Is the Note 4 the right phone for me? (last minute advice before I purchase) - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anybody give me any last-minute advice before I sell my iPhone 6 Plus for a Galaxy Note 4?
I'm not looking for any iOS vs Android arguments, but after switching between iOS and Android, I seem to prefer Android much more.
However, I want an Android phone with a top-notch camera and it seems like the Note 4 has the best (?) camera available. I have two little kids and often don't take my camera with me, so I want a phone with a very good camera and excellent video capability as well. (I probably take slightly more videos than I do pictures)
I also want something at least 5" or larger. I'm mostly used to the "large" iPhone 6 Plus size, so I don't think the Note 4 will be a problem.
My top phones I'm deciding between are: Note 4, OnePlus One, LG G3, Sony Xperia Z3, Galaxy S5, Moto X.
Price isn't a concern because I'll be selling my iPhone 6 Plus to recoup the costs.
EDIT: I am a little concerned about the higher resolution on the Note 4 slowing down some light gaming, or having scaling issues with games, etc...

I actually just switched from a 6 Plus to a Note 4 in the past two weeks and I havent really regretted doing so. I have also owned the OPO, G3, and S5 and to my liking the Note 4 overpowers all. Note 4 takes wonderful pictures as you already with OIS as well as great videos. Since I have had the device I haven't snapped a lot of videos but I know there wouldn't be an issue in that category when it comes down to it.
As for slowing down when you are gaming, idk much about that since I do zero gaming on my device. You going from the 6 Plus to the Note 4 will be a breeze since the Note 4 is easier to hold in hands, despite people saying that the edges are sharp on the Note but that doesnt affect me since I run a case on my Note 4.
If you are taking lots of videos and pictures then having that external memory is a plus already. I am running an 128GB sd card in my device which I know is overkill but its there if I need it. I can also store a few 4k videos up there if I really wanted to. I don't think you will be dissapointed with the switch to the Note 4. Yeah it was a stretch coming from how smooth iOS is and then going back to bloaty Touchwiz but TW has been optimized a little more and with a few tweaks it can be very smooth, I say hit some comparison videos up on YouTube and then make the decision.

Thanks so much for the information!
I'm still doing research, and is it true that the AT&T version has it's bootloader unlocked, but the T-Mobile is unlocked?
I'd like to stay with AT&T, so would there be a problem purchasing the T-Mobile version and activating it on AT&T?
Unfortunately one of the applications I use (ARUnchained) requires root access so I do want an Android phone that can be rooted...

I am also on the edge of buying note 4. I am actually using z3 right now and the reason I would be switching is the camera. It is not so good as it looks on the paper and the only reason why I would be changing.
Everything else I like a lot and I actually don't like Samsung as a brand and almost hate touchwiz so the change is not easy..

Yes! Just go for the note 4 mate that is a top notch android phone.. With a good built quality, camera are also good specially on outdoors but comparing in low light shot iphone camera is still on the top. Battery are great now with fast charging and ultrapower saving mode.. A lot of features and customization (cuz android) also the spen!
And those beautifully 2k display man you can never go wrong

Yeah the AT&T version right not cant be rooted but I have been following a few threads where people are working on it now but there is not ETA as to where the AT&T version will be rooted, I am also desperately needing root. I think there is also a thread where people are using AT&T service on a T-Mobile phone but there are some disadvantages I think, There should be a thread in the AT&T Note 4 section with all those concerns. But the T-Mobile version can be rooted. If you want a rooted phone and also great quality all around, I would say my next option would be the G3. Very easy to root and also has a great camera. I just couldn't get with LG interface over Android.

Yeah Touchwiz is what it is at this point. I also hate it with a passion but like I said with a few tweaks and I run Nova Launcher, it can be very smooth and right now I have no complaints. I cant speak of the Sony Z series as that is one series I have not yet played with or owned yet.

You are correct my friend, Even though in the beginning I was leery to switch away from the 6 Plus that was a great phone for me, The Note 4 just has too many features to pass up!

Gaming is good for me using my exynos variant

I switched to the Note 4 (Exynos) coming from an OPO. I wouldn't recommend the OPO since it has serious QA issues. My unit had this awful touchscreen issue which rendered the screen unusable when it got too hot. And it's a PITA to RMA it AFAIK.
I'm really liking the Note 4 a lot. Coming from stock or close to stock Android (I owned a Nexus 4 and 5 before the OPO), TouchWiz doesn't feel nearly as bloated as before. Everything is smooth and performance in games is top notch.
It feels great in the hand, the S Pen is quite handy, the screen is absolutely fantastic, the camera is great... My only complaint would be the rear facing speaker.
Samsung really won me over with the Note 4. Glad I picked this one up instead of the Nexus 6.

