Any G2 owners regret not waiting for the Nexus 5? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Based on reviews. The LG G2 still has the better specs. Any Nexus 5 feature the LG G2 is missing?

So far nothing, the g2 has a much better battery, better camera, better screen and faster charging. Kitkat will be rolling soon on cyanogenmod.

At first I debated it, but just as malek777 said, the specs are amazing compared to the nexus, and if you're worried about LG ui being slow or too heavy, just wait for some amazing aosp/CM 4.4 ROMS to come out

No. I prefer the G2 as nexus phones are a noob magnet and also have the sameish AOSP ROMS whereas with G2 we can change. That's me being honest

Except for wireless charging I can't think of much. But with our amazing battery that doesn't seem to matter! I love this phone...stock and all.

Absolutely not, just on the basis of battery.

yeah g2 has better specs. to me nexus is a mid range device.

Nope, especially when I managed to snag a new G2 off Craigslist for only $50 more than a nexus.

Glad I chose my g2

I'm on Verizon, so it's not like I have the option to get an N5, but lately I've been thinking about ditching Verizon for a GSM provider and picking up the N5. I'm month-to-month with Verizon currently and pay ~$80/month. I still have my unlimited data, which is one of the big reasons I'm still with Big Red. I'm not a power user, but I like the unlimited notion.
I have been seriously debating if Straight Talk or a GoPhone plan is worth the money I'll save from ditching Verizon.
The bottom line is that I really like my G2, but part of me wants to try out the N5.

Don't hate on me, but YAWN, stock android/Google Edition. I had the HTC One. Couldn't believe I actually liked sense 5, but I did. Tried the official GE edition on it. Ho hum. no more character. just another clone.
Same with this phone. I didn't plan on liking LG Home, but I actually do. And I like the various feature it bring us, whether I use them often or not. (and no offtense to cm or cm users, but I had it on here today for about 20 minutes before I asked myself WTF am I doing, and restored my regular setup
From pictures, it looks like they are wasting more screen space on bezel than the G2 as well. I am happy with my decision

According to reviews and users, the nexus 5 has mediocre battery life. I have one coming Wednesday and it'll go on swappa asap.

Midrange? I think that's a stretch.

yeah because all the previous version of the nexus has slightly lower spec than the flag ship phone of the manufacturer. also while coming out later, I mean if it comes out later it should have better specs.

no

I'm honestly amazed at the excitement over the N5. It has one, single selling point - what some might call an advantage: it's pure Android and its updated first / more frequently. Everything else is a step below the G2.
The N5 is for purists, I guess. I rather have the larger, better screen, incredible battery life, and better camera (and knock, knock!)

G2x - Nexus One Successor?

The G2 was nice but for those of us who don't care for a keyboard, it was an easy pass. And the Nexus S made barely any improvements to specs.
Enter the G2x: finally, a stock Android slate phone with beefier specs.
Stock Android
Tegra 2 Dual-core processor
Bigger screen
HDMI out
8 MP Rear Camera
Front-facing camera
T-Mobile
4G
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/t-mobile-g2x-from-lg-hands-on-video/
It launches with 2.2, but who knows how hackable it will be? Will this get CM7? That would be amazing.
Thoughts?
2.2 is kinda disappointing
The other than that its fine
I like how low the buttons are at the bottom of the phone, I hate when I'm playing a game and my finger hits the touch buttons

Agree...maybe it's just the picture angle illusion?
I really want this device especially running stock my main issues are these.
1. Upgrading to 2.3 and so on. Especially now thay T-Mobile might change to att they might not care about tmobile branded devices. (This does not apply to rooters)
2.battery power. I hate charging every phone I had after 8 hr. This is my main issue i heard that it was suppose use only both cores when needed so battery should be better but yet nobody has confirm it.

Being LG I'd be very hesitant. Like how the OS is left mainly untouched though.
Aesthetically isn't the prettiest, but damn did that look responsive and quick.
Can't wait for a dual core Nexus from HTC! (Guy can dream can't he)
I may get it with my upgrade in July, but I'd like to see how hackable it is first.
Personally I wouldn't buy another T-Mobile phone. The merger with ATT is likely to be approved and the news on the street is that ATT is going to get rid of the T-Mobile 1700 3G frequency which means that this phone would be made obsolete relatively soon.

