[Q] tf700 broke... replacement??? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys... im a frequent reader (not poster) of the forums and have a simple question. my mom broke my tf700 so i sent it in to squaretrade and the are reimbursing me $499.99 bc they can not fix it (first time using squaretrade and im very happy i insured it through them).
What should i replace it with? i loved the tf700 but i cant see myself spending $400ish on a devices thats a year and a half old.
i was thinking nexus 10 but the same problem as the tf700 comes into play... $400ish for a year old device. it would be a big disapointment to buy it and have the nexus 10.2 come out next month at CES. i understand that tech is always gettin better and ill always be waiting for the next upgrade and yada yada yada but a year old tablet at $400 is a little pushing it. The upside is that the device wouldnt need to be unlocked as it has the best rom on it (stock kitkat).
i was also thinking of the kindle fire hdx 8.9 bc that seems like the best bang for your buck at the moment. It has the newest and best hardware out and is getting great reviews. the only problem with the hdx is that the bootloader isnt unlocked and who knows if it will eventually be (i have faith but i dont wanna drop $400 soley on faith). if i get the hdx it is a must that it would have to be on a custom rom as i cant stand the mojito rom amazon uses.
so pretty much my question is what would you buy if you were on the market for a tablet today???
PS- what is you guys opinions on 7" tablets?? i think 10" is where the swet spot is but if you guys can persuade me otherwise.

I think the Nexus 10 will suit your needs. Seriously it is really good. Even after a year. Its still a high end tablet. Maybe you should wait till the end of the month to see if the new n10 will be announced/released. But to this day only rumours suggested it would come. Nothing in sight yet.
I personally hate 7" tablets. They are just phones that are too big and hij cant call with them. I mean: too big for a phone too small for a tablet. But thats just my opinion.
I own a Nexus 10 and love it. Especially with art. I really recommend it if you are searching for a 10" tablet.

thanks a lot for you input... i really appreciate it. any thoughts on the kindle???

Hi,
While I think that Kindle tablet is really interesting, if you want to see deeper development it isn't the best choice, as you said it probably won't have the bootloader unlocked, while on Nexus 10 you just type "fastboot oem unlock" and it's done haha! The tablet you had before is a 10" tablet, so I think you'll have a better time with another 10" tablet .
Also don't really worry about the tablet age, while everything new will appear almost every month, that doesn't mean the older are bad! I have a Xoom that mom broke the display, so I got Nexus 10, both are amazing devices, while Nexus 10 is way more powerful, I can still use my Xoom on HDMI with no problems . It's just a matter of adaptation, then you won't invest "useless money" if you understand what I mean .
In other words of my adaptation metaphor. Go for one tablet that is good enough and has a good development community, then you're assured that it will last a good long life hehe.

What about gtab 8.3?

thanks for all the feedback guys... i went for the kindle fire. Amazon extended the return period until jan 30 so i have just about 50 days to tinker with it and decide if shes a keeper. i was just stunned at the screen the kindle had. it simply is beautiful. the nexus 10 was the best android screen but i think the kindle now has the best tablet scrren in the world (ipad included). just hoping that the bootloader gets unlocked bc i dont know if i can stand this fire os crap. that is by far the only flaw i can think of on this bad boy, however, it is a big one!!

I was going to suggest the new TF701T or Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 as possibilities. If you're okay with Apple, the iPad Air looks nice and is the lightest 10" tablet out there now.

Is Asus Transformer Still a Good buy

Well guys i am planning to buy a Tablet with a 7" or 10" Display i am hung up on 3-4 Options
1) HP Touchpad
2) Asus Transformer
3) BlackBerry Playbook
4) Nook colour Or a Kindle Fire
My budget is not more than 400$ not a single penny more. Or should i just wait for the new release of the Asus Tablet which cost around 249$
Well, the nook and playbook aren't 10' , and the new transformer is also 7' so there's that. I think the Transformer and Playbook have a lot of Dev support, but I don't know to what extent for the Playbook. Take a look in their forum, see what kinds of Roms they have. I bet the Playbook will have CM9 before we do, but not by much. I love my Tranny, and I think you will too. I bought my 32 gb for 350, so shop around and get the best deal and then...buy the dock.

Well i am betting on MeMo to come out . And there is no support for playbook at XDA

for me, the decision was to wait for MeMo or get the transformer now. I got a transformer for a few reasons:
1. I would have been happy with a 7" screen, but I'm happier with a 10".
2. The MeMo will not have a keyboard dock (probably not at least).
3. Since the tegra2 devices have been on the market much longer than the tegra3 devices, the software and manufacturing are more mature and I don't want to be a beta tester for a new device.