Simply put it's just the best device on the market right now. Nothing comes close to it. Go for it, you won't regret it like you did the iPhone

after deciding that the note series is the best phablet, you still have to choose between
Exynos Note4, Snapdragon Note4 or Note Edge
after using exynos note4 for sometime, I am considering switching to note edge for the cool curved screen. The feeling of curved glass on thumb is amazing.
I would suggest a in store hands on with the Note Edge first, than go read the exynos vs snapdragon thread on the note 4 if you dont like the Edge.
good luck

I bought The note 4 after long times of researching and I absloutely love it. I own The 6 plus as Well but I like The Note 4 more. I like carrying both operating systems in my pocket. I use the Note for work and taking pics and use 6 plus For chatting and connecting with friends

If you want to use the Gear VR - only Snapdragon runs smooth because of the better GPU

Nexus 4 or Note 2 and why?

Im currently looking at both and just want to hear pros and cons like signal and any other issues all comments are much appreciated.
I own a Note 2, and just ordered the N4 for my wife, so I cant comment on the N4 yet. However, I believe it boils down to a handful of differences between them. They are both very, very smooth, very fast phones, so take that out of the equation.
1) Bigger vs smaller screen. I like the Note 2's ginormous screen.
2) Touchwiz vs JB as Google intended. I personally dont mind TW, and can always throw Nova on it if I get tired of it.
3) Updates. Samsung will take way longer obviously than Google. If you MUST have the newest right now, its a no brainer.
4) If using TMo, the Note 2 allows for WIFI calling. May be helpful to you.
5) S-Pen. A bit of a novelty, but kind of useful.
You missed the most important point: tablet-class battery. To borrow a car analogy, there's no replacement for displacement.

True, forgot about that. I can abuse the hell out of it and get 4+ screen time. Use it gingerly and approach 8.
I've owned both phones and honestly the Note 2 is great choice if you don't mind touchwiz and the larger size.
Note Pros:
It's gets more than double the battery life of the Nexus 4.
Beautiful, larger screen.
Touchwiz extras (wifi calling, multi-window mode, spen, gestures, etc)
Note Cons:
Slower rom development.
A bit too big to use one handed comfortably.
More expensive.
Bloated.
Nexus Pros:
WAY sexier and feels WAY better in hand.
Better development.
Half the price (unlocked)
No carrier bloat.
Nexus Cons:
Battery life not great compared to the note 2.
Speaker not as good.
The stock android on the N4 is nice and the screen size of the note is awesome. I think im leaning to the Nexus because of the Dev support keeps a phone new. Hows the call quality of both?
i'm in the same boat...i already have the n4 but i'm underwhelmed by it coming from the galaxy nexus. i know with the nexus you get the updates but custom roms like cm10 will come along for the note2. another big advantage for the note2 is the expandable storage. otg doesn't even work for the n4
I prefer the N4 as a PHONE, but as a more media-consumption-driven device, the Note 2 would beat it. The N4 is easier in-pocket and in-hand. The Note 2 would be better for reading, video, content creation.
Obviously, I chose the N4 over a Note 2. I prefer the smaller screen (and it's by no means small IMO), the pure or easily customizable Android (I had a Samsung phone before, TouchWiz can eat it), and the ability to jump to essentially any GSM network.
I have both. Initially i preferred my note 2 but now im used to the n4 screen, i much prefer it. To me, the note 2 screen doesnt seem as crisp as n4 & whilst the note w is fast, the n4 seems alot snappier in everyday use for myself.
Obviously watching youtube etc is great on the note 2 due to the real estate of the screen & i find the s pen relly handy & samsung did a cracking job of touchwiz on this device but ive grown to prefer the n4 as my daily driver & the note 2 is going on ebay this weekend!
Hope it helps.
Arguably the two best phones on the market right now. Its always a personal choice cause we all like different things on our phones but major pros of both phones are:
For nexus 4,
PRICE!!!! Pentaband, pure android, no bloatware and you get updates soon as its available. On top of that development is always great on nexus devices. Also more "portable" than note 2, and better screen. Both perform well without any lag so performance is pretty much even.
For Note 2,
INCREDIBLE BATTERY LIFE! I can't emphasize it enough, it truly is something else, ive never seen a smartphone perform so well in that area. More features, S pen has amazing things like air view, more storage, bigger screen means better for media consumption (movies, games blah blah) but size can be a con for some however when you go purchase the note 2 the size is obvious so there's no excuse to complain about it when its so obvious.
Bottom line is both phones are great, but honestly in a long run, a Nexus ALWAYS has the edge because of the support it gets. If you're like me, that does not matter a bit cause I switch smart phones more often than I go to the movies (and its not a joke ).
The galaxy nexus is still relevant to this day, it just received android 4.2.1 while for example, the galaxy s 2 is slowly becoming a retired phone.

