The Lenovo Lynx is not exactly a hot-selling item worldwide, and so naturally there is not much discussion on this Windows 8 tablet on these or other forums.
There are however a few threads on XDA about one or other issue relating to the Lynx, so I thought of creating a thread where all of us could come together and share problems, solutions and tips.
I'll start off with some useful links:

You should already have done the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 (if it didn't come preinstalled) For those who did not do the upgrade, here are a few useful links after you do the upgrade from the Windows store.

It's not that old... January 2013 release date

I've had mine about 3 weeks and I'm starting to notice a screen burn effect around the edges of the screen. Particularly after using an app with a lot of white.
Anybody else have that issue?

Tested my unit, can't find any screen burn or bleeding. Have you tried updating your video driver? Does the display have any other problems (jagged lines while switching apps, screen going blank, 'Video driver stopped working and has recovered' message popups etc?
I did have that last problem after I upgraded to 8.1, but it seems to have resolved itself after a Windows Update.

I actually have tried 4 different versions of the display driver. I've used 1099, 1177, 1160, and 1130. 1130 is the only one that doesn't give me the "driver stopped working" message. What driver version are you using? And could you list what Windows updates you have installed?
No jagged lines at all. No blank screen.

I ordered a Refurb from Newegg for $239 yesterday, it should be here by Friday, I'm really looking forward to turning it on for the first time.
I love Android but only on my phone, Never liked it on tablets.. was always left disappointed.
I searched for awhile and couldn't find a dock for it, the only place I found was on amazon and it's "Currently unavailable".
I was hoping to find one on ebay for a decent price, I might go with a Bluetooth Keyboard + Leather Case from ebay.

Congrats on your purchase. If I were you I would try and find the lynx dock for it... you get an additional battery (it adds 4-5 hours easy) two full-size USB ports, and a trackpad (trackpad is kinda jumpy, though), and you can easily work with the docked tablet in your lap, or tilt the screen at any angle you like.
Getting a keyboard folio won't have all these conveniences.
Do let us know all your impressions of your new tablet.

I usually can find almost anything i search for, it's crazy that i can't find the freaking dock for the lynx.
I might have to just get the BT Keyboard and a 12000mAh External Battery Pack.

Mumbai's cool.

I just installed a 64gb SD card. It works ok.
And I question. My biggest problem with Lenovo lynx in win 8.1 is still the same: I want to do some things with the screen off. But every time I shut the screen off everything stops. Any help on this? Thanks.

Have you tried this:
Go to Control Panel>Power Options>Change Advanced Power Settings and change value for Turn off Display = After 1 min.
Check if after that 1 min, does only the display go off or the PC goes to sleep?
Also change the values for Lid close action = Do nothing

Yes. Nothing of those settings works if cpu is clovertrail. Always go to sleep.

I love this tablet, newegg sent me one with a broken left speaker though, and I am trying to get it replaced, but seems like it will be a hassle.
My messages to newegg on ebay so far ...
Dear *****,
Thank you for contacting Newegg. We apologize for the delay in response time due to the enormous order volume from Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Holiday's. We answer emails in the order that they are received. If your inquiry has already been resolved, please do not reply to this email. If you have sent us multiple inquires and we have already replied, please only respond to us one time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I apologize to hear this, and would be glad to assist you with your return. This is a non-refundable item, so I will be able to help you return this item and have a replacement order sent out. I just need a little more information first. 1. Do you still have the original packaging and any accessory that was originally included? 2. Can you please give a detailed reason for the return?
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. We'll be more than glad to assist you. Until then, thank you for contacting Newegg. Have an EGGcellent day!

I do not understand your statement "original system", what are you referring to?

I hope they aren't trying to say i can't RMA because i upgraded it to 8.1 before i realized the **** had a broken speaker and defective charger.
But if i can't RMA, hopefully it's just the speaker that is broken and not the board, maybe if i could find a replacement speaker I'd just replace the broken speaker myself. But i get the sense that even with both speakers working the sound on this tablet will still be low, and i've read as much

I think the only option is to use metro apps. From reports on other forums it seems as if metro apps can keep clovertrail tabs awake even when the display is off, but legacy windows apps cannot. So if whatever you are doing (downloading, rendering, transferring etc) can be done with a metro app from windows store, that could be a solution.

I don't think having upgraded to 8.1 should be a problem. It is after all an official upgrade of the preinstalled OS.
Here in India, when I called up the service station with a battery problem (my dock battery was not working) the customer care guys kept trying to tell me to 'take the battery out and put it back in!'
The Lynx is such a rare item that none of those customer service execs had been trained for it!
I eventually had to visit a service station personally to get the dock battery replaced (when that did not fix the problem they replaced the circuit board as well).
But you should get them to replace the speaker and charger. Like in my case, the problem could be with the board.