Just got me a 101 with 32gb for $350 at Ebay, mint condition. The tab is perfect, all features work including a very fast gps lock. With Android 3.2 you're just one step to the Ice Cream Sandwich. I recommend the 101, everything works and the price just right. You will be pleased!
I wouldn't get any of the products you have listed. I would save up a bit longer and get the Prime (if you really need one soon) or wait until Q2 and pickup the TF701 (the 1920x1080 res one).
All of the products you listed (besides the Kindle / Nook) are at the EOL or completely done (Touchpad).
The Nook/Kindle are just under powered imo.
Don't get me wrong, all of the ones I've played with are nice devices. Just if I am spending a decent amount of money on something, I want it to be new and good for a while after I purchase it, not something that is already outdated.

So what can you say about the transformer is it outdated or still a good buy
Sent from my GT-S5670 using xda premium
You’re somewhat late buying a 101 for $400.
I was waiting for the Prime, until Black Friday came along. Brand new, you bet the 101 at $250 knocks it out of the ballpark. At $400 and with what’s looming, I’d wait.

Products become outdated only when it's no longer supported by the maker or new software is no longer available. The Transformer is not outdated, in fact over 99% of the apps out there will run on it, and Asus is about to provide an ICS update that will enhance its functionality. For your targeted budget I would consider the Transformer as the best buy among those in your list.
The other consideration is your own personal usage, what kind of programs are planning to run on your tablet? Most users want something with reader functions to read books, media entertainment like music and movies, children educational programs, internet browsing, video and audio chatting, newspapers and magazines, personal data managment like bills, records, checkbooks. The Transformer will do all these and more for you.
yes the tablet is a beast.
got mine for 270 on ebay mint condition and im loving it
rooted with custom rom. sucks i cant get a keyboard cheap
im a college student a keyboard is a must buy for me. for now i cant really buy anything since school is sucking up all my money
anyway you should buy it although the development for it is really slow. we still waiting for ICS( FFS Asus hurry the fudge up)
I think the Asus Transformer is still very much a relevant tablet. I just got mine from Tiger Direct for $299 on a Valentine's Special.
Right now the development and spec are growing exponentially and you will find yourself waiting just a little bit longer for the next version and never buy anything.
The TF101 is a very capable tablet that wi compatible with 99%+ of what is in the market right now. It is also one of the first tablets slated to receive ICS (March-2012).
My only thought here is that for $400 retail is a bit stiff knowing the prime is about $100 more. Shop around so that you don't pay full retail price. If you get a good deal, you will end up with a table that will satisfy your needs very well, and will probably cover your wants for a while too.
Get it and enjoy it!
I bought mine a few weeks ago. I did a ton of research on what's around at the moment and tossed around the idea of 7 inch vs 10 inch, looked into cost, read a ton of reviews. I couldn't justify anything as being a better deal than the Transformer w/ dock.
A few weeks later and I'm more than happy with my choice. It's a wonderful device.

But keep in mind it was slated to receive ICS in December-2011, then in January, then in February and now they say March. I wouldn't buy Transformer now unless it dropped in price. Better go for sth without Tegra, so you can watch any movie you want on the tablet. Avoid Blackberry too and all 1024x600 resolution tablets.
I bought my new 32GB TF101 last week when Best Buy had it on sale for $399 and I couldn't be happier. I wasn't going to take the chance on a Prime for $100 more (when you can actually find someone who has it in stock) with all of the reported issues. Especially in my case where I was trying to replace my Acer A500 that had really poor wifi signal strength so I didn't want to go from one bad one to another.
Sure the Prime is much better on paper, but with the list of issues that it has I am not so sure it is a great buy right now. If it was readily in stock it might be worth at least a chance because you could try exchanging it a couple times, but IMO it certainly isn't worth it when your only other option is to RMA it.

*lol* I looked for one. It seemed a few weeks ago there wasn't *any* in existance at any price. Right now I'm happy with the one I have - might upgrade next year, to this years model.
I got the 16 gig and tossed a 16 gig SD card I had lying around.
Well thanks for your input guys all I want from my tablet is Entertainment like games and movies nothing else. I have seen people saying that this tablet is a bit heavy and you cant carry it wherever you go so what's your say on this. And the most important factor is I live In india and the only store that ships it is Amazon I can't find any other option to buy from

If your question was : Will I enjoy using a TF101?