imho the Note is not a phone, I have had the first model just to use it as a digital block notes, and it's cool for that, but please don't think to use it as a phone becouse is heavy and huge, you could use it for some Emergency call, but not as a everyday phone...

I still on the fence on this i had the 1st note and the galaxy nexus both were great. I dont have LTE in my area with AT&T yet so thats not really an issue so can i use the N4 as a dumb phone on at&t.

N4 has a better CPU/GPU and can be operated 1 handed plus it's pure google and has on screen buttons.
but the note 2 has cool touchwhiz features but it's bloated and too big for 1 handed use.
I have an S3, but have considered switching to the N4, I just cant find the motivation though... will the Quad Core give me that much of a real world NOTICEABLE speed difference? and why does the N4 appear to have a yellow tint to its screen? I also worry about potential quality issues.

i believe that is temporary...just the glue drying - will go away in a week or so.
I came from an S3 and couldn't be happier. The phone does feel a bit faster than my S3 did. Battery life is about the same, the S3 might have been a little better. The only thing I miss about the S3 is the SD card slot, but Google music has me covered.

How is the screen size difference? is it real noticeable? and does Netflix, Youtube and videos in general Full Screen?
Is the Yellow Tint really just glue drying? that doesn't make much sense to me.
Between the 2 the Note 2 is easily a better phone. Being a media hog my self I love the huge screen and its beautiful. Also love the design.
Anybody having issues using the N4 on att non-smartphone plan can att tell the difference i really like not having to pay for another smartphone on my family plan.

[Q] Hard to decide between Note 3 and Nexus 5

Hi guys,
I am having some serious thoughts on what to get... Basically I am a software developer and I have a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S1 some ond Xperia and a Nexus 7. It is time for me to switch to a new device as my daily driver. The options I have are Galaxy Nexus 5 and the Note 3. The Note 3 is more expensive with around 150$ in my country, considering the type of contract I am getting. The phone will be used for at least one year.
Nexus 5: well, no review yet. Price is reasonable in my country and has the new 4.4. The new android version doesn't impress me. To be honest I find the google experience pretty boring but I have to admit I liked receiving fast updates on my Nexus.
Note 3: I have been reading around the forum for the last days. I saw that many have problems with the home button, the battery life, the screen issues. I like the s-pen features but I am not sure how much I'll use them.
What advice do you give me ? What should I get ?

i have galaxy note 3 but if i time returns i will choose nexus 5
Please mention your reasons. It would help me a lot. Thanks
I'm using note 3 at the moment and my nexus 5 is on its way to me, will give more accurate impression once received.
Features I prefer nexus 5 over note 3
Design look and feel (massive improvement)
No TW bloatware (another massive factor)
Easier to carry around
More regular software updates kat 4.4
No lag freezing (hopefully)
Features I will miss coming from note 3
camera not impressed at all (will miss that the most)
4k video recording
Battery life
S-pen (just a little)
Multi screens (what a feature)
Large screen
Ext memory
Have you encountered any problems with the Note 3 ? Does it lag ? Do you have that effect on low brightness for dark borders ? How does TW bloatware affect you ?
Battery wise note has 50%more juice. Home button issues - do you mean the button moving around? It is not a problem, people are too much complaining about tiny tiny things they should never find unless they read about it.
Camera - i think nexus5 is way better than n3. Its not the pixels that matter, or software options. Nexus 5 camera is next level, focus is about 10 times faster.
Bloatware yes, samsung puts 700mb of bloatware that you dont receive on nexus. Not sure if anything of that is usable. But cyanogenmod should arrive soon!
I wish note3 had the new camera and with optical stabilization, then it would be perfect!
As for 4.4 - its just a number. There will definitely arrive new android versions fast on the n3, just that you have to flash it yourself and void the warranty.

