Does it make sense to buy a Galaxy Nexus now? - Nexus S General

Okay, I know it isn't the smartest thing to do but I'm confused. I was planning on buying the next Nexus until Google decided to throw it away by letting LG manufacture it, and no way in hell am I going to buy a LG phone. Still hoping that the multiple OEM news that was around a month or so ago is true. But, just in case it isn't, should I buy a Galaxy Nexus? Will it hold good for another year and a half? In terms of gaming how will it do? State your reasons to buy it and to let it go. Help my brothers, in my hour of need!

I understand LG doesn't have the greatest rep in terms of software/firmware, but I just don't understand the bashing about the LG Nexus. LG won't be even touching the firmware....and honestly, the hardware looks pretty damn amazing to me!! It may not be the absolute most bleeding edge technology inside, but it's perfect for what I use my Nexus for. I don't need a quad core yet at this point.
I'm due for an upgrade next Oct 5, and if I can find a rep who's easy to manipulate I'm gonna try and get an early upgrade to an LG Nexus in the spring after the price drops a little. I'm not a fanboy of any one manufacturer.

I've never really liked LG's build quality. And based on the pics that came up recently, the back of the LG Nexus looks just horrible.

Gaming isnt the only feature I want, but yeah its important. And I want a tablet :/

Everything we have heard about the optimus g line so far says it has good build quality.
As others have stated if you want gaming get a 7. The gnex GPU is not the greatest. Scratch that, it sucks. Same as this phone but higher clocked and has to push a 720p display.
People just love to hate lg. Its going to be fun when that phone finally comes out. By far the best nexus phone to come out but all the nooo omg its made by lg so I'll pass.

Can see it now lots of complaints about backlight bleeding.
Always some sort of hardware issue with their phones.

The specs for the LG Nexus knock spots off the Galaxy Nexus. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Of course there will be reports of backlight bleeding. Just like there is for every other LCD based device out there. Including TV, monitors, phones, tablets and so on.
To imply some of the devices will have a backlight bleed because its a lg device and they always have issues is silly.

It is like saying a F1 car will beat a Hyundai, performance wise. But since it is LG building the F1 car, it will be build from macaroni. I really hope Google know what they are doing by letting LG do this.

People just to love to hate LG for some reason. The reviews seem to point to the Optimus G having good built quality and doesn't creek like Samsung phones. Give me a break, try dropping an S3 and see how you like Samsung built quality. If the rumor is true about the S4 quadcore its the current fastest cpu in the market. Guess who make most of the IPS panel for phones, including the HTC One X, and a percentage of the iPhone 5 and MacbookPro retina display?
I still think the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone though and has benefit of removable battery. I likely won't get the LG Nexus, but if and when the price dropped to the current Galaxy Nexus price it will become more compelling.

Oh I'll be getting the GNex once the LG Nexus. Is released, just because I'm almost certain that it's going to be cheaper by then. I also bought my Nexus S when GNex came out and I still got my money's worth in terms of updates. Bottom line is, as long as it's a Nexus phone, you can't go wrong. I don't think Google will let an OEM release a crappy Nexus phone. That would be the same as Steve Jobs releasing an iPhone with a crappy app (like Apple Maps).

I will buy any Nexus from Samsung, HTC, Sony, Asus, Acer,...
Just not Motorola and LG, they give horrible software updates. I know the Nexus always get the update first, but I'm boycotting both of them.
I hope there will be a Sony Nexus, if not, go for the Galaxy Nexus, the curving design always attract me more than a straight one, that's why I'm still keeping the Nexus S

Actually, I wouldn't buy a Sony Nexus, my friend used to have a Xperia Arc S till last month, when he'd bought it it was all nice and flashy, but in almost 2 months, the colour of the buttons and rim wore off even though he had a cover on it all the time, and he dropped the phine from a height of around 4 feet, and the plastic cracked.
After reading the LG Optimus G I'm considering buying the LG Nexus. Just waiting for the phone to launch and a few reviews and well, a little finance But if Samsung or HTC were to make their own Nexus phones, I'd gladly buy ine of those.

