It depends what you want in a phone.
I switched from the HTC One to the Note3 for one reason only. Screen size.
HTC One is 4.7inches
Note 3 is 5.7
Note has fancy eye tracking software, air gestures, S Pen etc.. The HTC doesn't.
No one can make the choice for you. Go get some hands on time with each and decide which you want.

Dollar for dollar, IMO, there's probably no better value for the money than the LG Optimus G Pro. You can get them unlocked for around $300 and they have:
5.5 inch 1080P IPS display
32GB
Micro SD expansion slot
3140 mAh battery (removable)
Metal frame (not plastic)
Built-in Wireless charging out of the box
13 MP camera that has a manual focus control (which I think is a brilliant feature) In most situations, the camera produces less over-processed images than the Note 3
I had one and sold it before moving to the Note 3, and I still think it was a bad move on my part, overall.

The HTC One is definitely nice.
I love the solid metal frame and the forward facing speakers.
But no expandable SD slot and the sealed battery is a deal killer for me.
Plus, the screen size of the note is just amazing!

I came from HTC one too. Now that phone is using my girlfriend. HTC was good device but note 3 is better. Better camera and battery and of course big and nice a sreen. I am very happy.

I have htc one and thinking of buying a Note 3 as I primarily do more reading on phone, the screen is too small for me. If you buying a htc one, make sure you are easily accessible to a repair service, like not buying from oversea. In case you have purple tint camera problem. I had it on mine and got replaced.

Note 3 is the worst note model but there's no better phone out there, got it?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app

I would also still choose the Note 3 if I had to choose again,
since the note 3 is much more powerful.
And also what's already said here before, I really like the idea of changing or pulling out the battery.
So far I'm still very happy with my Note 3, despite the KNOX thing.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Note definitely. The screen is just amazing.

+1
Definitely the note 3.
Best amazing beautiful 5.7 screen.
Best qualcomm SOC quad core.
Max 3gb RAM
Best S-PEN.
Etc.
Btw, knox is really a waste... But you can live with it

I own both and love them for different reasons. The build quality/design of the note and it's horrible software are it's biggest drawbacks. The One performs better in almost every way with general use i.e. the apps load in the blink of an eye, including the camera.
The Note has way too much of delay when doing simple things like loading the phone or messages apps, and the software design is ugly, sluggish and very dated i.e. no gestures or consideration for size of the phone in terms of menu options appearing at the very top of the screen. Also a lack of real estate due to the default dpi used by Samsung.
The camera quality is debateable. Outdoors in good lighting conditions, the Note wins hands down. But honestly, how often are we outdoors in optimal lighting? The One takes images in the blink of an eye, has OIS and great FOV which captures more in the frame. It is a much better all rounder with the best low light shots of any phone I've had.
The one only really falls short in two areas for me.
1) The battery is good but the Note absolutely kills it! Charge time is also a lot slower than the Note even though it's much smaller.
2) The screen is amazing on the Note. The One is fantastic as well but the Notes size is hard to let go of once you're used to it. It's such a great middle size that eliminated the need for a phone AND a tablet, in most cases. I also love the the contrast, saturation and deep blacks, it's very appealing to look at.
Overall, I think that the One is the better phone due to its superior software, build quality which rivals Apple, excellent everyday-use camera, stereo speakers and snappy UI and performance. But the Note isn't far behind. I would be able forgive it's build quality and rank it as the better overall phone if it weren't for Samsung's dated Touchwiz UI and crappy software. They really need to work on this in their next major release as it has put me off buying Samsung ever again.
At the end of the day, they're both great choices and I find myself switching between the two as I miss different things about each one. I'm definitely excited to see what the new flagships will be like in the coming months.

[Q] Hard to decide between Note 3 and Nexus 5

Hi guys,
I am having some serious thoughts on what to get... Basically I am a software developer and I have a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S1 some ond Xperia and a Nexus 7. It is time for me to switch to a new device as my daily driver. The options I have are Galaxy Nexus 5 and the Note 3. The Note 3 is more expensive with around 150$ in my country, considering the type of contract I am getting. The phone will be used for at least one year.
Nexus 5: well, no review yet. Price is reasonable in my country and has the new 4.4. The new android version doesn't impress me. To be honest I find the google experience pretty boring but I have to admit I liked receiving fast updates on my Nexus.
Note 3: I have been reading around the forum for the last days. I saw that many have problems with the home button, the battery life, the screen issues. I like the s-pen features but I am not sure how much I'll use them.
What advice do you give me ? What should I get ?

