Product 3D Printed Hard Cover to Car Mount Adaptor! ( Nexus 7 (2013)) - 3D Printers

An alternative to trying to make sense of the mobile phone after market is, as always, Do-It-Yourself. On this occasion others did 'it' for me and I'm grateful, as I'll explain.
What am I taking about? 3D printing that's what. 3D printers are eye-wateringly expensive for a few seemingly off-the-shelf parts. And sometimes things go wrong But no matter; the technology is in its infancy and will mature to match the pockets of the 'early majority' of its potential users in time.
I have been following thingiverse.com for a while - site catalogue of 3D things to print - and came across this for the N7.2

For the uninitiated - what you do is download the code to print the item in the form of a .stl file - normally zipped - and then send the file to a 3D printer.
I found one of the many on-line printing services - as it happens - on eBay. Dale Charnock of Lune-Valley 3D was very helpful. I sent him the.stl file and promptly received an email telling me it would cost nothing to print! Nothing; zilch; not a penny. Dale explained that to get people interested in 3D printing he was offering first time customers a free print - for a while. So with nothing to lose I asked Dale to run the print.
A couple of days later it arrived in the post. Dale had added a rubberized spray coating that makes holding the N7 in your hand feel much more secure. He did say the coating was expensive and would in future probably make a charge for that.
My original idea for the printed cover was to produce a holder that I could cannibalize to make a car mount. My last car mount for my now sold N7.1 cost nearly 50 Euro from Brodit. It is a superb mount but way too expensive for a chunk of ABS plastic.
Serendipity! What I found was the 3D print cover fit very nicely into my N7.1 Brodit mount - meaning I now had a Brodit car mount adaptor! Whoohey! See the photos below.
All that remains is to remove a millimeter or so from the end wings from the clip - as the N7.2 is a couple of millimeters longer than its predecessor. A file or end mill will do it.
More and more things to print are being added daily to Thingiverse take a look.

I had spotted this on thingiverse and was gonna try printing one while I wait for my folio case

Need a nice leather pouch case - 8525 ?

Is it safe to assume that an 8525 case will fit the Tilt the same ?
I'm looking for a pouch-type case.
Thanks,
DLD
I have alot of experience with Gizmoskin.com i have had 4 of their cases for different phones.
I got the treo 750 case, which is within a mm on each side.
its awesome. I love their cases, secure, slim and ratcheting clip - the leather is TOP quality.
there is a little play at at the top of the case as far as fit, but it doesn't bother me and there is no worry of the phone falling out or anything, but it has some freedom to shift in the case.
FYI, the standard shipping is REALLY slow - to florida it can take like a good 2 weeks, cause they ship from canada. On the other hand, with overnight, ordered on thurs, shipped friday, at my house monday before 9 am. Pricey, but, it was there.
Good Luck!
fyi, with the case set horizontally, the phone feels like it weighs nothing. I wear alot of gym/ basketball shorts that have no strong waist support and it does not pull it out at all. i'm super happy.

Thread moved to Kaiser accessories.
nobody knows if the 8525 cases fit the kaiser properly ?
dld
It fits, but the TYTN2 is smaller. I use a SP6 Pouch Case and its fine.
I'm using a leather pouch case with a strong, rotating, belt clip I got at Best Buy that is intended for the Treo 650. Since the 650 is no longer available the case was reduced from $29.99 to $8.99 and it's a perfect fit.
yes, it fits. I'm using my TyTN case with my Kaiser (Tilt). the Kaiser is a bit narrower so not as tight a fit but it works.
I am also looking for a horizontal case with a belt clip for the Kaiser. Most of what I have seen so far are generics that fit 'most devices'.
Thinking about Vaja ...

Anyone interested in getting sorta stylished outfits for 8525??

Well, the only concern I had with my Hermes was it is god dam big.
It's tolerable when it's without anything but I just want protect my 8525 from scratches.
I always cover my phone with plastic cover, but it looks so big when it's in my pant's pocket,
as someone once joked that he thought it was my PH.D(pretty huge D) skewed to left(or right),
and I'm an asian, the fact of which makes my figure pretty an irony(I can joke about my race, right??).
In my country, Korea, they cover phone with sorta printed plastic or film sticker,
which enables easy outfit reforms of phones as well as scratch protaction.
As they don't have 8525 in this country, I was looking for expansion drawings for 8525, which I couldn't.
I posted about this issue but no one gives a dam about that or my Eng was sucky.
Anyhow, I finally made it by myself. it's kinda not perfect yet.
I ordered plastic sticky sheet from cellphone reforming shop and I need to cut that sheet(or sh*t) by my self following the expansion drawing, but if they gets enough demand, I can ask for customized factory cut of the expansion drawing so that I(or we) don't have to waste my time for precise cutting.
I don't believe there would be such a huge demand, cuz this forum is for sorta geeks(at least a bit of), not for metropolitan-ambiguous gendered dudes.
So the product of covered phones will be like this::

