Motorola sold to Lenovo today - RAZR i General

Guys, we have a lenovo phone now...

I can only predict darkness in our future...

Yep, that made it worse for getting some code or new updates...
Sent from my GT-P5110 using XDA Premium HD app

Well, lenorola is the biggest mobile manufacture for intel right now, so maybe thats good? but lets be honest, in the mid term it doesn't change a thing for us, just like it didn't change anything to the previous owners of motorola devices before the acquisition by google, the exchange is going to be effective in a couple of months, so whatever we get an update to kitkat/4.3/4.2/nothing is still up to googlerola and/or Intel.

I always wanted to try out Lenovo phones, now I can finally do it without spending any money at all
Gesendet von meinem XT890 mit Tapatalk

Yep, when you realise that Moto apparently lost $1.2bn on turnover of $4.7bn in the last year, it makes you realise what a basket case it is. That's 25% of the money we pay for our phones goes straight down the drain - hey if anyone wants to give me some money, and I'll only give you 75% of it back, I'm interested. And Razr i wasn't anywhere near its best selling phone, or even sold in its major market. And we seriously expect the new owners to throw even more good money after bad?
It's the economics . . .
But if anyone has ideas how to squeeze some profit from us Razr i users and turn a thumping loss into a profit, then I guess Lenovo would be glad to hear from you. But I won't be sending them a donation, I'll pass on that one.

Sure I have an idea: $10 for the update. I would have paid that until google and moto drove me away to become an iTard.

Well, I guess I'm moving to Apple

[Q] Atrix 4G ICS Dead?? What will be your next phone?

I am getting tired of always picking the company that least supports its product. I really love the Atrix 4G but I need to move to ICS for security reasons at work. I have waited patiently only to be denied in the end.
That being said, I am looking for a company that not only delivers what they are promissing but activly maintains thier products.
What will be your next phone/manufacturer?
Nexus will be best option. At least it will be updated without false commitments.
Sent from my Atrix 4G, using Tapatalk.
I had a run of Android devices, bit sick of constant update crap, and I'm not giving Google more of my money for a nexus after they shafted us.
So I'm going back to iOS for a while, had a play with an iPhone 5 yesterday; it was damn nice. Same size, but nicer, screen as the Atrix, half the thickness and feels really good quality wise. Camera is awesome.
Maybe when it's due for an update there will be another platform to try out.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2
That is some bad news to hear, would of been great to see a ICS/JB rom developed by Notorious544d
Thankfully I sold my Atrix last tuesday and currently looking to buy a HTC One X since they are the best deal right now Hardware/Price...
I am done with motorolla. I said screw this and I ordered a Galaxy nexus today. I was going to sit on it and run out my contract but this was the last straw. I am going to pull the phone off the net showing that this move kills the phone. It me moving off of motorala. It means no increased sales for motorola it means more sales for other companies.
I'm planning on getting a Nexus phone next. It will probably be quite more than a year before I can ditch this thing, though. At least I have my Nexus 7.
Wait, you guys are pissed off with Motorola so you paid a premium for a phone from Google who owns Motorola? And who, in all probability, killed our update?
That'll show them your outrage.

I know the feeling. I was prepared to pay the $830 but when I looked today I grabbed one for $625.
People don't think about it, but 40,000 devices for $32,000,000 is $800 per device. Every one they sell less than that they're losing money on.

I think there's a lot of people thinking this. Once it gets closer to the required amount and its a more feasible possibility that the phone will actually be made there will be more people to jump on board. That's what I was thinking until I found out that the funders got a refund if it didn't meet the goal. Once I knew that then I jumped on because I don't want people not buying the device because they're waiting for the number to get higher. There just isn't much logic behind that when you'll either get the phone or a full refund. The longer you wait, the more you risk having to pay more for the device.
Sent from my One X
Yep - I jumped on board too $32million is a big target though - hopefully when it beats the pebble smartwatch funding record ($10mil) people will take it more seriously.

Fortunately there seem to be lots of good samaritans that are pledging lower amounts for no reward - basically subsidising the phone for the rest of us!

Every little bit helps. If this phone gets funded then they'll release another next year that maybe you can jump on. If this phone doesn't get made then there's no knowing how long it'll take for a device like this to be made again.

Would it be against XDA policy to make a thread such as this in the Android and Windows Phone general sections? I didn't think of it till you mentioned it, but just because its in those threads doesn't mean people aren't interested. We're not forcing the phone on anyone, just wanting to bring it to light. I've used all of my social networking connections to promote this device.

Will the 2012 Nexus 7 be obsolete soon?