i have galaxy note 3 but if i time returns i will choose nexus 5
Please mention your reasons. It would help me a lot. Thanks
I'm using note 3 at the moment and my nexus 5 is on its way to me, will give more accurate impression once received.
Features I prefer nexus 5 over note 3
Design look and feel (massive improvement)
No TW bloatware (another massive factor)
Easier to carry around
More regular software updates kat 4.4
No lag freezing (hopefully)
Features I will miss coming from note 3
camera not impressed at all (will miss that the most)
4k video recording
Battery life
S-pen (just a little)
Multi screens (what a feature)
Large screen
Ext memory
Have you encountered any problems with the Note 3 ? Does it lag ? Do you have that effect on low brightness for dark borders ? How does TW bloatware affect you ?
Battery wise note has 50%more juice. Home button issues - do you mean the button moving around? It is not a problem, people are too much complaining about tiny tiny things they should never find unless they read about it.
Camera - i think nexus5 is way better than n3. Its not the pixels that matter, or software options. Nexus 5 camera is next level, focus is about 10 times faster.
Bloatware yes, samsung puts 700mb of bloatware that you dont receive on nexus. Not sure if anything of that is usable. But cyanogenmod should arrive soon!
I wish note3 had the new camera and with optical stabilization, then it would be perfect!
As for 4.4 - its just a number. There will definitely arrive new android versions fast on the n3, just that you have to flash it yourself and void the warranty.

I like Nexus because:
- The design of the device and the appearance of the UI is more appealing to me. I like to keep things on my phone looking pretty "minimalistic" with few colors and lots and lots of black. I absolutely hate the Touchwiz cartoony look and I always change everything about it, the process starts immediately on first boot of the phone. Everything about Touchwiz looks awful - the icons, the menus, the choices in colors, those horrible big green quick settings toggles in the notification bar. Stock Android is much much better when it comes to looks. The Nexus 5 and its software looks like it's been designed by a design team made up of adults who actually make cohesive decisions together. Touchwiz looks to me like the school project of a pre-school class where everyone can add their favorite color and everyone gets to participate and add their touch to the design. Little Johnny wants a big blue, round icon there - OK let's put it right next to Jenny's rectangular pink icon there and add Lisa's green toggles! Fun for everybody.
I like Note 2/3 because:
- The battery is bigger. I've never been this satisfied with battery life.
- The screen is bigger. Honestly after using the Note 2, I cringe every time I use my iPhone 4 (I keep it as my spare phone) or my wife's Galaxy S III. The displays are so tiny, I don't think I could go back. Not even to a 5" display.
- I don't like the on screen nav buttons of stock Android. I want the physical menu, home and back buttons.
- The S-Pen. I'm not a heavy S-Pen user but it has really nice features on the Note 3. I use it much more with my Note 3 than I did with my Note 2.
- Memory card slot. Seriously. I could not live without one.
- Removable battery - not a big reason but nonetheless it is nice.
I hate the Note 2/3 because:
- I get to a point where I'm never satisfied with the ROM I use. New stuff is released on XDA and I feel this pressing need to try other ROMs. All the time. Sometimes it seems all I do with my phone is restoring backups. With the Nexus I think that I would be more easily able to just stick with one ROM.. Maybe even the stock ROM, just rooting it.
Don't listen to them
I just bought Note 3 after using Note 2 for couple of months
And go for Note 3 believe me this is the beast .. Note 3 Snap dragon
I am in the same boat as op.
I have a s2 now for 3 years and looking for an upgrade.
Minimum 5 inch screen, preferably a tad bigger.
Key feature should be office workability, due to a upcoming promotion as a project manager.
So I need info from all sorts of documents on the fly. Including excel.
Does the note provide this?
For free time I love playing games and viewing movies.
Help appreciated.

U may have to wait for few weeks to get the full hands on review about this. Nexus 5. The specs r good. But we don't know about battery life, camera performance, and heating issues. Note 3 is good in these areas.

I am planning on using the Note 3 with stock firmware from Samsung... because of warranty issues of knox trigger. This would also help on trying to reproduce bugs that appear on TouchWiz platform easier. So, having stock on Note3 sucks performance wise ?

Perhaps wait for nokia lumia 1520.

