The Google Wallet Project - Droid Ultra General

Ok so it seems quite a few people are still interested in getting this working, so, lets pool out resources and experiences and see if we can make it happen.
this is basically a repeat of the discussion og this so are on another thread but it was kinda off topic so i started this one.
so this has been the evolution of what ive tryed so far, pretty basic i know, but that why im here to bring people more talented then myself to the table....

r57v5
this will side load without root, and will open but give and carrier error and force closes if left installed of the GW versions ive try this is the only only one that installs with out anything extra.

r52v7
so after root was acheived (by jcase) i installed the xposed frame work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 and wallet mod here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-xmod-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet/ i was playing with something else, DL the app from this thread: http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-elite/644930-custom-boot-animation-sound-without-root.html It asked me to DL another app that installed aditional shared libraries and now one more of the wallet apks will install. and now this verison will install where it previously would not.

r96v16
i believe this is the newest version, but it wont install

tried restoring the titanium backup from my gnex to the MAXX, but it just hangs on direct and indirect mode, probably would still have the library issue even if it worked.
Attached is the output from the manifest XML, hopefully it has clues. A dump from a sprint moto X might help I heard theirs works.

i think i found the missing library, ill need to see a moto x system dump to confirm it is the one but from a discussion i found at code, google, this has occured with other apps and it was recommended that a certain jar file library missing may be the cause. now this was about and different library and app so the specifics dont apply here. but the nexus 4, s4 gpe, htc one gpe, all have a file in system/framework titled "com.android.nfc_extras" this file is not present on the vzw moto, droid maxx, razr hd, and im sure many others. i tried copying the this file (from nesux 4) and its odex partner to system/framework on my razr hd and i got a soft brick/bootloop at reboot. so the way i see there are a few possiblities why, the file came from 4.2 hd is running 4.1 or n4 is just to different from the hd to use the same file. but this same idea may work from a sprint moto x to a vzw moto x and maybe even the droids.

Awesome, I know that what we are missing is certainly on a sprint x. Google specifically. Lists the sprint and us cellular versions as compatible.

It's a combo. Vz started distributing a secure Sim card, which one had to order through the vz site. I don't see the option in my Verizon, so maybe we already have a secure Sim or maybe it's not yet available. This might take a while to do. More likely we'll have Isis ruining before. How this help a lil.

yes all vzws new nano sims are nfc secure element sim cards, but this is a new concept, and it is still just a sim card so that leads me to believe that the secure element embedded in the sim is simply software just writen to the sim.
another thing thats confusing is and hardware on the moto x is identical to the droids yet the moto x on sprint supports google wallet. google walet dose not support sim based SE's so therefore one of two things is possible
a) there is a physical SE chip on all moto x's and the carriers have it disabled.
or
b) its pure software and the carriers have it disabled
so unless someone dose a teardown on a sprint moto x and finds an extra piece of hardware im inclined to believe that the "Secure Element" is soft ware that is hidden in the device somewhere. maybe in the kernel so it can manage comunication bettween the ui and the nfc hardware. i really dont know that why before there can be an intelligent discussion of how to/if it can be hacked. what actually needs to happen. we need a HIGHLY detailed decription of what EXACTLY a "Secure Element" is as defind by what google wallet is looking of.
i dont think isis and SE sims will be realivent to google wallet, apples and oranges

The SE spec allows smart card emulation on the firmware and in the uicc on the Sim card by the carrier. The hardware is I denticle. This is possible from that perspective.

Did not need any special SIM card so it must be incorperated into the new phones automatically.
Would love to get Google Wallet working on the MAXX, any ideas?

Google wallet and AT&T S3

Is there, or will there be a way to use google wallet on the non sprint S3s? With or without root or rom?
There has to be some info on this out there. Is Google Wallet just a gimmick or will this really take off? If so I would think AT$T and Verizon being bigger providers than Sprint, there would have to be the ability to get these to work with it.

there is info on this, if you search.
wallet is only support officially by sprint. the rest of the carriers you will have to find the modded apk for wallet.
(also, i hit the thanks button accidentally instead of 'quote' on your post, so free thanks for you!)
I searched, but anything that comes up is about Sprint having it and AT&T not...But at least I know that it will be possible at some point.
The question is if the At&t version has a secure element. If it doesn't, then there is no chance.

How do we go about finding something like that out? If they are wanting their version of the s3 to work with some other "google wallet" type system, it would seem it would have all the same requirements. I dont see them killing the ability completely, just had the software side removed. But who knows what these guys will do these days.
Att is developing their own system with some other carriers called ISIS. Probably not a chance to get Google wallet working on the att version.