I am not going to rma it over the broken speaker, Pay to ship it back to them and probably wait a month to get the replacement.. and the sound probably will still be low.
From the reviews i read the sound isn't that loud or good even with both speakers.
Newegg really sucks, it's been years since i bought anything from newegg but i never had problems like this with them before. I feel like i'm talking to a chat bot or something, actually a chat bot probably would be better to deal with.

You're right. Well, if you are planning to replace the speakers yourself, do post a detailed WIP here so we can all benefit. You might have to get the actual speakers from some other device and somehow get them to fit in the slots inside the Lynx.
Though since you're looking for a bluetooth keyboard anyway, you can get one which has built-in speakers.
Or even something like this:

[INFO] So far, I am impressed - I think ASUS has a potential winner, here

Early feelings, keep in mind -- I've only used the device for a few hours.
- IPS screen is wonderful. Beats out the Xoom and it's the first thing I tested. I don't have an iPad(2) to compare it with, but if my R10 is any indication the screen is probably similar to an iPad, at least the screen angles and color balance. Yellows are yellow, not a bluish yellow.
- 16:10 screen is the best screen for comics. Yep, I'm all about comics. Superior to an 4:3 screen (sorry Apple).
- microSD card actually works. Moto, you reading this?
- ASUS Reader supports epub. Drop them into the ebooks folder, and they "just work" (assuming no DRM, of course). Give me a night mode and this would easily replace Aldiko for me (and if there is a night mode, I just haven't found it yet).
- When you force Portrait mode, the power button is on the top. They got that right, they could have just as easily screwed that up, but they didn't. And I like the power button on top vs. in the back (Xoom).
- Speakers sound good, and are not in the back.
- It's aesthetically pleasing. I like the ridges on the back and the edges. And brown is almost a welcome change in a world of black and white. It LOOKS good.
- It's US $400 for the 16GB device. That's the most important thing of all. Remember, the Viewsonic GTablet was $400 until recently and that doesn't have a GPS, an IPS screen, a 1280x800 screen, 1GB of RAM or Honeycomb support (although it does have 32GB onboard). And the 32GB Wifi Xoom is $600. I think some of these tablet makers will need to take a long hard look at their price points as ASUS is about to alter the tablet market.
Is it perfect? Nope. I hate the proprietary cable, the lack of a real AC adapter for charging, the lack of a full USB port on the tablet itself, the problematic video playback (so far), and of course Honeycomb itself needs some work. And, unlike an iPad or even a Xoom, accessories are non-existent right now and even the dock and the device itself is as hard to find as an iPad2, right now. But, time should correct at least some of these things. I think this thing is going to fly off the shelves and today's insanity was just a taste of things to come - assuming some major defect doesn't manifest itself, of course.
I don't trust a lot of people but I trust Roebeet.
I'll be mainly using my TF to read comics as well, so the 16:9 screen seems like a winner.
Robebeet, can you post some more screenshots of internal comic pages on the device? Also does it take a long time for the pages to load or to turn the pages?
I totally disagree!!!
Well, until I get my hands on one, and then I'll get back to you. LOL. For now I'm just enjoying the Xoom, and poking with the Gtab.
We'll see...

16:10 not 9. Just didn't want people confused. I think 16:10 is going to be better when using thumb keyboard of swiftkey beta for tablets.
Great job!
One question, does it have backlight bleeding problems?
Thanks!
Thanks for the information dude, glad you got yours.
Question:
The MyLibrary app, when its in landscape mode, does it auto double-page (like a book) or you can select single page (zoom in, etc. while in landscape)?
Roebeet,
Are you the guy who did custom ROMs for the NI ADAM? If so, do you think a different ROM would allow playback of high profile video, or are we doomed to forever have to convert them beforehand?
Thanks!
PS- I love the ASUS too. I sold my ADAM (ah, dear of PQi screen) and my iPad 1. The only thing I'm missing is AirVideo frankly.

Normally I loathe proprietary cables as well, but I don't think you can knock them for this since it charges at a higher voltage than standard USB can accommodate.
That said... I think Asus would have a winner if the rest of us could actually get out hands on one.
How is the gps? I'm thinking of selling my xoom for the transformer if it matches the xoom wifi's gps strength or better.

The Xoom is not a bad device - but I didn't like some of the design choices and, at $600 for the 32GB Wifi, it's about to be overpriced. I think Moto is going to need to drop that by at least $50, very soon

The GTAB , Adam and Xoom have a separate AC port. So, I can charge it and connect it to my PC at the same time, with the USB cable. You can't do that with this tablet - you'd need the dock to do that.
It becomes annoying very quickly as you have to basically put the device aside and charge it. It basically forces me to buy the (non-existent so far) keyboard dock.

Correct. The GTAB is 16:9 and is too long for comics. And 4:3 (iPad, and my R10) is too wide. 16:10 is the sweet spot for comics reading.