I like Nexus because:
- The design of the device and the appearance of the UI is more appealing to me. I like to keep things on my phone looking pretty "minimalistic" with few colors and lots and lots of black. I absolutely hate the Touchwiz cartoony look and I always change everything about it, the process starts immediately on first boot of the phone. Everything about Touchwiz looks awful - the icons, the menus, the choices in colors, those horrible big green quick settings toggles in the notification bar. Stock Android is much much better when it comes to looks. The Nexus 5 and its software looks like it's been designed by a design team made up of adults who actually make cohesive decisions together. Touchwiz looks to me like the school project of a pre-school class where everyone can add their favorite color and everyone gets to participate and add their touch to the design. Little Johnny wants a big blue, round icon there - OK let's put it right next to Jenny's rectangular pink icon there and add Lisa's green toggles! Fun for everybody.
I like Note 2/3 because:
- The battery is bigger. I've never been this satisfied with battery life.
- The screen is bigger. Honestly after using the Note 2, I cringe every time I use my iPhone 4 (I keep it as my spare phone) or my wife's Galaxy S III. The displays are so tiny, I don't think I could go back. Not even to a 5" display.
- I don't like the on screen nav buttons of stock Android. I want the physical menu, home and back buttons.
- The S-Pen. I'm not a heavy S-Pen user but it has really nice features on the Note 3. I use it much more with my Note 3 than I did with my Note 2.
- Memory card slot. Seriously. I could not live without one.
- Removable battery - not a big reason but nonetheless it is nice.
I hate the Note 2/3 because:
- I get to a point where I'm never satisfied with the ROM I use. New stuff is released on XDA and I feel this pressing need to try other ROMs. All the time. Sometimes it seems all I do with my phone is restoring backups. With the Nexus I think that I would be more easily able to just stick with one ROM.. Maybe even the stock ROM, just rooting it.
Don't listen to them
I just bought Note 3 after using Note 2 for couple of months
And go for Note 3 believe me this is the beast .. Note 3 Snap dragon
I am in the same boat as op.
I have a s2 now for 3 years and looking for an upgrade.
Minimum 5 inch screen, preferably a tad bigger.
Key feature should be office workability, due to a upcoming promotion as a project manager.
So I need info from all sorts of documents on the fly. Including excel.
Does the note provide this?
For free time I love playing games and viewing movies.
Help appreciated.

U may have to wait for few weeks to get the full hands on review about this. Nexus 5. The specs r good. But we don't know about battery life, camera performance, and heating issues. Note 3 is good in these areas.

I am planning on using the Note 3 with stock firmware from Samsung... because of warranty issues of knox trigger. This would also help on trying to reproduce bugs that appear on TouchWiz platform easier. So, having stock on Note3 sucks performance wise ?

Note 3 is far better then note 2 for sure but is it the best ow no. It's a beast but not the best.
If i didn't have the Note 3 already i would be pretty tempted to buy the Nexus 5. It's half the price, here, with great hardware, Kit Kat, Google updates, etc. But those touch buttons (why?) on the screen are a no no for me.
Thank you all for replies. After doing a lot of reading on the Buyers remorse thread I see that most of note3 users are happy. The only notable problems are: very weak audio output because of the small speaker, the pink effect around black edges on low brightness settings and the wobbly home button. Also I see that the battery isn't so great.
I am really thinking what to get, as I said, the difference would be around 150$ in price.
If I didn't have N3 already I would have the N5. I had N4 previously.
N3 has plus and minus points.
+ points
Battery Life - best I ever had
SD Card - installed 64GB,some users have install 128GB.
Big Screen - I like the screen some don't like AMOLED colors.
Fastest CPU & 3GB RAM
Multi Window & Pen Window
IrDA port - can control devices from my phone.
- points
Design - not very stylish
Build quality - my back cover already creaks only 1 month old. Others have experienced Home button and screen/multi touch issues
External Speakers - embarrassing from Samsung.
Samsung bloatware - unnecessary
Wireless Charging - not built in but @ extra cost