EDIT: That only works on rooted devices, my bad
Having to root it is not a big deal, I just wanted to know it was possible to use it if the need came up. Right now I dont think NFC payments are big enough to consider a must have, but if the day comes that 8 of 10 shops use some sort of nfc payment system it will change my mind for sure. I just like to know that I can do something. Im sorta waiting to root as well Its running like a champ and everything that i use daily is working without a root. Once a nice easy one click is out that will not trip the counter I will go for it, or if some app or ability that I just have to use requires it. But just enjoying the phone for now as is
I am rooted still doesn't work on i747 just hangs on activating

Maybe now that so many are getting this phone we will see some work being done to figure this out.
to get it to work you will need to fudge the phone into thinking it's connected with Sprint using Market Enabler or equivalent. That's I had to do on my G Nexus in canada.
so, for some reason, i installed it, it loads but i get this message, and just stopps.
"Initializing your device. this make take a few min...... blahh blahh.. "
thats it..
Worked for me on Canadian sgs3...
I'll try post instructions for it tomorrow evening.

[BOUNTY] Google Wallet on rooted Verizon RAZR MAXX HD non dev

I switched to verizon from sprint and my gs3. Sprint's service sucked, but the GS3 was awesome... I like the battery life of the maxx hd, however. One thing I cannot stand is Verizon's (probably) illegal blocking of apps like Google Wallet. On Sprint, I used Google Wallet frequently. That brings me to the point of this post:
I am starting a bounty for the first person that is able to provide instructions/code/apk/something that allows me to install Google Wallet on my rooted Verizon RAZR MAXX HD non developer edition phone running the verizon JB leak and successfully complete an NFC transaction. The transaction test will be done at a business that works perfectly with sprint phones, in order to keep it fair.
Bounty: $20. I know it isn't a lot, but I am hoping others will chip in as well. My portion of the bounty will be paid via paypal.
I've tried sideloading the apk, installing it as a system app, installing a modified apk, trying market enabler, etc, etc. I am willing to follow your instructions but please have it working for yourself before you send me something if you want to collect the bounty.
have you tried flashing the modified Google wallet apk from here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083
It worked on my s3 when my carrier didn't support gw.
I don't actually have an hd yet, picking one up black Friday, once I have one I'll be working on this.

You need to realize there will never be an easy way to get Google Wallet on your phone. Part of the setup process even with hacked apks is on Google's servers that check the phone model. Only way around this is to edit your build prop which requires root. Its not easy and will never be unless Google wants it to be. Just fyi

Maybe things have changed, but when my carriers s3 wasn't supported, I just changed the phone model in build prop, installed the apk in system, rebooted, set up Google wallet, then reverted to my original build prop and everything was good to go.
Once it was registered the phone model didn't matter.
Or maybe not, Maybe they've updated their security protocol since then.

Google Wallet?

Hi, I'm new to the LG brand of phones, but I've had just about ever other brand. I wanted to know if LG phones have been able to use Google Wallet, and if someone can test Google Wallet on a VZW G2. I'm thinking about picking it up as my upgrade soon, but also was considering the GS4 since I know I can get wallet to function on that easily. Obviously I know information on this at this point is going to be scarce, but I hope someone can shed some light on this for me!

I understand this. Its the same story for all other VZW phones. Except the GS4 can use it just fine so long as you have root and the MoDaCo Toolkit. Granted the GS4 has a secure element which Google Wallet requires. My main question is I guess.... does the G2 have an onboard secure element? ISIS require a secure element Sim card to use. Google Wallet only looks for an internal one.
Now that we have root for all variants of the G2, can someone test this out? The directions from this thread should help out a bit. Although this is all assuming that the G2's firmware has the required Libs as well.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could test this!
How about At&T version of G2 ? Anybody tryed yet?

The G2 is designed for ISIS and not supported by Google Wallet in the US.
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Google needs to end the block. It's eliminating competition by blocking Google wallet.
ISIS can actually run on rooted roms now. Search it up. People have been running it on the Droid DNA for a bit now. Google isn't the one who is blocking Wallet by choice. Verizon, AT&T, & T-mobile are all on the ISIS bandwagon, and do not allow Google Wallet to run on their network officially . Normally you should be able to use any legal software on your carrier according to the FCC, but Verizon is actually getting around this by not including secure elements in phones but instead moving the secure element to the SIM card which Google Wallet does not check at the moment.
Since I don't have a G2 yet, I can't test the things I would like to. The thread I linked to previously here should give some instructions on how to install Google Wallet from the Play Store and see if it functions. Like i said we may need some lib files though from a Sprint variant. Usually Sprint is the only carrier to support Google Wallet on their devices. Ultimately the VZW G2 may not have an on-board secure element, and we may just be stuck using ISIS unless Google codes Wallet to look for an external SIM SE.

