Need assistence : fake or not ? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I am in the opportunity to swap my S4 with a Note 3, but the person claims this Note 3 is from Korea.
I am wondering if it's fake or not.
Screenshot he sent me : https://app.box.com/s/enjy529pg077nemwyc5j
It looks real, but I never heared about a Korean version (however Samsung is Korean, so it could very well be a normal version)
Can you guys tell if this is the real deal ?

Why would he want to swap (no offense) it unless something extra is in for him? It's like going from a super top of the range car to a phone that was top of the range 12 months ago...
Surely in Korea he (in a gadget filled world) be able to supply a picture of his phone in action, e.g. with him holding it and with a piece of paper with his email address and yours written on?

tell him to post the pic of benchmark of the phone took from camera from diffrent angle ..not screen shot

Sometimes people buy something and regret it within a few days.
And then they are looking for something simular, but smaller in size.
I have swapped phones many times and always had a very good deal out of it.
However one should always be very aware of fake (Chinese clones) phones.
And since the Chinese are getting better and better in cloning, it's sometimes really hard to see the difference.
I believe I have found the answer in the meantime myself : http://www.needrom.com/mobile/hdc-gt-n9000/
It's indeed a fake.....HDC GT-N9000 with a MTK6589 chipset
Let this post be a lesson to anyone who will get in the same position

Thats fake. The color is off and the battery percentage is a bit smaller than the original.
Also, I would want to see how cpu Z would read the specs of the device, and how it is going to perform under benchmarks.

The other hint should have been the size of the screenshot provided - the clones are not (yet) 1920x1080.

Also, the Samsung dialer codes don't work on the clones. That's a sure way to tell.

In the Play Store an app can be downloaded, called "Genuine Galaxy S4/Note3"
Download ; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hotdog.truth
Can be very usefull as well

It is unbelieveable that how they are coppying this phones !

Yup, Anything can be cloned to look the part, heck even the software clone itself is close enough until closer inspection. - Golden rule I guess in buying a second hand model.
Make sure you give it a really good test run, test the apps, have a look at the battery and insides to make sure that it says SAMSUNG (A few have SUMSANG believe it or not!) - As mentioned elsewhere, a genuine seller will have no objections to you looking over it. Oh and never ever buy blind - if you ain't seen it or felt it in your hand, it ain't worth the risk of a scam.

And real samsung Note3 is start with SM-N code not GT-N9000 like shown in your system info screenshot...

But for others who get in the same situation and want to know how to recognize a fake Note 3, maybe this post is very helpfull.

The one with the Samsung logo isn't the official Note 3 either. Could be a prerelease or whatever, but that is not what it should look like.
Update: when taking a closer look, I actually think it is the first of the Note series. All proportions, the speaker mesh and sensors seems to match that look.

Ya haha the top sensors are wrong, the bottoms too wide and button is too rectangular

Ahhh, It's always fun to see what can be done for <$200 these days.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iD8hcwzW1c
It's supposed to be as fast as the HTC One X according to one benchmark.
I think it's neat.

there is only one way to do the things right and have peace of mind, get your phones from carriers or authorized dealers, always the real thing, an always covered by warranty, in irder to save money, many get their phones anywhere, literally on the streets sometimes, but, at what cost later?, I have seen many post like, my home button is loose, have a smear on screen, the colors are horrible, the powee button doesnt work, the screen has a gap, etc, etc, all those problems get solved by warranty, that is why you pay the full price, peace of mind

I am pretty sure it's the real thing, although as in other post I can't get into bootloader, will hard reset etc as normal, I'm really pleased with the phone I just want to be able to re-flash.
Whats the verdict?
hi
seems original to me, not clone. hmmm just make sure real all the sticky, update ur spl uspl CIDunlock etc etc before - should be fine - flashing is never a problem for me since i have XDA II mini
You can see the green of the PCB beneath the battery: it's a clone.
Next to that: on the original, you can pop out the mirror by the camera (on the back cover), then an external antenna can be hooked there.
The external antenna is on a different place on this clone.
The camera is different
The loudspeaker is different.
Screws in the wrong places.
See the shiny bits next to the battery, it is in a gap and they are missing on yours (both gap and aluminium)
And many more telling differences.
So sorry: it's a clone
a real one:
..........
It's a clone! One more thing: seems that all original HTC are made in Taiwan, your, as can I see, is made in "China". I'm from Italy and both my Elfin and my Blackstone are made in Taiwan. I've seen also a my friend Elf clone and it is made in China too....
Hope this help
Yep -definitely a clone!
Got a legit touch today and can see the differences but I have to say the clone is a VERY close copy and I don't think I'd have known any difference if I hadn't tried to flash it.
Well happy with the new one though.
Anyone want to buy a clone???