Will there be some other sexy tablet released in the near future that you'll want to buy ?
Most likely! but keep in mind that this will always be the case... There's always something new and exciting to wait for.

"$200 for the 8 GB model and $250 for 16 GB—that this thing is aiming squarely to extinguish the Fire, as is the big push Google is pressing on sucking up your favorite media"
"built by Asus, the Nexus holds a 1.3Ghz quad-core CPU, 12-core Tegra 3 processor, NFC, and 1 GB of RAM, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, and 8 hours of battery life—all with two different storage variants: 8 GB and 16 GB. That's a damn good level of muscle behind a 7-inch, 1280x800 screen, measuring 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm."
Why? Do you regret buying a device that has been out for almost a year? If so, you probably get buyer's remorse for every single item you've ever purchased. The tech world moves rather quickly. Rumor has it Amazon will reply with a KF2 by end of July. We'll see. Be happy that we're seeing cheaper and better devices. Don't be a cheapass.

no i meant to write more but hit finsih.
my girl got me the fire for v -day thinking she was being nice. i never actually wanted it. now this is out and if i change my fire for this i will have to listen to her whining because she doesnt understand tech
On the plus side, I'll begin Android 4.1 development the day the source is dropped by Google.
That's mid July.
Last I checked, the Nexus 7 will ship in about 2-3 weeks.
That's mid July.
So while the Kindle Fire will get blown away on any benchmark when compared to the Nexus 7... It may have Jelly Bean running on it right around the same time Nexus 7 owner's are getting them in their homes.

I was thinking the same thing and checked out CL and was stunned. Fire's are hemorrhaging on that site for as low as $75 used and $100 new/unopened. So I'm probably going to pass on this new toy from Google as nice as it is...
I'm pretty confident that besides Skype, there really isn't much I would do on that tablet than I can already do on the Fire (I don't use Bluetooth on it and I don't play games on it...so...).
Not saying my choice is the right one for everyone...but the extra $125 I would have to spend doesn't really justify it for me.

I agree, my KF does everything I want a tablet to do except for video chat, though I have my Rezound and laptop for that. Knowing Hash will have Jelly Bean for us about the same time the Nexus 7 is released is awesome. I'll probably upgrade from the KF after a full year of use (early January '13) but I'm in no rush.
I look at it this way, we already have something Nexus 7 buyers don't: a out 8 months use of a good solid Android tablet.

I just ran the chain fire benchmark and the sun spider browser benchmark on my fire running the sgt7 ROM. I came really close to their numbers for the Nexus, 1757 for spider and 11047 for chain.
It's clear that the linaro tweaks give a huge boost, and Google has probably incorporated those optimizations into jelly bean.

Do you have a mother, sister, brother, or even a father that might like this Kindle Fire? (Especially a mother, sister or other female family member.) You can explain to your girl that you really appreciate the thoughtfulness of her getting it for you but you've decide that you really want person XYZ to have it and you've got your eye on device ABC when it comes out. Of course some variation might be needed, but if you put enough thoughtfulness into how you explain it then your girl can hardly argue with you otherwise she'll look like a real *****.... but presentation is key.
What will Jelly Bean give us that we don't already have?

For us (Kindle Fire users)...probably not much.
Am I the only one who hates that the Nexus 7 is just an oversized phone?
Seeing as how the Fire handles ICS way better than my phone, I do not see a legitimate reason to switch to a Nexus 7.

[Q]Nexus 10? Also I'm sad.

Today is a sad day I had to return my Nexus 7. The screen was VERY unresponsive and i showed the employee at walmart after turning on the touch location indications in developer options I asked him to type something, he was like "my god this is horrible." lol the responsiveness was horrible so anyways he gave me all my money back and I had bought the last one therefore after having it for only about 1 month they had not received their next shipment so i'm nexus-7-less
Now, What are the odds of a nexus 10? The nexus 7, in my opinion can't be an ipad killer unless of course it was the same size. The nexus 10 would be ahead of apple in so many aspects it would be ridiculous.
Not sure if i ever mentioned this but i'm the only person in my entire family that has an android phone. The rest EXCEPT ONE are apple fanboys (not really including my mother on this one. She doesnt know what technology is with her prepaid phone lol) Ok so when i got it my brother (the one that is a fanboy) was like L0L UR SO GAY THE IP4D SH1TS ON TH4T l3RO!)*@$& But then my smart brother who has an iphone but isn't an apple fanfag (i mean fanboy ) So he called my brother a retard and said he doesn't know what hes talking about and this literally ****s on every apple device in existence and that if you look at the specs, the nexus definitely wins.
ANYWAYS wayyy off track there. So Nexus 10? Is it just a rumor or is that for real?
Noone knows at this point.. but it would be for sure, not only an iPad killed, but an Gallaxy Tab/Transformers Pad/etc Killer.
Only the Note 10.1 would survive thanks to his different category as tabled imho.