Note 3 is far better then note 2 for sure but is it the best ow no. It's a beast but not the best.
If i didn't have the Note 3 already i would be pretty tempted to buy the Nexus 5. It's half the price, here, with great hardware, Kit Kat, Google updates, etc. But those touch buttons (why?) on the screen are a no no for me.
Thank you all for replies. After doing a lot of reading on the Buyers remorse thread I see that most of note3 users are happy. The only notable problems are: very weak audio output because of the small speaker, the pink effect around black edges on low brightness settings and the wobbly home button. Also I see that the battery isn't so great.
I am really thinking what to get, as I said, the difference would be around 150$ in price.
If I didn't have N3 already I would have the N5. I had N4 previously.
N3 has plus and minus points.
+ points
Battery Life - best I ever had
SD Card - installed 64GB,some users have install 128GB.
Big Screen - I like the screen some don't like AMOLED colors.
Fastest CPU & 3GB RAM
Multi Window & Pen Window
IrDA port - can control devices from my phone.
- points
Design - not very stylish
Build quality - my back cover already creaks only 1 month old. Others have experienced Home button and screen/multi touch issues
External Speakers - embarrassing from Samsung.
Samsung bloatware - unnecessary
Wireless Charging - not built in but @ extra cost

Costum ROM
why wouldn't you just wait on xda to get pure 4.4 android and install that ROM on your note 3 ?
Hi,
the Google Nexus 5 is indeed a very good phone. Having switched from Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note 3 I can basically give you good explanations.
The Galaxy Note 3 has plenty more features than the Google Nexus 4 abd 5 which is great.
I would say the Note 3 wins everywhere against the Nexus unless you tell me you prefer smaller screen. In my case, the screen size was the reasob why I moved.
On the otherside, yes there are a lot of Samsung apps and that sucks to me. The Galaxy Note 3 can be rooted easily, so you can easy remove those bloatwares which make me feel more confortable that way.
On the other hand, I do prefer the PURE Androis that the Google Nexus has to the TouchWiz by Samsung because it uses way less resources.
The perfect phone for me would be a Note 3 with a AOSP Rom. (CyanogenMod or Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) because it would give the pure android feeling which means higher battery life, no bloatwares, faster updates.
Ok guys, some N5 reviews have appeared and to be honest, things don't look that good in battery and camera departments. Actually that was kinda expected considering the 2300 mAh battery and 1080p screen.
Now back to note 3, all the small things that bothered me (wobbly home button, pinkish black borders, bloatware) are not important anymore. The things that worries me most is the screen burn in. I saw some reviews where this is mentioned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3mbkoXCMhs&feature=em-uploademail from 19 minute). I have own so far a Galaxy S1 and a Galaxy Nexus both having amoled screens. On my GNex sometimes I can see the keyboard shadow after using it, but I haven't really noticed any permanent retention as it goes off after a few seconds. I just did a quick check with blue color all over the screen and I can see a very faint shadow of the top bar, but nothing really noticeable. BUT, I use the phone on auto brightness and considering that Note 3 has the most bright amoled display built, I am afraid that it will suffer from permanent burn in because of blue pixels. Could anyone tell me if they have burn in ? This is a major drawback for me and might be the point which may convince me to give up on note3 in favor of N5.
Thanks all for your help. I really appreciate it.
For me it's so simple. They don't even belong to the same category.
Do you need/like the S-Pen features (and do you actually use them)? Do you need the bigger screen and the amazing Full HD @60fps video (let alone the 4K)?
If not then the Nexus 5 is a no brainer at this price point. Plain and simple.
Apps and bloatware are of no importance to me. I always remove them to my preference, to me flashing ROMs is an integral part of a smartphone like Note 3.
I agree with you, but if the screen has issues than all the other features are pointless, considering that the screen is the thing we see most.
It would be really great if owners could do some screen tests and return with the result.

Note 2 vs Note 3: Camera Factor

Hey guys, you might have seen my grumpy threads lately. I have a Note 3 that I really like but it has come o my knowledge that the camera on this thing is horrendous at low light. I have tried playing around with settings and while there are sligth improvements, I cant say I am fully satisfied
I was wondering for those of y'all hthat have had a Note 2 (I never did), is the camera better and worth it enough to return the Note 3 and get a 2 off of eBay. With all the new features of the Note 3, does it outweigh the features of the Note 2.
Buying a 2 off of eBay would mean having unlocked AT&T one cause I've heard the Tmobile Note 2s earlier batch have no LTE ...using an AT&T Note 2 on a T mob network might mean no 4.3 updates for me?
What does the Note 3 have going for it that make it despite the camera a better phone than the Note 2 and would y'all go back to a Note 2 despite camera?
I'm not too much a power user but I appreciate multitasking and takign NOTES and doodling which is why I splurged on the Note 3. It has made a huge difference in my life already.

