Google OTA update notification on SGH-I337 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have an Canadian SGH-I337 Galaxy S4. I have installed the TWRP recovery and Google Edition 4.3 rom on it. Today I have received an OTA software update notification for a small 16 Mb update. However, when I tried to install it, phone rebooted in TWRP recovery manu and nothing was installed.
I was wondering if there is a way to enable installation of any future direct OTA updates?

Not if you have a custom recovery and rom.

Is there a way to get original Google edition recovery and rom on it?

Thanks for the reply. You mean ODIN installation of Google Edition Firmware on this Galaxy S4 (I337m)? I was reading somewhere that since this GS4 variant have different partition the ODIN installation of Google Edition Firmware will not be successful. What you think?

No, don't Odin the Google edition. You want the stock firmware for your specific device.

Need to send S4 back to Samsung, What is required to make sure my warranty is valid?

So, my S4 wont read my simcard anymore, and I have to send it back.
What do I need to do to make sure that Samsung accepts and replaces my device.
It's Rooted, has a custom recovery and ROM.
Thanks.
EDIT: Its a Canadian S4.
Remove flash back via Odin find stock factory image for YOUR DEVICE (I337m) I take it you didn't update it so find the Odin files that correspond with the fw that your phone officially came with

So I went back to the Official Samsung firmware, and used triangle away. Now when I boot into download, both say official. However, when I check device status, it still says custom.
I have removed Root and have a custom recovery installed. Found a Sprint S4 recovery, but I can't find the Canadian. Will the sprint one work?
Only other method I could think of is using Kies (if you don't have it downloaded it) to restore it completely.

See, I cannot go back to stock and do the triangle away method as SIM card is required to activate the phone, which currently won't read a simcard. Can I not just flash the recovery? Or is there a way to bypass simcard activation? Thanks

by updating you are meaning you have already flashed the rom in your GT-I9505. Well, there is always the good old manual way and if your 4.3 ver you can just do the ota.
By manual i mean download the latest stable/nightly release, flash the kernel, install the zip from recovery and wipe according to instructed from the rom dev post.

Update failed.

Hi, I'm on 4.2.2 stock rooted and am receiving an update. I'm Not sure if it's 4.3 or 4.4.2 but it downloaded and tried to install. It got to 27% and said update failed. I've tried a few times and it just fails. So does anyone know why my update keeps failing? Do I need to Odin back to stock(mf3) and then update?

You can't update a routed phone via OTA, but I think there is a way to unroot.

You have to un-root your phone before you can access an official OTA update. If you are using Super Su, like most of us, you can use it to un-root. Search the forums for rooting if you need additional info. Good luck.
Thanks a lot guys.

I unrooted via SuperSU and I'm getting the same error. I guess I will have to Odin back to stock and then update.

I'm having the same issue. Where can i find the official 4.3 rom?.....All i'm finding is the 4.2.2 stock which also fails using odin. I may be doing something wrong though.

Problem updating to 4.4

Hi. I am trying to update to 4.4 for the past couple of days. I don't know whenever I try updating it just says no update available. I think I may be on a rom but I am not sure, reason why is that when I boot my phone it says Samsung custom with a padlock. Suggestions?

Do you know what firmware you're on? I would Odin those tar files. Backup first, to the cloud or your pc.
Ya I just went back to stock with Odin. But I tried to update and it still won't find any updates.

probably because it hasnt been updaed in GooManager to support the L720T.
I believe there is a TAR file that you can flasg via ODIN. Philz has a great recovery that works and is based on CWM.

You can use any s4 rom I believe, but you will lose the Spark function of the T model if the rom doesn't support it.
Main thing, have a good Nandroid of your working touchwiz system, flash new rom, if you boot loop, nandroid back to your working system.
Before you install a ROM and after making a nandroid. Restore it to make sure it backed up correctly.

Make a note of your firmware and baseband as you may need to reflash to the correct firmware in order to have the best experience. I'm still on MK5. I have decided to be patient and wait. The spark is very noticeable compared to my s3 (i had).
