like rageguy said, it's very shady. Until it's been tested tested and tested and cuts out some of the "shady" business (read rageguy's post that I quoted above), then I may use it, but using CF-Auto-Root is just as good and doesn't rely on a computer/ other than odin/heimdall. Plus he's very reputable and does backup his work. so if you're looking for a rooting program, I highly suggest use CF-Auto-Root

Hmm.. do you have any REAL proof that this isn't a legitimate program or do you always base your decisions on other people's assumptions?
Btw the WiFi only versions have no IMEI so I don't see what the problem is.. This is a super easy way to root your tablet and it works fine - I just rooted my 5110.. Searched for "other binaries" - couldn't find any.. If you have any facts about kingo I'm more than happy to listen..

I have a Verizon Note 3 and Kingo was pretty much the only means to root it. If you read over at their forum, there are concerns expressed about Kingo and many of those concerns have been addressed by Kingo. For safety's sake, it was suggest that you install superSU over Kingo's superSU. That said, I'd only use Kingo if there was no easy alternative. I did not use Kingo on my Note 8.

I don't have any facts one way or the other, and that's the scary part. The prudent person will be naturally distrustful of things found on the internet. is Kingo open source? Can somebody dig through it to verify that it is not doing anything shady? Otherwise as far as I can tell, I am trusting an unknown closed-source program to have unrestricted access to my device. Call me crazy, but if Kingo wants me to use their software, the onus is on them to prove that they have no malicious intent. Otherwise, I will assume that they are disseminating malware or stealing information.

Welcome to the internet, where default = no trust. You must be vigilant and question everything. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for potential disaster. I'm sorry you don't get it but I believe one day, when you get burned, you will learn the lesson.

LOL and why would I care what you think of me? You're nobody.
We're just writing about our opinions here. I don't care who follows mine or not - I just wrote my experience (which is better than assuming or theorizing or quoting other nobodies I guess).
Probably the easiest way to get malware on your device is to use a rooting tool as the vector. I am sure the tool itself roots your device successfully, and I have no doubt that they are also getting something in return. Use at your own risk, but I would stay far, far away.

Just wnted to give my experience with this root meathod. I tried it on my GT-N5110 and it worked fine. But when I had a soft brick, all my fault, I had issues trying to use the fine toolbox i bought here on XDA for my tablet. I managed to get it backto stock and everything up and running so I could flash custom roms once more but Kingo went kicking and screeming. I did not use that meathod to root my tablet this time. I used Saferoot.

Q: What does activeroot do for my phone?
A: It gives you root access to the phone's file system. Even the Android system files.
Q: What can I do with root?
A: You can run applications that require root access to function. Apps like Titanium Backup, can back up all of your apps and settings and save it in your phone's storage/SD card. You can also freeze (disable) or delete pre-installed apps that came with the phone (AT&T/Samsung bloatware).
Q. Is root dangerous?

Q. Can I install a custom ROM?
A. As of 7/8/13, the answer is no. Not yet. To be able to install a custom ROM, you need to be able to install a custom recovery. Q. Will the GS4A's bootloader EVER be unlocked?
A. No one knows for sure. The Galaxy S4 Active is a niche product available exclusively on AT&T in the USA. It will never reach the sales numbers that the original Galaxy S4 will achieve because of this. Since the original GS4 will be the phone in more users' hands... the same can be said for the hands of developers. A developer who bought the original GS4, is not likely to also buy a GS4A. That being said, the original GS4 is a very popular device and people are working hard on it's bootloader. The GS4 and the GS4A are similar enough that if the GS4 gets unlocked, luck may shine on us and the method may unlock our phones as well. But, as the old saying goes, "I wouldn't hold your breath."

Yes, it was called root de la vega... But, honestly... Don't hold your breath... Root de la vega was working on an earlier rom version of the Note 3... After that... Samsung patched the roms, and there has been nothing ever since...

Such a shame at what Samsung has done. They were so friendly up until the s4. We'll see I'll test drive the note make sure everything is in proper order then root it. Has samsung been known to honor warranty with the flag set if it's obvious manufacture defect?

