem is the same. Maybe not. Eventually G+ finished its evil work and the phone performance and temperature returned to normal.
I ran with the ROM for a few days and it seemed stable, but I've actually reverted to Samsung's latest stock ROM as KitKat really wasn't doing it for me. Basically I saw no tangible benefits but did lose some convenient features and interface changes were definitely a backward step with Omni. Maybe when it's matured and ART is working fully I'll take another run at it.

Omni kernel(with SD access) was only available after flashing ROM since 12th Dec nightly, so it depends what rom you're on right now. Or perhaps you flashed Raw Kernel over it?
I would advise you to do a clean install. There's no other kernel available right now for 4.4 But it should work.

i solved it by flashing the Google keyboard from the pa gapps thread.
rebooting the device after clearing the aosp keyboard data didn't work.
the Google keyboard has no difference over the aosp one but has a working gesture typing.
you could do that too
-download Google keyboard zip
-reboot to recovery
-flash the zip
-clear cache and dalvik cache
-reboot
-select Google keyboard from settings->language and input
done
hope it helps

Guys, a little confused here,
is openDelta already integrated into the 12/15 Nightly?
if so, then why is it trying to download the whole ROM?
I think the first time we use it, it Downloads the entire ROM and then the next time it checks hashes and then only downloads updated files...
please clarify, as I thought It only downlods changed files and checks hash for that.
thought downloading fails midway, tried almost 7-8 times now,
I already increased the screen time on to 30 minues, what else can I do to get it downloaded completely
Unhappy slow charging and poor battery life.. over heating while using mobile interne
First of all many thanks for developing such a good rom. everything is upto the mark the only critical issue i am facing is very very slow charging, and along with very poor battery life i am using build of 12-12-2013. i charge my phone to 100% (it takes almost 6hrs) and it drains within 1hr (normal usage). Also i tried with two other new batteries as well same issue.
And there is one more issue whenever we change the music (forward/play-pause) using headset screen automatically turns on. Screen also turns on automatically sometimes without going on anything.
Phone over heats while running multiple application or using internet
Screen brightness is way to high on automatic setting mode even though i adjusted it with the flux response settings, in the settings of phone.
Guys please help me out i don't know much abt anroid programming and bug fixing please.
gps fix
I had a problem when I wanted to use google map for navigation, I never managed to get a gps fix. (The real problem isn't the first fix but after, it never moove on map)
Does that work for you?

@techMagnificent
At first, OpenDelta will check if a Rom Zip is available on your device. If OpenDelta doesn't find it, it will download a Rom. (~170mb)
From then, it will only download the difference (delta) and patches the initial Rom zip within internal SD /OpenDelta.
Then, after the patch, the Rom zip will be around 280mb, as it is uncompressed.
For battery drain. Install better battery stats as system app (settings > advanced) which you can find on xda. Check which app and service is driving your phone nuts.

[SOLVED] "Unable to connect to camera" or crash after CM installer from 4.4.2 stock

[SOLVED] "Unable to connect to camera" or crash after CM installer from 4.4.2 stock
Hello!
After installing CM on my uncle's S4 international LTE through CM installer, all camera apps crashes, saying sometime "Unable to connect to camera". How can I fix this? Actually the phone is with her, and I cannot see it for a while. I tried to restart and or clear cache data, but it didn't worked. Any other known fix? Getting back to stock would just be a shame!
SUMMARY: I've tried CM Installer, CM11M3 and CM11M9, and in none of them Google Camera works, even with the this app that elzangi adviced me. BUT i've tried this app and it does not works :|
SOLUTION: Reflash stock, reflash all the things. F**k you Samsung

Well Bootloader Locking and Unlocking will not work we know as its not just possible via script. Also Vibration thing has to be done via Kernel Level as if Kernel support then only App can do as its Global App so few things we will miss. I ll post my settings soon.

Never tried with stock
Anyone else got a problem where the voltages would jump to 1150mV for every frequency If they use this app? Running Dstrikers 4.7 with trinitykernel 3.0. (Stock based Rom) Everything else works fine though
Tried wiping the apps data and deleting the folder which fixes it for a bit but then it must happens again.

Hyperdrive Rom for P-900...Works On Our T-900!

I flashed this yesterday, all seems fine so far. There is a known issue with system.ui force close, and is being investigated by dev. It happened to me a couple times after install, and hasn't happened again since. Seems very stable now that the rom has settled. The touch sensitivity in the aroma installer is a little stubborn, so be patient when selecting your options. Oh yeah, I have never seen so many options crammed in a rom in my life! Very entertaining. I love it! And as with all P-900 roms on our T-900, no rotation. (No big deal) here is the link to the op.

Edit: systemUI force close issue has been fixed.
Edit: aroma installer is fixed also. Silky smooth!

Oh, you just install it like your tab pro 12.2 T-900 was a note pro p-900, and thats it! You will lose screen rotation, but I never miss it. Just disable auto rotation after installation. There are play store apps that control rotation manually, on a per-app basis that work perfectly.
I choose the stock kernel, in the aroma installer, but if you like to over clock your devices I suggest bonuzzz kernel. I've used it and it is very stable with more governor options, and OC to 2.1Ghz(i think) I have never OC'ed this device tho. This rom has the best balance of performance and battery life, and has endless customization options. I really don't know why it hasn't caught on with T-900 users. I love it.