It auto double pages - I don't see an option to change it (that's one bad thing about the app - very few options. I just wish it had a night mode. But it is FAST).

I got mine yesterday... Very pleased so far.
1st, the screen is awesome. Absolutely destroys the Xoom and Galaxy Tab. The iPad screen might be a little better, but not much. It's lighter than I expected, and the build quality seems really good to me. I know some reviews commented on it, but just think Asus netbook quality.
When I first started the device it already had an update. Not sure what it fixed. Very speedy using the web browser. Tried a few apps, then downloaded the game Samurai II which I had seen in some Honeycomb YouTube videos. Signed up for the Amazon App Store. Much nicer than the Marketplace, although it is a lot better than when I used it about a year back.
So far I'm really liking Honeycomb. I think this tablet is totally worth the $400. Can't wait until I get my hand on the dock. I put in a 16gb microsd and it works perfect. Also really happy there was 12gb+ free on the device from the start...
EDIT: Very disappointed Zinio isn't available on Android yet. I thought I read it was.

I purchased a USB 3 Cable that has the correct amount of pins needed to be used as an extension cable (Male to Female) with the Asus charger, so with a 2 meter cable i can now sit on the sofa with it plugged into the charger to get full charge whilst using the transformer.
Saves having to put it down close to a power point to charge it with the silly short cable that it came with.

I think we need a Tegra 3 for that. All these T2 devices are going to have this same problem, I think.
Hi-Def video is not high on my list of needs, so it doesn't bother me too much. If XVid AVI's work, then I'm fairly happy. But I would like to see it work, regardless. WMV's, for example, are broken - I believe the Xoom is the same. And I bet WMA's are broken too, just like the Xoom.

I think the Xoom's is better, but I have to test it more. I'm in my "man cave" and the Xoom GPS actually worked there. Not so on the Transformer. It also likes to eat battery life so I actually turned it off, for now.
EDIT: I went upstairs and it STILL doesn't work. I have this same issue with the Adam, but the Xoom is definitely better. The compass works, though.
Keep in mind that it may take 10-20 minutes for a new GPS to get it's initial fix and download the satellite ephemeris data, assuming a good signal. Once it has that, subsequent fixes will be a whole lot faster, unless it has been months since you turned it on and the data is too out of date.
I'm finding the GPS on the TF to be good, it works in my basement for example, where my LG Optimus will not lock on. I can't compare to the Xoom though.
I haven't been able to get my hands on this device yet. From what I can tell Asus sent out 60 total to retailers in Canada, so the odds were not good.
I am glad to see that Roebeet's on board. He's the reason I bought and enjoyed my Gtab. I'm also a big comic reader and have about 11,000 digital comics just waiting to be read on my TF, when and if I can get one.

Reading cbr's/cbz's on this thing versus the GTAB is like night and day. The GTAB used to give me a headache. I really am an IPS convert - I want to see the yellowing of the pages. Of course, I expect that when there's a 10 inch OLED or color eInk device in two years, I'll port over to that. But right now IPS is king.
Now just get me an Android device that has "smell-o-vision" so I can get that new comic smell, and I'll be all set.
Download Twonky. It is completely free, and with a strong wifi signal, streams content to Apple TV without problem.

[Q] Is the imbalance between left and right speakers a software issue?

I just got my replacement 32GB today and everything's great. Minimal light bleed, no flexing. The problem with the left and right channel not balancing still exists though. Just wondering if ASUS confirmed this as a software issue or hardware issue.
Sent from my Transformer TF101

Mine is perfect
Yeah, using a clip made from Audacity to test left and right speaker results in the right one sounding audiably louder than the left.

Unfortunately I think it might be a hardware issue. It could be solved easily with some sort of software audio balance though.

Does the volume imbalance extend to the headphone jack or is it exclusively with the TF speakers? I have not seen this mentioned in the various threads on audio imbalance. This may indicate whether the issue is hardware or software based.

Unfortunately, this would make it more likely to be a hardware issue.
Netbook speakers *always* suck, so not too big of an issue to me. I'm sure someone will release a software hack to work around it.
I tend to think it is a hardware issue. The 1st TF i got had the speaker imbalance issue, and the second one didn't have it. But, unfortunately, one of the speaker on my second TF completely died.