The Note 3 is better than Note 2 in every sense possible. CPU, GPU, Camera, Screen, RAM, Sensors, S-Pen, design, some might argue battery. But personally, I just up to 9hrs screen on time. So I'll add battery to the list too. Bottom line, DO NOT go back to Note 2. If you want a low light performer, htc one is the way to go. Cheers.

I returned the Note 3 and I am trying the Note 2. Gonna experiment heavily for the next couple of days and if I don't see a big difference then it's back to Note 3. I'm already missing the native Action Memo and improved S pen.
I don't agree on the camera part yet. And it has to be a Note device because I cannot go back to using a bunch of paper for notes. I'm too disorganized for that
@stanley08
I agree with everything you said except for the camera and design.
Camera
More megapixels doesn't make a camera better. And if your priorities are low light, more MP can actually be a bad thing. I haven't been too thrilled with the camera on my note 3, but I think my expectations have become a little high. So if I was solely going for a good camera, I wouldn't choose the note 3 over the note 2.
Design
I definitely think the note 3's design looks a lot better than than the note 2's! no contest for me.
But as far as usability goes I think I'll give the nod to the note 2. The bigger bezels, the rounded corners and pebble shape all felt more comfortable in the hand than the note 3's sexier shape with thinner bezels.
@edo101
I myself was in a similar position albeit before I upgraded from my ancient 3gs.?
I had the note 2 in my sights for a while and by the time I'd saved the cash needed, the note 3 was out. Luckily I had the cash for either but didn't want to buy the note 3 just because it was the latest and greatest.
It was the look that tipped the scales for me(quite ironic, considering what I wrote above), the IR blaster, Air Command (this has been ported over, if you do get a note 2, search for: note 3 apps for note 2 thread) and scrapbooker(which I thought I'd use all the time to bookmark things of interest. But I still just take screen shots lol).
My Reasons to keep the Note 3 would be; The screen, IR Blaster, Battery Life, more guts (better internals), 4G & newer OS and more future support from Samsung (which might not necessarily be a good thing).

I needed to update my post. I am trying the Note 2. I really shoudl go and buy the note 3 from that store since i can afford to and try both simultaneously. I don't know why and i didn't expect it but the Note 3 camera has really turned me off. In the past I have never had to worry about having steady hands and constantly fidgeting with settings to get a decent indoor shot.
I do like the UI of Note 3 but I can already tell the Note 2 has a better camera. I SINCERELY MISS Air Command so I'm gonna have to look at a way to make it available on my note 2.
Now I bought the ntoe 2 locally for 460 tax included but I'm thinking of returning it if I am satisfied and getting one of off ebay for 350 max save a little money and not feel as bad. (I'd root it and hopefully get the Air command) then wait it out for a better camera on Note 4 I hope. does that sound like a good plan?
Oh and any insight on which version of Note 2 I should get, AT&T or Tmbile version. I am currently on MetroPCS which runs off of TMobile
The Note 2 has 4G LTE, I just miss the Note 3's UI (the screen I can manage lol) and the UI (especially camera UI) and AIR COMMAND
Everyone entitled to his own opinion I guess
But for me Note 3 is generally ALOT better than Note 2. However, I change my phones every 5 to 6 months and would be getting the next best thing soon so I don't really dwell on phones.
It's important to get what works better for u.

I can't do that without contract lol. And Sammy has spoiled me with the pen. Its made life soo much easier for a disorganized mess like me so I am sticking with Note line until someone makes an alternative (hopefully from nexus line for obvious reasons).
But man the Note 3 as perfect (especially that lovely pen and screen) but that friggin camera man.
I had the note 2 and found the camera better. But I also found the battety life and wifi better on my note 2.plus I get random reboots on note 3 .

The only thing in note 2 camera that i like, is the capture field, is more wider. The note 3 camera is more narrow, so to capture more field in note 3 you need to step back more than note 2.

I guess I know the reason(but not exactly sure) why note3 got weird slow camera behaviour because the same problem actually appeared on gs4 as well. I've PMed you and asked for some questions, please check it out.
I had the note 2 and now I have the note 3. I miss the fireworks and night mode. At nightime the note 2 was way better in my opinion. Plus on note 3 less battery life and loads more crapware. And poor wifi.