Just love how you were using iphone to capture the photo.
yeah, thought that was a bit cheeky - have to admit that the iphone is the best phone i have owned - had it for 15 months now, normally keep a phone for 2 months max, sure it has a few bad points but what it does it does very well.
Loving the touch though..

Check the photos, if your external antenna connection looks like the photo in the OP it's a fake, if it looks like the photo I posted probably not.
But never seen a real elf(in) from china.
If you study the fake you'll see plenty of differences especially on the back (without batterycover)..

I have had windows mobile phones from an E200 to this touch so i am no stranger to these phones..
But this clone of mine had me fooled it is that good, the first thing that started me doubting it is the lack of bootloader and unable to flash, but when i got a real Touch alongside it -it is obvious it's a clone - the first thing is the weight - i'd say the clone is about a third lighter than a real one.
The good thing about it is i opened a paypal dispute and got most of money back and kept the phone.
Those clones are very convincing.
I only saw it right away because I had been playing with the mirror of the camera (which pops out on the real one to uncover the external antenna).
Only then I start looking and saw several differences..
I bet there are many people out there with a clone who really believe they have a real one.
And since the mayority doesn't upgrade their phones they will never notice the difference.
The bad thing about this story is that the clones aren't the best quality, and they will have serious problems, so the people who unknowingly bought a clone will blame HTC when their device fails..

I'm only supposing.... I said that all original HTC I have and I've seen are made in Taiwan and all 4 Elf clone I've seen, including my friend and now my brother ones, are "made in China". Maybe a coincidence, but it's strange....
Please excuse me for my english
hmmm, i am sure mine is legit seeing how I must have flashed about 100 roms to it already. Also, it looks identical the "real" Elf pictures and even has the pop out mirror. the only difference is that it says made in china on it. Maybe i can use this as an excuse to get a new phone just in case it is a clone lol
DAMN! Looks like i have been had too..
Visually its fine, but i have a problem with my newly purchased brick off ebay.
I can not get passed the blue & green "Windows Mobile" screen.
It just stays there. And a HARD RESET will not work for some reason. The confirmation screen wont even show up. Maybe they changed how that works in this copy version..
Can anyone help me bring this phone back? A hard reset or somthing?
I will pay £5 English pound through paypal to whoever gets my phone working again.
Thanks guys!
Jeez, look at the logo below the screen.
Even by this you can tell it's a fake.
Just incase anyone want to know, i was able to fix my clone version when it was hanging on the Windows Mobile screen.
You hold Volume up, camera, then insert pen into reset hole for 2 secs then you see briefly on screen a boot loader menu..
Im not sure if it hard resets automaticaly or if i had to quickly press the middle button. But it worked!
I had to calibrate the sytlus and thats it! Fresh version back again!
Some hope for us who have been conned!

The videos made me worry alot!, the phone is lagy and there's moment the phone freeze for a seconds!, too much like the last video in the 2nd part, just like 1st Galaxy.
I'm afraid if the bootloader is locked, that's will be the deal-breaker for me and i'm going to cancel my preorder.
any clarification.
Yup, the device is a prototype and not the final product therefore shouldnt be taken serious.
Even during the showcase in MWC the phone was laggy, but the devs need some challenges...
The SGS ii will probably be another unpolished diamond, like SGS.
I don't believe Samsung would do the mistake of locking the bootloader after the SGS success. They read XDA and they know what people think about Motorola.
As long as it's as hackable as the original SGS, I'll buy it.