Well there will always be the next tablet.... but for me the 7in is just right. Haven't touched my prime since I got it.
7in is just perfect, not to big and not to small. It fits perfectly on my jeans back pockets :silly:

want a 10" tablet NOW? get an iPad3 (or iPad2 if your budget's not that high)
want a 10" tablet LATER?
well, just wait. You may get Nexus 10 as an option. Who knows.
But my crystal ball is saying "Google would be stupid to compete with iPad". It's too risky and they can't drive the price as low as N7. It's going to be a hard sell. Look at all the Transformers and Tab out there. Are they outselling iPads? Not by a long reach.

I don't see why not; they can treat it as an upgrade, just like the 16GB version, to the $199 that's the primary thrust of their advertising.
The transformers and tabs are still quite expensive, $400 or more. A N10 at $250 or even $300 could sell well. (I would guess 8GB/16GB versions or something.)
That said, there's no concrete data so far about any N10. Unfortunately.

It would be incredibly hard to out sell the iPad due to the customer loyalty and reputation they have compared to Android. Know any phone that has sold more than the iphone? Or a table that has sold any where near as much as the iPad? There's a reason they are bigger than Google and Microsoft put together

You also have too remember that Apple had a good 2 years headstart on android and only in the last year or two have the handsets really challenged the customer to think about changing.
Google pretty much has to release a Nexus 10 (or equivalent) now that Amazon has announced the 8.9" Kindle Fire. Otherwise they'll essentially be ceding the full-size Android tablet market to Amazon.
Personally not a fan of 10 inch tablets, but If they made a Nexus 10 then i would deff buy it. I was never really interested in tablets before but the n7 quickly changed my mind. Amazing specs, great price, and pure android.

7" is nice for portability but if you mainly just use it on the couch or something a 9" or 10" lets you do more, like view websites in landscape as you would on a desktop computer. It just feels less cramped and doesn't constrain you to the mobile view of websites so much. I'm hoping Google releases a Nexus 9 or Nexus 10 after seeing the new larger Kindle as well as the Nook HD+. $300 would be a great price, I'd probably even buy it for $350.
My point exactly

The only reason I dont have a Nexus 7 is that I am waiting on a Nexus 10" +. I now have a note for my phone/portable device. I want the larger size tablet for home use only. Add in sd capability and I'll be the first to order.

The s3 outsold the iPhone dude.... do some research. S3 was the most pre-order vice in history. No iPhone in history comes close to the amount of sales the s3 had.
I've got a 10" device, it's the Toshiba THRiVE AT100. It collects dust.
I literally ONLY use it for watching videos while I'm laying down, (It's always charging on the corner of my bed.) And when friends come over, they use it to play games and browse the internet.
I understand, it's a relatively forgotten device, It doesn't currently have a custom kernel for the ICS build, and it's pretty under powered.(2x1GHzTegra2)
But it's HUGE, besides the fact that it weighs around 1.3 pounds, it's just awkward. I would guess that anywhere around 75-90% of all apps are designed for 3.5' - 5' screens. There's just so much screen real estate that is almost never used on a large tablet like that.
I get that if Google made a 10" tablet, it could actually be good. But I'm not going to hold by breath.
Google doesn't make any tablets at all. The Nexus 7 is made by Asus marketed with a Google brand. My father has an Asus Transformer TF300 and it is pretty much what a 10 inch Nexus would be. It looks almost the same, it is running the same Tegra 3 processor, it is running the same vanilla Jellybean as it's stock OS. What exactly would you expect to get if they stamped it with Google's logo?