I have seen so many posts related to poor wifi on the n9005. I just dont understand it.. surely people are getting faulty units? My wifi is better than my i9100.. and i used to think that was good!

I had the note 2 before, and I have to say that the 2 typical hardware problems remained:
Camera is crap on low light
low wifi and hsdpa signal
I think thats really sad on a phone like that.... if i want to make pictures at a party with barely light, i sometimes wish my old iphone 4 back with iOS you can't do so much, but the things you can do, you can do in perfection.... who needs 12MP on a blurry picture?
it's really not that difficult to look for a camera modul that is appropriate to a 800$ phone, instead of developing more and more additional funtions that no one uses until it's a complete sw-chaos

[Q] Note 3 or S5 ?

Hey guys. Tomorrow I am going to buy a new phone and I am deciding between S5 and Note 3. I was going to buy the Note 3 when I just notice that In my countru the price of the Note 3 and S5 is absolutely Identical (32GB Note 3 and 16GB S5). So is the screen on the S5 really better or there isn't a big difference and how is the battery life on the both devices ? Is the Camera on the S5 better in low light or its the same as the note 3 ? Is the Speaker in the S5 better ?

From seeing both at my cellphone carrier's store:
- Note 3 has better speakers, must be because IP67 in S5.
- Screen is better, smaller looks sharper and definitely brighter.
- Can't tell about battery life, haven't had a Note 3 for much time. Reviewers put them in nearly equal terms with slight advantage to the S5 (AnandTech).
- Camera is good, but low light is a weakness... so they most likely are in the same ground. None has OIS.
- Both seem to have poor memory management, Note 3 has 3 GB of RAM though but S5 has newer, faster chipset.
I picked the S5 because of the more recent stock software (Touchwiz in S5 is quite better than the previous iteration IMHO) and the form factor, try them both if possible. The decision is more if you want a phablet or a normal factor.
For latest and 2014 software features and latest hardware go for s5. If u need pen phone and big screen then note 3, but I think note 3 is getting old as it is late 2013 phone. Note 4 is coming with more than s5 soon on September.
So you can wait for it too..

I was going to buy the S5 yesterday but I saw its back and it looks just awful and the phone feels like a cheap Chinese copy of a real samsung phone. The note 3 feels a bit better (the plastic actually feels like leather) and I like its looks a lot better. But then comes the Software and Hardware that is a lot better on the S5. I am really confused right now
I own both. Personally I much, much prefer the Note 3.
First some advice.
If you've got a few months left to wait, wait to see what the Note 4 is going to be. 1st week of September is when it'll be announced, should start selling early october. Also, the S5 Prime with top-specs is expected somewhere in the middle of the year. Wait for that, if you can. The current S5 is a joke.
So...
The camera on the S5 is a little better, it's IP67 and the colours on the screen are prettier. But that's about it.
The Note has a bigger screen. Yes, the S5 had a more saturated screen, but in my opinion bigger is more useful. Particularly for entertainment or multitasking.
The additional 16GB of internal storage is very, very relevant. 4.4.2 breaks moving apps to the SDcard, so you'll need it (unless you root, which breaks KNOX)
More RAM. 2GB vs 3GB. I know there are some who say "You don't need 2GB(It's actually less than that)". You do. The S5 has some horrendous lag, and the memory runs full very, very quickly.
The S5 has a slightly faster CPU (2.3Ghz vs 2.5Ghz), but the RAM is such a bottleneck that you barely notice the increase in speed. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would use only 2GB.
The Spen. Even if you're not a pen user, it comes with some nifty tools. Particularly the Pen Window is very useful, as it enables you to answer messages without switching away from your film or game. The pen also enables you to use your phone when eating, because you don't have to worry about greasy fingers on the screen.
The camera on the Note 3 is rather crap in low light. And I'm putting that nicely. It looks like an oil painting. The S5 has a slightly bigger sensor, making it a little better in low light.
And then there's the design. I can't help it, the S5 looks to me like something you buy as a toy for your 5 year old niece. It just looks so cheap. (particularly the White one..) At least the Note 3 looks like it costs 700 euro(releaseprice)...
Unless you're a fitness buff, I don't see the point of all those health gimmicks. There are functional heartrate apps that use the flashlight on the Note 3 and match the results of an actualy monitor besides it.
I do have to say the S5 is a little better at surviving drops and bumps. It can handle a bit more rough treatment. The Note 3 is fairly fragile by comparison. So if you lead an active lifestyle or are clumsy, and you don't want a case, an S5 might be a better idea.
All in all, I'd go with the Note 3 anyday. Bu tthat's my personal choice.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to see them both at my local store and choose then. Also the S5 is kind of hard to find in my country.