I believe it's a software issue. Mine was pretty much the first that asus knew about that had this issue. They rma'ed mine for me and cross shipped one. But before I sent it back there was a firmware update and I tested the sound right before I put it in the box to send it back. It seemed to be balanced. I'm a musician and have a very sensitive ear. So when I heard it balanced I was surprised. At first even the tech in cali thought it could have been a HW issue but I told him after I updated to the .13 firmware my speakers were balanced. I now just got my 32gb. Upgraded it to prime that has the .13 update and my speakers are unbalanced. So it's odd. My 16gb with FW .9 and .12 the balance was off.. When I upgraded to the official .13 seemed to correct it. But with my 32gb the .13 fw(not official but prime) didnt fix it..
Let's just hope it is some software bug. Hardware issue with speakers would mean ASUS put reallllllllly cheap speakers in (as if they're not cheap already)

It is software.. trust me. The first time I played music I heard it right away.. then I swore it was a Hardware issue... Even Hai at asus thought it could have been a bad batch.. but Right before I sent it back after upgrading to .13 OTA The sound was fine. I really was shocked. It was even in both speakers.. Just not sure why it didnt work on my 32gb. Although when I got my 32gb it was on .9 and I didnt get a notification that .13 was available.( the only difference is the .13 on my 16gb was offical OTA and the .13 on my 32 is from prime
Both my 16 GB transformers have unbalanced speaker output, with the right playing louder than the left.

You do not know that it is a software issue, and you should not tell others it is software. This is how misinformation is spread. You BELIEVE it is software.

Their servers were having problems for the longest time, no one was able to update past .9.

I do know, because I have been in constant contact with Asus. See my thread about collecting people's biggest issues so I could report them directly to the main asus tech (something he asked me to do). As I stated, when I first got my 16gb I noticed the issue right away. I noticed it on the .9 firmware(what my 16gb got shipped with) the .12 firmware(which I was one of the beta testers for asus) and when I got the OTA notification about .13 I installed it. I did my testing after that was installed and the balance was all of a sudden corrected. I did numerous tests the youtube test, playing music, movies and the sound was balanced. Sorry, I'm not misinformed. Ask anyone on this forum who knows me about my creditability. Ask anyone of the devs, they are all my buds. I'm not some noob that's taking stabs in the dark.
So if it was a HW issue I think it's funny that it all of a sudden started working after I updated to the official .13 firmware. I too thought it was HW related until I heard it for myself that it was corrected. oh wait.. here.. let me get something for you.. since I'm so misinformed
"Dear Patrick,
Thank you for the list of symptoms. I know sleep of death can be addressed with a firmware update. Video playback for codec compatibility may be addressed with the 3.1 Android which we have an ETA of June. But for now that is something that I have already reported for HQ. But it may be ultimately Google that would have to address that in an OS update.
Screen bleed per my prior email we will address in general once I get the new units allocated.
The speaker sounds issue may also be a firmware update that we will release to end users shortly might address.
Thanks,

Now after this email is when I packed the 16gb to send back to him and did the tests. I didnt expect it to be balanced as I was sure it was a HW issue but just tested for ****s and giggles and my jaw really did drop when I heard it was balanced

Funny, as you just said the .13 update broke audio on your 32gb. So which is it? Does .13 fix it or break it? Correlation != causation.

There is a keyword that you apparently do not understand: may. You are stating fact based off of a theory. This is how misinformation is born.

Because you know people does not make you a genius computer engineer. If we wish to bring credibility into the discussion, then perhaps you should look into some of my previous work in hacking and android development. Or I could namedrop some companies that I have worked for, and people I am friends with. But not that it matters, as I'm sure you will understand "may" != "100%".
Anyway, this argument is inane and completely offtopic. Whether it's hardware or software remains to be seen, but hopefully ASUS does something about it quickly.
Mine I was .9 shipped it was off balance upgraded to .13 and it was the same. The first one I had seemed fine but it got bricked by the ota. I did a rma through newegg for the speakers hopefully I get one thats not off balance.

If you read.. I have TWO transformers. the 16gb and the 32gb. The 16gb I had first. It had the issue It was upgraded to .13 which was the official OTA and the issue WAS corrected.. When I got my 32gb it had .9 on it. My 32gb had the same issue. I didnt get a notification of .13 on my 32gb. I just installed the prime on my 32gb but the issue remains on my 32gb transformer. But there is no doubt in my mind it was corrected on my 16gb one after the official upgrade. I even sent him an email when I sent my 16gb back saying he wouldnt find the left speaker issue I was having because it seems to have corrected itself.
Now the ONLY difference between my 16gb and my 32gb is one has the official .13 fw and the other has the .13 fw from the prime rom. Unless somehow(which I dont know about so cant say) the .13 upgrades something on the 16gb model and not the 32? Now that is me taking a stab in the dark..
but as a 35 year old musician who has been playing music by ear since age 12, I KNOW what I heard.. I noticed the left volume lower in a SPLIT second the first time I played sound out of my TF and I was the first reported case to Asus.
As I have said, before this I was dead set convinced it was a hardware issue and not a sw issue.. when everyone said it was sw, I was saying I thought it was hw.. but seeing(or hearing in this case) is believing.. and there is no doubt in my mind that after my 16gb got upgraded to .13 my speaker volume was balanced.
Yes he did say MAY.. But as I have said I know from MY EXPERIENCE it fixed it. Unless there was some kind of conicidence that the hw all of a sudden started working at the same time as the update.
Knowing people doesnt make me a computer eng. But the 11 years I have been working in IT and programming does. I can gladly supply you with my resume if you so wish

Care to shed any light on this, does the mention of new units suggest that light bleed is not fixable (or is not cost effective) and that replacement units are the way forward? If so, is there anything to suggest that the new TFs will be any better?