Costum ROM
why wouldn't you just wait on xda to get pure 4.4 android and install that ROM on your note 3 ?
Hi,
the Google Nexus 5 is indeed a very good phone. Having switched from Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note 3 I can basically give you good explanations.
The Galaxy Note 3 has plenty more features than the Google Nexus 4 abd 5 which is great.
I would say the Note 3 wins everywhere against the Nexus unless you tell me you prefer smaller screen. In my case, the screen size was the reasob why I moved.
On the otherside, yes there are a lot of Samsung apps and that sucks to me. The Galaxy Note 3 can be rooted easily, so you can easy remove those bloatwares which make me feel more confortable that way.
On the other hand, I do prefer the PURE Androis that the Google Nexus has to the TouchWiz by Samsung because it uses way less resources.
The perfect phone for me would be a Note 3 with a AOSP Rom. (CyanogenMod or Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) because it would give the pure android feeling which means higher battery life, no bloatwares, faster updates.
Ok guys, some N5 reviews have appeared and to be honest, things don't look that good in battery and camera departments. Actually that was kinda expected considering the 2300 mAh battery and 1080p screen.
Now back to note 3, all the small things that bothered me (wobbly home button, pinkish black borders, bloatware) are not important anymore. The things that worries me most is the screen burn in. I saw some reviews where this is mentioned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3mbkoXCMhs&feature=em-uploademail from 19 minute). I have own so far a Galaxy S1 and a Galaxy Nexus both having amoled screens. On my GNex sometimes I can see the keyboard shadow after using it, but I haven't really noticed any permanent retention as it goes off after a few seconds. I just did a quick check with blue color all over the screen and I can see a very faint shadow of the top bar, but nothing really noticeable. BUT, I use the phone on auto brightness and considering that Note 3 has the most bright amoled display built, I am afraid that it will suffer from permanent burn in because of blue pixels. Could anyone tell me if they have burn in ? This is a major drawback for me and might be the point which may convince me to give up on note3 in favor of N5.
Thanks all for your help. I really appreciate it.
For me it's so simple. They don't even belong to the same category.
Do you need/like the S-Pen features (and do you actually use them)? Do you need the bigger screen and the amazing Full HD @60fps video (let alone the 4K)?
If not then the Nexus 5 is a no brainer at this price point. Plain and simple.
Apps and bloatware are of no importance to me. I always remove them to my preference, to me flashing ROMs is an integral part of a smartphone like Note 3.
I agree with you, but if the screen has issues than all the other features are pointless, considering that the screen is the thing we see most.
It would be really great if owners could do some screen tests and return with the result.

Lollipop is the only reason

I was wondering How many people are buying nexus 6 because of lollipop? I for one am.
Imagine for a moment if Note 4 also came with pure lollipop with no crappy touchwiz which would you buy? I didn't think i would say this but i would buy note 4 and I hate samsung because of plastic and touchwiz.
Galaxy Note 4 hardware wise is far superior in almost every dept, better camera, LED notification, S Pen, better and brighter screen, better design, finger print, sd card.
Speakers would definetly go to Nexus 6 and bigger screen butnot better screen.
Biggest let down on note 4 TOUCHWIZ which is a complete put off.
I've been waiting for nexus 6 for a little while now and have bought Note 4 recently which actually is better then i expected and does look premium and if i was to remove the dreaded TOUCHWIZ it's a very appealing phone. Now i'm considering waiting for custom roms rather then buy nexus 6!!! Or can someone convince me otherwise, perhaps i've missed some nexus pro's.
Aosp roms on the note 3 were not reliable. I expect the same for the note 4.
I've never liked the samsung cameras... my s4 and note 3 had TERRIBLE autofocus. I also didn't like the way it processed pictures. For the most part, I want a decent camera but I dont need an amazing camera.
If software were the same, (no touchwiz), I still think the nexus 6 looks better, has dual front facing speakers, and a larger screen.

I'm getting one because of the development potential. Also it will be my first nexus (2nd Motorola). Currently am on LG G3. That will now go to the wife, since she loves the camera.

If software were the same, (no touchwiz), I still think the nexus 6 looks better, has dual front facing speakers, and a larger screen.

The camera autofocus works brilliantly on the note 4 much improved, it's probably the best phone camera out there. Better then iphone and xperia z3.
I would definitely buy a Note 4 if it didn't have TouchWiz. IMO, TouchWiz is very ugly, cluttered, and drags the performance down to an unacceptable level. I have used every Galaxy S and Note extensively, but I have not bought a phone from Samsung since the S2.

Fair point, LG G3 was one of the most fustrating phones i've had in recent years. Never say never but i won't be buying LG for sometime until the get rid of the ui. Smart move passing it on to your wife.:fingers-crossed:

interesting... maybe im just not a fan of the way samsung processes images but I understand the tech behind the AF system it uses so it should be reallly good. As much as it pains me to say, I have yet to see an android take better pictures than the equivalent iphone of the time.