Another unlolished diamond? Honestly, I think that the companies are alall stepping their game up and bringing more to the table.
With more emphasis on mobile computing, these companies know that they need to be better and faster at lreleasing new stuff. The Galaxy S 2 will be their flagship for a while anand if it goes to multiple carriers like tgr first, it will be great.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I agree with you, but when I said "another unpolished" I was refering to the SGS.
It was a great phone on arrival and it became even better after the devs/Samsung optimized everything.
That's why I'm not worried with the lag we see on SGS ii. It's not a market version and even if the market version is not polished, we're here to do it.
It would be great if the international version was adopted by at&t, creating a giant SGS ii community.
Now that Apple is moving its production from Samsung maybe their lag between announcement and market is reduced.
I don't think any of us here should be worried or concerned about lag on the SGS2.
Unlike the SGS which had the RFS as a filesystem, the SGS2 will not be adopting this.
At least that is what I have been informed.

Lol have you seen the backing? I know these arevall prototype builds so we shouldn't assume this isvlike the final build, but the back plastic was thinner and more flimsy than the back of the Atrix.
Now im sure the final product wont be like this, and they could have had that model for easy access to the battery and whatnot, but you never know.
Plastic is good -- better heat dissipation and less damage when your phone falls.

I agree; I always defend the Captivate's build; the plastic is somewhat flimsly but tthat allows it to take more drops due to it absorbing shocks and being lighter overall.
I've dropped mine from various heights many times and the screen is flawless; still works perfectly.

Matte plastic, and the protos still feature RFS file system.

Samsung Galaxy S2 w/ NFC Indian Version Quick Review (UPDATE: No NFC [for now])

Hey,
I finally got my SGS2 and its awesome!
https://picasaweb.google.com/tanmay.sonawane/SamsungGalaxyS2
I won't go into reviews and stuffs thats already been reviewed and said over 100 times.
I'll just jot down whatever the Indian version has different from its other brothers.
1. So apparently the Indian version ships with a Samsung Leather Case (as seen in the pic below among other standard accessories) :
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Rm_zEUrNlkE4djMA-JLVBg?feat=directlink
2. The Indian version seems to come pre-installed with the XWKE8 update. Correct me if wrong but afaik XWKE7 is the latest.

}
3. The NFC was so far the highlight feature but I'm still not able to find any mention of it anywhere. If our XDA Korean members can help me find out, that'd be great!
A test with an Application called ZDevice Test was unable to detect the presence of a NFC Chip.
4. Contrary to rumors I didn't find any 8Gb SD Card preinstalled.
5. No Music Hub.
I'll post more as and when I find any differences.
If you have any doubts of your own, feel free to ask! I'm prolly gonna be up all night
Cheers!
Edit:
I took a pic of the back. And I guess this is the NFC Sensor? Can anyone confirm this?
http://cl.ly/3Y2R080f3D0k1A392S0Q/NFC_.jpg
Edit 2:
Ok so I'm pretty sure (according to all comments) the Indian version DOES NOT have NFC. Samsung India gave us false dreams and broke our hearts!
Edit 3:
Ok I've done some initial tests with the battery and there are 2 scenarios:
1. (Yesterday) 1am to 10am (on Standby) : AirPlane Mode On : Battery Drain just 4% (from 60% to 56%)
2. (Today) 3am to 10am (on Standby) : Power Save Mode On : Battery Drain 26% (from 30% to 4%)
So inshort the Android System battery bug exists. Here's a screenshot of the battery tool for usage from 1pm June 3 to 10 am June 4 :
Edit 4 :
According to Letsbuy, the official retail partner for selling the SGS2 in India, NFC will be activated in the Future Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Letsbuy said:
Samsung India Update 04-Jun-2011: All the handsets purchased from Letsbuy.com on pre-order shall be equipped with ON board NFC chipset,Which shall be usable after upgrade of OS Android 3.0 honeycomb(Code name Ice Cream Sandwitch).(Future Update)

Well the credibility of this post is not yet known. Check out the above reply made here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14446675&postcount=2411
Edit 5 :
According to this article. NFC Sensor is embedded onto the body in SGS2 as opposed to the backpanel in Nexus S.
So we still might stand a chance with Indian SGS2's having NFC.