Not sure what to think about this. Seems quick?
no?
NS was released late last year
N1 was released early last year
it was bound to happen.. but at least NS will be the second next phone to get ICS
Nexus One was released in January 2010, Nexus S was released in December 2010, so this seems in line with Nexus release dates, Holiday Season every year.
Says no front "buttons". I wonder how the software buttons is going to work.

+1 they produce the best screens. I honestly don't know whats up with the hate with Samsung.
Who else is there?
LG: lol, we give stock and dont provide gingerbread updates (been almost a whole month). "stock" on carriers aren't really stock. 3rd choice.
Motorola: motoblur + bloat + locked bootloader
HTC: this is my second choice next to Samsung. even though they have said they're commited to not lock the bootloader anymore. i find it shady that they would even plan on locking the bootloader in the first place.
SE: not really producing any highend phones
Samsung: doesn't lock bootloader, easy to root etc. great hardware
my only complaint with Samsung are the plastic back covers, but I can deal with it after putting a case on.
people probably hate it because of TouchWiz. but if you don't use TouchWiz launcher (which many of us dont since we use ADW / LP) it's a great skin. it offers many features that are pretty nice.
The plastic battery cover angers me. It always creaks can't they make 2 version's. They can do it look at captivate now my screen creaks if I press the top part of screen it moves fml if they wanna compete with iPhone they need to step this up I really don't like HTC IMO there phones are garbage but damn least they put metal

Because Google simply provides the software. Not the hardware. If they go towards the direction of making the phone.. well, that doesn't fit their profile. They would be purchasing things from Samsung Electronics anyway and the profit stream would be way less.
And it doesn't matter if the company has already done the Nexus phone. Everything isn't built off the idea that it's fair.
Oh hey guys, Samsung & HTC already did the Nexus phones. Let's give Huawei a chance to make the next nexus phone!

FWIW, my ranking would be:
HTC: decent hardware that works. I can't abide Sense nor their tendency to lock down stuff, but on a Nexus that wouldn't matter. The safe choice.
LG: their Android phones are actually really nice, even if the product lineup is a bit strange. Specced by Google, built by LG? Oh yes, please.
Huawei (or some other less well-known brand): A Nexus could give the brand a boost, thus boosting competition in the long run.
Samsung: They always manage to have great spec sheets, but also there's always something that doesn't work right or at all. See GPS on the SGS1, sound on the SGS2, GPS on the Nexus S and compass/accelerometer on basically any Samsung-built Android phone. Also they have obvious quality control issues.
S-E: Well, why not? I don't think they'd even be interested, though, control freaks that they are.
Motorola: No, thank you.
No not LG. I have owned a couple of LG phones and never ever have i been satisfied. I just dont associate LG with anything good.
I hope not LG. The G2x has been a disaster to say the least, returns like crazy on them. Everyone I know that had one has returned it..
HTC, makes IMO the best quality phones. The sensation is awesome with solid hardware! They know what their doing

If HTC (or any OEM for that matter) made the next Nexus phone Google would required them to make them hackable, since it will likely be a dev phone. So you don't need to worry about signed bootloaders if HTC makes the next Nexus.
Also, there are never custom skins (such as Sense) on Nexus phones. The Nexus phones are designed to be hardware benchmarks for stock Android software.
Personally, I think HTC would be a great hardware manufacturer for the next Nexus device. I miss the solid build quality of my Nexus One. That being said, Samsung's AMOLED screen on the NS is outstanding.

No, not HTC again. My Nexus One already suffered from the dust issues and dead power button that I decided to just sell it after getting a replacement. HTC may make solid feeling builds but their phones almost always have build quality issues (the Sensation already has a dust issue).
If Samsung doesn't make it I will really miss the samoled screen. Unless LG decides to throw a retina busting display on it. makes you wonder what they mean by monster display, could just mean a 4.5 inch screen or a resolution that is unmatched. After all they are the ones that make the retina display.