The 32gb I have has really bad screen bleed. My 16gb had it but it didnt bother me but my 32gb has it bad. When I was collecting the most common issues people were having to report back to him one of the most common people talked about was screen bleed. I had sent him pics of my 32gb with the bleed. They dont have a 32gb in the US HQ to replace mine yet. So he was just stating that when they get them in that's when he will be able to replace mine. I mentioned that I would send it in for repair as I think it would get corrected as opposed to getting a new unit that could have the same problem. I guess they dont repair them, just replace them at the moment

I figured since there is finally a place to post this, I will do so here. There is currently ongoing development for the Motorola MotoACTV smart watch. It began simply as a fitness watch, but has evolved with root, recovery, and roms into the best android watch available.
AND IT CAME OUT IN NOVEMBER OF 2011.
Interesting, yes? Let me get you some details from our current wiki (http://motoactv.wikispaces.com/home, started from the members right here on xda):

IF YOU DIDN'T LISTEN AND ARE NOW "LOW BATTERY" AND CANNOT FLASH:
First thing's first. It will probably still charge on the wall charger or a car charger. Try that first. But, if it won't...
(or if you're just an avid flasher,) I'd also recommend you get one of these to help you out of jams: Motorola Factory Cable. The one at that link from Team Black Hat is typically out of stock, but a search of the words "Motorola Factory Fastboot Cable" on eBay can get you one for between $5-8. This cable does not charge your unit and does not come with the MotoACTV.
Any questions? Please post below. And GET YOUR ACTV ON!

Update: just checked, they're going for $50-200 on ebay, lots are on there for sale.
Also, I will be updating the first post of this thread with any info/links that you guys need. We would love for more development of this device, since we've been doing it for months/years now.
Wow this seems great! Youtube and a browser. I recently bought myself the Sony Smart Watch, and I was not too impressed with the battery life time, how is this ones?
I also managed to ruin my SmartWatch, but I'm gonna get it refunded from the store I'll probably get this from eBay! Is there any bugs/problems I should know about from the Motorola watch?
I get mine tomorrow, and my only concern/question is how well this handles Bluetooth tethering. I use FoxFi and PDAnet with phone and tablet and i'm hoping I can use the same with the motoactv.

Not really. Battery life for me is around a week, sometimes more if I turn it off at night. I don't leave bluetooth or wifi on unless I need them though, and keep the brightness around half. I also turned off the shake-to-wake feature, as my watch was turning on when I was just walking around and using up battery life with the screen on lol.
But, for such a tiny battery, a week is pretty good in my opinion. Either way, you can just charge it every night if you're a heavy user. Keep in mind, this isn't like those other "smart watches" that only issue notifications, this is a full blown android device.

I know Nook Tether works on it for bluetooth tethering (internet pass through) I believe, but I'm not sure about the others. I've heard of PDAnet also, it might have been another that worked. I don't tether mine though, so I'm not sure.
The only thing I want different is the watch strap, and an XDA user is actually working on a better one right now. I can't wait!

I'm leading an auction on eBay at the moment. The "Buy Now" alternatives is too expensive with shipping to Norway :/
A week battery time sounds good to me I had to charge my SmartWatch every day, and that wasn't a problem.
How's the Firefox browser and YouTube app working on the watch?

Is there a way to keep the display on to use as a watch, without pushing a button? How much space does the OS use? Is Ebay prefer over Amazon for purchase?

It has shake to wake, where you shake your wrist and the display turns on. The os doesn't use much, maybe 200mb or something. I've got the 8 gig version and have plenty of space, even with roms. However, the space for installing apps is limited for the time being. I'm not sure, but there might be a way to partition the space on the device to get more app space.

I was unaware of the shake to awaken. I will go for the 8 Gb unit when I get the funds. More reading needs to be done to see which ROM may be the best for me. How hard is it for someone to generate a customized ROM without extensive training?

It doesn't have a built in speaker. I'm sure you can get the alarm to show on the screen though?

Cool! Let us know what you think! Of course, the one you see won't be rooted or have a regular android launcher on it yet.
I have decided to buy one, preferably at less than ~$250. I would prefer new versus used since they are discontinued and i am uncertain about warrantee. Maybe i can afford to order one next week. No doubt I will have questions, if rooting does not go smoothly.

Just make sure it's charged to 100% before you start, and use the root tool with a windows machine. It should be easy as pie.

Bugs!