I never bought an LG before because they looked cheap BUT with the Optimus 2X and 3D it's obvious that LG put all their know-how,efforts and will to compete with their Korean enemy aka samsung!
ALL the reviews are very positive and the few people who had the chance to buy it were impressed by the quality, speed and camera!
PaulObrien,Formel,Cyanogen and other big names of XDA are planning to dev on optimus 2X so if you want the same amount of quality custom roms then the LG Opti 2X is the flagship
Not even close to being a replacement for my N1!

Try harder
As above, it doesn't have Nexus in the name, so it's not a replacement for it.
It might well have vanoilla Android, but that doesn't mean much for updates... look at the G2 with it's awesome vanilla Gingerbr... oh, wait
Why didn't they just go with a full gig of RAM? I want the one with more gbs!

Does it make sense to buy a Galaxy Nexus now?

Okay, I know it isn't the smartest thing to do but I'm confused. I was planning on buying the next Nexus until Google decided to throw it away by letting LG manufacture it, and no way in hell am I going to buy a LG phone. Still hoping that the multiple OEM news that was around a month or so ago is true. But, just in case it isn't, should I buy a Galaxy Nexus? Will it hold good for another year and a half? In terms of gaming how will it do? State your reasons to buy it and to let it go. Help my brothers, in my hour of need!

I understand LG doesn't have the greatest rep in terms of software/firmware, but I just don't understand the bashing about the LG Nexus. LG won't be even touching the firmware....and honestly, the hardware looks pretty damn amazing to me!! It may not be the absolute most bleeding edge technology inside, but it's perfect for what I use my Nexus for. I don't need a quad core yet at this point.
I'm due for an upgrade next Oct 5, and if I can find a rep who's easy to manipulate I'm gonna try and get an early upgrade to an LG Nexus in the spring after the price drops a little. I'm not a fanboy of any one manufacturer.

Gaming isnt the only feature I want, but yeah its important. And I want a tablet :/
Everything we have heard about the optimus g line so far says it has good build quality.
As others have stated if you want gaming get a 7. The gnex GPU is not the greatest. Scratch that, it sucks. Same as this phone but higher clocked and has to push a 720p display.
People just love to hate lg. Its going to be fun when that phone finally comes out. By far the best nexus phone to come out but all the nooo omg its made by lg so I'll pass.
Can see it now lots of complaints about backlight bleeding.
Always some sort of hardware issue with their phones.

Of course there will be reports of backlight bleeding. Just like there is for every other LCD based device out there. Including TV, monitors, phones, tablets and so on.
To imply some of the devices will have a backlight bleed because its a lg device and they always have issues is silly.

It is like saying a F1 car will beat a Hyundai, performance wise. But since it is LG building the F1 car, it will be build from macaroni. I really hope Google know what they are doing by letting LG do this.
People just to love to hate LG for some reason. The reviews seem to point to the Optimus G having good built quality and doesn't creek like Samsung phones. Give me a break, try dropping an S3 and see how you like Samsung built quality. If the rumor is true about the S4 quadcore its the current fastest cpu in the market. Guess who make most of the IPS panel for phones, including the HTC One X, and a percentage of the iPhone 5 and MacbookPro retina display?
I still think the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone though and has benefit of removable battery. I likely won't get the LG Nexus, but if and when the price dropped to the current Galaxy Nexus price it will become more compelling.

Oh I'll be getting the GNex once the LG Nexus. Is released, just because I'm almost certain that it's going to be cheaper by then. I also bought my Nexus S when GNex came out and I still got my money's worth in terms of updates. Bottom line is, as long as it's a Nexus phone, you can't go wrong. I don't think Google will let an OEM release a crappy Nexus phone. That would be the same as Steve Jobs releasing an iPhone with a crappy app (like Apple Maps).

I will buy any Nexus from Samsung, HTC, Sony, Asus, Acer,...
Just not Motorola and LG, they give horrible software updates. I know the Nexus always get the update first, but I'm boycotting both of them.
I hope there will be a Sony Nexus, if not, go for the Galaxy Nexus, the curving design always attract me more than a straight one, that's why I'm still keeping the Nexus S

Actually, I wouldn't buy a Sony Nexus, my friend used to have a Xperia Arc S till last month, when he'd bought it it was all nice and flashy, but in almost 2 months, the colour of the buttons and rim wore off even though he had a cover on it all the time, and he dropped the phine from a height of around 4 feet, and the plastic cracked.
After reading the LG Optimus G I'm considering buying the LG Nexus. Just waiting for the phone to launch and a few reviews and well, a little finance But if Samsung or HTC were to make their own Nexus phones, I'd gladly buy ine of those.