Yes I agree that s5 feels cheap. But I think in mobile business no one company is perfect. Every company have their bad side and their popularity side.
S5 / Samsung don't concentrate on design, but Samsung software is really smart and mostly people like it. Its rich in features like hell.
Like I said every company have down and good side. In mobile business that is the main thing..
HTC and make premium design but simple software. But difference is HTC mostly good in sound music and simplycity but Sony good for camera. So depends upon you. That is business.

The problem is that I cant wait. My HTC One broke and now I am using this - http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/phones/30779-xlarge/Nokia-100-3.jpg And I need my phone... not just for games and facebook, but for school. It helps me out a lot. And also phones in my country come a bit late. You can barely find S5 and its been a month since its release.
Also i checked both of the phones in the local store and I am in a even bigger dilemma now I see how the S-pen can come useful, but I find the note 3 a bit big for everyday use. Also The S5 seems kind of slow.. I dont know why but it even seems slower than my HTC One. The camera need a lot of time to open photos after I took them and usually this drives me crazy...
The things most important to me are:
1. Performance
2. Battery
3. Camera
My one usually did the job with the battery and the performance but the camera wasn't what I expected. It takes great shots but 4MP isnt enough for zooming and I often need to zoom my photos to read some text or other...

Get n3 if you can't wait.
Also make sure you get snapdragon version of it, exynos sucks big time. I was looking forward to n3 but didn't buy because SD ain't available in my country.

For you to compare:

The 32GB of the Note3 is good. The S5 is easy to find in 16Gb but 32GB would be better but hard to find and more expensive. Go with Note3 or wait for N4. Also consider OnePlus one or Oppo Find if you can wait.

Get the note 3 if you dont mind a larger device. basically get the same phone, minus finger print sensor and heartrate monitor. Except you can get 32gb for the price of 16gb.

Hmmm... If you have issues with your own "size", go with the note 3, just as you did when you got the big screen and truck. Or if you're a "size queen" as they're called, go for a note 3. But if you like the finger print gimmick, I pretty much do, or like me sometimes find yourself on hallucinogenic escapades that take you at times in the rain, shower/bath or under waterfalls, the ip6 whatever the rest of it is, will come in handy. Man, everyone talking about the lag, I sure wish I didn't agree. There must be a solution. Off to another sub forum. I want to find the solution. Chime in if any of you know of a rom/trick that speeds this phone up.

Guys. Thanks for the info but I already got the S5. I got it becouse it's a bit smaller device and the Note 3's camera in low light is alful. Also note 3 has 13MP but you can use the camera in 16:9 aspect ratio only on 10MP. On the S5 the 16MP are 16:9. I will miss the s-pen but thats the only thing that I will miss. I also got the s5 becouse I think that it will recieve faster updates. I find the S5 a bit slow (even slower than my one) and also not a big fan of touchwiz. (I didnt think that I will miss sense so much) But overall im happy with the S5 becouse the battery lasts more than twice than my old HTC one and the battery was the most important thing to me.

Is the Note 4 the right phone for me? (last minute advice before I purchase)