It depends on the country from what i understand..
Imo if you show them that you know your rights, then you can "make" them honor their warranty...
And always always ask to speak with the manager...
Researching your rights as a consumer on the web (depending on your country) also helps a lot.
Im 90% certain that there's a EU directive that forbids sammy to pull these bull____ on us... Especially if we are asking them to fix a defect that is non-knox related...
In my other Samsung devices, rooting by Chainfire disabled screen mirroring. Can someone who has rooted check that, please?

it depends on the carrier, and how you talk to them about your issue; I have NEVER had a warranty issue for ANY phone, and that was with Sprint, ATT, and now T-Mobile. Can't speak to Verizon, as I hate them with a passion, and wouldn't take a free phone if they offerred one.
every time I returned a phone for a warranty issue, they were always unlocked, rooted, or s-off
here again, if you are nice, and polite, you shouldn't have issues

Actually, there were other methods after root de la vega. I have a method here for the Note 3 that uses towelroot and an older vulnerable kernel. You simply flash the older kernel in odin, use towelroot, then flash the new current kernel back and you're rooted.
Don't think of Knox being tripped as a loss of warranty- think of it as a loss of Knox! Knox is an app on your phone that will no longer work (ever!) if you trip Knox. Research Knox and make sure you have no need for it before you decide to get rid of that functionality. If you work at a company that lets you use your own phone to receive work e-mail etc and would like to keep apps and e-mail on a separate secure container "work side" of your phone (Knox) then don't trip Knox. If you don't care about Knox, trip it and forget it.
It's just not fair to people to leave this valuable piece of information out when telling them to root or in the how-to root threads. They can't revert after the case and some don't realize they need it until they present their phones to their IT staff at work and are told their phone's Knox integrity has been compromised -meaning it's no longer able to be used for that purpose (Knox warranty 0x1). Also, if you just want a secure container for some personal apps and pics etc, you can use that Knox container for that without actually using any work information.
Here's a quick video to demonstrate Knox 2.0s use.

Sure... but the fix is a clean/direct fix.. no app, no nothing. Directly to the real cause. No scars, no leftovers...
Just in case anyone was wondering, towelroot v3 doesn't work. Not sure if earlier builds do as I don't have a copy of the older ones.

That's not a big surprise, since firmware was patched back in June or something and even Note 3 with latest firmware can't be rooted with towelroot, unless you downgrade kernel to older version first. Developer supposed to work for Google now, so don't expect updates either.

Chainfire trips knox and some people may want to keep knox cool for various reasons (like they may need knox for work for example), so it was worth a try, but a very long shot.
Also, did anybody actually tried chainfire method with T-mo ?
Chainfire may have exynos version? I'm not sure and also would that work on locked bootloader, like ATT version is probably getting? I mean we all expect T-mo version to be unlocked, but did anybody actually verified it is, since only insiders may have access to the phone ATM.

Also I just read in the root thread that chainfire works on Tmobile now. But as usual will trip Knox. To some it may not be a big deal but I like to resell my phone and not having Knox tripped will give it a better resell value.

Towel Root won't work on any firmware released since June 3, if I remember correctly. Google hired the guy to find and patch the types of exploits he discovered and used in Towel Root.

Just based off selling price and how long it takes to sell on swappa, Craigslist, or eBay. And some will ask if it's rooted.

That's great. Mines rooted. What about resale value if Knox has been tripped?
I would sell on eBay but I hate the 10% they take from you. So I've never sold my phones there. I like selling on swappa or Craigslist.

oh the phones i have i bought new and i have never sold on any of those sites so i wouldnt know.
I think most ppl who aren't that familiar with root but have heard of it somewhat gets scared of units that are rooted. So they tend to stay away from buying them. And some care to have Knox for work. So your buyer base are much slimmer IMO than with an unrooted and Knox untripped devices.

Rooted my t-mobile note 4 with chainfire.
It's not that the phone is rooted, but you lose Knox functionality. For those that want it or need it, your phone loses value. Look up Knox 2.0 if you're unfamiliar with what it is.