Having owned iphone 6 plus inmho the camera on Note 4 is superior in most conditions.
I would've definitely bought a Note 4 if Samsung found a way to implement some of their features into Stock Android. They've done a great job with hardware now they need to focus on optimizing software. Samsung is supposedly starting over next year & I look forward to see what the Galaxy S 6 & Note 5 will bring
If you're on VZW there is a Dev edition note 4. I'm sure there will be AOSP Roms available for it soon.

Yes got to give the larger screen and better speakers to Nexus, however most reviewers are saying note 4 screen is sharper and brighter.
Lollipop is definitely the only reason not the phone hardware itself.

I hear you man, i think samsung need to otherwise they risk losing more customers.
Similar hw specs leave me hopeful for increased development and AOSP stability on Note 4.
I would get the N4 solely because the screen quality. It blew me away first time I saw it. Nothing, nothing comes close.
But can't do TW, no no no. That's how much I hate it.

I was thinking the same thing.
I like some features of TW. But it is overbearing and slows down the device. I was really torn between the two phones. I have always liked the bigger phones. When I heard the new Nexus device was going to be a phablet I was already sold. Love the support the nexus devices get from devs. That's what makes it worth it for me.

Gonna stick to Note 4
I like GalaxyS6Edge but i am going to stick to Note4 because SPen. By the way, SdCard and Removable battery are also my main reasons.
Sticking to S4 until I find a quality phone with MicroSD
Sent from my last Samsung device....
Micro SD card get the m9.
For 5years I had several htc devices back to touch HD and now m8. The point was I hated Samsung for their plastic devices and TouchWiz. Imo sense is way better.
But now with the s6 edge samsung has done everything I expected. Metal Frame and unbloated TouchWiz. So I will switch to the s6 cuz for me it has the more advantages then the m9. I will miss sense and the speakers, but I will get a fantastic camera and design.
Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
The only smartphones I have owned are the SG1 and 4. Contract is up at the end of the month so the 6E it is. Never had any issues with both phones.
from a Note 4
loving the premium build and specs on the s6 edge
Going to be coming from the G3.
Mainly for the green model and because the M9 is underwhelming. Also to have a new piece of tech to play with
Moving to the S6 Edge 128 from my HTC One XL (Evita) because it's just about time lol. Also my device now suffers from excessive random reboots and severe battery drain issues.
Small chance I might go with the HTC One M9, but I'm strongly leaning S6 Edge at this point.
My smartphone evolution: S3, Xperia ZL (only one week), S4, Oppo Find7a and last but not least Xperia Z3.
The S3 remains in my possession in case of loosing/destroying my current smartphone... it's a reserve. The Z3 is a really nice device but the camera isn't a point and shoot one.
After skipping the S5 (didn't like the backside) the S6 is a Samsung phone that attracted my attention again in spite of the glass back (Z3), the non removable battery (Z3) and the missing sd-slot (I lost many, many data because of a broken sd card!!!).
Perhaps Otterbox designs a water/dust/shockproof case for the S6...that would be great...waterproofing is a nice to have feature but it's nonessential.
Probably going to switch from a Note 4 because after having the iPhone 6 I always told myself my perfect phone would be Android running on the iPhone 6 hardware with the iPhone 6 camera... the GS6 looks to achieve that
Once I see what LG has in stock, I might move over from my G3. I have unlimited data on vzw so I'm not too concerned about storage and as long as the battery does well in the reviews, I might consider it since I do like the new look.
From note 3 because I want the fastest and best phone on the market aka s6. Also want to have a smaller phone (Higher PPI yeaaah)
Current device: note 3
Reasoning: really hoping to, but not switching mainly because of the lack of SD slot and removable battery. I love their choice of new materials, but not worth sacrificing the usefulness of those features (swap batteries often and like multiple SD cards for back up/romming/music/etc.). Additionally, I've always opted for snapdragon variants (although I am not opposed to exynos, but that real world performance remains to be seen in this case), and the extreme protrusion of the camera is a real turn off.
Coming from M8 after a really good two year journey with HTC... I have very high expectations for the S6.

you dont think its too expensive?
$699 for the 32gb regular s6 / $799 for the 32gb edge
or mind the locked bootloader?
im on the fence too. wanting a green S6 EDGE but ifk vzw is getting the green one

The price is definitely a concern to me since if I was going to get one, I would go with the 128GB model to get over the fact that I don't have an SD card anymore. Thank god I have a partner that allows me to buy stupidly pricey stuff every so often. As far as the locked boot loader, I would have to see how people are able to build out custom ROMS that run on Sense. Especially with the Edge model, I'm wondering if running on Sense might allow for the extra features on the phone to run better or at all. I always run Nova as my launcher so Touchwiz's interface would be running in the back instead of in my face all the time. On top of that, this would hardly be the first phone I've used that had a locked bootloader that the dev community has managed to get unlocked. We have some very talented people on this site that manage to do some very cool stuff. I remember in the early days of the M8, people were saying that we were doomed to get the device fully unlocked. Now, it's very easy to get that thing running fully unlocked. Plus, if we're super lucky, Samsung might release a developer edition with at least 64GB if not 128.