Do you see the yellow tinge on the left with a gray background and low brightness?
Edit: And congrats on being the first of us here to get the Indian version and making the rest of jealous
Yes there is a slight yellow tint when you check it with this page : http://fiddle.jshell.net/qFxsC/1/show/
Looks like this is a global issue and every SGS2 produced so far will have it.
But let me add that this is in no way a major issue.
With normal phone usage I bet it's impossible (if at all) to notice.
I assure you, any normal user, if not told about this yellow tint will not even come to know. Its that unnoticeable!
Thanks for the confirmation.
Was hoping against hope that they'd have fixed it in later production batches, however doesn't look like it.
Enjoy the phone!

Ohh well. Then I'm afraid the Indian version too doesn't have NFC.
Is not having NFC a big issue? Would those NFC stickers be inferior in any way?
BTW just to confirm, are there any other known differences in the version being sold in India (I9100) and elsewhere(I9101 and I9103 etc)? I am planning to get it here in India.
This thread and other websites seem to suggest NFC chip is the only difference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103256
BTW does anyone here have any feedback on the Indian mobile retail chain Univercell, they seem to have a pretty reasonable price (if along with a crappy website).

This is how NFC is embedded in Nexus S,
Does your SGS2 posses anything similar on the back cover?
P.S.
To read more about NFC and how it is attached in Nexus S & how it works, heres an article that might help you,

And, if you can't find this under settings -> Wireless & Network Settings, then we should get register a complaint against Samsung for cheating us,

hahaha, can't wait
They didn't mentioned anything like SGS3. Don't be surprised if it is named something like "The New Galaxy" lol.
Please don't make it 4.65" screen. Its too big!!!

who's getting on the train
I would like to see 4,3 inch screen.. ;p
Galaxy S z Tapatalk
A Resolution with 1280x720 with 4" is not necessary or? So i think it would be a 4,5" or above smartphone, it looks very funny at the ear . A 4" screen with the display of the sgs2 would be nice.

wouldn't mind a 5.3" but that's reserved for the note
Hmmm they say "come meet the new galaxy" is this the sgsIII or the new nexus either or I can't wait to get my hands on one... 4.6" is a lil excessive but as we can tell by the note here comes the year of the phablet.. even so I say bring it on!!!!

I hope Samsung will release also some info about support of Android versions for this model.
Many people are mad with them for SGS(+) and Ice Cream Sandwich
I don't really care what size the screen is or how many gigaflops it's millions of cores can produce, just don't make it look like crap or make it out of something that creaks if you even glance at it.
Truth is that I will not replace my i9000 to S3 until S3 will be made differently I mean like steel all around (including screen frame) with carbon fiber battery cover, if it is going to be better - it should be better in every single way not just specs. I use my i9000 like an egg and it already have scratches on frame close to usb input and back cover because of my nail. No scratches on screen but i have tiny little dot on glass i do not know how it got there. Samsung was going with galaxy series very well - time to make a quad core tank with lifetime usage possibilities.

and what i want is to charge it up while using HDMI or OTG with USB-hub or dock station, with NTFS 64GB microsd for files bigger than 4GB

So your main criterion for choosing a phone is how it looks?
I've been waiting for this... Will it be the one for real?
surely will have great spec, but just wondering if it's worth its size??? not sure if will replace my SGS (one) or simply buy a tablet to meet my need for internet browsing while on the move... and hope the battery will last for 24hrs of normal usage (two emails/calendars sync on, various apps, internet etc) without looking for power outlet mid-day. My SGS hardly last for one day on one charging...
You could fit a 4.6" screen on a phone around the size of the i9000 if you ditched hard keys and had the screen almost edge-to-edge. I won't buy a phone you need to wear on your belt.e
What's the story with new phones coming in at 4.6"+ displays?
I would think the original galaxy S at 4'' was superb fit for pocket and portability. Increase that to 320ppi with a superamoled HD display and voila we have new SGSIII.
I can't see why they going for such big displays. I even have the 4.3"" HD2 and that's the max I would see for a phone.
There will be disappointment and exhilaration with this release. Either way I am buying this regardless....
EDIT: I am hoping for Wolfson DAC in the audio output. It must have this dac..
See you all in the SGS3 forums on XDA

Not at all, we all know this thing is going to be a beast of a phone, so I have no worries about it's performance, but I want something that doesn't look like it was designed by an art student trying to be "edgy"
But it is getting to the point now where they will all be more powerful than any of us realistically need for the near future, so the look (OLED vs TFT is becoming more of a non-issue) is the only real thing that's going to differentiate them. I don't like the HTC aesthetic, it's just boring to me, Sony have gone all bling again and others like Motorola just seem to design their phones for corporate boardrooms.
Samsung just seem stuck trying to refine the "not iPhone" shape of the SGS 1 in Europe, and it's getting a little boring, time for something new. And it will probably save them a few quid if Apple can't keep suing them because of a physical home button.