Price. It looks like the TF300T has come down a bit, but I'm pretty sure it started well over $400. I'm looking for $299, and given the $199 Nexus 7, I think Google could deliver it (maybe $349, I don't think they'd exceed that). Also a Nexus device is still going to offer a better guarantee of updates, as well as completely stock and no feature-creep (the OEMs love to bundle their own services and stores). The specs aren't totally there yet either. The TF300T is too low-res for its size (the new Nook HD 7" is higher res while being smaller), and the TF700T is better, but almost 500 bucks. Again, the new Nooks have it right: $299, 9", 1920 x 1280 res. We're getting there. There's no reason to think Google couldn't do a 9" Nexus device with the same res for the same price, just as they responded to the Kindle Fire with the Nexus 7.
I also think 10" can be a bit awkward, but ~9" like the new Nook HD+ might be perfect. 7" is just too small for a lot of websites and long-form tasks, especially if you're only ever using it on your couch.

My XOOM days are officially over. Almost makes me sad.

Yep, I got a Nexus 10, so I'm doing a little trade with XDAer cdromo90 for a little Nexus 7. He wants to give the XOOM to his nephew for a larger screen, and I will probably give the N7 to my nephew for his birthday in a couple of months (his mom got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and I think he's been bitten by the Android bug, so I want to make sure he gets off to a good start! )
As one of the very first people to own the very first Android tablet, I have to say it's been a great ride. I was one of the lucky ones who got a VZW 3G XOOM on day one at a discounted price ($200 off) due to a glitch in Motorola's system (You guys remember THAT? Ha! Still one of the best deals I've ever gotten hands down!). It was my first experience as an early adopter of any device, and I have to say it's been a great experience! To see Android tablets come from Honeycomb and grow up to Jellybean really made me appreciate being on the cutting edge. Not only has the XOOM gotten better with every Android update, but even to this day I feel like it's still good enough for a daily driver even with all of the new tablets coming out, not to mention I still think it's the best built, best looking tablet to this day (I love the N10, and a few other tablets have been ok looking, but the XOOM is just a marvelously well built piece of technology.) With custom Jelly Bean ROMS and the ability to overclock it, I felt like it still had a good amount of life left in it, and I'm happy to pass it along to someone who will still use and enjoy it instead of it sitting in my closet as a backup.
So, off I ride into the sunset. So long, XOOMers!
My old wifi Xoom
Team EOS is keeping my Xoom interesting with their Jellybean 4.2 nightlies. There still isn't much I can't do with this old tablet. And like you said it's still the best built and best looking tablet around .

I agree, but I jumped to the N10 when I began to doubt the Xoom would get 4G with JB 4.2. I'm glad I was wrong on that, but now I wpn't give up the incredible resolution on the N10.
The Xoom is definitely showing its age but its been pretty awesome to see its performance increase from 3.x to 4.0 to 4.1.
Enjoy the Nexus 10, I'm mildly jealous but I'm waiting for next year's nexus 10" and really hoping its built by Motorola.
Funny enough I can't see myself parting with my Xoom. It may overtaken by newer devices but it is a fine solid bit of kit and can just be retasked to other duties. I saw one being built into a car as a multimedia centre. There will always be a use for it until it dies

My XOOM is my baby and I'll never let her go. That is, unless, maybe Motorola decides to build a worthy successor. I refuse to say the Xyboard is even a thing.
I just sold my 4g Xoom for $225. I will surely miss it. I am sad tonight.
yep. i just leave my Xoom goodbye yesterday. I bought nexus 7 3g and I'm really happy. the top reasons to consider nexus 7 are: less hand fatigue, 100 % so portable, fast software update, good customer support( service centre just in front of my house), its an Asian product and cheap. reasons to dump Xoom: lack of software update, Motorola doesn't keep their promises, bulky, hand fatigue, not really portable, most of all, hard to play games especially when pressing button. so goodbye xoomers.

I thought about selling my Xoom when the nexus 10 came out. I decided to keep it and avoid the hassle of selling the Xoom. Also decided to buy a nexus 7. Really happy that I decided to keep the Xoom. I really like the fact that I have the LTE Verizon version. Also like the fact that it has a camera (and a pretty decent one at that) and HDMI out. It is starting to show is age a bit, but it's no doubt a well built quality device. I'm sure we'll never see key like pie, but Team EOS and CyanogenMod have kept the Xoom relevant with their hard work on 4.2. I'll be keeping mine for at least another year.

I'm tempted to purchase a new tablet but my xoom is just so well built and still works extremely well for my casual usage although its showing its age. I'm more tempted to buy a galaxy s4/note3 when they release then a new tablet though.