Try this module with xposed framework. It's worked for me in the past to get Wallet installed from the market on my Droid DNA. You need to edit your build.prop though to match a supported device like the Nexus 4/Galaxy Nexus. MoDaCo Toolkit module has a nice build.prop edit section you can use.
Once you get it installed, don't change the build.prop back until you go through the wallet setup (if it even launches)
From what I'm reading from you guys here, it seems that even installing wallet is a challenge! I always thought that was the easy part lol. The hard part is dealing with if it actually functions or not :/

Nah the Google wallet installer will not run on unsupported devices (a la the build.prop changes) with or without the module. Same deal on most other phones that aren't explicitly a nexus. Do you have a list of what I need to change the build.prop to to allow install? I'll give it another try. But I bet the "secure element" being in the Sim will put the kabosh on all of this anyways. ****ing Verizon.. man.

I did, however, order an NFC Secure Element SIM and got it today, and set up my ISIS... but it only accepts American Express and Chase (not VISA) so I can't test it out.

[Q] Isis on Nexus 4?

Hi, I've done some searching but I don't see that anyone has posted anything about getting Isis to work on a Nexus 4. I'm on AT&T and I have the Isis SIM, so I'm assuming all I need to do is hide root from the app and make the app think i'm on a supported device, like the HTC One. But I have no clue how to start with that.
PS I want to use Isis because they have 20% cashback up to 200 bucks if you use their app to make purchases. Otherwise i'd use Google Wallet which works like a charm.
I've been wondering the same thing I know there's a lot of animosity towards Isis but I want to take advantage of all the offers that come with it. I'm also on at&t and have the secure element Sim but I can't get the app to install. I've tried editing my build prop to say I have a galaxy siii and moto x but can't get it to install. I believe it need some libs ported to it or something. Maybe if somebody could port them from the moto x or something it would work
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I am on the same boat. I came to the N4 from a cheap LG F6 and ISIS worked like a charm there (on rooted, no less).
Not so much with the N4. Trying to install the app using 'adb install' gave the INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY error, so I'm guessing we're missing some required NFC/ATT specific libs (Google wallet seems to work fine, though)? Not sure.
You can 'adb push' it as a system APK. This way, it'll open up but complain about 'ROOT'. Once you go through with Xposed/Root-cloak after, it'd just force close. I'm stuck at that point. Didn't try editing the build.prop to spoof the phone make/model yet.

To me ...reverting to stock is the simplest way.
If you absolutely don't want to lose your stuff ...you have to return it to stock piece by piece. Many threads about it already. Many.
Tho...I just transferred all my stuff to my pc ....including my titanium backup folder....pics and all that...and used rsdlite ...and put all my stuff back after. Rooted it. Restored my titanium backup. Done.

While I can agree with this partially, if AT&T and Verizon didn't junk up the firmware and change stuff that didn't need to be changed, then we wouldn't really have a legit reason to root the phone. Dev Editions are for people who want exposed modules and all that jazz, and I feel like Moto should've made a MM phone that was Dev Edition, but can't have your cake and eat it too. Again, if AT&T and Verizon used the same firmware as T-Mobile did, then I'm sure a LOT more people, including myself, would be happy and not need root.

You can thank the folks who hacked root access on those 2 carriers , do you really think the folks at moto do not visit xda , these forums are the best way for manufactures to get opinions, consumers dislikes and likes and probably the best place to get ideas to improve they're operating systems

I'm happy the USB OTG is back and the phone feels snappier. Battery life (for me) is noticeably better after a significant decline with 4.4. Good that they fixed all the bluetooth volume issues I was having with my headset (basically one volume on the LG Tone+ and when connected to the car, voice notifications came into the phone and not out of the car speakers). Also looks like some notifications have had some tweaks, such as picture auto-backup now shows a thumbnail of some of the images that were backed up. It's a REALLY good update for me.
Only thing that bugs me so far is that when you remove the USB storage, you get a notification that stays there until the next reboot.
I already had great battery life. But it seems to have gotten slightly better. Not marginal, but it was enough for me to notice. Basically getting a bit more out of a 100% charge.