We aren't talking about the Note 4 camera. We are talking about the camera on the S6. This is going to be the best camera in a smart phone upon release. The iPhone will be a distant second. By the way, you might be the first person I've heard that has anything negative to say about the pics rom the Note 4. I personally don't have one, but everyone I know that has one thinks it blows the iPhone away.
Coming from a One plus one. Just sold it on swappa and also sold my moto 360 just in case the device is a little more expensive. all in all , have $800 to spend. Lookiing at the 64GB Edge version. hopefully its just 750 and I use the other 50 to get a case or something,
Why? well honestly, I wanted the iphone 6 design with android and samsung has accomplished this (not something to be proud of). Also because of the fingerprint scanner, the speed of the device, the smaller screen compared to my 1+1, and samsung pay. oh and the attention grabbing aspect of the 6 edge

Note 5 vs LG V10?

Soooo, I got a Trial Note 5 to play with, as I have had a Note 3, 4 in the past and other phones like the iPhone. But I also have a LG V10 I am trying too right now. For the life of me, I wanted to like the V10, but I am having a HARD time adjusting to the buttons on the back. It also has a bit of LAG to it where the Note 5 never shows it any more. My Note 4 definitely had lag.
Anyone else use a V10 to try and go back to the Note? I like the replaceable battery and SD Card 200gb.
Note 5 murder the v10 in terms of performance, screen quality and battery, V10 has higher quality audio, more video control micro SD and removable battery, the Note5 also got S Pen- it got many awesome features.
Take the V10 if- you need a phone NOW, it has to be with microSD and removable battery, and don't care about mid heavy 3D game performance, also V10 has locked bootloader and unlikely will be unlocked if G4 is any indication.
Take the Note 5 if- you need a phone NOW, you need the best performance, best screen, camera is slightly better than V10, though V10 has slight advantage in low light shots, you need more function from the phone aka S Pen features., if you care about instant root and unlocked bootloader too.
Wait after Feb 21, as Galaxy S7 and G5 will be announced, the GS7 will have it's micro SD back.

Well if u fixed on the Note then get it now, it won't likely go down in price, or go down slightly in price as Galaxy and Note series are aimed at different crowd.
Note main feature is the S-Pen, although i don't use it as much but when i do, it's totally helping me to achieve certain tasks, i also like how the Note looks.
S6 Edge plus is just curved from the edges, Android 6 should get it even better, more function would be possible by the edge strips.
All other they have the same SOC, edge might look for appealing but it's up to u.