LG G2 or Moto X

No reason as to why?
Better is in the eye of the beholder. I think that they are both great phones that cater to different audiences. It really depends on your preference.
For me, the G2 was a no-brainer, as I prefer a larger (>5") screen as well as long battery life. There are a lot of people that want a smaller screen, and the X might be a great choice for them. Having said that, if you want a larger screen or screen size isn't a factor for you, I'd go with the G2.
Never had a LG phone.. I'm wondering how the reception stack up to motorola...I had a SG3 and it sucked really bad...Also, is the LG pure AOSP or close to it?
I was in the same boat. The deciding factor for me came down to price. Both phones are 600.00, and if I'm going to pay a premium price for a phone, I want premium components. The Screen, Battery, CPU, and the Camera are premium on the G2, they aren't on the Moto X. So my money went to the G2. I do think the Moto X is a fine phone, but it's not a 600.00 phone, IMO.
I've had a chance to use both the X and G2, hands down G2, same size as the S4 with a bigger screen, better cpu, screen, and just as good battery life.
I was really contemplating getting a g2... Then I had to do a reality check. After the huge disappointment of the g2x,I just don't think I can stomach another lg phone. The g2x could have been great but lg seemed to just turn their back on it. The g2 looks awesome but I'd hate to blow that much money again. Same reason I haven't bought a new nexus.
Sent from my maguro using xda app-developers app
Ignoring specs, the Moto X is more practical. The size and shape feel great, and it looks much better, is better built, and can be customized. The price seems kind of high now, but you know its gonna drop like a rock since it doesn't have the highest specs to begin with. The LG G2 is still gonna maintain its price for a while. Then again, the Nexus 5 is gonna come out soon. I would choose that over these for the best bang for your buck.
Coming from a Gnex and I am facing the same question. The chance of Verizon getting the new nexus are well probably zero so I went and picked up the X the other day with the intention of possibly swapping it out for the G2 within 2 weeks. I like the X and still need to go okay with a G2 this weekend but if the G2 is as nice as people are saying it is I will probably end up dealing it out.
The X just feels small to me, I keep saying to myself it's the same size as the Gnex but it still just feels small.
In the end for me its about the screen, both phones will eventually get rooted and the awesome developers will produce custom builds for both so......

Base on this rumor the Nexus 5 could support a bunch of LTE bands and possibly Verizon, even though the found out the LG D821 is a Verizon G2, it doesn't explain the D820 with a smaller 4.96" screen so it could still be the Nexus, regardless it will be made by LG.

I'm in the same boat. Coming from an LG Optimus G (which I loved for the most part), I am due an upgrade. I purchased a black Moto X on launch day, but will be exchanging it for a G2 when they hit stores Friday, and I'll cite a few reasons why...
1. It blows that neither phone has expandable storage, but for $199 the G2 gives you 32GB whereas the MotoX gives you 16 (unless you spend $50 more)
2. The screen on the Moto X looks great... Until you put it next to an HTC One. Comparison is the thief of joy I guess
3. The Moto X doesn't lag at all, but given AT&T's move to a 24 month upgrade cycle, I do have some concerns about just how "future proof" it's hardware will be.
I do love the Moto X. It looks and feels great, and I am definitely going to miss active notifications. However, I just think the G2 gives me more of what I want/need for my money.
I was thinking of the MotoX for my wife and the G2 for me. But at the price point the MotoX is at Id rather just buy her a G2 like Im getting or even a Galaxy S4 (since she doesnt really need a stock Android experience).
If the Moto were cheaper or had replaceable battery/sd slot then maybe, but 199 for "meh" worth of phone isnt that great, especially with the brand new G2 at the same price and the S4 way cheaper.

You can read any G2 review or watch a Youtube video review/comparison and that should give you a better idea. But in short, NO it is not close to AOSP. A simple root/de-bloat will go a long way for this phone. I have the N4 now and the reception is fine, but I'm sure the radios are different.
G2. No OIS on MotoX
I have a Maxx same as the moto x in terms of user experience and love it I was contemplating taking it back (getting G2) because today is day 14 for me to return the Maxx. Guess what? I'm keeping the maxx the battery is killer the os is so simple and fluid I can not... let me repeat I CAN NOT get this UI to lag skip glitch etc. It is amazing the real deciding factor is root Jcase just got root for the motox and an exploit should arrive in a timely manner. Think the LG G2 will get root? I don't know, what I do know is my Maxx will.