I love new gadgets and some of the new tablet screens look great but I haven't found anything I can't do on my old xoom. Getting itchy for a new toy/tool but will keep my xoom. I did give up on paying Verizon for data especially when they can't be bothered to update the software and support their customers. I will never buy another Verizon branded tablet. Many thanks to our developers for keeping my xoom up to speed.

I am on EOS4 build184on my WiFi Xoom and its running perfectly. I'm overclocked to 1600Mhz and its running smooth and fast. JB 4.2.1 is not meant to run on this old processor but Team EOS has managed to make my Xoom run like the best of tablets. I do have to mention the fact that I am using a 3rd party keyboard and Nova launcher to get past some of the shortcomings of this old hardware but I'm satisfied with it.

Nexus 7 versus Transformer Prime

I've had a Prime for a while, now, and I paid a lot of money for the thing. I thought a 10-ish inch tablet would be awesome, and I thought for sure I'd eventually buy the keyboard connector. Never bought the keyboard connector, and while I'm not unhappy with a 10" screen, after getting to hold and play around with the new Nexus 7 earlier today, I really started to feel like I might enjoy a smaller tablet better. Not to mention, I had high hopes the Prime would get good custom ROM support, and for the most part, it always seemed pretty lackluster in that regard.
Part of me REALLY wants to buy a new Nexus 7, but I've kinda been spending a lot of money, lately, so I feel like I should just not bother. There's also the fact that I feel bad about buying a new tablet when the other one I have (that I paid $400-500 for...) works just fine.
I dunno... Anyone think it's worth the trade-off, or should I stick with my Prime?

I went from a TFP to a N7 and I'm much happier. I use my tablet a lot for reading and the 7" form factor is so much nicer. I just bought a new N7 last night... I've thought about another 10" tablet, but the size is just unappealing now.
I'm kinda kicking myself, because we sell them where I work, and I was very much contemplating buying one last night, but I ultimately chose not to, to give it some thought. I go to work later today, but I have a feeling that by the time I get there, we'll be sold out.
I have a Transformer Infinity with dock and loving this new N7 tablet. Do I regret getting the infinity? No, it's had a year run on it and I'm sure I can still get a nice price on it.

Why not get the N7 and use it for 2 weeks. If you don't like it return it for a refund. If you do like it sell your prime to pay for the N7

Yeah, get the N7 (I had the Prime and Infinity last year) Unless you are waiting for the 2013 Transformer Pad Infinity (10", Tegra 4, 2560x1600) that will be a $400-500 2013 release tablet. Asus fixed the slow memory and the WIFI/GPS connection issues that plagued that tablet. The screen is bright and at the levels that only the Prime was doing 1.5 years ago and at a higher resolution.

Heh, because I know I won't want to return it, lol.
Anyway, nah, I'm not holding out for a new Transformer series tablet, or anything, but since I paid $400-500 for my Prime, I wanted to be strict with myself and say "Okay, keep this tablet for the next 3-4 years at least". But I'm so weak and constantly tempted by new gadgets! @[email protected] lol
While basically they perform the same functions, they each have their own niche to fill. With that said buy the 7 if you find it doesn't do anything that your other one does besides weigh less and offer a smaller viewing experience then return it/sell it. If you find you like using it more, sell the prime.

Yeah, for a while I thought the 7 inch form factor was dumb. Then the original nexus 7 came out and I thought, what the heck, I'll try it for that price. Ended up loving it and using it as my daily driver for both work and home.
I've owned only 10 inchers previously....archos 101 back in 2010, og transformer, even an iPad 3 that work gave me. The n7 form factor meant I could tote it around much more easily, even put it in a slacks pocket in a pinch. The new one is even better because of its thinness, not to mention the screen.
The back camera is great too...people say it's silly but I use it at work all the time....to scan paper people hand me in meetings (I don't print crap any more...hardly even bring a pen to a meeting) or to snap a pic of a whiteboard.

I bought the Transformer Infinity with the keyboard before. I used it for a few months and sold it through craigslist. End up I bought an ASUS X202E for productivity. The Transformer Infinity really disappointed me. I/O issue, quality issue, FW issue, etc.
Providing that the Transformer Infinity is very close to the vanilla Android, I would rather get a Nexus so that I can have fast update. I also feel a 10.1" tablet is a bit burden for me. End up buying the new Nexus 7 now. I am extremely happy with that.
In my own opinion, Android tablet doesn't really need a keyboard. If I am not getting a keyboard, I will not get the Transformer series.