Actually it does work.. I rooted my note 3 about 2 months ago and it did just fine..
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 and i use towelroot to root my phone and it says this phone currently not supported
I towelrooted my S5 (though I had to 'jump through hoops' to do it)
My wife is getting the Note 4 tomorrow which I want to root and debloat for her.
I'm kinda keen not to blow the warranty on the day of purchase......
Is there a way of rooting without tripping knox? I've had a quick look at the sticky's and not seen anything......
Edit......With my S5, which was running a KK firmware (later than June 2014) I had to install towelroot, odin flash a pre June kernel, run towelroot, odin flash the original (post June) Kernel. .....will this method work on the Note 4? (Assuming the device still has out of the box KK)
Edit 2....nvm....just figured it out for myself.....looking at the device specs.....It comes with 4.4.4 which I guess means that 4.4.2 is not available for it. Which in turn means pre June firmware kernels don't exist, so there's nothing available that towelroot will work with.......

Just use CF AUTO ROOT on your PC. TMOBILE does not care from my experience.

Method:
1. Advised: Have a full stock firmware package available (just in case) [sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com]
2. Have Samsung USB drivers installed on Windows PC (Easiest way is DL KIES from Samsung)
3. Flash via Odin [I used Odin3 v3.07 - attachment] as per Chainfire's instructions !
** If unsure how to use Odin, there are many guides found by searching !
4. Wait around 30 secs after flash (stuck on boot screen), and hopefully device will boot.
5. Open SuperSU app and update SU if prompted
Note: You will have installed stock Android system recovery for SM-N910K. This should not affect the operation of the ROM.

I am not sure if it was for the S model.
I remember the Japan model was first to be rooted and there is a youtube video on it.
But unsure about the "S" model.
Didnt see the S in the frost post.

Main use is for root apps and deleting system apps.
You can then manual theme things.
After my samsung s2 i just stuck with stock rooted roms. Removed things i didnt want.

That's what I need, there's a lot of Korean apps on my phone. I have disabled some but they still show up here an there. Another very annoying thing is the dailer, it has Korean text on it which I want to remove as I only want English.
I'd be happy if I could remove some of those apps, and add the yahoo and twitter panels.
Do you think I'd able to flash an international version rom my Edge at some point?

I am unsure on that. The processor is different I believe and that would be a main thing.
But with root you would be able to change most of the apps and you might be able to set up the build.prop to a USA one that should let you add yahoo and get to the USA panel store.

Apart from removing a few "useless" apps, able to use various root type apps (properly) such as Greenify, Titanium, Synapse etc.
But the main reason is to control a custom kernel I intend to build (time permitting). Also remove knox features and set SELinux permissive for Titanium Backup app to work correctly.
In future, I might look at a very basic ROM, but NOT on my to-do list

The processor being different is my main concern, let's hope some people will address this.
The edge is the best piece gadget I have ever owned. I'd be sorted if these issues were sorted.

A basic rom that includes all essential Note functions would be awesome on the edge.

[How to root]
Step:
1. Install "CROM_Service unlock.apk" in your note 5 and open it to unlock your note 5 device. It is a must. And then this apk can be uninstalled.
2. Make sure OEM unlock is also enabled as well.
3. Boot your note 5 into Download Mode & connect to PC
3. Flash "SM-N9200_root.tar" with Odin 3.10.7 in [AP]
4. After boot: Rooted note 5 and SuperSu installed as well!

Everything works perfectly.

What/who is the source of these files? People should know before installing/flashing them. Also, if you aren't the original source, then xda rules require you to give credit to the party who did the work.