The Maxx is also 100 more even on contract. Id like a comparison of the Ultra vs the LG first.
And, even Touchwiz is fairly fluid nowadays....the CPUs on these things are going to make anything feel fast.

[Q] Should i trust in LG G2?

Hey Guys, i am a RAZR MAXX owner here and really tempted with LG G2 because of the price here and its technology (mainly the GRAM) and its battery life. However i am put off by the software side though, as it is a bit too cartoonish for me and i really hate those overblown statusbar buttons and some LG history of late ROM update. So.. should i forget about that and take the plunge? I actually am a Sony fan, but their UI is too elegant for me that i will waste my money on my paid icon themes besides the power consumption of the Sony's (esp the screen) is rather high for now so i thought that maybe the LG G2 is the bang of the buck for me.
So to sum it off, here are my concerns:
+ Battery Life
+ Top class chipset
- LG UI (but that's the main point, so i can replace it with my Nova and Icon pack without feeling hesitant rather than with the Sony's UI )
- almost non existent future update from LG (please CMIIW)
Any input will be appreciated
I came from sony,i used x10,xs,xz and xz1 and i am happy that i left sony and i did not regret.
This is my first lg phone and i love it,i don't know how the updates will be but sony is not that fast.

LG has already started better than many other manufacturers by releasing a phone with top specs, a current version of the OS (barely behind what is on the Nexus line, not several versions behind like some other new phones when released), and posted the source less than a month after the release. This phone is also easily rootable, the dev's are hard at work on their different projects such as modifications to stock, CM in alpha, etc. Few manufacturers have a great track record when it comes to timely updates or support after the first year, but LG is in the game already with a good start and the dev community should be able to keep this phone updated well past the time when this phone is "older" in the tech world.
I'd say check out the phone, read the reviews, see the support we have already, and base your decision off of that. This is a phone that should easily last me for 2 years or more until I decide to get another one.
G2 is the superior phone & fulfills all your needs. Change the launcher if you don't like the stock one and you're good to go!
Not sure if you are a rooter or not and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I'm kind of worried about development for the G2. So if you do like tinkering, just keep the slow start in mind. I love and appreciate the work the devs put into these devices. I do donate, btw. Just wasn't expecting the slow start with available roms. I thought this device's forum was going to explode

As I noticed that you're Indonesian I suggest you to look for a promotion or discount price for g2. I just bought my G2 three days ago at LG G2 Promotion, Central Park, Jakarta.
One of the best deal I've made. Got IDR 1 million cashback (from the original price IDR 6.8mil) and a bluetooth device. As for the phone itself, coming from Nexus 4, I find G2 noticeably faster and smoother out of the box than my N4. I am proud owner of N4 but compared to G2 (stock vs stock), it's way a different world. Only with custom rom and kernel (PA rom and hellscore kernel) my N4 get near the smoothness of G2. Maybe the only thing I miss is that the development here is not as much as Nexus generation devices.

To OP: you don't have to worry about dev for LG. Just sit, relax and this phone will get the ROMs it deserves. If you think LG is bad, think again (I'm looking at YOU, Motorola).
There are so many launchers and icon packs that will replace Lg ui. G2 will also receive 4.4 updates so that will ties your up for a while.
Devs for g2 are doing great works. Root, recoveries, are avaliable. If you are not in to flashing rom you can stop with rooting your phone, and be happy with the things you can do.
Personally I came from nexus device. I flash roms every other weeks to try to get best battery life and smoothness for my phone. With G2 hardwares and battery, I am enjoying stock, forget about flashing and just uses the phone.

First, this is NOT an attack on you personally so please dont take it that way. But what the hell phones did you guys come from that make the dev and forum for this phone slow?! This forum is about to eclipse the size of my last phone that is 2 years old! And that LG phone didn't have anything for several months. This phone already has bootloader bypass and root and a few roms going with more on the way. Maybe it's not as fast as Samsung devices that have millions upon millions of sales in a couple of days, but compared to many phones this is quite quick. Chill, it's coming. My last phone was slow for dev due to small sale base and only one carrier, but we still had official CM and MANY others. There will most certainly be no shortage of development here.