Just to put this post in some context. I have been buying mobile phones since around 1988? I have owned most brands types with different OS the lot. I have never had a bug problem with ANY of my past mobiles including those from Samsung like the Nexus S, SGS11, SGS3, SG Note.
This is NOT a bash Samsung nor bash the Note3 post.
I purchased my Note 3 on the day of introduction to the market along with the Gear, 25 09 13. Since that time I have had to factory reset my Note FOUR times through ?Bugs?. First bug was the notification sound kept going off every few moments for 24 hours all night long. It nearly went through the window. Had to turn it off spend hours next day trying to find the cause, couldn't so I factory reinstalled the phone. All good for a week, then S-voice and this is the big bug, it keeps answering me even though its shut off!
All of a sudden it will speak to me and say it cant find what ever the conversation may be I am having at the time? Seems to have a complete mind of its own so much so my family have started to sit around the phone when we chat to allow the Note to partake? Its surreal. Factory reset twice and still the same.
I am also having other programmes open when I am not activating them. Several programmes also seem to have a mind of their own?
This is not me, thank God, I have yet to go completely gaga, my family are actually asking to set the phone down so we can see what its going to do next!
Would there be a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 exorcist available in the membership? Its gone from being annoying to a cause of much amusement for my family but its truly getting on my t1ts
Any suggestions, apart from burning it at the stake, would be welcomed. :cyclops:
Many thanks in advance.:good:
Kind regards
I havent experienced any of those problems. The only problem I have is the my magazine app keeps crashing.

I think you should return the device to a samsung service centre to swap phones, sound like you really have a bugged one, i bought mine within the same week and so far so good, no problems or hickups whatsoever. For me it's the 1st samsung device i am truly 100% happy with. (had the i9000/i9100/i9300/N7000/N7100 and now the N9005)
All of them had their own bad things, for example S1 had RFS filesystem lagsauce, S2 had EMMC brickbug like the Note1, S3 and note2 had the suddendeath bug and not to forget the AMOLED build quality on all phones.
Hope you get yours fixed/swapped for a good one.
I've had a couple problems with phone freezing, soft buttons not responding but I realized it was the app "Android Tuner" that caused it.
But without Android Tuner the phone works flawlessly like my other Samsung ones.
Sorry to hear about your problems though.
Runs fine here although I did disable some bloat including S Voice since I prefer Google's better.

It sounds like you have S Voice set to always listen which includes when the device is off. The SGS2 used to have this feature but it chugged battery. I like and use this feature, for example to call someone when my phone's sitting on my desk without having to pick it up until the person I'm calling picks up. If they don't I can leave a message via speakerphone. All without ever having touched the phone. This feature's return is Samsung's answer to LG's Knock On.
I have S-voice deactivated so it cannot function yet it does?
My family find this hilarious. I was in the rest room this evening sitting on the loo, to be blunt I began with wind and the bloody deactivated S-voice asked me to repeat what I had said as she didn't catch that and then asked if I wanted it to look for Pruuup on Google! I swore at the phones (sorry about the lack of self control) and S-voice told me to calm down! THIS IS ridiculous.
My grandson now wants to play with the darn thing and I find him having a conversation with this lady known as S-voice.
I shall well be in the dog house if I do manage to resolve this most annoying and very peculiar problem!:silly:
I repeat the S-voice is not even turned on. I actually found myself looking this evening in the loo for hidden cameras expecting to find myself on some TV, 'You have been had' sort of game. What began as odd turned to rather humorous, now I am talking to some lady on a mobile phone who is telling me to keep calm. Any one know the phone number of the FBI? I think I have been bugged?
Hey I could write a book and it could be made into a film. The phone that came to life and.....Oh dear......I might not like the ending
I have looked in the mirror and psychoanalysed myself and I appear as bonkers as 'normal', nothing new....What on earth can be doing this?
I dare not return it to the store as no one will believe me unless my family are at my side and they like the mobile as it is. The other point that worries me is should I take it back and the phone behaves itself I could find myself being carted away by two men in white coats for a psychiatric evaluation? Knowing my luck S-voice lady, she would keep stum until I was discharged then chuckle at me as I walked away from the fruit and nut ward!:silly:

You mentioned you have a Gear. It uses the phone's S Voice app to function. When a Gear's connected I don't know if you can fully disable S Voice on the phone. I occasionally get "microphone in use by another application" errors on both the phone and Gear so mic control between the two isn't perfect yet. Maybe that's related to your issue.

Yes I have the Gear. Oddly enough (to date) this S-voice situation only occurs when my Gear is turned OFF? If I use the gear the problem goes?
Thanks for mentioning that even though I still have no idea what to do about it.
I wonder if Stephen King would like to buy a mobile?