And then, I saw the first reply from Willyman who found a link that could help root N9200 device.
As I know Chinese because I come from Hong Kong, and I need to root my N9200 as well.
So I ask him the steps of rooting N9200 device.
After that, I tried it and eventually successful.
Finally, I just share my experience to share the way of rooting N9200 to all of you now.
Believe it or not, I have no need to lie.
Now I think it is wasting my time to open a new thread for the guide of rooting N9200 in here.
So unrespectful ! Why do some people try to doubt for my help?

this reads/appears to be a similar process i used to root my SM-N9208. the CROM apk is actually a Samsung app available from the Samsung store; i believe it's needed to unlock the bootloader. i had to flash a root kernel as well but i believe the one i used was for the 9208. nonetheless, when done, my 9208 was rooted, TWRP installed, and xposed installed and running on the stock odexed ROM. risky, yes... , but it's working so far...

yes, it works for me so I post here in order to help who those in need.
I also installed xposed framework that is unofficial xposed v74 arm64 version.
Everything works perfectly!
I will try later.
Just one question, can I install teamwork recovery before/after the procedure. I would really like to back up before trying to root my lovely phone. Already did back up in SmartSwitch, but afraid something will go wrong if its not official.
Also, I don't jump on this root thing because I'm afraid there won't be any Roms for this version, and I really want to try android 6 when it comes...

Of course you can install TWRP before or after root because I've tried it before.
After I rooted my note 5, I installed xposed framework using TWRP and incrediblely successful.

In American culture (and XDA is an American forum), it's disrespectful not to give credit to others when using their work. That's one reason (among others) for #12 of the forum rules:
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails, you may then contact a Moderator and provide clear evidence that the work was created by you.

When permission has already been given, unless there is a very valid reason, it cannot be revoked (same applies to major updates on the work). Under that same premise, permissions cannot be denied unless the work is exclusive or under extreme circumstances.
In plain English: If you want to keep your work exclusive, go for it. However, if you are going to share your work, do it fairly.
Reposted content, derivative or maintaned works based on that of former or banned members may be removed at our discretion.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA (including but not limited to ROMs, RUUs, apps, games, kernels, themes, icons, etc) unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.
Respect the forum rules and nobody will doubt your intentions.

I don't have the HK version of the phone, but wanted to take a moment to call out @Tomleungyuethei with my thanks for contributing to the community. Normally, I'd just whack the "thanks" button, but seeing a newer XDA member (or at least one with so few posts) contribute is nice, and I'm willing to risk a moderator chastising me in order to reply with an explicit "Thank you."

I really want to contribute and learn about android knowledge.
Hopefully I can help, and learn something here as well.
I can verify this is legit, but just open galaxy apps and search for CROM Service , you will find this apk its an official bootloader unlock from samsung, *IMPORTANT* as soon as you use this ap. you void your warranty and submit your imei to samsung, you also upon NEXT REBOOT will lose all your GAPPS AND any app you downloaded via playstore on that account!
IT IS possible to save it all, heres what I did.
1. Install CROM service apt from galaxy apps
2. turn on Developer options > OEM UNLOCK
3. run CROM Service to unlock bootloader
4. reboot to download mode, flash twrp 2.8.7.0 from twrp.me/devices (the noblelteh dual sim one)
5. take full backup of data, radio, efs, boot (don't even bother backing up system)
6. reboot device (gapps gets wiped and apps are gone)
7. reboot to download mode, reflash stock odin tar of same system version(i used OI1)
8. reboot to download mode, reflash twrp recovery
9. reboot to recovery, restore data, backup system, reboot
10. you have your system back with gapps and every other app back to how it was before you CROM unlocked and lost gapps
11. flash kernel with root and whatever else you want do with your phone
was gonna make a post right after i finished building arters kernel for our device, it was confusing to figure out what the hell download mode was bit#$ing about in chinese characters when you tried to flash something, but glad someone else was able to share the info, I didn't wanna post the files without permissions so I was going to get arteries port working with auto root before making a guide.
I'm actually quite interested to see what the chinese dev community comes up with on this device as this is my first time having a international model that actually has a working radio here in canada

this reads/appears to be a similar process i used to root my SM-N9208. the CROM apk is actually a Samsung app available from the Samsung store; i believe it's needed to unlock the bootloader. i had to flash a root kernel as well but i believe the one i used was for the 9208. nonetheless, when done, my 9208 was rooted, TWRP installed, and xposed installed and running on the stock odexed ROM. risky, yes... , but it's working so far...

Link to the kernel you used on your 9208? Or will all this 9200 stuff also work on the 9208?