I'm not worried about "signed bootloaders." HTC has already commited themselves to unlocking the bootloaders on future phones and current phones that feature them. I've been on Android since the G1, so I'm aware of all this.
Again.. skins, I'm aware of this. I was speaking in general because there has been forum threads around the NS forum where people are headed towards "normal" phones such as Galaxy S2 & Sensation.
The build quality of Samsung phones are just as fine. The only complaint is the plastic backing. Other than that, its build is extraordinary. I personally just want Samsung to make it because the displays they offer are exclusive to their company and its just breathtaking. It would also feature Super AMOLED Plus or even their upcoming display thats even better than SAMOLED+. But I doubt it'd be in the Nexus 3 unless it can be ready by then,

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

Wanna move on but to what!

Hello guys!
Its been a real pleasure being with Nexus S
Its a great cell phone, I love it but now I am at point where I have to change my cell phone, now I wanna buy a LG Nexus 4 but it has not come in my country yet and i dont know when would it come..
So that and the price factor gives me a choice to have either Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S II (Yes 2 not 3 )
now in my head i dont need fast updates because i always use a custom rom and i am ok with even a lower one,
I have used GB in nexus s even though i tasted JB
So the updates are not a problem for me, I just want a cell phone that can last me at least a year with a nice play for the upcoming games or anything else like that.
What would you advise me to buy? GSII or GNex?
If some other with the same specs or better but with same price factor then kindly let me know..
Can't go wrong with either. If you care about roms then the gnex would be the best since it will get the major android updates til the software is to much for the hardware.

+1.
Seriously, choosing between the GNex and the S2? That's not fair because the S2 was released by Samsung to steal market from the Nexus S after releasing the latter. (IMHO, the S2 is just a Nexus S on steroids). Now if you are choosing between the GNex and the S3, that would be a better comparison, the S3 is better in hardware but would take 10 years to get an update compared to the Gnex, but like you said, if you're happy with ROMs like CM or AOKP, then it would probably matter less.

GNex would probably be a better choice. It's a pretty great phone.
There will only be one upgrade for me and that will be the s3.

I'm happy now with my NS. But in a few years I will get the s3.

The SGSII and the GNex are extremely similar. The GNex has a slightly lower pixel density on the camera, but a little larger screen.
If you're in love with AOSP roms, the GNex will be the way to go. If you just want another phone and have the money to blow on a good SD and such, then go SGSII.

I am more seriously considering the rumoured Nexus 4 32GB LTE, if that phone is a flop I may pick up an HTC One later this year.
I had it and liked it a lot. The only reason I went back to my N4 was because I'm scared of how well it will get updated. Overall though I may pick it up again. Its beautiful, fast and everything about it works. I miss some of its kool features already.

Personally, after being sucked into the Nexus line (pun not initially intended, but halfway through typing, fully intended), I won't be leaving for a long time. The Nexus 4 is just such a great phone, and no manufacturer getting in the way of tweaking it. Plus, it's probably half the price of the One. If you're signing a contract, then you have to weigh the pros and cons of that.
Anyway, no, I'm not getting the One. The decision to upgrade can only be made by you. Good luck.
I actually 'downgraded' (ordered the HTC One, waited for a month for it to ship and when I saw they will not have any more stock for a long time, I cancelled the order and bought the N4). I do not regret it at all, seeing how fast it is.

What makes you think android 5 is coming out anytime soon? If anything rumor has it that 4.3 is next in line. Though I will admit manu factors won't be updating to that anytime soon.

The upgrading is quoted which means that I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade. But it is an upgrade in hardware cause it comes with bigger screen ,faster processor and else.
In the software I really don't care cause devs will always keep up with Google as the CM project.
Just wanted to know cause I love the idea of dual speakers.

I've definitely considered it at times, but it's doubtful. It's an absolutely gorgeous phone, and Sense 5 does seem improved.
I really hope HTC gets the next Nexus, their hardware is out of the park but their software is junk.

I am not going to buy a SGS4, I don't like it, the xperia z is to squared, lg optimus ? Is lg and the HTC seems to be perfect.
Thanks.