There have been two updates to Gear Manager. The last one really improved the connection between the phone and the Gear. Make sure you update to it. Also, hard reset your Gear before connecting it to the updated Gear Manager. All your apps and settings on the Gear will be restored. Hopefully that'll cure your haunted setup.

I can tell you that I have tested all apps thoroughly and I have had absolutely No issues from day one fresh out of the box.
Stays cool and battery goes long. I downloaded multiple apps too from the Play Store, No problems at all so far.
I am planning to root after a while.

Lol, now before you go writing books on how the Note 3 is a failure, it really does sound like your specific phone is messed up. You can keep trying to fix it but it'll probably still mess up in some way.
And I'm pretty sure they'd believe you if you brought it in and it acted fine. But they'll probably just factory reset it. They think that's the answer to everything. Not sure of your carrier, but with Verizon I just have to call in and they'll troubleshoot it, and if it still doesn't work they send a replacement. And since the phone is still new it should be a new phone and not just a refurb.
Bring to service center. End of story.
Your issues is rare, some spirit inside the phone.
Best Device so Far
Hello all,
Am glad to be part of the Note3 N-9005 crew
coming from my good ol' GT-I9100 S2, which hardly had anything working wrong. I hardly had any trouble with my S2, no brickbug, etc, always kept testing new ROMs.
Now the Note3 seems more like an upgrade, an upgrade in terms of stability, power, RAM, and android power. plus the S Pen of course.
Having used it for like 2 weeks now, I am a hard user - I have seen no issues whatsoever till now. The phone works and flies flawlessly across apps when multitasking, switching to and fro S Pen is seamless. even the fast charge takes least time to charge the device till full.
So all in all, I find this is a very stable, very fast and better than any iOS spawns.
Regards and enjoy this phone

Not to offend but wondering what kind of phones did OP use before Note 3.

Hello all,
Am glad to be part of the Note3 N-9005 crew
coming from my good ol' GT-I9100 S2, which hardly had anything working wrong. I hardly had any trouble with my S2, no brickbug, etc, always kept testing new ROMs.
Now the Note3 seems more like an upgrade, an upgrade in terms of stability, power, RAM, and android power. plus the S Pen of course.

I am as surprised ad baffled as you are. I wrote in my opening remarks that this is THE first phone, form any brand since 1988, I have ever owned that has had a problem including numerous Samsung's in the past three years. Guess its just my turn. EVERY device makes a lemon on times. This is to be expected.
If I keep the gear on the problem goes with regard the S-voice. I have yet again, for the fifth time, reset to factory settings today and lets see what happens. If it plays up again I will take it back and see what can be done. problem is in doing that the store just send all such devices back to Samsung's repair representative and I would be without the phone for maybe a month. After sales in this country is abysmal and getting worse as the financial crisis bites even deeper here.
I shall press on for now and see what happens.:good:

Sync issues
Hi all,
I am experiencing this wierd bug on my note 3 with syncing of my google account. Device automatically disables sync for few of my google apps like Drive, Gmail, Calendar. Even if I enable sync, after a few hours the sync itself disables. Please note that this issue is not for all of my google apps, for eg. chrome and other google apps dont have this issue.
Does anyone know if something I should enable or do somewhere to resolve this annoyance?
Thanks

My Initial Impressions & Pictures!

Hello Pixel C community!!!
Just wanted to give my initial impressions and pictures.
PICTURES
To sum up the initial experience, this device screams premium. It starts with unboxing:
So far everything is really responsive. The screen is brilliant and very bright. There is no lightbleed that I can tell whatsoever. Lightbleed is a BIG pet peeve of mine and this is refreshing to see that it is a non issue. The power and volume buttons have the same feel as the finish and they are firm. There is a tactile (not audible) click to them that I wish more devices have.
The speakers are loud and clear. They do lack in the low end but that is to be expected in phones/tablets in general right now. The mic's for "OK Google" work well close up (about 5ft range) but further than that it only sometimes picks up my command. I think I read down the road they will have support for "OK Google" with the screen off but for now it only works with it on.
The keyboard is very robust. It has a weight to it that builds confidence for travel. When the keyboard is attached to the front of the display the device has a solid and firm feel. It really has that familiar laptop feel when it is closed. Typing on the keyboard is a breeze. I was afraid the thin enter key would give me trouble but so far it has not. I do wish there was a track pad but I was planning on getting a portable mouse (Microsoft Arc Touch) for productivity on the go.
I set this up as a brand new device. After the setup and updates there is about 23.5 GB of storage left over. While charging there is a slight warmth coming off the back. It is charging (as I type) very rapidly. The charge cable is the USB type C and the length is adequate and on par with every other device I have bought.
All in all this is a very nice device so far. I have much to do with it still to get the full feel but right now it is blowing me away! I thought the initial experience of the Nexus 6P was great...This is amazing!
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will try to address them asap!