Can anybody give me any last-minute advice before I sell my iPhone 6 Plus for a Galaxy Note 4?
I'm not looking for any iOS vs Android arguments, but after switching between iOS and Android, I seem to prefer Android much more.
However, I want an Android phone with a top-notch camera and it seems like the Note 4 has the best (?) camera available. I have two little kids and often don't take my camera with me, so I want a phone with a very good camera and excellent video capability as well. (I probably take slightly more videos than I do pictures)
I also want something at least 5" or larger. I'm mostly used to the "large" iPhone 6 Plus size, so I don't think the Note 4 will be a problem.
My top phones I'm deciding between are: Note 4, OnePlus One, LG G3, Sony Xperia Z3, Galaxy S5, Moto X.
Price isn't a concern because I'll be selling my iPhone 6 Plus to recoup the costs.
EDIT: I am a little concerned about the higher resolution on the Note 4 slowing down some light gaming, or having scaling issues with games, etc...
I actually just switched from a 6 Plus to a Note 4 in the past two weeks and I havent really regretted doing so. I have also owned the OPO, G3, and S5 and to my liking the Note 4 overpowers all. Note 4 takes wonderful pictures as you already with OIS as well as great videos. Since I have had the device I haven't snapped a lot of videos but I know there wouldn't be an issue in that category when it comes down to it.
As for slowing down when you are gaming, idk much about that since I do zero gaming on my device. You going from the 6 Plus to the Note 4 will be a breeze since the Note 4 is easier to hold in hands, despite people saying that the edges are sharp on the Note but that doesnt affect me since I run a case on my Note 4.
If you are taking lots of videos and pictures then having that external memory is a plus already. I am running an 128GB sd card in my device which I know is overkill but its there if I need it. I can also store a few 4k videos up there if I really wanted to. I don't think you will be dissapointed with the switch to the Note 4. Yeah it was a stretch coming from how smooth iOS is and then going back to bloaty Touchwiz but TW has been optimized a little more and with a few tweaks it can be very smooth, I say hit some comparison videos up on YouTube and then make the decision.
Thanks so much for the information!
I'm still doing research, and is it true that the AT&T version has it's bootloader unlocked, but the T-Mobile is unlocked?
I'd like to stay with AT&T, so would there be a problem purchasing the T-Mobile version and activating it on AT&T?
Unfortunately one of the applications I use (ARUnchained) requires root access so I do want an Android phone that can be rooted...
I am also on the edge of buying note 4. I am actually using z3 right now and the reason I would be switching is the camera. It is not so good as it looks on the paper and the only reason why I would be changing.
Everything else I like a lot and I actually don't like Samsung as a brand and almost hate touchwiz so the change is not easy..

With a good built quality, camera are also good specially on outdoors but comparing in low light shot iphone camera is still on the top. Yeah the AT&T version right not cant be rooted but I have been following a few threads where people are working on it now but there is not ETA as to where the AT&T version will be rooted, I am also desperately needing root. I think there is also a thread where people are using AT&T service on a T-Mobile phone but there are some disadvantages I think, There should be a thread in the AT&T Note 4 section with all those concerns. But the T-Mobile version can be rooted. If you want a rooted phone and also great quality all around, I would say my next option would be the G3. Very easy to root and also has a great camera. I just couldn't get with LG interface over Android.

Yeah Touchwiz is what it is at this point. I also hate it with a passion but like I said with a few tweaks and I run Nova Launcher, it can be very smooth and right now I have no complaints. I cant speak of the Sony Z series as that is one series I have not yet played with or owned yet.

You are correct my friend, Even though in the beginning I was leery to switch away from the 6 Plus that was a great phone for me, The Note 4 just has too many features to pass up!
Gaming is good for me using my exynos variant
I switched to the Note 4 (Exynos) coming from an OPO. I wouldn't recommend the OPO since it has serious QA issues. My unit had this awful touchscreen issue which rendered the screen unusable when it got too hot. And it's a PITA to RMA it AFAIK.
I'm really liking the Note 4 a lot. Coming from stock or close to stock Android (I owned a Nexus 4 and 5 before the OPO), TouchWiz doesn't feel nearly as bloated as before. Everything is smooth and performance in games is top notch.
It feels great in the hand, the S Pen is quite handy, the screen is absolutely fantastic, the camera is great... My only complaint would be the rear facing speaker.
Samsung really won me over with the Note 4. Glad I picked this one up instead of the Nexus 6.

Simply put it's just the best device on the market right now. Nothing comes close to it. Go for it, you won't regret it like you did the iPhone
after deciding that the note series is the best phablet, you still have to choose between
Exynos Note4, Snapdragon Note4 or Note Edge
after using exynos note4 for sometime, I am considering switching to note edge for the cool curved screen. The feeling of curved glass on thumb is amazing.
I would suggest a in store hands on with the Note Edge first, than go read the exynos vs snapdragon thread on the note 4 if you dont like the Edge.
good luck
I bought The note 4 after long times of researching and I absloutely love it. I own The 6 plus as Well but I like The Note 4 more. I like carrying both operating systems in my pocket. I use the Note for work and taking pics and use 6 plus For chatting and connecting with friends
If you want to use the Gear VR - only Snapdragon runs smooth because of the better GPU

OK. The Galaxy S6 edge rocks.

(It's not the note 4 but I think it's relevant here; are you gonna get it?)
We're up and the hall is PACKED. Everyone is on their devices.