Well you were a lucky man to be able to purchase all the flagships but i do like teir openness and cool design, its just the battery life that left sour taste in the end, but might be solved in the next iteration

Hah! Yes they are really slow, even when considering their position as Google company.. But again, the battery on the maxx is still phenomenal to this day. Thats why i am eyeing the G2 as a suitable replacement

Yeah what im saying is that because it is hideous from the start, than it is more justified to use my paid icon theme on nova if i'm on sony i won't do that lol

Yeah i hope so mate, I'm not into custom ROM until there's no official update. So i like newly updated stock ROM. Hence the issue with LG history of updating phone.

Thinking about going for the G2...

So I have a Nexus 4 at the moment and I'm waiting for the nexus 5. I've been looking at the G2 and i must say it looks amazing, I'm just wondering what the G2 is actually like, is it really worth it? (I know you will be biased as its a g2 forum) I'm not fussed that the Nexus 5 will be cheaper blah blah. I want to know how the G2 is on a daily basis.
Also how's the development side of things for the international? Plenty of support and progress?

Tons of people around here are gonna say it rocks. I'm one of them. Development it good everything else is great
I can only speak to the verizon version, but it is great. I have not had a N4, but it is much much better than the Galaxy nexus. The only thing I have done s fix wi-fi tethering, and participate in the camera mod thread. I do not know what the Nexus 5 camera will be like, but the G2 is pretty close to the top like you said the luminas and the experia Z1 May do better. There is definitely room in the software for some improvements(like 4K recording), I think the hardware is there to support a little better photos, but still great stock.
As I have been saying in other threads I also have solid evidence that the G2 has USB 3.0, but with a funky non standard micro-USB 3.0 connector(backwards compatible to standard micro-USB 2.0). From teardown photos I have seen from nexus 5 it does not have a standard or funky USB 3.0 connector. (Sketch of connector attached) I have not found a funky plug to reach the extra pins and enable USB 3.0.
Like a lot of people I like a lot if the standard features of this phone.
Check the other forums comparing the G2 and Nexus 5, and the things we owners like about the phone as well.
According to rumors the release of the N5 is within a week, so you can just wait and see the confirmed specs.

So was my HTC Incredible.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
I sold my nexus 4 for this phone as well.
I used the nexus for a few months and tried various roms, but I've never found "it".
"It" is the feeling I get when I buy something that suits me, LG g2, car, wife.
This phone is a keeper, I don't even want or need to flash a custom kernel/rom.
Edit: I was looking for the nexus 5 as well, but the camera/battery is not good enough for me and how I use my phone.
I personally don't see a reason to wait for the Nexus 5 (although I'm kinda waiting too just to see the official announcement before I pull the trigger on getting the G2) considering the G2 is so similar and even has better specs in a few key areas. I fail to see the fascination with Nexus devices considering this is Android and Android lets you do what you want, there are already plenty of closer to Aosp ROMs if you don't like the Lg skin and I'm sure the great developers will work as quickly as possible to get 4.4 onto the G2 once it is released. I could understand being confused about whether to get the G2 or some totally different device from a different manufacturer, but if the Nexus 5 is the main thing you're comparing to, the G2 is a nearly identical LG device with a better battery and camera so why make yourself hold out for the release of a lower spec'd device.

one thing for sure the G2 will be much more comfortable to hold. The shape of the N5 is not very comfortable to hold. My Optimus G was same shape and not comfortable to hold mind you it still is an amazing phone. Also battery on N5 does not look promising.
Oh and can i add that its now 12 am nd i still have 50% battery with normal use.....same use nd apps as my old s3 which i used to charge twice daily.....

I am also holding off on the G2 just to see what the Nexus 5 is offering for the following reasons.
1. No one knows if the leaks are 100% accurate, Google could surprise us.
2. I just moved to a new area where my current phone service BLOWS (Sprint). When I get the Nex5 or G2 I want to try both TMO & ATT, the Nex5 will work on both fully but from what I understand the TMO G2 is missing some LTE band (no idea if I need it)
3a. Can't hide the friggin soft keys on the G2 unless you root.
3b. Rooting trips some flag that gives LG an excuse not to fix your phone.
3c. No way to un-trip that flag that I've seen.
If any of my above reasons are wrong forgive me. I'm just going off of info I get in this forum and on Youtube.