Anyway, its cheap (~250$) and seems a tad better than my current GS3, just dk If i'll be able to use it in Israel if I ever get my hands on one of those. Im dying to upgrade but everything seems to suck, except maybe honor 6 in terms of specs vs price vs not being ugly (including small bezels) vs availability.
I kinda want to get the crystal just to go full hipster about it @ work/friends
SIM card? Unlocked? etc...
Hello everybody...
I am a big fun of Sharp cell phones... I am %00 sure about this... Sharp is the BEST... Forget the rest...
Anyway )) Is there anybody who knows if this phone has SIM card... And possible to find unlocked device etc...
Thanks a LOT!
Chances are that the Softbank version will have one since it is a GSM/WCDMA carrier. The only problem would be getting it unlocked.
Things are a bit murkier for the Sprint version. Sprint is a CDMA carrier and I don't believe many of their phones have GSM/WCDMA sim card slots. Or at least accessible SIM card slots.
My hopes are lying on the Crystal X coming. I would definitely opt back to Sprint for it.
I would buy this if its possible to use in the UK on the GSM networks, I dont even care about the 4G bands too much, so 3G seems to work great in my city without being too slow.
So lets all hope when its out, we can root and unlock the phone to use on other network's. (If supported base bands)
Not seen any development for Sharp phones, so not sure on their policies with bootloaders and security.
I've read the front covering for the display is only plastic. I wonder how easily that will scratch as opposed to something like gorilla glass.
I think that smartphone make by japan is wonderfull to use foe everry one . I like Aquos sharp
It seems like it has a removable back. Is it really? I searched for videos removing it but haven't found any. And if it is removable does it allow you to put any Sim or battery you want? Because those two are the only deal breakers for me. If it does allow for a plethora of batteries then the first I would do is buy one with extended capacity (2000 mah doesn't cut it), or at least a second battery as a backup. And, if it does allow you to swap Sim cards, maybe devs here would figure a way to allow for full gsm support as they did with other sprint phones.
If anyone will bring any more info on those two issues (no matter in what language may the info or video is posted) it would be really helpful.

I also have questions about that but didn't find a video. Might be because its either new and still not released, also I have questions about if it will work on UK 3g.
I love the design and have been jealous about the other sharp phones with minimal bezel that have been in japan for a long time.
I would really like to buy/import this phone but only if 3g will work on my carrier.

I've found this image but the Sim card slot is more than likely for 4G LTE on Sprint/Virgin/Boost
Hope we get a release date soon as I really want this phone on Virgin.
I read somewhere that the first one will be a 5" screen, the specs are kind of weak............but supposedly in December there will be a 5.5" screen version with better specs (ram, etc.).
i just bought this phone the other day and have really, really like it. i was wondering if any is rooting it so we have a little more control over what goes on it and what it can do. it's definitely high style and that's a plus!

I'm really hoping this phone gets root as well. It's amazing device but root access is definitely important to me for Foldermount and Wi-Fi Tether. Giving it's quality design and very affordable price, I'd say it's going to be a good seller for Boost and Virgin mobile. It looks better than the $600 S5 it's $149..

and that's what's so sad. a phone costing much more looks like an old LG. I think the Galaxy Alpha is supposed to change that but whatev. I really like this phone and it grows on me daily. no compliments an iPhone because EVERYONE (mainly older people that I've seen) has one and they all look the same. and the Galaxy S series never caught anyone's eye ever so there was nothing there with that. I never wanted my phone to say "look at me" but this one is so pretty and it seems everyone else thinks so as well if I judge by how many time people grab my hand in a store! it's a great design either way and worth every penny! and I think the performance is wonderful too!

you can kinda tell I really like this phone because I've had several since my XDA join date in 2010 and not ONE has made me post anything at all. i'm up to 3 already! lol good job, Sharp!!!!
People who had bought the japan version (305SH) like me without documentation, you can download the english doc version of 306SH :