I will post mine soon if I succeed in making a versatile outfit. I am making it with Paul Smith stripes, and you can also cover your phone with sorta like Gucci or LV or BMW, Jessica alba....and so on.
So if you are interested in getting something like that, post a reply or enter a poll.
Then I am thinking about supplying through ebay.
The cost of the cover would be around 15 bucks including shipping fee.
Customized order(of picture) would be more than that, I gotta ask the shop owner.
So anyone interested??
It's only available for 8525, or other Hermes model which has totally same outfit.
P.S- How do you call that kinda cover in English, if it has name?

i dunno, i guess you can call it a skin?
edit:
a little googling and i found this http://www.skinit.com/ and it looks like they do have skins for the hermes
if you do decide to sell.......and if someone orders a hello kitty one, pls make sure to post that persons address here so we can go beat up that person

Cheap good xoom case UK

Well I don't normally do this, but I ordered a case from eBay and within 2 days it arrived
The cost of this leather case including postage was £12.98 (free postage)
It's got quite a good solid feel to it and fit's my xoom very well, I half expected it to be rubbish for the money but it's not.
I would highly recommend this to any xoom owner. It's the only one I found that you have access to all ports and also allows the indicator light to show through when I get an email.
Mines the 3G version but I dont think that makes a difference. Also because the flap has a crease in it, this allows it to stand up for watching a film BUT if you lay it down the other way you use it to type on. Using it this way puts the xoom upside down sadly but it then allows you to charge it from the top
O.. and did I mention you also get a FREE screen protector with it!! I haven't fitted mine yet however.. I hate doing them because I always mess up and end up with lots of bubbles and fluff.. lol
Apol's if this is breaking any rules, but I'm that impressed with it I thought I would pass this on.
The current eBay link is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250793933011
Happy xoom'in
Steve
Ermmm not wery well made. I have the same and the xoom dosn't fit properly.

It is not the only one which provides access to all sensors and buttons, and it doesn't provide access to charger port while being closed - as all other currently known cases.
Btw, you posted that in the wrong forum...
this is the one i got and its great. Had no problems with the ports, the holes some to be in the perfect position.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270737383497
only "down side" (not sure if it is even that bed to be called that), is that the "hinge" of the case is at the bottom. So when charging the case cannt be closed all the way, btu i just fold it back(so the screen is not covered) when chargin and put in a drawer.
apart from what its a very good case for under £15.
that looks like its the same case. I think for the money its a bargain.
Had my xoom for few days now and loving it. Starting to use it more and more now... looking forward to the uk 3.1 update. From what I've been reading it might be out on the 27th may...
Fingers crossed
I bought the tuff-luv pull-tab case from eBay for about £14. Very nice.
Hi guys, I bought this one.
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/view...=1&nav=WON&nid=32518807697&trxId=583007023013
Only £4.99 with free delivery
The case is a nice tight fit and adds no bulk, all port holes are a perfect match.
Best device case I've bought (cheapest too)
Screen protector that came with it was one of the cheaper ones that leave smear marks etc but I decided not to use it, I bought the item just for the case anyway.
I can't rate it highly enough guys.

Kickstand Case for Nexus 4

Hi!
I will use Nexus 4 for video chat and recording a video (sometimes). I am looking for a vertical kickstand case.
Vertical kickstand:

I used PureGear Hard Shell Case with Kickstand for my Gnex, and I loved it because I don't have to hold the phone for using video chat, and it just stands for recording a video (I do few silly stunts).
Why vertical? I use facetime/talk all time. It has to be vertical stand because horizontal stand will not work on facetime/talk because it would be too wierd for my friends turning their head to see me. lol
Is there a vertical kickstand case for Nexus 4?
Thank you so much!
Also looking for this or any know kickstand for the N4...
Seidio's kickstand case is in the works. Not sure when that will happen though. I can wait I always get the Active case/holster combo with my devices. Great for travel IMO.
I ordered this (ebayitem.com/350674511348) case on ebay. The photos appear to be of a real case and phone, rather than a mock-up. Once I receive it on 01/02, I'll post a brief review here.
(I actually ordered (ebayitem.com/160944505505) what appears to be an identical product at a slightly reduced price)
(Can't yet post direct links... sigh)

An update: I received the case, which is made of two parts (hard and soft). The softer part has a very strong vinyl smell which I am working to eliminate. The case fits well and is relatively light, though it adds plenty of bulk (and, I presume, protection commensurate with the extra material).
In other news, the touchscreen on my Nexus 4 gave out and I'm in the process of receiving a replacement. When I receive it, I'll post the review!