Once you go Nexus you can't go back!!!
You have been warned!!!
unless the nexus 5 blows me away, I'll probably wait for the 6. I got bills to pay so I can't upgrade every 6 months to whatever "it" phone is on the market like some of u guys. Even though the N4 has a very good camera, I'd like to see Google step up their game and make the next iteration have one of the best cameras on the market.. Also have a 32GB option and I'm good.

Yeah... I want too, I really hope a 32/64gb versions. The memory is necessary and better camera. I hope Google go back to HTC not to Motorola, but I am loving the one design.

Although the one is a very nice device, i will never buy another non nexus device again.
The hardware is great, typical HTC, but as long as they are stuck on stupid when it comes to skinning the UI I won't be buying another non-nexus device (unless I go back to apple.)
The One is great, but 600 Euro??? Like an apple phone...
So I'll use my Nexus in the next months.

Who's getting the LG G2?

So it has arrived, with it's super thin bezel, 5.2inch True HD IPS LCD, Snapdragon 800 CPU, 3000mAh battery and new LG UI:

With all the GS4 complaints I see around here, some seem fed up with it, so, who of you will be getting this new beast?
Me, I'm very happy with my GS4, yeah it's got its flaws but the pros far outweigh them, and I'm still loving my Octa beast!

Well not me i'm 100% Happy with my i9500

And you think the LG G2 won't have any? I haven't seen an "issue free" phone launched in the past eighteen months by any manufacturer and that includes the Nexi. Some flaws/issues push individual's buttons more than others so going to another phone may be right for them. But they're just trading one set of issues/flaws/compromises for another.

Errm...where did I say it wouldn't have any flaws?
It's simply a thread to see who's leaving and what people feel about the closest competition to the GS4. It's like some of you are reading way too much into it.

Apparently that is Market Dependant, major letdown if the major markets don't get it. Don't know why they don't just release them all with SD slot.

Because some carriers want to force people to use the cloud so that they can sell them more data allowance.

Looks like a pretty cool phone! That button is an interesting idea. Don't know why we have to make it a pissing contest with the sgs4. They are just phones, not gods. Wish phone mfgs would stop leaving out the expandable memory. Wish Google would treat sd like a real memory expansion. All this cloud stuff is for the birds!
Nice to see LG competing. Nice phone!

Nice internals ... to me the back button as i saw it seems atrocious ... the idea is really cool ... the implementation as it seems in the photo is bad for my taste ... i'll stick with gs4 anyway .. i find it pointless to replace phones that early anyway ...
LG G2 is an amazing phone but, I'm gonna wait for the note 3. To be honest I'm disappointed with the amoled screen on s4. My s2 screen was so much more brighter and vibrant.

im happy with the s4 and LG is known to have crap support and non-existant updates, but the G2 looks like a great phone phone hardware wise and the flip cover idea is what samsung should have done with the s-view cover
if im going to trade my samsung it will definetly be for a Sony

If every time a new high(ish)-end phone was released a thread seeking people's "feelings" toward it was started those threads would cannibalize the front page. In the past few weeks we've seen the XZ Ultra, One Mini, One Max, Moto X, Note 3, S-800 SGS4's, Sony Honami, and a S-800 One+ rumor in addition to the LG G2. I'd guess some percentage of people that own a SGS4 would be interested in some of those phones for various individual reasons. Finding those reasons out becomes more a market research study than a discussion about the specific device whose forum the question is posted on. That's why most mods aren't really keen on comparison threads; no matter what their title says.

+1!!!!
This whole 'in the cloud' thing just doesn't work for me, not at all! That's why I like Samsung, they give us both plenty local and cloud storage, so we can choose. I hate what Google has done with the SD card treatment in Android, one of the main reasons why many of us chose Android was iOS limited us in storage, now Google are doing the same, just look at the Nexus 4, 16GB the highest you get, pretty pathetic really.
Keeping my s4. Lg twice. lg never again.
Crappy support, updates what is that. And whit one lg i had hardware issus so 3 times send it in to repair, the same lg did to 3 of my frinds.

Finding a case will be fun for the G2 i'd imagine
Thread closed, I fail to see what the LG G2 has to do with the Galaxy S 4.