Just curious,

Technically its been obsolete for a while but I imagine we'll get AOSP support for a couple more years.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
If you are using a custom ROM, you can bet your ass it will be obsolete.
None of the devs except maybe 2 in the whole community have stuck with a device they are developing for once a new one comes out. They'll abandon users as soon as something new comes out.
I actually came to this forum to see if there was a stock 4.3, because I'm sick and tired of devs who walk out on their users.
Any ROM developers reading this: Yes, this most likely means you.
The DONATIONS you give these guys gives them enough money to get something new; that means, you paid for your own demise.
I'll probably get some flak over this comment, but I've been a member since 2006, I see the trends.
Disgraceful.
It's so bad, I trust Verizon more than I do developers. Now that's sad.

Lol!
Obsolescence is a state of mind.
I'm still happy to be using my unrooted DroidX on Android 2.3.4, my rooted, stock Nexus 7 locked at Android 4.1.2 (very stable at 1100+ hours System Uptime, i.e. no unexpected reboots), and even a Windows XP SP3 PC.

ERM HTC hd 2 much? Bit harsh labeling all developers like that, rather than just dissing them have a go at it yourself. The whole paying for your own demise is unfair too, these guys put hours of effort & probably stressful nights into these ROMs & upload these ROMs for FREE but the option is there to DONATE if you would like to. I have only just got a 2012 n7 & hope to learn enough to keep it running as long as the hardware will last. If you want to keep custom ROMs in development have a go at it rather than sitting back & waiting for it serving up on a plate for free & being ungrateful for what you have actually been given. Remember these guys have lives & jobs & families outside providing FREE ROMs for you.

Apparently you didn't read the post.
I said that I was searching for a STOCK 4.3 ROM.
and.. I trust Verizon more than I trust devs.
What would make you think I'm using a custom ROM after that comment?
It's not harsh, it's the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts.
I am on tapatalk but if I made my way over to a desktop view, I'm guessing you just joined in the last 2 years. If not, you should see the trends and notice this inexcusable behavior.
I've been here for 7, I see the trends. I am on the most coveted Motorola device at this time, because it's the only one "unlockable". Meander over to the RAZR HD forums, it's dead and we get stale bread crap roms while the sgs4 gets hyperdrive.
I am scared ****less to unlock my device because I know the devs are already abandoning it. I would rather Verizon come out with 4.3 and I can get a nexus 7 4.3 and be on my merry way developing more apps.
When you have something device centric and the users gave you donations to support your development on that device, you are not supposed to walk away from those users like most do. Essentially, they screw the user because they walk off with the money and never look back. If they were business people they wouldn't be in business long for all the lawsuits they would encounter.
Tell me you haven't had this happen to you before.
Low blow or not, it's the truth.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I do see what your saying to a point but it doesn't leave a device useless. The option is there to leave stock, flash a custom Rom or make one to suit yourself. Being dickish really isn't going to help gain support or sympathy, the only thing being achieved here is irritating people & isolating yourself from any help you may need.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Well... Look at it this way, someone had to say it.
When it comes time for a new operating system, people are left high and dry for root access, making their device useless for all intents and purposes.
The developers need to pay a little more respect to people that made donations with not walking away the first sight of a new device.
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX HD

If he was going to complain about developers doing what they want with their own free time, I'm not surprised he didn't think things through about where factory images come.
Newsflash: donations are voluntary contributions. They are not the same as service fees or commission payment. They carry no legal obligations. If you choose to donate to a dev to get a device, you're acknowledging in the act of donation that the dev is under no contract to support a device for any length of time.
It's very different from what you appear to be imagining, which is some bizarre situation where devs draw up contracts to do crowdfunded work and then breach some "agreement" they made with their users. If a carrier that you pay money for service stops providing services, they're legally liable for that. But if you donate money to a dev? Good luck getting anyone to give a hoot. Caveat emptor.

But......But I just got a walnut back 32gb X. Really don't want to rma, but if this is true, not sure that I want to keep it.
I'm still sticking with my VZW Dev Edition for now because I can tether my unlimited data and it's way way way faster than my Galaxy Nexus... but FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
My initial reaction was shock and dismay, specifically because I really thought Google was helping to turn around Motorola. But the truth is that Lenovo does turn out quality products too. My past three laptops have all been Thinkpads and my latest one, a 2013 T430, is a tank that takes a licking but keeps on ticking. One can only hope that Lenovo will let Motorola continue its trend for quality phones like the X.

all of these massive price reductions make sense now.
I really don't know what my next phone will be. I am not a fan of anything out there right now.

Nexus 6 getting same specs as OP 2

Just ordered OP2 today and admittedly, was going to sell it asap for a little profit for Nexus in October, but now I'm thinking, with same specs, we should get updates from CM pretty damn quick shouldn't we? Huawei is a Chinese smartphone company, I'd bet a pretty penny almost everything is identical on the inside... What do you think? Does this mean earlier and more stable Android M+ builds in our future? Should I keep it?
Also, how many invites do I get in the mail with the phone this time. I got 3 last year.

Its all speculation at this point. The N6 2015 may have the same chipset and stuff but that doesn't necessarily mean they're exactly the same.
The OPT doesn't have any support from CM, though...