No... I did try flashing the boot.img from our latest stock release, (with flashify) but still no rotation. It seems to get better battery life with our stock kernel, but it may be in my head. (Placebo effect) I disable anything to do with s-pen in settings, just in case, but I'm not sure its necessary. It really does run beautifully. Great battery life, and no lag like on stock rom.

Yip! I know it sounds crazy! This is the first device I've ever heard of this working on. The only things that do not work are rotation, and vibrate. I flashed the Tab pro 12.2 kernel, trying to see if it would fix rotation, but it didn't. Vibrate works with our kernel tho.

no, well, I think there is a way to do it with odin, but, the easiest way is to install flashify to your device, open it and confirm root access when super user asks for it, then you can use flashify to install the boot.img right from your device. .... Now I can not provide support if the device explodes or any of those other things that could happen, but I personally have not had any problems with flashify. After it gets done it asks if you want to reboot, and just say yes and then you should be on our stock kernel. It worked for me 2 times, because I wanted to try the new CM12 that had theme support, Then themes didn't work on CM12 anyway, so I came back to hyperdrive, and flashed the stock kernel again. Oh and it reboots faster with the stock kernel too.
that screen rotation. .
Being broken is a deal breaker for me personally. Such a shame because that ROM looks fabulous

Rom + Kernel

Hello, I'm a new user this device, my previous smartphone was S8 (Exynos) but i swapped on OP5 8/128 gb
Now i have a question, which rom + kernel make better performance combo ?
I am running PureFusion with Lightning Kernel V15 and my phone performs like a beast

+1 for Pure Fusion, I get up to 10 and a half hours screen on time with better performance than I get on OOS, noticeable by eye.
Ultimately, you may find a better combination out there, but the baseline for me is Fusion, it just works as it should, stamina and power.

Go for the beta-build. Really stable and awesome battery-life. That doesn´t include the latest version of Lightning kernel but you can flash that easy in your recovery.

Super smooth, absolutely as fast as Oxygen OS. I always use "GApps" and here U should choose "ARM64" and "7.1". I recommend you to use either "Nano" or "Pico", but you could choose whatever you want!
1. Flash the ROM in TWRP
2. Flash GApps
3. Flash Magisk/Super SU (If U want to be rooted)
4. Flash "no_verity_op5.zip" (If your phone are dectrypted, otherwise skip this one)
GApps: http://opengapps.org/
Magisk (Will not break SafetyNet): https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4302781&d=1508010356

Yea mate it's always the latest version of the Rom, I always clean flash too.
I've tried all the Rom's on XDA for the Oneplus, No limits for me is the best OOS Rom (personal choice) but overall and for the things I need from it, plus Displaylink technology works indefinitely on it, on OOS Rom's it cuts out after around 9 minutes which is a deal breaker for me.
10 hours SOT is superb.

Basicly:
Encrypted = Makes it more difficult for people who are not authorized to access information stored on the phone. You are thus safer when the phone are encrypted.
Decrypted = Opposite to Encrypted. The benefit with this one compared to Encrypted is a better performance.
You can check what U use by going to the settings menu, then head over to "Security & fingerprint", scroll down to the bottom and done.
PS: I am Decrypted!

before anyone drops any more advice here to this user, please be aware that narrating the entire learning process for flashing makes you partially responsible for what happens to this users phone.
@dzesiu2002 i strongly advise you to do research on all of these topics before going any further. you could end up wasting a lot of your time or worse: breaking your phone.

This. Also, not trying to be rude and it's awesome that everyone is so willing to help, but I don't think spoonfeeding is the best option. OP has tons of questions (many that are simple and can easily be answered with self-research).
As the user I quoted mentioned, you should visit other threads that have instructions and information on flashing, encrypt vs. decrypt and so on!

Man, i have much phones all of them always have custom rom and kernel, so i never brick the device... All rom, kernel have in own thread installation process and i going with it, newbie for sure will brick the device, if i flashed much devices without a break them, then really you still think im newbie ? Cmon in my thread in #1 post, i dont write " its my first time with flashing the device, am noob or something like that " Newbies having 100% understandable tutorial about unlocking BL, install TWRP or Root the device, but they still ask for help, did you see anywhere in OP5 section about i needed help with that ? First of all, im not stupid and know any flash is risk, but if device bricked then this is not the fault of the author of the topic, only it is the fault of the user who carried out the installation wrongly. This post is for you and means you have to post something like this in threads people who really are green and dont know anything about flashing.

i am NOT calling you stupid. i AM definitely calling you a newbie.
the questions you have been asking are very rudimentary when it comes to flashing ROMs. regardless of your previous experience, it is still best that you do a lot more reading. this obviously isn't what you want to hear, but it is as true as truth can be. if you don't know what encryption is, then you shouldn't be trying to work around it. you should be figuring out what encryption is in the first place.