y u quoting this? i answered before.
I had the Note5 when it released, and went to the V10 when it released. I am going back to the Note5.
The V10 has been a great phone. I can't begin to explain how nice it is to almost never have to plug in to charge - I always swap batteries instead. The camera on the V10 has a bit more fine-tuning, and much better low light potential, but in automatic point/shoot the Note5 seems to win in most camera comparisons. I also very rarely take pictures... even though the V10's camera was a huge selling point for me, I have no real use for it. Note5 will also outperform the V10, obviously. The audio quality on the Note5 certainly isn't poor, and I really don't notice the V10 being better with my $1,500 AKG K812 headphones, or $1,000 Shure SE846 IEMs - they're low impedance, so either phone drives them fine. The nice thing about the Note5 is having the built-in equalizer, whereas the V10 has none. The biggest selling point for the Note5 though, is the screen. OLED cannot be beat by an LCD. I have an LG OLED TV, and tried to buy a Samsung LCD for use elsewhere, but returned it - the quality is garbage compared to OLED. You're looking at the screen the whole time you're really using a phone - why not have the best screen possible? The lack of SD for Samsung kind of sucks because I have the 200GB card from the V10, but even with that, I have not used over 40GB counting internal storage as well, so the 64GB Note5 will be fine for me. I used to really think the S-pen was cool, but barely used that either. But it's still nice to have. I kind of wish the Note5 used on-screen buttons, but having that extra screen real-estate is nice.
Either phone is a great choice. As you can see I'm back and forth on certain points, haha. If the V10 had an OLED screen and better processor, I'd certainly stay with it. Kind of funny how LG dominates the OLED TV market, yet Samsung dominates the OLED phone display market.
I went from the Note 4 to a v10 mainly for the removable battery & SD. I had it for almost a month before trading it in for a note 5. Don't get me wrong- its a great phone, and at first I really loved it. But after a couple weeks I found myself growing more and more frustrated with it, mainly because of the awkward rear buttons and the bad battery life. The second battery I got from the promo was a necessity cause it simply would not last me the whole day even with battery-saving tweaks and a custom rom. The Samsung home button was still programmed into my muscle memory as well and I kept catching myself poking at the lower edge of the phone to turn it on. It was annoying to not have it there anymore. The fingerprint scanner rarely ever worked and I ended up just disabling it, which really sucked cause it was one of the features that drew me to it in the first place. I never realized how much I used the S-pen until it wasn't there anymore. I missed having hard buttons and found myself hating the stupid screen-shortening soft buttons. It's supposed to have the best camera on the market, but no matter what I did all my shots were either noisy or slightly blurry. I could go on, but you get it.
By the time I finally admitted to myself that there were more things I didn't like about it than things I did, it was too late to just return it and my only option was to do a jump upgrade to another phone. I didn't want to enter into another device payment for another note 4, so I grudgingly got a 64gb note 5 instead fully expecting to hate it, but ended up absolutely loving it. It's fast, I regularly end my days with 40% battery left, and I have full use of my whole screen again. Yes, no SD sucks but it forced me to finally go through all the crap I thought I needed to carry with me everywhere and found I didn't really need 2/3 of it. Got rid of about 25 gigs of music I haven't listened to in years, and rehomed my 128gb card in my tablet. I'm eating a bit of crow after all the crap I talked about the note 5 but I'm very, very happy with this phone.

I had G4 and while i played with the V10, they not that different, the v10 is better than G4 but not by that much. in fact, G4 is one of the worst phones i ever used, v10 is slightly above it.
If LG could make they own CPU that would rival 7420, unlocked bootloader without any drama and improve their LG UI and software, as i find the new touchwiz far better than lg, then they might tickle the Note 5, but seriously they both aimed at same yet different people, if u want best of the best of all except SD card and removable battery, you take the Note5.
If u mainly care about camera and sd card and battery to swap on the go, you go with V10, oh btw just recently LG recalled a lot of G4 that stuck in a bootloop because the connector inside are not well connected.
Funny you mention that... I find the current versions if TouchWiz much better than LG's skin too...
TouchWiz is to the point I kind of actually like it. I miss some of the features and layout when using my nexus devices. Never thought I would say that!

TouchWiz on MM is not that much different than it is on LP in terms of features. Though the beta we have isn't final so who knows exactly what is changed. I do like what I have seen so far in the MM beta though as it is even smoother than LP.

Both are great phones. LG has come a long ways.
I came from a note 5 to a G4, then a V10, and today, got some the note 5 again.
The note 5 is more polished then the V10. The V10 handed the Microsoft apps much better and the video was better. It was tough for me.

Amen. I talked so much crap about this phone, damning it as a failure because of no SD card, no ir, no removable battery, etc, but now that I have one I love it to death.
I had the V10 for a bit and thought I loved it, but the moment I picked up a Note 5 I knew I had to get one instead. I didn't have to think twice about ditching the V10, there is NO comparison when it comes to the Note 5. I have been a hardcore Samsung hater ever since the Galaxy S3 came out (The GS2 Epic 4G Touch is still one of my all time favs), but they completely won me back with the Note 5. It has literally changed the way I use my phone. I used to think I was a power user, but I didn't know how much of a power user I would become when I first got the Note, it has some seriously game changing features for me (notably split screen and everything the SPen allows). I rely far more on the capabilities of the Note 5 than on any device I have had before. The V10 is barely a memory anymore. The Note 5 is easily the greatest smartphone ever created, there is nothing else that comes close.
Ppl keep talking bout detouchwiz-ing note 5. I've tried nova launcher and Google now launcher and always found myself coming back to the touchwiz launcher. I can't live without the s planner (calender) widget, which didn't work which either launchers.
Been note 2, 3, 4 and 5 user. There is absolutely no lag on note 5. There is absolutely nothing wrong with touchwiz
Love my note 5 to bits!!