How much does the tablet wobble when tapping the screen and typing on the keyboard?
Hi, nice to share this with us. I consider buying one, but only when Microsoft Office apps and MobileSheets is working properly. Would you mind testing this? Huge thanks!
Any back light bleed?

There is not much wabble at all when typing with the keyboard while on a hard surface. Taping the display will cause a very slight wobble, a mirco wable if you will. It is really firm though. If it was bad I definetly would notice it and not like it. Im typing with is as we speak and it is a joy really.

So far on Android I have only used Google Docs. I have never tried the Microsoft office apps on any of my devices. If I end up using that solution for my needs on this I will let you know. For now Google docs work well for me.

Zero backlight bleed. One of the first things I did was crank the brightness up all the way, turn out the lights, and do a backlight bleed test. Nothing. Absolutly nothing. I went through two Nexus 10's before ultametly getting my money back because of backlight bleed. It is a big pet peeve of mine.
The build quality of the Pixel C and its keyboard is excellent.
The VERY first thing I did when I received mine yesterday, was turn off all the lights, and turn the device on. ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHT BLEED. The device feels very sturdy, and built with "Premium" in mind, just like to OP stated. Is there a way to disable the battery light on the back?

Awesome! I guess some units had a bad wobble since I remember seeing some videos of some having a lot of wobble and some having none. Hope mine is like yours

While I'm not the OP, my Pixel C also arrived yesterday. I think ultimately it all depends upon how hard of a typist you may be. For me, this happens to be one of the most stable detachable keyboards I've ever used. It's definitely more stable than my Surface Pro 3 which I currently do most of my labor intensive tasks on .
I will add that the consensus of reviews I read immediately after placing my order cited keyboard lag on their test models. It didn't bother me though since I was primarily concerned with using this as a tablet replacement (for my ancient Google Nexus 10) as opposed to a laptop replacement. All I can say is that I've yet to experience any issues with key lagging or intermittent connectivity. While I did have to refresh my bluetooth scan a couple of times during the initial setup, I'm absolutely loving my keyboard's performance thus far.
There is an OTA update it immediately upon powering that may have something to do with resolving the so-called keyboard lagging. My only nit picks would be the lack of a trackpad, and that it does seem somewhat small. However I attribute that last matter to my previous experience with the Surface Pro 3. The more I use the Pixel C keyboard, the more I like it overall.

I appreciate your feedback as well I am growing more and more excited to receiving my Pixel C come Monday
Got my Pixel C today too (I'm typing this message out on it). Really impressed with the quality of both the tablet itself as well as the keyboard attachment; top notch all around. Screen is gorgeous, even if it does have a lower PPI than my 2013 Nexus 7 and my Nexus 6. I was worried about this when moving up to a larger size tablet, but so far I have no reason to complain. Haven't had a chance to try out the audio quality through the built-in speakers yet, but I'll watch my daily YouTube videos tonight on it to get an idea of what they sound like.. Not expecting miracles, but as long as they're decent quality, I'll be happy. For any serious listening (movies and such), I'll use my Pendulumic S1+ blutooth headphones.
I'm not going to do much on it tonight, as my USB-C to USB-A cable arrives from Amazon tomorrow, and at that poiint I'll unlock the bootloader, which will wipe the device anyway, so I'm just goinig to be using the bare minimum tonight. I do hope we get root soon, as I need to install an adblocker a.s.a.p. - haven't surfed without one in years outside of work, and I forgot how much of a pain it is!
Really, I'd say the whole unit just exudes quality. I was going to wait for a month or two to see how things progressed before making the final decision to buy one, but I got caught up in the hype when the embargo lifted on Tuesday, and all the reviews, both positive and negative, just reenforced how great this tablet would be for me. Not sorry at all that I went ahead and ordered it right away, and so far, with the little time I've had with it, I'm loving it.
[Edit] Just to throw one criticism out there, I did experience one instance of keyboard lag when typing up this post. Was easy to see as the letters just stopped appearing as I was typing. Stopped, and waited about 15 - 20 seconds, and then everything started back up again. I can see this getting annoying if it happens often enough, and I do hope Google fixes this in an upcoming software patch.

That's very good to know! My Nexus 9 pissed me off with the craptacular display! Backlight bleed and defective panels, my 9 was a nightmare.
Would you be so kind as to run the Androbench storage benchmark? I am really curious to see how the storage stacks up, speed wise. Nexus devices have historically had pretty piss poor storage performance and I am curious if the Pixel C is any better.

Thank you!
I just ran the same benchmark on my Nexus 6P. It's kind of sad how much slower the Pixel C is, storage-wise. I don't understand why Google wont use a decent memory architecture in their devices...

It looks like the sequential read is a bit on the slower end compared to the Nexus 6P. I love my N6P :victory:
I will say that the Pixel C is a pretty snappy device though. Much more fluid compared to my Note 10.1 2014 Edition.