Relentless Innovation. We listened, we learned, we pushed forward. We rebuilt from the ground up. The most beautiful phone Samsung have ever produced and the most advanced one in the world.
The screens that go the ENTIRE way around the hall burst into life, aaaaand....
The pictures are exactly as leaked!
As has been the discussion all week, it's the curve that they're pushing - and yes, it's gorgeous. The detail is seamless.
It remains to be seen what they're going to do with the none-curved version.
The pricing will dictate whether or not the S6 flies off the shelf - and it's availability.
I think they should have released just the curve.
There you have it.
The curve is gorgeous. Absolutely. The detail is very precise. The plain S6 is plain ugly.
And the light-up notifications thing on the edge is tickling ALL the journalists.
Will you stick to the Note 4, or switch?
Let the games begin.

Regarding the S6, I don't feel the glass back and the camera sticking out as on the iPhone 6 and 6 plus...Also software wise it does look smoother but the size of the icons and the whole UI looks kinda ugly, especially the percentage bar, it's just too big...also non removable battery is a miss.
If only the note 4 would somewhat benefit from the S6's software
I think Ill stick.Note 4 has got looks but hey s6 looks like iphone 6 same rounded metal frame, same speaker style, same protruding volume buttons.Although s6 edge could be worthy to switch over but can be cleared only when they are available in stores.Except processor Note 4 has an upper hand

I really like the design they've chosen! I've always been jealous of iPhone smooth and clean designs, now there's a similar design from Samsung. No need to get iPhone knock-offs from China with android running.
But I'll still keep my Note 4.
- 5MP Front camera, not my thing, I don't care abt selfies and Note 4's 2MP 3.7MP (Edited) works well for video chat even at low light.
-No SD-Card slot... Bumper.. The choice for buying cheap128GB SD card to store media and easily transfering between devices has been a great advantage for Samsung phones, it will be missed
(Cuz 128 GB ver. Of S6 will be much more expensive than just getting basic 32GB + 128GB SD Card)
-Wireless charging, not an issue... I put in a wireless charging receiver pad and can use qi chargers to charge. No extra bulk.
-5.7" screen of Note 4 will be much better for viewing any media!
-S-Pen... Nuff Said.
However, these are the plus points of S6,
-Speaker at the bottom! Would prefer front facing but at least better than at the back...
- Touch finger print! I've no issues with Note 4's swiping sensor, been using wit great accuracy for months... But the new one might reduce the error rate.
- Double curves on display (S6 Edge)... Its just look smooth and sexy. Less awkward than Note 4 Edge.
-eMMC faster flash memory... Hopefully it'll be like changing from a tradiotinal hardisk to an SSD. With how Lollipop's ART runtime works (fully unpacked apps), S6 will be a beast.
-Exynos for all! Will be a great performer hopefully. Although, custom firmware will be lesser, snapdragon 810 on Note 4 is one of its draw backs. Hope the Exynos will not throttle its performance so much.
Sorry for the long post. Still great devices by Samsung.

I like it, but there is no s pen do I don't think it can replace my Note 4.
Definitely much more compelling than the s5 though, which made me yawn.
I'll stick with note 4 ofc.
But if they won't give that better touchwiz to note 4. I won't probably buy another Samsung phone again. limiting exynos 5433 to 32 bit another retarded thing too.

Lets not forget the battery is a smaller 2600mAh unit vs. 2800mAh in the S5, don't even dare give me the CPU is more efficient BS, once you get Facebook, Chrome and Instagram going all that stuff becomes typical marketing talk, and you realise the advantage of a much larger batt.

Waiting for note 5
You all know if the s6 is this good, the note 5 will be twice as good. I love the note 4 because it was a real upgrade from the note 3. Screen, CPu and Gpu. The s6, yes with 64bit with nothing that will use it, the note 5 will come out when there will be software that will use it.
The note 4 is my baby till it dies. I really do not see the need for another phone that will do nothing better on day to day activities.
More so, I really hope Samsung gives us the new tw unlike what they do normally. Which is they may upgrade Android versions but they rarely upgrade tw on older devices

It'd be great if they give us 5.0.2 with the new touchwiz but i doubt that will happen...
You never know, maybe that's one of the reasons for the lack of lollipop on the Note 4 so far (optimising TW)...I hope.
Happy the S6 looks good. Samsung has two ticks a year.
I always keep my phones for two years so I'll pass.
